“Ha! Well, ‘good time’ is basically my middle name!”

Mike shot the barmaid a wide grin, his laugh bubbling up easily as he clinked his glass on the table. Moments like this were rare—genuine laughter, friendly company. Most days at the manor were a blur of tension and arsonists and…murderers, maybe? So when someone did have time to be cheerful, he clung to it like sunlight in winter.

Besides, he loved new experiences. He never got the chance to drink at twenty-one, and twenty-two… well, twenty-two hadn’t exactly rolled out the welcome mat either. So getting a drink—an actual drink—from Demi felt monumental. Finally, a real adult moment: kicking back with a friend, sipping something sharp, and having one of those casual, deep, soul-searchy chats about…

…baggage.

“Ah… haha…” He chuckled a little too fast, eyes skittering toward anything that wasn’t her. “Let’s not talk about me. I’m a performer—that’s all I do, remember?” His chin dropped into his hand, the smile returning, though softer now. “Besides, no one ever asks how the bartender is doing.”

He leaned in a little. “So, Miss Bourbon… what’s been going on with you?”

"I've always liked that about you. You know how to have a good time!"

Demi laughs warmly as she pours herself a drink, a twinkle dancing in her eye as she meets Mike's gaze across the room. And her words are sincere - while she doesn't know Mike as well as some other survivors in the manor, his energy and charm have always stood out to her, making him seem like the type of guy who's great fun to be around. Luckily, he's not half-bad in matches, either!

But as she walks over to him, drink in hand; there's a subtle softening of Demi's smile. She doesn't exactly look gentle, but she wears an open expression that almost seems like an invitation, maybe to talk, though of course - invitations are always free to be accepted or declined.

"But even you've got to let out your frustrations every once in a while. Murro's been worried about you, you know. I don't know what's going on, but if you need it, I've got an ear to listen."

Xion gasped the moment she spotted the tiny hermit crab. Without a second thought, she splashed through the shallow water, boots kicking up little arcs of seafoam.

“Oh, he’d love him!” she beamed, scooping the crab gently into her palms and cradling it as if it were made of glass. “Do you think Xemnas would let Roxas and me have a pet? He’s harmless—look at him!” She turned the crab slightly, grinning down at it. “No trouble at all.”

Her eyes then flicked to Axel’s shell collection, grin clear as day. “And you—that’s more than enough!” she smiled, her tone soft as she carefully tucked the crab into her shell basket.

“I need ten,” she went on, counting off on her fingers. “With your stash, my stash, and that one shell I left back at the castle… we’re at thirteen now!” She let out a small laugh, the number hitting her with ironic amusement.

She turned back to Axel, practically glowing now. “That means we’ve got extras! I think we should split them—one for each of us. What do you think? You, me, and Roxas. That way we all get to keep a piece of the day.”

“Have you found any shells yet, Axel?”

Blue and gold eyes shifted towards the shore as the little noirette spoke, excitement clear in her words. And then, as sudden as she spoke, she gasped. “Oh!!”

Quickly, she snatched another shell in the sea, storing it safely in the bag in her arms. “That’s seven. I think I need…hm…ten, maybe?” She turned fully now.

“How are you doing over there?”

When Hunter’s face lit up with excitement, Willow couldn’t help but mirror his joy, her smile widening instinctively in response. She settled beside him on the grassy bank, knees brushing slightly as she watched Waffle flutter overhead, wings catching the golden light like little sails. But her attention quickly dropped when she felt something press gently into her palm—a whisper of touch, brief but warm, as Hunter placed a small object there.

She curled her fingers around the item and then opened them again, revealing a single, swirled seed cradled in her skin. “Well, hello, little one…!” she murmured with a small laugh, lifting it to eye level.

Its coat was a stormy grey, and etched with spirals that shimmered faintly in the sunlight like fossil whorls or enchanted stone. Willow turned it over between her fingers, tilting her head with interest. What an unusual thing… Even before it bloomed, it had presence. Potential. It wanted to grow. She could feel it, the way some plants just hummed with possibility if you were quiet enough to listen.

And Hunter was already explaining its detail, voice animated as he delved into the interworkings of the Palistrom tree. Her attention was diverted as he spoke, her gaze immediately shifting from the seed at her eye towards her friend.

She could appreciate his strong passion for his craft—really, it was nothing short of contagious!

“Super cool,” she said with a grin, nudging his shoulder with hers, playful and genuine.

“And if it’s really the intention that counts, then that explains why your Palistrom trees grow so well!” She let the seed dance across her fingers again, eyes narrowing in thought as she traced the unfamiliar patterns on its back. There was a lilt to her tone—yes, she was encouraging him to keep going—but her curiosity was genuine. “It’s the trees that are magical—not the wood, right? Does magic work to help it grow, or is it all hand planting?” 

“ Do you want any help with planting ? I may not be that familiar with Palistrom , but a green thumb is a green thumb ! ” — (Willow and Hunter, mayhaps?) / @harrowing-hatter

❝ Of course ! Please. ❞ Hunter's entire expression brightens and he immediately moves over to make room by the tilled soil for Willow to join him. Waffle fluffs up at the motion, appraising for a second before taking off to wing happily around Willow's head before settling again on a low branch above the both of them.

He's not sure if Willow's seen Palistrom seed before - with all of her vast knowledge and study of botany, it may certainly be possible. But that does nothing to dim Hunter's excitement as he gently motions for her hand and then delicately places the swirled seed in her palm. Even now, even at the briefest touch of his fingers against her skin, he warms from his chest to the tips of his ears and needs to quickly look back at the site he's prepared for it.

When Axel pushed her hair back, Xion caught his gaze. Her eyebrows were still furrowed with sadness, but now she could feel her lip quivering just a little.

So she then decided to take a deep breath in, and then out, looking forward rather than straight at Axel.

It took a moment, but soon enough…

“Hey, Axel.”

Her head fell into her arms, hiding the lower half of her face. “Thanks for checking in on me. I don’t think I’m doing so great.” Another pause. “Xemnas said I was useless again today. Which isn’t entirely wrong—I’m still having trouble with the keyblade. But it’s just…disappointing.”

It would be dumb if she said she felt sad, or left out, or angry. They don’t feel anything. But whatever the situation could be described as, it was…icky.

“Um….over and out?”

How was she not hungry for ice cream?? Xion was broken—she was sure now! Just like Xigbar and Saïx told her…and who was Xion to disagree with those guys? They’ve been in the organization way longer, they’ve been conscious far longer…maybe she was just a little ‘poppet’.

“No, that’s okay. No ice cream. You can just talk to me.” A pause. “I mean…the invisible voice. Me, the invisible voice. Please leave a message after the beep.”

Her face fell once more against the floor, cheek uncomfortably cushioned.

“beeeeeeeeeeep…..”
