when harry isn’t working at his stepfather’s cafe, he’s trying to make swim captain and trying to finish all his coursework on time. when he’s not doing any of those things, he’s talking to the boy he met on the oxford hopefuls subreddit. when they decide to meet, he’s elated. he finally gets the chance to meet the boy he’s been crushing on! when the day comes to meet his prince, he learns that his online crush is none other than louis tomlinson, captain of the football team and friend of his terrible stepbrothers. now harry has to decide whether telling louis the truth is the right choice or if it’s better to just let sleeping dogs lie.

Six Sentence Smonday

I was tagged by @runaway-train-works and @hazzabeeforlou to post a snippet of a current WIP so here is another chunk of my greek mythology au

Harry has perfected the look of a struggling new bakery over his many transitions through the world. He starts with modest decor, growing his business and reputation with each community. He enjoys the process of upgrading and improving his little shops, like a fun game to play. He started the new bakery just two summers ago. He likes to think it adds authenticity to his little trickery, making the humans believe in his carefully crafted reality. Afterall, when you’re immortal, you need to come up with some unique ways to make the passing of time more interesting.

7/7/7 & Six Sentence SMonday

I was tagged by @louandhazaf for the 7/7/7 challenge and also tagged by @lululawrence for the Six Sentence SMonday challenge, therefore, I’ve combined the two for a longer snippet. This is from my ABO fic and I swear there is a plot, it’s not just smut.

“This is me,” Louis tells him as he pauses to get his keys out of his pocket. The hand Kiwi is still gripping him with tugs at him and before he knows what’s happening, Kiwi has spun Louis around and has him backed up against the car, pinning Louis against the metal door with a hand on each hip.

“How do you expect me to get in a car with you when you smell this fucking good?” Kiwi murmurs, face close, roving over Louis’ own with hooded eyes. There’s a hint of sweat pooling at the base of Kiwi’s throat and along his hairline, shiny in the street lights despite the cooling night air, and his cheeks have pinked up. Louis knows Kiwi’s skin will be hot to touch with his body temperature rising as his rut takes hold.

It’s a legitimate concern, one that’s already filtered through Louis’ mind, how he’s going to be able to drive them and not be blindingly distracted by the alpha’s scent. Needs must, however. “It won’t be long, I’ll roll the windows down.”

Kiwi presses closer, fits right in between Louis’ spread legs and slides his hands down, gripping the back of Louis’ thighs and hoisting him up with little trouble. Louis instinctively wraps his legs around Kiwi’s body and holds onto his shoulders while he’s held firmly against the vehicle. The alpha rolls his hips into Louis’ centre and his face is so close now that when he licks his lips, Louis can practically feel it. “Could just fuck you here without needing to go anywhere,” he whispers, a secret of sorts, despite the deserted street. “Get in you nice and deep. You want that, don’t you omega?”

Six Sentence Smonday

Lovely @larrymaybe22 tagged me to do this, so here’s a snippet from the GD mermaid fiction ;) 

But she didn’t have much time to question Harry’s intentions as the other girl spun through five different topics in as many minutes, and Lou had to just cling on for dear life; it seemed, once you got Harriet out of the water, she just couldn’t use up her words.

        “I love bread.”

        Louis fought back a small brain freeze as they walked from the circular brick path towards the beach’s boardwalk.

        “Oh?” Not knowing which way the conversation would turn, Louis contented herself with another cold straw-full of shake.

        “It reminds me of sponges! Especially the sourdough kind; I mean I would never use it to wash with, since it dissolves in water and all, but it’s really so clever, you just pull on it and it comes apart but it stays all springy and squishy? And it’s amazing to chew, oh, I love chewing it.”

10 reasons to wear low kudos counts as a badge of honor

You wrote a trope that isn’t popular in fandom right now and isn’t high on search lists—you’re expanding fresh content

You wrote an out-of-the-box characterization 

You’re learning to be proud of your work without external validation, which is a hard process and every little time you do it improves you

You didn’t write smut and a lot of readers only click on fics with smut, while other readers are grateful for new G&T-rated fic

You did write smut, a specific kink many people avoid, but other readers are thrilled to find it

You tackled a difficult topic that might trigger readers and your warning tags rightfully reduce your readership but don’t diminish the importance of the work

You wrote gen fic or wlw or a rare pair and are boosting content in underserved areas

You wrote a longfic that takes readers longer to consume, which is an awesome accomplishment regardless

You had a story in you that needed to come out, and you put it into the world

Even if the story was awful, which it probably wasn’t, you took the risk of doing it anyway, which is how you get better every time you write, and that commitment and grit is 90% of the battle

Kudos are not a measure of merit, which can be hard to remember. Kudos are affected by a million factors, only some of which involve merit. Kudos trickle in over time. Kudos are affected by fandom trends, and how many followers you have. Kudos are affected by who reblogs or recs your fic, which is pretty random itself. There’s no end to the factors that go into it.

Want thousands of kudos? Go to high-traffic fandoms, pick the most popular ship, find the most popular tropes, and write a good fic in that trope. Put in the work of making friends with big names and hope they reblog your stuff. Turn fandom into a transactional experience if that’s what you want. But is that following your muse? Is that what will make you happy? Maybe; if so you’re lucky. But if not, realize that choosing to follow your muse even though it takes you elsewhere is an incredible thing, and the lower kudos counts that result are not evidence of lack of quality or reader hatred. 

Almost all of my fics have fewer than 300 kudos. A handful of longer ones have more, and my top kudosed fic is a silly short coauthored 8th year that is not at all what I’d consider my best fic. My longest fic (105k, took me two months of full-time writing) has only 200 kudos. I’m still super proud of it and feel like it had a great reception and amazing comments. I have a bunch of shorter fics with under 100 kudos.

I think there’s a misunderstanding that it’s expected to get a high kudos count, and in my experience that’s just not true, so I don’t really understand why we talk about it that way. Let’s change the conversation, and focus instead on our pride in our writing and our love for other fics, and move away from using kudos counts as a proxy for worth. You’ll never feel satisfied if you’re turning to ao3 stats for your self-validation.

You ever look at photos of fetus harry and Louis and just think to yourself like yeah that happened? Like harry was once a tiny shy little mop of adorable curls and Louis was a big smile in suspenders. Not only did they once look that adorable but they were on love with each other whilst looking like that.
