do you have any recommendations for movie musicals available on streaming sites? there are so many I haven't seen that idk where to start! thanks!
oh damn, sorry for the late reply, I have no idea how old this message is because I’ve only just now checked my inbox after not being on Tumblr forever! The availability of movie musicals on streaming sites is really region-dependent and sites like Netflix unfortunately don’t consistently carry older titles from the golden era, for example (and I’m not sure who holds the rights to the MGM back catalogue, Warner Brothers owns some of them iirc but there was also talk about a bidding war that could happen there). I generally buy movie musicals on DVD/Bluray when I can. If you’re in the US, I think you’ll probably have the most luck with HBO Max where you could check out classics like Top Hat, Singing in the Rain, The Young Girls of Rochefort, A Star is Born, A Hard Day's Night... if you have Netflix or Amazon Prime, I’d recommend Fiddler on the Roof. Disney+ has Newsies, Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. There are so many different types of musical films that it’s difficult to narrow it down, especially since this genre and in particular its most successful decades in Hollywood (1930s to 1960s) are really under-served by streaming services as it is. Still, hope this helps!
