Once again, I would like to say thank you to everyone who applied for our first opening! As I said in the previous post, I received double the applications I was anticipating, which was both flattering and a little overwhelming! I wasn’t able to accept everyone at this time - this is my first time running a site like this, and I’d like to start slow - but please know that there will be ample opportunities to apply again down the line!

With that said, Kendall (my mod) and I went through all the applications last night! It was really tough, because all of them were so well-written, but we’ve managed to narrow down the acceptances! Those will be going out likely tomorrow (February 22), probably mid-afternoon EST. A message will be posted on this blog when they've all been sent.

Actual roleplay will not begin until the following weekend most likely, allowing people time to settle in and create character profiles on the site itself - but this will be explained further in the Discord after everyone has joined.

Hi! Just a clarifying question, what is the youngest we could make a playable cat, specifically one with non-clan origin? I remember seeing something mentioned about it on the forum and was wondering if an “apprentice-aged” (6-12 moons old) cat would be ok?

Yes, 6-12 moons is completely okay! I do ask that all characters made for this specific opening are six (6) moons or older. There will be a chance for kittens to be born on-site, and that will be the only way you can create a cat younger than 6 moons for roleplay!

This is just because it's a very dangerous world in this setting - a young kitten out on their own likely would not be able to survive long enough to find the group of travellers!

Curious about character creation; are there any limits to designs/physical traits? Eg.: are we allowed to have "banned traits" as commonly referred to on dA WCRP (such as blindness, deafness, abnormally large/small, albinism)? What about accessories? I'm certainly interested in the concept of this group and in applying, but want to double check on if there are any limits in terms of creative freedom!

I will say now that I will never lock a disability or disorder behind a shop purchase, or outright ban them! That doesn't sit well with me personally. The only thing I will say is that if you are going to create a character with a disability or disorder that you yourself do not have, please do the appropriate research and play it respectfully!! If we feel as though this is not the case, we will have a conversation with you about it and sort it out from there.

As for accessories, I don't really see why they would be an issue! The only thing I ask is that it's something somewhat realistic - like a feral cat probably isn't constructing complicated pieces of armour without some outside help - but things such as collars, bandanas, little sweaters, bracelets, etc - that's all definitely allowed!

Hi! Very interested in this rp. I applied last night and now that it’s morning I’m curious about what you’re looking for in characters/what are you judging for applications you accept? Would you be ok with someone submitting a form twice with two different character ideas?

Right now, I'm not looking for anything super specific in terms of character types! Since this is the first opening of a new RP, we're not already experiencing an overflow of any certain type, if that makes sense - so any and all characters are welcome to apply!

On a technical sense, I'm looking for people who have a good solid grasp of their characters (which is why the personality and history sections are both present!), that said character would fit well into this setting (cats who hate teamwork and travelling probably wouldn't be a great fit for a journey style rp, after all), and I'll be checking social media just to ensure that the people I bring are ones who will mesh well together!

I'd ask that for now, there's only one character submission per person - just to keep me from getting overwhelmed right at the start! If you think you have a stronger character idea and want to resubmit, though, you can just add in the first part of the form to disregard the previous submission, and then I'll only consider the most recent one! Please don't do this more than twice though!

Hi there, very interested in this, but I'll admit I'm entirely unfamiliar with jcink. Is there anything I should know about that experience other than I guess rping will be happening in a forum? Will there be an ooc chat where people can easily communicate?

Hello! I'm glad to hear you're interested!

First off, in the applications I see so far, a lot of the people applying are relatively new to or unfamiliar with Jcink, so you wouldn't be alone!

All of the roleplay will occur on the Forum itself, in designated roleplay areas. I have a guide in our guidebook on how to setup your account, as well as HTML you can use on your character profiles!

Other than that, it's very similar to how one would post on a discord roleplay. You find the thread that you want to reply to, hit "reply", type up your reply, and then post it!

One of the nice things about forums is the ability to use what's called posting tables, or HTML templates! Halcyon Mine has some listed on the site itself for members to use freely, and even has a couple that are integrated, eliminating the majority of the HTML code so that you don't have to worry about it! This was done with the fact that some people may not know much about forums/HTML in mind <3

As for OOC, the majority of that will take place in Discord! The only exception would be things like shop purchases and signing up for events, which would happen on the forum for archival purposes, but any OOC discussion, character plotting, etc will all take place on Discord!

I will be here and more than happy to help anyone with the transition from other styles of RP (Discord, Cbox, etc) to forum RP, and questions will be welcome at any time!

Time has always been entwined so closely with the Moon… the Moon shifts and changes as time goes on, and yet lives the entirety of its life in a cycle. Waning, waxing. Crescent, full, new. And with each shift, something changes. The tides are pulled in, are let go. The passage of Time is tracked using the Moon's phases by the small, little mortals that call the earth home.

