Do my friends really realise the stress they're causing me? Seems like they only half appreciate what I do for them.
I care about them so much but they don't seem to care about me.

Love it when my friends address my misophonia by name. It really shows that they care about me.

Tired of being the mom friend
I wish my friends would notice when I cry out for some sort of attention. But then it builds up when they dont respond and ends up coming out as just "me being angry again." Wish they would notice and act when I'm down like I do when they are.

Note about white noise generators
Sometimes with the generators on, the mix of white noise and sounds that arent usually triggers for me sometimes become a trigger

These revolutionary digital ear bus just raised $250,000 on Kickstarter in 3 days
A company called Doppler Labs just finished the prototype for an incredible new technology that has the potential to change live concerts and even the way we hear the world. It’s called Here Active Listening, and it’s a wireless earbud that, instead of playing music, lets you control the sound of the world around you.

Telling Other People: ‘I Have Misophonia’
I had a really good conversation with a friend after I told her about my Misophonia. It only happened yesterday, and I’m not sure where it would take me, but I was so afraid of telling people about it that talking to her and getting such a good response made me think that maybe you guys would like to know about it. Talking about our Misophonia isn’t easy, but it’s possible.
I had an enlightening conversation with a girl taking the same double-major I take, after I told her about Misophonia. I was sitting with her and another friend on the grass outside the mathematics building after we ran from the languages building to make it on time just to realise we had fifteen minutes to sit and relax. This other friend is the one I got closest to, and she already knew about my Misophonia from the week before, and we were talking about how terrible it is for me to be on a plane for so long with no-where to tun. The second girl heard part of the conversation and got confused, so I decided to jump into the water and tell her about Misophonia.
She seemed very interested. She had a hard time understanding what Misophonia meant, and I used several examples to try and explain it to her. I always like using the regular phobia example – I feel like a person with a cockroach phobia being attacked by cockroaches – and the lion example – I feel like you would feel if you walked down your street and heard a lion coming after you with no warning. She listened carefully, nodded when she finally understood what I was talking about, and asked if it was okay to ask questions because it really interested her.
I have to say that at that moment I wanted her to ask as many questions as possible. I’m not really good at listing my triggers or explaining every little aspect of Misophonia to people, and when they ask questions they help me focus on what I think they should know.
I got to explain how I am affected by different triggers, and she even asked the right question to lead me to explaining visual triggers. Now, this other friend who sat with us has ADHD. She’s very jumpy and I used that example to explain how it feels when someone at the other side of the class starts chewing their gum. Just like she can’t concentrate when she hears music from outside the building, because she’s now concentrating on the music, I can’t concentrate anymore when I hear that faint sound of gum.
Eventually we had to go to class, and it was in that class that I went through a major panic attack that led to no breathing, shaking and what not. But the fact that to those two girls, who sat on both my sides that lesson, I wasn’t just that crazy girl going through a panic attack with no apparent reason, meant a lot for me.
I’m not saying that I didn’t have to explain what happened in there, because obviously they didn’t hear that gum I heard, and I’m not saying that I didn’t have to ask them to stop doing this or that because it was triggering me. I had to do both things, but it was okay. Because I knew that they were trying to understand and it meant the world to me. I knew that even if deep inside they don’t really understand yet how messed up I am, they chose to stay next to me when I couldn’t breath and couldn’t listen to their voices because I was dying inside.
Now I just want to keep in mind that there’s a chance that if and when I choose to tell the other students in my programme about misophonia, it might turn out to be better than what I anticipated.

ASMR Video Rec List

As per Wikipedia:
“Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a neologism for a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli.”
=====
Basically, It’s like the feeling you get when someone tickles your back or plays with your hair, when you first step in front of a heater on a cold day, when you find the perfect spot to nap in sun and when someone takes care of you all in one.
I stumbled upon it by accident after watching a bunch of videos of a woman making tea and finding it relaxed me. I mentioned it to my brother and he showed me the magic of ASMR.
It has helped me to sleep when I am too wired to calm down, staved off multiple panic attacks, aided in midday calming and naps and provided a warm place to go when I feel the need for personal attention.
Some of you will be very familiar with ASMR, some will have no idea what it is, and some of you may be immune to it (unfortunately not EVERYONE gets tingles).
Some people like scratching sounds, tapping, whispering, water running, there’s so many potential tingle triggers so if one doesn’t work don’t give up hope!
Also if the video recommends you were earphones, DO IT!

Misophonia help
A thing to keep in mind: there is a misophonia/tinnitus clinic in Denver, CO that I have visited. If you may not be near Denver, visit a hearing doctor, or someone who deals with tinnitus. I have gotten very non noticable white noise generators (if white noise is not a trigger for you) that act like hearing aids but the opposite. They are like little headphones that generate white noise, and reduce background triggers pretty well. They can diminish the sound and potentially eliminate trigger sounds. They also provide something to focus on, but also allow you to hear voices, talking etc. These are (so far) the only "cure" for misophonia. Hope this helps anyone in need!
