i'm a disgusting little centrist when it comes to the was shrue's family real or fake question because to me that matters much less than the way it illustrates the experience of paranoid stress psychosis. like i never want a definitive answer because it just doesn't really matter. do you understand me. like. either way, they experienced that loss and heartbreak. they were confronted with an unflattering portrait of themself as a destructive absence in other people's lives, sacrificing human connection for sociopolitical status. they were exploited and had their mind fucked with and were made vulnerable to manipulation. answering that question makes no difference to the fact that what they experienced was real and horrifying to them. they were vulnerable and someone noticed and took advantage. there is no absolution nor satisfaction to be found in certainty, only further pain and regret. the end outcome is the same.

something I feel like isn't nearly appreciated enough about mob's arc in mp100 is that his background is... Completely normal. I see a lot of people interpreting mob's parents as neglectful or distant based on the few scenes we've seen of them, which greatly baffles me because their few scenes aim to establish his family life as.. completely normative. They have the normal, average quips of a normal family. And I think it's very unique and refreshing because it means mob's troubles and internal hardship isn't a product of his upbringing, it's a byproduct of a traumatic experience and of his own personality and how it coalesces with his psychic powers. And I personally think more media should acknowledge that some people, even with perfectly normative and healthy familial dynamics and circumstances, will still develop very complex internal issues and personal psychology. and on the same note, some people with perfectly normal upbringing won't feel comfortable to confide in their parents and seek an external authority figure to look up to, which doesn't necessarily mean them and their parents are estranged. I dont think mob's (or ritsu's) life have to be unhappy to legitimize or explain the fact he has the personal struggles he does. Embracing normalcy is the main theme of this series.

my new big pet peeve is ppl writing nanami like a bland, formal old man. like no he isn’t exactly cheery but he isn’t super monotone either imo. i don’t think he’d bother excessively w the whole elegant or “floral” speech, nor do i think he’d be slower when it comes to things like gen z-esque convo or online trends. do i think he cares less abt these things and employs them less in regular convos?? yeah. do i think he IS gentlemanly and romantic to an extent?? absolutely. but i’m soo tired of the same “Darling, I’ve prepared you XYZ. When I rewatched the Bridon Arc, I noticed that each time Lu Guang has a nightmare (once in episode 3, and again in episode 4), his watch is stuck on the exact time and date that he chose to abandon his original timeline to try to save Cheng Xiaoshi. More specifically, it's the date and time that he associates with Cheng Xiaoshi’s death: September 13, at 00:05.
