Editorial Dissertation Â
Some rough editorial design plans for my dissertation. However, after David saw my development, although he liked it he told me to make it simple, dont over exaggrate the design, so it makes it difficult for the individual read and understand. keep it nice and simple. You want peope to clearly read your disso as wellas keeping the layout simple to, so its not too confusign the audience to loose track as to where to read or while reading they lose track of where they were.. so keeping the design and layout simple, do not overboard it with designs and images.

Type Sketch - Half a Project
The idea: You have a blueprint typeface to which you work with or you could personally create your very own typeface by following the tutorials how to. So you would have a blueprint of a typeface to which you would work with, once you have chosen your typeface you would then chose your letter form/letter case (upper or lower case) for which you would want to edit, create or develop. Once you have chosen your letter case/letter form you then have two paths which you could take either a manual edit or sliders.
The manual edit is enabling the individual to freely edit the letter-form to how they would like it. The sliders is more of an interesting approach; the slider option enables individuals to go as wild and creative as possible. By choosing the slider option what this triggers is it divides a letter form into segments such as the counter, stem, oval, bracket etc. You as the individual would choose what segment or section for which you would like to change or add, for example, if you were to pick the counter; once you have selected the counter you would then have other option of counter sliders for which you could choose from, each counter slider is different from each other. Once you have picked the slider which you like you can then even go further beyond and even edit that slider if you want.
A repeated process which can be done with every single letter form and numbers and with every single typeface. No limit to creativity with creating a typeface with type sketch, having fun and learning the process of the type anatomy.

Final Depression Video
Due to not being able to see the text message from the opposite side we had to change the text from white to black so it's much more visible from a distance and clear for the audience to read.
Our final video for which he had produced for this depression campaign which will be directed to people with depression that you are not alone and that there is somewhere there to help you and that you don't need to confide in yourself and not feel judge too. Â

Website Depression Campaign
Technology has dramatically changed the way we communicate, socialize, and make and maintain friendships. While there are benefits to living in a digital world, there are also risks. Depression is a huge problem and the Text&Talk campaign is a way for people who suffer from depression to be able to speak up and talk to someone whatever their issues. This is the main hub of our campaign, our main focal point of this campaign, where all individuals go to for support.
This website would help rejuvenate individuals to make them feel better about themselves and know that they are not alone, someone is here for you for support and help.

Depression Campaign Text&Talk
These are the outcomes for which myself and billy have produced for the depression campaign. We had hired out the 700d camera to take pictures, we wanted to present the same settings/lighting as the video. The individuals are the member sending the message in the blue text, telling the audience/individual what they issue/problem is that's hurting them or making them set in a mood/depressed. Each individual has a different issue or problem for which is affecting them or putting them in distress which is shown in the blue speech bubble. And in return, the grey speech bubbles have replied back with a direct line to the online website/online chat line where individuals can freely talk about their issues and not be judged.Â

Technical Skills & Production
When editing the footage we gathered, we tried to make it line up with it the typing parts of the animation. The red clips in the sequence are the animations of the imessages and are linked into premiere from after effects via a dynamic link, all the rest normal clips but some have been nested and stabilised. Â
After rendering the video we had noticed the lighting in the video is wrong, the colour grade is more yellow which is not what we wanted to present/show so we had adjusted the grade and the lighting so its appearance doesn't seem to yellow and so we pumped up the blue to make its appearance seem somewhat much cooler. Â

Collaboration, Technical skills & Production - Depression
The shoot for the depression project campaign went really well, and we had been given the green room once again for the whole afternoon and with billy as my collaboration partner. I had learned a lot of technical skills such as videography and camera positioning, though billy. We took over 40 mins of videography; from different angles and lighting. We had a variety of different video clips to choose from to put in our final video. The shoot went much better than the youth perspective campaign - the lighting and positioning/ angles were much better. We had actually planned out the shoot very carefully which is why everything came out perfect and not just wing it.

Updated Welsk Typeface & Type Specimen
The reason why I had changed the colour scheme of the type specimen is that you couldn't visibly see either the letterforms, text and designs, there were not as visible due to the colour scheme blending the colours together. I needed much stronger and a vivid colour palette.
The incorporation of the illustrations is inspirations from my surroundings in wales, from road signs, objects, designs and architecture. In which have been incorporated as apart of the welsk typeface; adding that little extra touch of finesse, making it that much more appealing and creative but most importantly showing and embodying the wales tradition/style and characteristics.

