Rotten Deal Pt. 2
Modern!Aegon x fem!reader
Summary: When your ex boyfriend cheats on you and spreads a vicious rumor about you, you want to make him suffer. So you make a deal with the man you can’t stand: Aegon, the most infamous fuckboy at KLU.
Chapter Summary: It’s day one of your deal and it starts off with a bang and a mix of emotions.
Warning(s): Cursing, Suggestive Language, Suggestive Situations, Making Out, Mentions of parental neglect
Word Count: 1779 words
It’s been about an hour and a half of sitting in the library teaching Aegon, and it’s already a huge undertaking. He keeps zoning out and goofing off, more interested in goofing off and cracking jokes than actually learning the content.
“You know. You need my help much more than I need yours,” you say in annoyance as you catch a glimpse of Aegon scrolling on his phone hidden beneath the table.
Aegon looks at you with a mild scowl before clicking off his phone and going to put it in his pocket. You grab his phone quickly and pry it from his hands. “Ah ah. I’ll be holding on to this for the remainder of this lesson,” you say before putting the phone aside and out of reach of the silver haired boy.
“C’mon Y/N. It’s really not a big deal. I get what you’re saying. I don’t even know why we need to learn this stuff. They’ve all been dead for thousands of years.”
You roll your eyes, turning your head back to the textbook and notes before you, “It’s important because we can learn from their mistakes. Their society collapsed, it’s important to see what contributed to their rise and subsequent fall.”
“Easy. Something something blood magic bad. Something something slavery also very bad,”
“And…?”
“And what?”
“What else was bad, Aegon?” You ask trying desperately to get him to remember at least one crucial thing from today.
“Experimentation?” He asks, clearly unsure of his answer.
A satisfied smile takes over your face. “That’s right. Unethical animal and human experimentation and torture.”
You look at him for a moment. He’s smiling to himself and you can see there’s a hint of pride in his eyes. “You know,” you begin casually, “I’m surprised you don’t know more about of this stuff. Isn’t your dad, like, obsessed with old Valyria?”
Aegon deflates. “Uh…yeah. He is,” he says insecurely, “But old fucker doesn’t know I exist, let alone talk to me about stuff. He’s too busy obsessing over my older sister to pay attention to any of his other kids.” The bitterness and hurt is evident on his face. You’ve seen that same look on his and his siblings' faces before. Dejected and hurt. You remember seeing that look on Helaena’s face when her father didn’t come to her art show in high school. And Aemond’s face when his father wasn’t there to support his win in debate. And even Aegon, back when you two used to be close, searching through the stands hoping his dad was there to cheer him on in softball.
You feel bad. You should’ve known better. But before you can say anything, Aegon is back to his usual confident self, “It doesn’t matter though. I’ve got myself a sexy little teacher to help me learn.”
He leans in close to you, throwing an arm around the back of your chair, “Speaking of. Let’s talk about your half of our little deal.”
“What about it?”
“Come on, sweetheart. You really think anyone is gonna believe we’re fucking when all they see is you annoyed with me in the library?” You sigh and begin to put away the books, you suppose that’s enough studying for day one.
“What do you propose we do?” You ask. Aegon shoots you his confident smile, “People need to see us out together. Talking, flirting, kissing.” You grunt at the last words. “We also need to spend some time together in my room if we want it to be believable.”
You shoot him a glare and he playfully raises his arms in surrender. “I’m not saying we bang it out in there, though I can’t guarantee you won’t want to,” he says flirtingly. You have him with your elbow getting him to back off. “I’m just saying that any girl that I’d be having sex with more than once will be in my room once in a while. You wanna be believable? You gotta do it right.”
You nod. This is what you signed up for after all. “Ok. So where do we start?”
Aegon grins and stands up from his seat, hand outstretched to you. “Well. Today we can start by being seen around campus together. Talking. Flirting. That’ll get the rumors started.”
You accept his hand and ride from your seat slinging your bag over your shoulder and handing his phone back to him.
Aegon smiles as he slips his phone in his pocket and saddles up beside you. He snakes his arm around your waist and pulls you in close, leaning to whisper in your ear, “And make sure you look like you’re enjoying your time with me, beautiful.”
You roll your eyes before flashing him a flirty smile. He’s taken aback. It’s been a long time since he’s seen you smile at him. He likes how you look when you smile, if only you’d do it more around him.
