A mini-essay on why Elon Musk's twt decision has caused CHAOS
Described as "the town hall of the internet" on a BBC News programme some time ago, Twitter has had a vital place on the internet. For many years, it has had some anonymity as well as loads of different communities and viewpoints, which has made it attractive to many. From the mess that is stan twitter to vital news organisations, twitter has been loads of things in one place, until today. As of writing, Elon Musk has 'temporarily' limited how many posts users can see per day.
Tumblr media
Why is this bad for society? In Twitter you can access information from trusted news platforms (from BBC News to NEXTA) while also scrolling what you love. As Twitter's restrictions are now in place (meaning that LESS people will use the platform), this could mean that LESS people can access truthful, accurate, important information (which could also potentially lead to more conspiracy theories). In addition, this could also limit free speech as Twitter has been used as a free speech platform for all (whether you're left-wing, right-wing or im-between). Why could this be bad for Tumblr users? From what I have learned, Tumblr is a safe place for many communities online who may want to avoid mainstream social media websites. The 'twitterpocalypse' could create loads of more users, which could interfere with the tumblr feed for many pre-musk users. From all of the people affected by this I would like to apologize from the Twitter users who are moving to Tumblr. I truly hope that there can be a way where you can still enjoy the communities you have grown here, as well as meet more people who despite being from twitter, could contribute to your community in a good way! If you have any insights or extra information on this, please comment on this post to help make this more factual. I also encourage tumblr communities looking for new members and/or twitter-like communities to advertise their spaces here!
Thank you for reading!
