have you ever shipped something so hard that you become irrationally happy and make a sound akin to steam escaping from a kettle everytime they so much as stand next to eachother
I love Star Trek, I love how every time a federation ship goes into the romulan neutral zone there is also immediately a romulan ship. Like girl, what were YOU doing in the neutral zone?
I’m really glad Tim found a way to acknowledge Lucy’s birthday without actually being there, because I think they both really needed this moment. Up until that scene with Kojo (I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭), we’ve seen him mostly pretending everything is fine and can just go back to normal, and we’ve seen Lucy’s confusion and frustration with his behavior.
Now, we see Tim finally grasping that (a) this distance between them is how things are now and (b) he regrets breaking up with her. That was 100% the face of a man who is realizing how badly he fucked up. He can’t be there for her the way he wants to anymore, and it’s 100% his fault. I still don’t think he fully understands *why* what he did was wrong or how much he hurt her, but I see this realization as the first step.
And Lucy. We know from last ep that not knowing why Tim did what he did is one of the things that’s upsetting her the most. From where she’s standing, she was all in and he just walked away. To her, it feels like walking away was an easy decision. I’m sure she’s been questioning if he really loved her as much as she loves him, and if he actually thought they were worth it.
So to know that he’s thinking of her and wants to acknowledge her birthday shows that he still cares. He clearly cares a lot, given how much effort he put into creating this gift and executing the perfect delivery. And I think she really needed that. He absolutely still owes her a conversation and an explanation and an apology. But at least now she has an indication that this breakup had nothing to with his feelings for her. He still cares. Up to this point, he just hasn’t been very good at showing it.