Time ticks forward. The Moon cycles in its familiarity. Always there, only changing within a set of predetermined guidelines.

Time, so used to things fading with age, loves the Moon. Loves how even though she changes, she always comes back to something they recognize. The Moon loves Time, who gives her the opportunity to shift her shape, loves her no matter what shape she takes, allows her to change and loves her because of that.

From Time comes Life and Death. Every creature has a time they are born, and a time they will expire, all preordained before they even take their first breath. You cannot have one without the other - and you can have neither without Time. Time rarely considers Life and Death their offspring - Time's affection belongs elsewhere.

Time loves the Moon.

The Moon loves Time.

And the Sun is jealous.

So far all of the setting and mechanic stuff around this rp seem super cool! I'm very interested in the patrons/gods in the world, in particular. Did all of the gods just appear suddenly 9 years ago, or have some always been around? How much do modern day cats know of them or worship them? What kind of relationship do the gods have with mortal cats in general, and did the gods have any sort of relationship with humans when they were still around? Who/what even are the gods and what are they like?

I understand if you're saving the answers to these questions and other information about the gods for the rp itself, but if there's anything at all about them that you could share for now, I would be very interested. 👀

The deities have always been around, however were unknown to the majority of the land, mostly just going about their business with their respective aspects and keeping mostly to themselves. However, when otherworldly creatures began spilling into the world… well. People and animals began praying to any god they thought might listen - and of course, that captured their interest.

With more worship came a more active role in the daily lives of mortals - what was once uninteresting to them became something that could grant them power if they let themselves be known - so why not dip their paws in, so to speak?

As in real life, worship and religion is different for every person (human or animal). It's safe to assume that some humans would have prayed to and even worshipped certain gods, though the gods would have appeared much different depending on who they're interacting with. (For example, the God of Knowledge probably wouldn't look like a cat to a human!) Likely, though, before this whole thing, their existence wasn't a sure or even widely-believed thing.

Mechanically, each character will have a patron god -- depending on their background, they may know of their god, and maybe even have had a few interactions with them! This is something that can be worked out in the application process with me, and I'm more than willing to allow people to have some creative freedom when it comes to how their character interacts with their patron.

That being said - it depends a lot on their background and their relationship (if they have one) with their patron! Some patrons are far more active than others, and some family groups may have one specific god they worship or revere!

As for who or what the gods are… that will come with the roleplay itself! A few have been revealed/previewed on the blog already, and there might be a few more previews leading up to the opening, but I'm trying to keep them vague for now! How they interact with the travelling cats is all based on reputation, after all, and I'd hate to give away any of their secrets!

hello! i'm really excited about what i'm seeing here so far! i'm familiar with wcrp and have had some friends who played in paradise campaigns. will this project have aspects of one or the other? both? or is it something completely new? thank you!

Hello!

Thank you so much for your interest, it means a lot to me!! I'm not sure that I know what a paradise campaign is, but Halcyon Mine will be based on a TTRPG! There's a set beginning and end point of the story, and little events called 'trials' to help set the tone and keep interest high as the group goes on their journey. It's an adventure in the scope of what, say, a dungeons and dragons campaign may be, with the simple caveat that all the characters are cats!

In terms of WCRP, there may or may not be cameos of Clans in the actual roleplay, but mostly the Clan life will be restricted to backgrounds. That being said - if your character comes from a Clan background, it may influence how they handle the way the world has changed, and how they approach the trials as they partake! This is why I'm tagging it with the WCRP tag - that, plus I feel like there are a lot of people whose interests would likely overlap if they're already interested in Warriors!

I hope this answered your question! The TLDR is that I'm hoping for something that feels new and fresh, but with enough familiarity that people feel comfortable hopping in with both feet :) If you have any more questions please don't be shy!

Update

Apologies for the relative silence on this blog! I don't have any new art to share, but I figured I would provide a small update so people know this isn't dead in the water!

I've taken a little break from working on Halcyon Mine as November was a very busy month for me. That break has made it so the rough opening date of mid-December I was aiming for is no longer feasible, unfortunately. However, that doesn't mean that Halcyon Mine will not open at all! Currently, I am moving the rough opening date to early in the new year, specifically January - February 2025!

The time between now and then will be spent on cleaning up a lot of things behind the scenes! Tidying up the forum site, finalizing the overarching plot-line, and finishing up the NPC profiles of the NPCs that currently exist.

I thank everyone for their patience, and hope you're all as excited as I am to see this through! As always, any and all questions are welcome in our askbox. This includes but is not limited to questions about our mechanics and any character building questions you may have, if you'd like to get a head start on plotting out the guy(s) you will be bringing along.

I hope to have more art to stick on the blog soon, but until then, I hope everyone has a good last month of 2024!