“Let’s go, pretty lady. We have heads to turn.” You both make your way out of the library, and you’re all too aware of just how close Aegon is to you. His arm is gripping your waist tightly, his side pressed against yours, his face not too far from yours. You feel your chest squeeze, but you ignore the feeling.
As you walk together, you realize just what a presence Aegon really is on KLU’s campus. People are watching the two of you from everywhere. Many of them look on in confusion at the unequal match you and Aegon are.
Aegon feels you tense in discomfort and lightly squeezes you in reassurance. You look up at him with worry, and he smiles at you in return. “Relax. Just ignore them. Besides, you should be proud to be on my arm.”
You want to shove him or groan out at his cockiness, but you remember that this is part of the show, so you smile at him and giggle lightly.
You ease into his touch and try to act like you're comfortable with this. Like you’re not two people who avoid each other. Like you’re not two former friends who stopped being close. Like this isn’t awkward and scary and uncomfortable for you. And definitely not like your heart feels like it’ll thump right through your chest. ‘You hate him,’ you tell yourself, ‘Right?’
Aegon is completely contrary to you. He feels perfectly content in this moment, enjoying all the attention the two of you are getting.
“You know, love. I’ve been meaning to ask-,” he begins to say but he’s cut off when he hears you gasp and you stop in your tracks. He looks at you in worry, but follows your wide eyed gaze to the building ahead. And there he is. The golden haired bastard, Jason Lannister.
Jason looks at the two of you incredulously. His gaze is inspecting you both. Aegon smirks to himself before pulling you away towards the side of the building ahead of you. What better time to show off than now?
He spins you around so your back is against the wall and slides the bag off your shoulder to fall to the ground. Aegon leans over you against the wall, slightly caging you. You look at him with wide eyes and he smirks down at you. He leans down to whisper in your ear briefly. “Stop me if I go to far,” he says.
Before you can say anything, Aegon cups your cheek and leans in to kiss you. It’s gentler than you thought he would be, lips soft and plush against yours. You kiss him back trying to remind yourself that this is part of the deal. It’s all a show, and this means nothing. Nothing.
Things soon change when Aegon feels you kiss him back. His hands slides down from your cheek and begins running against your torso and brushing his hand against your chest. You gasp and Aegon pulls away for a second to let out a breathy laugh and smile. “Sorry,” he murmurs unconvincingly before leaning back in to kiss you.
This time his mouth is open testing to see if you’ll match his motions, and you do opening your mouth for each kiss. It’s inviting and Aegon tries to hold back his smirk and he slides his tongue into your mouth.
His arm settles on your hip and pulls you flush against him, continuing to kiss you and explore your mouth with his tongue. It feels so good. Gods be damned if he doesn’t know how to kiss with all the practice.
You’re putty in his hands. Completely melted into him. He pulls away and admired the way you search for him with closed eyes. He raises his hand again to push your hair back from the left side of your neck beginning to leave open mouthed kisses along it. He nips at the soft flesh and you let out a soft almost inaudible whine.
You can’t help but enjoy the feeling of the passionate kisses littering your neck, even if it’s Aegon doing it. Seven hells, maybe that’s why you like it. Not that you’d like to admit that to yourself.
Aegon is enjoying it too. He like seeing you drop your icy exterior, and even more so, he enjoys watching your blissed out face. And then his eyes drift to the side of you two.
Jason Lannister is watching your show with a grimace. Aegon can see how he’s seething at the display. He smirks at Jason and shoot him a wink before giving you one more passionate kiss. It’s messy and his tongue is brushing against yours and his hands are romancing all over you. And then it’s over.
Aegon pulls back with a satisfied look and you gaze at him in shock. Your heart is beating hard and though you’ve just been kissed, your mouth feels dry. You’re breathing hard as you search through your emotions, not understanding any of the complexities of your feelings.
Aegon seems to be completely at peace though. Smirking at you before grabbing your bag and pulling you off the wall. He leads you away from where Jason is standing.
“Not bad, hot stuff. You’ll be getting Jason jealous in no time,” he says with a laugh before slugging his arm over your shoulders.
He’s acting normally. Like he doesn’t care about what happened. Like he didn’t just kiss you passionately in front of so many people. ‘It’s all an act,’ you remind yourself, ‘This is just part of the deal.’
You try to shake away the thoughts and the sinking feeling in your chest. This is what you asked for. This is what you asked him to do. And it doesn’t matter anyways. You don’t like Aegon. You can’t stand him.
