Panic disorder is characterized by repeated panic attacks that cause persistent concern about having another attack or symptoms. Note, having a panic attack does not = panic disorder. Symptoms of a panic attack can include things such as palpitations, sweating, SOB, choking, or chest pain. Body dysmorphic disorder is characterized by a preoccupation with a body part(s). The defect that is causing the preoccupation is often very minor or entirely imagined. The diagnosis with the DSM V criteria. Treatment is with cognitive-behavioral therapy specific for body dysmorphia. For patients, education and a focus on their suffering rather than the perceived defect can go a long way. Cosmetic surgery for those with body dysmorphia is not recommended.