Script & Website - Depression
Script
This is the script that myself and billy have created and are going to be using for our video for the depression project. During pre-production, we will implement the imessage text within the video and we will tome it with the model typing on this phone. We also need it on the day of the school as a reference for when Harry (model) will need to type and for how long for.

Creative thinking & Development
Website & Advertising/Posters
As an additional aspect of this brief; we are also implementing a website a series of still images/advert/posters. We got the idea of creating a series of still shots of models being on the phone sending a text message to a friend and within this text, it will address the issue/problem for which the model is facing or being worried about. For example, “I can’t handle this job anymore” could be in a speech bubble text and this could be what leads to an individual to depression, so different people with different issues or problems which lead them to depression in a speech bubble text. Possibly completely blurring out the individual's face or body so you just see the outline figure of the model and then having their depression trigger in a speech bubble in front of them/model.
A hashtag and website to get people talking about the issue all over social media and the website for where people can go directly to a counselor/therapist to speak of their issues; the website will be an online social community neighborhood - where anybody could discuss or open up about themselves, make people/individuals feel welcomed.

A rough sketch of what we are planning on doing for our project in terms of execution. Not only are we creating just a stand-alone video we are also creating a website extension for the NHS page. Where individuals suffering from depression can directly engage with other pers suffering from depression or speak directly to a counsellor or a psychiatrist; in others, it's an online neighbourhood community where people can feel safe and speak about anything they want to get off their chest and not feel confined and alone. All of your personal information is confidential; however, we are also considering doing a page where you would see individuals who had conquered or are on a journey going through depression, showing and telling/documenting their journey about their depression. But the main page will be the online chat where an individual can directly speak to counsellors and mentors showing individuals that you are not alone people are here for you, and to not confined in yourself.

Real Stories - Hearing real-life journies and stories for people who conquered or are going through - a series of advice and help through live videos or social media - Instagram - getting more people aware and show individuals how much of a series concern it is.Â
Live Chat  - talking to other peers who suffered or are suffering from depression to talk about their issues - getting people to open up about their problems/issues/health.

We were also contemplating the use of hashtags, thinking of some effective hashtag which will make people aware and gain interest in the campaign. Thinking of other ideas to which we could implement or add on to this project to make it even better. Using the hashtag so it could be seen all over social media so that people’s voices can be heard and seen all over the world/society. Let society here your voice, make this cause a series issue addressing everyone, showing the audience of how much depression takes people lives, and how it can affect everyone and anyone.
Research - Idea Inspiration
I had got this inspiration/idea from the Lloyd bank advertisement campaign of the awareness of mental health. In this campaign, you would see a series of people addressing their issues on social media by writing on that sticky note addressing the issue or mental health and then applying that stick note on to their head with and then taking a selfie with that sticky note attached to their head on social media. To get people aware and speaking of mental health. An effective approach a combination of a still, effective and vivid photography shot of an individual with a sticky note attached to their forehead addressing their issue creating a very intense atmosphere for the audience.Â

All of the equipment which we will be using within our shoot for the awareness for depression project. So we had used the Canon x100 due to billy using this equipment before so he already knows how to use and is aware of it and we used an LED light to give off a much stronger and harsh light.

Video Shoot - Youth Perspective - TERRIBLE...RE SHOOT
The collaboration shoot for youth perspective with Kimberely - After reviewing the shots which I had taken during the shoot; both the images and video shots were quite bad for example the angel of the shots are not consistent, some are quite high which cuts of some of the models/individuals body while others are quite low having their head reach to top of the canvas of the camera. Lighting was quite terrible too, some lighting shots came out kind of well while others not so much; Overall every single shot which was taken within this studio session - the shots were inconsistent and unbalance, so, therefore, I, myself will be retaking the whole studio shot again, just to get better shots.
I did not like how this studio shot went at all the inconsistency in lighting, angle, audio and focus. It would get out of focus at times not being able to see the model clearly. Lighting - being able to see the shadow of the model in the background. Not using a mic for the shoot to making the audio quite clumsy and unclear.
We are going to be doing a redo shoot after the deadline so we can spend a lot more time to craft/create/produce a better video, rather than rushing the production to produce a bad quality video. There is no point having a genius idea with an appalling execution, which is why we are doing a reshoot even if its just me I will be definitely doing a reshoot to create a better video. The decision was made by myself that it would be ebetter to wait and make something special then rush and make something thats just average.Â
Our idea is perfect, we aren't going to throw an idea like this away; having a genius idea but to produce a terrible final piece isn't good, in turn it will just make the idea look bad, so why not spend a little more time on the production and creation of this video rather then rush it to create a terrible piece of work. Spend time to create/craft and produce a better quality piece of work then rushing and creating a terrible piece of work.Â
As you can clearly see in the screenshots below.
The two shots above was an extremely low shot of the model; just about getting the shot of the models face in the frame. Another factor being the bad lighting on the models face, in which turning the model's face/screen yellowish. This shoot art directing was very terrible, considering I was left on my own for the other half, so it was just me behind the screen. While the other time I was occupied with Kimberly for support. And even if we had some good decent shots we would still be had to solve or go around the issue of audio since there was a background noise which plays throughout every single recording as shown below.
Not only was the audio low it was poor quality. All of the mistakes for which we had made during this shoot is all to learn from and improve/reflect upon and make it a much better video. Which is why we will be reshooting this video and make it perfect without no errors this time around.