Right?

Rotten Deal Pt. 1
Modern!Aegon x Fem!Reader
Summary: When your ex boyfriend cheats on you and spreads a vicious rumor about you, you want to make him suffer. So you make a deal with the man you can’t stand: Aegon, the most infamous fuckboy at KLU.
Chapter Summary: Aegon comes to you asking for help and you use it as the perfect opportunity to deal with the disaster of your breakup.
Warning(s): Cursing, mentions of sex, sexual innuendos, cheating mentions
Word Count: 1614 words
When you walked in on your (ex) boyfriend Jason Lannister cheating on you with Cassie Baratheon last night, you didn’t think things could get worse. What could be worse than seeing your boyfriend balls deep in another girl? Well, you find out that things can get much much worse.
As soon as you enter the campus cafeteria and approach your friends, you know something is wrong. The four girls are all huddled together over the table in a heated discussion, and when they take notice of your form near them the air becomes thick with discomfort.
“Hey,” you say plopping down beside Helaena. The silence is palpable as all the girls give you a pitying and worried glance. You can feel your heart drop and your anxiety spike at their reaction, “What’s wrong?”
You see Sara bite her lip for a moment before she speaks, “Jason and Cas are official on socials.” You frown, “Seriously? Already? It hasn’t even been a full day.”
Baela sighs for a moment before picking up where Sara left off. “That’s not all though,” she says, “Jason got called out for everything, and, to put it simply, he started telling everyone that he dumped you because you’re a shitty lay.”
Your jaw drops, “I’m sorry. What?”
“Seven hells Bael, way to put it gently,” Rhaena says sternly. But Baela simply shrugs off her comment. “When Jason and Cas started posting each other everyone asked him what the hell happened,” Rhaena says, “He started getting defensive and not so subtly implied that the reason he broke up with you and cheated on you is because you didn’t…satisfy him.”
“Oh gods,” you exclaim as you drop your head into your arms. You feel like you could die of embarrassment. Helaena rubs your back gently attempting to soothe you as best as she can, “It’s ok Y/N. It’s really not that bad. You’re just too close to the situation.” Every the sweetheart Helaena is trying desperately to salvage your feelings and soften the blows of the news you’ve heard. But this time she’s desperately wrong. Your heart has been shattered, your trust broken, and now your reputation has been completely tarnished.
You lift your head and give Helaena a weak smile in return before facing the other three girls again, “How many people know?”
“Well, Jace and Creagan both know,” Sara says.
“And all of Cas’s friends, plus their boyfriends,” Baela adds on.
“Great so…everyone I know, you guys know, and Jason knows thinks I’m bad at sex. Wonderful,” you stand up and grab your belongings quickly, “I’m going to go to the library a bit before classes. I need a moment to myself.” All four girls nod at you and shoot you apologetic smiles as you turn away quickly. You need to get away from everyone now because you can’t bare to face everyone. They’re all pitying you or judging you and you hate it.
‘Seven Hells, things really can’t get worse’ you think.
Aegon is having a pretty shitty day as well. When he took Valyrian History he thought it would be a breeze. That’s his culture after all. And when he heard that attendance wasn’t mandatory for the class on the first day, he did not return. As far as he was concerned this was a fluff class that he could easily pass by winging it, giving him the time to have fun and focus on…better things.
And now, the consequences are biting him in the ass. He’s still in shock as he stares at the 45% on the top of his essay. It turns out that this class and professor were not easy at all, and Aegon’s passive approach has led to him essentially flunking the class.
“C’mon prof, there’s gotta be something I can do to fix this,” he says pleadingly. The professor looks up at him completely unimpressed as she continues to clean up her work space, “I’ve already told you Mr. Targaryen, there’s no way to change your grade. Your best chance is to improve your performance on any future assignments and exams.”
Aegon groans in frustration. At this point he’s months behind in material and has no idea where to begin. “Might I suggest,” the professor says, “seeking extra help from one of your peers?”
Aegon sighs before nodding his head in defeat. “Yeah, sure. Ok,” he says before shuffling out the door. He doesn’t know anyone in this class due to the whole not attending lectures thing. So, he shoots his sister a quick text asking if she knows anyone in Valyrian History, and her reply comes a few moments later, ‘I’m pretty sure Y/N takes that class. Why?’
Aegon deflates. Of course you’re the only one that can help him. Any idea where I can find her? I need to ask for her help with something,’ he texts back.
