Good Traits Gone Bad PT. 2

✧ Intelligence → Manipulative Calculations

Intelligence opens doors. It sees patterns others miss, builds solutions from chaos, and solves problems with precision. But when intellect turns cold, it becomes a scalpel for control. The character uses their knowledge not to enlighten, but to outwit and outmaneuver for selfish ends. They frame every conversation as a chess match, and everyone else is just a piece to move.

✧ Suave → Hollow Charm

Suave can melt walls and inspire trust. But when it’s used as a mask, suave turns into surface-level seduction. All polish, no depth. The character begins to treat relationships like performances, feeding others only what they want to hear. People feel dazzled in the moment… but empty afterward, realizing they never actually met the person behind the smile.

✧ Stealth → Self-Erasure

Stealth is the art of moving unseen, which is perfect for survival or strategy. But when overused, it can slide into chronic distrust and self-erasure. The character hides everything: thoughts, movements, emotions, even their identity. Their life becomes one long disappearing act, until they no longer know who they are without the shadows.

✧ Innocence → Willful Ignorance

Innocence carries hope, openness, and untainted trust. But innocence can curdle into willful ignorance. Not all ignorance is bliss. Faced with ugly truths, the character refuses to see them, insisting the world is good if you just believe hard enough. This makes them easy prey for manipulation, or worse, an enabler of harm they can’t bear to acknowledge.

✧ Adaptability → Loss of Personhood

Adaptability is truly a gift. It lets someone thrive in change. But too much adaptation can strip away personal identity. The character blends so well into every crowd that they forget who they are when they’re alone. They become fluent in everyone else’s desires, but mute in their own.

✧ Discipline → Obsession and Rigidity

Discipline brings order, mastery, and reliability. But when pushed too far, it becomes merciless rigidity. The character refuses rest, resists spontaneity, and lashes out when plans shift. What once made them dependable now makes them brittle.

✧ Humor → Deflection and Cruelty

Humor can disarm tension and heal wounds. But wielded carelessly, it becomes a weapon or a shield. The character hides pain behind constant jokes or turns wit into sarcasm sharp enough to cut. Laughter stops being connection. It becomes armor or ammunition.

✧ Resilience → Emotional Numbness

Resilience allows someone to endure storms and keep going. But when survival becomes the only goal, resilience hardens into emotional numbness. The character no longer processes grief or joy. They just endure. The world stops feeling like a place to live in, and starts feeling like a test to survive.

Flaws/Quirks in Male Characters That I’m BEGGING Writers to Explore

✧ Dudes who are bad at sports. Yes, Chad, not every male character needs to throw a perfect spiral in high school. Let him get hit in the face with a dodgeball. Let him (please) suck.

✧ The “pretty boy” who's not vain, just vibing. Like he knows he looks like he walked out of a Renaissance painting but has the self esteem of a lost ferret.

✧ Shy, awkward boys who don’t magically become suave by Chapter 6. No, he’s still weird at parties and says “you too” when the waiter says “enjoy your meal.”

✧ Flirtatious guys who are actually super respectful. He's flirty but not a walking lawsuit. Shocker. He’s playful, not predatory.

✧ Male friendships that aren't emotionally constipated. Yes, two guys can say “I love you, bro” and not immediately punch each other to cancel it out.

✧ The soft spoken leader. He doesn’t need to scream orders or have a “gruff, commanding voice.” He just talks, and people shut up and listen because he’s competent.

✧ Dudes with weird hobbies. like, your guy MC collect antique spoons or have a YouTube channel rating old vacuums. Why not. It’s his passion.

✧ Guys who are clingy and insecure in relationships. Not abusive, just genuinely terrified of being left on read for too long. He's trying his best, ok?

fun behaviors to give dragons that aren't feline/canine based

cause as much as i love dragons purring and roaring i wish there was just more variety in how they would act

clacking their teeth together to show contentedness/happiness (budgies)

using tails as a defensive weapon in a whip like fashion (iguana)

twitching to express that they're not a threat to members of their species (hognose snake)

feeling calm when eyes are hooded/covered (birds of prey)

head bobbing as a threat display (anoles/bearded dragons)

flattening neck or sides to appear bigger (snakes/lizards)

mantling over food to protect it from hatchmates (birds of prey)

wiggling neck as a courting maneuver (budgies)

audibly grinding teeth as a warning (macaques)

maintained eye contact as a challenge (gorillas)

pounding wings against sides as a threat (gorillas)

slapping other dragons with their claws when their personal bubble is invaded (seals)

hoards used as a site to impress mates (birds of paradise)

snorting when undergoing heightened stress (horses)

making repeated loud noises with surroundings to establish territory (woodpeckers)

loud constant arguments with other dragons when roosting (bats)

building lairs that cause a domino effect of change in the land around them (beavers)

slapping their tails against the ground/water as a warning (beavers)

wiggling tail tip to attract prey (various animals)

wiggling tail tip as a warning (snakes)

plucking or scraping off scales as a sign of stress (parrots)

raising spines/frills as a response to danger and carrying on with their usual business as they believe they're protected (lionfish)

and im not saying canine and feline behaviors are wrong or bad to give a dragon (people wouldn't write dragons with those behaviors if they weren't fun in the first place!) but i feel for creatures that are mythological giant winged lizards that you can do more and get experimental with it. often the more unfamiliar behavior the more dragony the dragon feels

The unexpected reason why the drive-through line is so long

my bf has many interesting stories and observations from his new job as a 911 operator

my favorite is how meandering people are, even in the midst of a terrible emergency

they respond to “what is the emergency” with “well, the thing is, four weeks ago–”

and then he’s like “WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY RIGHT NOW”

and they’re like “so what happened this morning was, i said to my wife, i said–”

“WHAT IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING AT THIS MOMENT”

“oh i’m having a heart attack”

my second favorite is how specific he has to get sometimes

like, “what is your emergency?”

“i’m sitting in a pool of blood.”

“… is it… your blood?”

“yes i think so”

“do you know where it’s coming from?”

“probably the stab wound”

“have you been stabbed?”

“oh yah definitely”

Was wishing there was a positivity post for original fiction writers since I see so many about how fanfic writers are doing so much for their communities even when they're not actively writing, and then I thought:

Be the change you want to see in the world.

So this is a positivity post for the writers out here who are working very hard on stories with no established community. Who can't talk about their blorbos and plot lines and brainstorming to anyone and expect them to know what any of it means. Who don't have much to share publicly, but are hoping they will one day.

You're doing a lot of hard work, and I recognize and appreciate what you're putting into the world, even when you're resting.
