I guess you could call me dependent.

I feel dependent.

but I guess I never truly really understood that, but when I eventually heard that she said that I was dependent.

It hurt.

she never said it in words, just ink plastered onto a piece of paper strewn around one of the common areas the ‘normal’ toons hung out in.

when I first read it, I thought it was fake, thought it was just a ruse to get me to step out of line.

but those words eventually engraved themselves into my head, and they swirled around me like rotten flower petals falling off their plant.

and I tried to be independent after that.

I tried to be straightforward and stand my ground, I tried to be independent when I wanted and needed things, but the toons found me unapproachable at those times.

I don’t blame them, but I envy them.

I envy their ability to be independent, to be able to rely on themselves and barely anyone else.

I envy when they can go out and make large diverse groups, when they can talk without having the worry of having a thousand eyes on them at all times.

And then she said I should have a replacement.

That's when she brought up Cocoa, I envied her too, her entire personality was the epitome of independence.

and so, I got mad, not angry. I'd never hit her, never call her names, never exclude her, but my tone and actions said otherwise.

And that's what everyone else thought.

They called me mean, just because my tone was too cold towards her, that I was throwing a tantrum for not getting enough attention.

But I was forced and thrown into a position that required that attention, that required a voice to lead others, Bobette had her group to lead, and Dandy had his as well.

I tried to lead mine, but I ended up being too dependent on them, too afraid that I'd upset them into disliking me.

It never happened, but I believed it, because what she said had affected me.

I admit it now.

I am too dependent.

I relied on the others, I went to them for guidance to situations that I could’ve solved, that a main could’ve handled without their shiny image cracking like porcelain.

But I have feelings, and those feelings are costing me my role as someone important, someone who was supposed to be a guide to their friends.

I don’t hate Cocoa. I never did, and I never will.

I just envy her.
