Another little thing I appreciate about renegade nell is that nell is illiterate but she's still shown to be incredibly intelligent and resourceful. I like how it shows that education/high bred status and actual intelligence are two different things.

Okay but is anyone going to talk about how the name nell literally means light. Nelly was never destined to be anything else she was meant to match billy from the start. She was meant for good from the second she was born.
Roxy means dawn and star for the good witch of the story the lovely sister.
And Georgie/ Georgiana means farmer. the ordinary girl the one with the most to grow and the one who keeps them both down to earth.
Charles the aristocratic fake means free whereas isambard means iron born.
Rasselas ironically means prince and Amadin means brave both of which fit his character perfectly
Sofia and Thomas, Sofia means wisdom and Thomas means twin. which makes sense because Sofia wants to learn everything and Thomas can’t exist without Sofia’s support and protection.
Billy means resolute protector and he certainly is that.
I just love this series and the thought they put into the characters.

i said i'd buy a pond friends print from @kickthepj and i am true to my word (also had a spare A3 frame sitting around so i'm pretty pleased i could frame it right away!)

i love this art so much - the blue, green and yellow splotches under the lilypads really add even more character to an already characterful piece! i did wonder if it would translate well to a smaller canvas than the original, but it's actually not diminished any of the small details at all which is good to see
also

if you say so, PJ...

as a fellow sweet potato lover, i couldn’t resist getting this as well... it smells so good! i can't wait for autumn so i can burn this without risk of it adding to the summer heat and burning my house down!

just watched Renegade Nell and absolutely loved it - it's witty, amusing, delightful! hilarious, exhilarating, provocative? complex, dark (iykyk)
what i didn't love was finding out that a second season was being written, and only a few months after the first season's release it was cancelled "based on various metrics"
absolute bollocks
(rant under the cut to spare those not interested)
disney does not want for money, or views, or whatever other metrics they're measuring by, and they didn't even give it a chance - nor did they even fucking advertise it much, because the first my terminally-online-and-overwhelmed-by-ads ass heard about it was when my mum started watching it on itvX
why can nothing be made just for the love of making a story?
here was an amazing, unique and underappreciated piece of media and it's been thrown away because the idiots at disney didn't think it was doing as well as it could've been in THREE FUCKING MONTHS to line their pockets
i personally don't know if it needed a second season as it's pretty damn near perfect as it is (there were a few questions i would've liked answered, but i'm fairly certain they were left like that because they were planning to answer them in season 2), but that's not the point - the point is that a second season was in the works by the creators and that was stopped by the higher ups (which, by the way, is pretty similar to some of the injustices that Nell was bloody fighting against! it's laughable how often we see this happening these days!)
i don't really have a closing point for this and, frankly, i shouldn't really have been watching it until 4 in the morning, but i was hooked and couldn't stop watching and then had to look up as much information about it as i could because i'm likely autistic and should probably ask my dr about it... and that's when i found out about the whole cancellation shite and got so upset i had to vent about it
and now i've done that, so i'm gonna try to go to sleep but i'll probably just stay awake seething about this instead
goodnight
or, goodmorning, i guess
#h rants#h watches#renegade nell#i know no-one cares about my opinion but i need to get it off my chest somehow right?

I love that Austen directly tells us first that it wouldn’t matter if Anne had never reunited with Wentworth, because that’s not the reality, and therefore the alternative isn’t even a possibility worth considering:
How she might have felt, had there been no Captain Wentworth in the case, was not worth enquiry; for there was a Captain Wentworth;
…and then that it wouldn’t matter whether he even returned her love or not, because she’d be in love with him forever:
and be the conclusion of the present suspense [of his feelings] good or bad, her affection would be his forever.
…and then that just as whether they had met again or not didn’t matter, neither would the possibility of their never being together (i.e. if Wentworth died or if Anne thought he married somebody else): she would still love him and only him, and no other man:
Their union, she believed, could not divide her more from other men, than their final separation.
And Wentworth, even back when he was trying to distance himself from Anne, believing them both to be indifferent to each other and believing himself to want nothing to do with her anymore, feels the same way about her though he doesn’t realize it:
He had been most warmly attached to her, and had never seen a woman since whom he thought her equal.
Anne and Wentworth had nearly an entire decade to move on, and were basically encouraged to by every circumstance possible… but they didn’t! In fact, Wentworth (who had already been in love with Anne the entire time - “never inconstant”) says that meeting her again, seeing her again, after all this time, has actually made him fall in love with her even more:
I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own, than when you almost broke it eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you.
