Spent today drinking coffee, writing, working out, and catching up on some 2016 rock albums that I’ve yet to peruse. (Public disclosure: I skimmed my list from a list of 20 best albums posted by Pitchfork.)
My roommate comes home to the the pop/punk/rock raucous:
Her: What the hell is this? Me: It’s new. I think I like this one. Her: Yeah? What’s the point? Me: I wanna stay relevant. I wanna impress the young kids. (Insert wink here) Her: The “young kids” don’t listen to anything that even has a guitar in it.
I guess she does have a point....
It aint really about the young kids though. I enjoy staying semi-current. Because rock isn’t dead.
It seems my music loving peers fall into two groups. Either they love classic rock and the bands of the 60′s - 80′s (”I like the music most people like the most”), or they’re stuck believing the 90′s pop-rock/alt of their adolescence is still the only thing worth listening to.
Can’t a man love Led Zeppelin and Nirvana and still take interest in what’s happening today?

I love this photograph. In treeless portions of the south, there is a creative pursuit of shade opportunities.  This photo, taken from the top of the LA Aqueduct as it passes over a wash on the edge of the Mojave, shows hikers pooled in the shadow of the bridge as they wait for cooler times to arrive later in the day. Leonardo Nicoletti, whose wonderful photos I have shared before, deserves credit for this photos. See his full body of work at https://www.facebook.com/LeonardoNicolettiPhotography/ or http://www.leonardonicolettiphotography.com/).
I remember a similar scene at Scissors Crossing where hikers waited under the bridge for dusk to make the hot and exposed climb into the San Felipe Hills.

So, I know I’ve only got about two or three followers at this point. But! Nevertheless I feel it is my moral obligation to share with you what is undisputedly the best Halloween playlist ever heard.*
Four hours and thirty seven minutes, 78 songs, one day to impress your friends with that mega rolodex of musical what’s-up that is your brain (go ahead, fib a little, why tell ‘em you borrowed this playlist?)
Click this: https://open.spotify.com/user/mellow_yellow89/playlist/6OubaP9Ro6qxBm8ft55B9Z
Or, from within spotify search this: spotify:user:mellow_yellow89:playlist:6OubaP9Ro6qxBm8ft55B9Z
Happy Halloween, you lil’ ghouls and ghosties!
*Result based on the two dozen people who have ever heard my playlist.

Yup. Went really well. I gotta start taking more photos....
About to take 25 of my employees camping (in a thunderstorm) because a month ago I drunkenly thought it would be a good idea.

Should have taken a photo for ya’ll but my main music collaborator is back in town and we wasted no time getting some practice in to brush up on what we’ve had and to start working out a few new parts. The relief of playing again after a month off and realizing I haven’t forgotten my parts was satisfying. The ease of progress on our new material was also a great feeling.
Probably try and meet up with our bass player tomorrow and bring him up to speed (/assign him some homework as we need him and our lead guitarist to commit a handful of covers to memory so that we can have some sort of sizable set list and start booking some gigs).
Lead guitarist will be back in a week and then it’ll be full speed ahead.

Ski season is over! Which is always bitter sweet, except this year when I haven’t been able to ski and I’m just burnt out on the constant flow of tourists. Time to relax and enjoy our lovely town (even if half of everything is closed).
And, in other news, I think Crow Motion now has a pretty solid four piece lineup. It still kind revolves around the core duo we put together all winter, but having a bass player and a lead guitarist is working out really well. I’ve gotta play band manager a bit now to get everyone up to speed on most of the songs the two of us have locked in so that we can start pushing to get some regular gigs out here.