A series of videos which showcase how bad the audio was; you are barely able to hear it even with the volume being at full blast, and even if the model was speaking loud you would still hear that background sound which is quite irritating.
At the time I didn't pay much attention to the lighting I didn't see much of a change while shooting I only realised in post-production that the shots were terrible in terms of lighting, audio and camera positioning. Learn and improve upon mistakes to only produce better quality work.
Questions.... too uncomfortable and intense.
One important thing which I had also forget to mention while during the shoot was the questions which we had asked the models were quite difficult to answer. some individuals found them relatively quite easy while others found it quite difficult to answer or felt uncomfortable to answer. So before I or we go for our reshoot I or we would need to change our questions and make them less intense and making it easier for individuals to answer and make them feel less uncomfortable. Change questions and make them less intense and uncomfortable, possibly slimming it down.

Idea Change - Depression
Idea Generation
I and Billy thought/generated a series of ideas for our campaign and what direction we wanted to take it. We gathered a load of diverse ideas between the two of use and noted them all down.



A series of images which we document/gathered to generate ideas for the depression campaign, to see if any new or better ideas come to mind.
FINAL IDEA - NO MORE CHANGES - FINAL IDEA.Â
The reason as to why we are changing the idea from the 2-way conversation with a third party listening is because due to it not being very stable enough idea and also it not being very contextual in sending a message out to the society. Looking back at it, it would be quite hard to distinguish what ht message is and it wouldn't be as engaging enough even though it may be VR it will get to the point within the experience where the individual would just be clueless as to what the message is or whats even going on.. so that is the reason for the change. You want something snappy as well as including someform of shock tatic advertisment which enages the aduience and gets them curios as well as instantly figures out the end goal message.
The idea that we (me and billy) chose and discussed/talked about after our idea generation/flicked back through MY research, planning, thoughts and ideas; we had thought of the idea of a two-way conversation via text messaging between two individuals; a person with depression and a person without depression/neutral, texting each other. Documenting/videoing the two individuals texting each other; communicating with each other/one another.
So once we both looked back through my research and my journey through various articles, interviews, idea generation and brainstorms myself and Billy created another brainstorm and communicated and bounced ideas back and forward to one another until we came up with the idea of an emotional campaign based on the concept/idea of texting/via messaging. An emotional, shocking and an engaging/relatable campaign of depression. We are considering of having a cliffhanger at the end of the video to help convey a message to the audience. The message behind this video is to help individuals with depression to speak out and not bottle up their emotions.Â
The plan we have behind this video is to show the audience how people with depression truly feel and think and how difficult it is to come out and talk about their issues, a recurring thing which you will possibly see this final piece either it be a video, giff or advert see the individual who is suffering from depression would type out a whole message, how he truly feels to then only moments later delete that same message and not sent it to his friend. While this action is occurring we will also have a little voice playing in the background of the individual's thoughts/perspective of how he thinks and feels, should he send that message or should he not, a battle of thoughts in his head.
This action shows to the audience that it is quite difficult for people suffering from depression to come out and speak about his problems.
We were considering using two models using their phones to text one another but however would not reveal the models face; recording this video in a dark lit room and just showing the two individuals/models constantly responding to each other on their phones. Having the text message effect appear next to the individual/model rather than then displaying the message on the phone show the text next to the model/individual.
Making this video super dark and shocking (shock factor) and make people truly aware and address this issue and make them come to the realization of how serious this issue is and is taking over peoples lives.Â

So the video would be something like this having the message/text appear next to the model but not showcasing the models face. Presenting/creating a very dark environment/atmosphere for this video to be shot in to get the audience in the zone/environment/atmosphere - getting the audience to truly feel the experience.
