HOLLIS OVERSEE AESTHETICS: eternal sleepover

hollis is ready to celebrate his dear friend and spend some time with his other besties and have a NICE time just enjoying themselves and not thinking about the horrible shit that has been happening to people! king is wearing some fancy schmancy silk pajamas with a matching robe along with furry designer slippers and a watch because he gotta now when it’s smash osa pitsmith o’clock

just like he did with nelly, hollis wants to help out griffin since obviously all of twelve is in shambles after cinna moved to tulum. he’s been preparing horchata for griffin and delivering it periodically, so during one of his deliveries he takes the liberty to actually stay for a while and talk. he doesn’t do most of the talking though since griffin ends up word-vomitting about cinna.

therapist hollis doesn’t have cinna’s qualifications, but he tries his best to try and keep griffin’s spirits up, especially because there is some guilt there that silver did get to come back while cinna didn’t so unlike him, hollis isn’t grieving and gets to continue seeing his friend. also notices he is stressed the fuck out about more than just cinna, but hollis doesn’t ask given that he is currently scared shitless since he doesn’t want his step-mommy to be the next person to disappear and he figures whatever griffin is concerned with is kinda rebel related given how much griffin’s behaivor reminds him of freesia’s.

anyway, horchata and snacks for all of twelve are delivered. hollis tells griffin that while he knows he might not be of much help, if they need someone to take care of cinna’s tasks now that they’re living it up in tulum, he doesn’t mind helping since cinna was always very kind to him and his step-mother.

hollis continues making his rounds, six’s floor being one of his stops.

while pista and him are not besties, hollis still cares a lot about him given hollis relationship to deezee and also because pista has always worried him given that lil mr observant notices how every year, pista just looks run down thanks to the capitol overworking him. there is a new addition to hollis’s feelings with tilsee being a tribute. 

always thoughtful, hollis wants to do something nice for her so he arrives to six bearing gifts like scarves and blankets and other products of hollis’s stress knitting. tilsee and cabil are busy training, but hollis finds pista so he delivers the gifts. hollis asks him to please be careful since the whole diosening freaked him the fuck out, but doesn’t explicitly mention it, just kinda generally tells pista he needs to sleep and eat something because he is starting to look too skinny.

robyn is a fucking mess and hollis needs to fix that for the sake of all of his friends. there is no reasoning with them when it comes to taking a short break given robyn’s insistence to care for silver and glue themself to the robot, but mr. osa pitsmith has a plan. 

wanting to tire them out during one of their meetings, he intends to at least feed them so much they’ll feel tired enough to end up taking a nap. his plan does work, but now the way he intended it to. 

hollis and robyn have one of their usual talks, hollis noticing how robyn keeps getting worse and worse, every time he sees them he notices that he just looks more exhausted than before and that worries hollis a lot. but does robyn listen to reason? no. they’re super robyn and want to fight dawn and take over as the person in charge of nursing everyone. hollis doesn’t want to argue so he takes that as a chance to excuse himself so he can at least get robyn something to eat before they leave to go back to silver.

when hollis comes back with a tray covered in fancy schmancy food, he finds robyn passed out on his couch. so the plan did work! hollis is relieved they are finally sleeping, though he is still worried because he knows they only fell asleep because their exhaustion got bad enough for them to not be able to fight it off anymore.

hollis covers them with a blanket and sits on the sofa next to robyn, keeps an eye on them while they sleep and once they wake up, hollis calms them down, tells them that sleeping is not a waste of time because if they intend to care for silver and diose they’re gonna need all their strength.

so they hug, hollis sends him off with some food for silver, not before making robyn promise him that they will take better care of themself.

when he finds out that silver has gone missing, hollis just freezes. he is in shock and doesn’t process it for days, just keeps living life like nothing happened thought it’s very noticeable that there is something wrong with him.

once silver is back and hollis is told about it, that’s when he finally reacts, having a huge breakdown in his room, spending hours crying until he thinks he finally let it all out and is ready to see silver again. he visits them and cries again, glad to see that while they might not be alright, they’re still alive and that is more than enough for poor hollis, to offers to help them with anything he can. 

he doesn’t visit silver again, wanting to let them rest and mostly get silver updates from robyn. hollis also doesn’t visit because he is busy himself, working on a project that keeps him living like a recluse for a couple of days until everything is ready.

