fave tlc character ?

It’s in my username, so I thought it would be obvious, but I guess not haha 😂

My favourite character is, in fact, Linh Cinder. Call me basic or a glazer, I don’t care!!! Thank you for asking.

She’s my Lacy, Heather, or whatever--you get the idea. I just love her overall trope and storyline so much. Ngl, I think I spend more time thinking about her fictional life than my own sometimes, which might be a sign of mental illness... but oh well. I like her for her sarcastic personality, dry humour, stubbornness (me too bro), and just her overall aura. I envy Cinder at times (which is so ironic lmao). Honestly, I think I’m just projecting half the time and hoping to find a big group of friends I can call family, like she did.

I’ve read so many books with characters that are arguably more "complex" on paper than Cinder, but they never hit the same way tlc does. I can’t explain why. Maybe her character is more thought-out than people give her credit for. Her complexity makes her that much more interesting. She goes from literally nothing to a queen. She defies everything that tried to break her down. She proves her self-worth, and that means so much to me.

Cinder's character development is also chef’s kiss. She goes from a scared girl with impending doom hanging over her head to a revolutionary leader--ALL AT THE AGE OF FREAKING SIXTEEN. People try so hard to dehumanize her in the books, but what’s ironic is that Cinder's probably the most human character of them all. She’s more empathetic and caring than the mask she puts on suggests.

Yes, Cinder can’t cry physical tears, but physical tears don’t define humanity. Her willingness to sacrifice her one chance at freedom for the lives of millions--if not billions--is what makes her humane. Her fear of becoming Levana is what makes her humane. Her sacrificing herself to be a literal lab rat in hopes of saving Peony is what makes her humane. Her ability to love is ironically shown more than in any other character.

Anyway. I’m normal about her. (Lies).

yeah yeah I’m still nitpicking shit from this 13-year-old YA sci-fi series but if paper is REALLY so scarce in the third era, how come everyone is able to create signs of protest/support every time the Lunars come to town. now, I hear you “the cardboard used for the signs is biodegradable” and yes, sure, but if we can make cardboard without paper pulp in sci-fi future, then we should be able to make paper without wood. Also, if there’s so little paper/paper alternative that everyone has ostensibly switched to tech, why does everyone apparently have sharpies in their houses to write their protest/support slogans on? am I overthinking the signs thing way too much? does anyone besides me even think this is worth discussing? am I losing it for real this time?