he is done and he visits silver for a second time, this time bringing them a huge box which contains a huge collection of hand made gloves in all sorts of styles and colors along with all the letters silver has written hollis throughout the years in hopes they will help with their memory issues.

with everything that has been happening, especially what happened to silver, hollis is just exhausted so when he spots nelly somewhere, he doesn’t even have the energy to be upset, which is his usual reaction when he sees her somewhere.

instead, he pities her. with cinna being the only person who didn’t come back, hollis figures the stylist must be dead. so, he feels for nelly and approaches her. he is very gentle, which he usually isn’t when it comes to her given that they’ve spent years disliking each other. realizing there are more important things to focus on, hollis holds out an olive branch.

they talk, neither of them showings signs of being mad at each other because there is just a bunch of shit happening and they’re both tired while trying to help as much as they can. so, for once, they bond over their own similarities and they rebuilt the bridge that was once destroyed and they way away from their conversation with a mended relationship and a promise to support each other through these trying times.

with dawn and hollis being pals and all, obviously hollis is mad worried for slate. while he hasn’t visited him, he knows what happened to him so he tries to actually be of use to him instead of just stopping by his room and being a bother. 

when he finally pays him a visit, hollis being hollis, he comes bearing gifts. 

he spent a few days trying to procure a foldable white cane for him, and once he got it, he headed straight to his room to offer him his support and sympathies as well as give him a cane which he hopes will help him move around the tower, feeling pity after hearing from dawn that slate refuses to leave his room.

“Less of an act, more of a fundamental flaw.” Digit shrugs. “But thanks for your input.” 

Hollis’s words might’ve hurt if she couldn’t see the logic behind them, hadn’t exhausted what little energy she had for trying to be likeable. She can’t. It’s pointless trying to win anyone over when it’ll always be in the back of her mind that those rumours preface everything she’ll ever say or do. That, and she’s pretty fucking awkward. Look at the lengths she’s gone to just to get a little attention. 

“Alright.” She folds her arms across her chest, leans back in her seat. “Since you’re the expert, why don’t you give me some pointers?” 

...

“Ah. So it’s worse than I thought.“ She should be old enough to maybe at least attempt to fix that flaw, or so Hollis thinks. At the end of the day, as bothersome as it is, it’s not really any of his business. 

“Pointers?“ The thought of Hollis giving anyone advice is a tad bit odd. But to Digit, specifically? It’s laughable. It shouldn’t be given that there is a middle ground that can be reached given Hollis’s own issues with bullying throughout the years, but there is also a key difference. Hollis chose to be kind despite people’s hesitance to do the same for him; Digit didn’t. 

“I don’t know. Forgive me for having my own doubts, but I feel like it’d be a waste of my time and breath.“ Digit is sarcastic and unpleasant as best, which makes Hollis think she is messing with him again. If there is any sign of her actually wanting to improve, Hollis doesn’t see it. “You don’t actually seem keen to listen.“

“Why break the habit of a lifetime?” It’s not particularly pleasant being pulled up on her favourite party trick, less so by someone she doesn’t even count as an acquaintance. The question is there, whether even Hollis having noticed doesn’t mean everyone else isn’t thinking the same damn thing. If she won’t have to manufacture the perfect excuse in future to avoid this momentary discomfort. If she can’t think of something more mature to do than shrug her shoulders in response. 

But she is worried, and she is scared, and it’s never been in her power to bother to lie about any of those–not acknowledging the fact is different. Digit usually gets away with it. Seems it’s all she can do these days to keep her tongue in check (so much for monosyllabic) long enough to keep from spilling her guts to the masses. 

She picks at the easiest part of Hollis’s scolding, leaning forward on her elbows. “Besides, what does maturity get us now? No adoring crowd to please, might as well be rude while we still can.”

Hollis actively avoids being rude to people. He spent years being mistreated by his peeps both on Eight and the Capitol, so he is very much against being mean for the sake of it. But Digit is the perfect example of someone he would be more than willing to ignore his morals for. She makes it really hard to like her. And while it appear that is the last thing she wants, Hollis believes there must be a part of her that does want to be liked, though acts out after not getting that.

“Because the whole crass act is rather bothering, especially when it comes from you.“ She has a reputation, one Hollis actively ignored along with whatever comments people made in regards to her person. 

“Hm. Well, I certainly see why you’re not interested in that. I don’t think there is a way for you to ever be adored by a single person, let alone a crowd, as small as it could be.“