‘She should be in the library, but I’d leave her alone right now. She’s not in a great mood.’
Aegon reads the text but shrugs it off. As far as he’s concerned, you’re almost never happy around him anyway so not much will change.
He makes his way to the huge library on campus, and as soon as he enters he scans for your form. He sees you tucked away in a corner reading a book.
The frown on your face is evident even from afar, but even then, he can’t help but think about how pretty you are. It really is a shame that you’re such a stick in the mud and seem to dislike him so much, he’s always thought you were smoking hot and he’d have a good time with you. If only you’d drop your icy walls when he’s around, he bets you’d be extra fun.
He makes his way to you and casually drops into the chair beside you. He throws his arm around the back of your seat before leaning in. “Hey, hot stuff,” he says with his signature smirk, and you audibly groan.
“Go away, Aegon.”
His smirk doesn’t falter even for a second before he continues, “Wow, five seconds. That must be a new record for you, love.”
You shut your book in annoyance before turning to him, you look pissed. More than usual. “What do you want?” You say dully.
“I need you to tutor me in Valyrian history.”
“No.”
“Why not?” He asks, clearly upset with your quick and blunt response.
“Because I’m dealing with a lot right now, and I really don’t want to deal with your shit too.”
Aegon frowns and furrows his brow. He really needs your help if he wants even the slightest chance at passing this course. “Please Y/N. I really need your help. I’ll do anything. Name your price.”
You’re silent for a moment. You’ve got so much going on now. What could possibly make spending time teaching Aegon remotely worthwhile? And then the idea pops into your mind. A terrible idea that can lead to no good. But it feels so perfect.
“Anything?” You ask. There’s a hint of mischief in your eyes now, and Aegon falters in his decision for a moment before doubling down, “Yeah. Anything.”
“Ok. I’ll help you,” Aegon smiles in relief for a moment, “But it’s gonna cost you.”
“How much money are we talking?” He asks.
“I don’t want your money.”
“Then what do you want from me?”
You bite your lip. There’s no good way to say this so you just come right out with it. “In exchange for me helping you pass, I want you to pretend we’re sleeping together.”
Aegon is shocked. You’ve always been a bit of a prude around him so hearing you talk so forwardly is beyond weird though not unwelcome, “Why do you want me to pretend we’re fucking? Aren’t you dating Lannister?”
You drop your gaze away from his. “We broke up,” you say matter-of-factly, “I caught him cheating on me yesterday with Cas Baratheon.”
“Oh…”
“Yeah. And to make matters worse. He decided to go around and say that we broke up because I’m bad at sex.”
Aegon has no idea what to say to that, and he’s not sure anything he could say would even help, so he chooses to move on from the topic.
“So you want to pretend we’re dating to get back at your ex for cheating and lying about you?”
“No. Not date. Just pretend we’re having sex.”
Aegon looks at you quizzically, “What’s the difference?” You can’t help but scoff at the question. Of course notorious fuckboy, Aegon Targaryen can’t tell the difference between fucking and dating.
“I don’t want to fake date you because you can’t keep it in your pants,” you say dryly, “You’ll end up sleeping with some other girl, and then I’ll look like the idiot who got cheated on twice in a row. If we’re just sleeping together then I don’t look like a fool.”
Aegon nods, “Ok…so you want me to pretend we’re fucking to make Jason jealous?”
“Basically. I also want you to tell people it’s good”
“Why?”
“Because if the infamous, handsome fuckboy, Aegon Targaryen says that sex with me is good, then nobody will believe what Jason said is true.”
A wolfish grin takes over Aegon’s face, “You think I’m handsome?” You groan and lightly hit him with your elbow. “Shut up. Do we have a deal?” You ask outstretching your hand.
“We have a deal,” he says, but then he leans over to whisper in your ear, “I’ll see you tomorrow, fuck buddy.” He gets up to leave throwing you a wink before making his way out of the library.
What have you gotten yourself into?

Secrets Untold Pt. 1
Aegon II Targaryen x Fem!Reader
Summary: For the first time, Aegon knows what it is for someone to love him for who he is. Except, it’s not him who is loved.
Chapter Summary: Aegon has run away from the red keep to avoid his duties, if just for a night. But fate has him run into a kind stranger.
Warning(s): Mild Cursing, Mentions of Sex Work, Sexual Situations, Sexual Innuendos.
Word Count: 1824 words
Usually, when Aegon frequented the streets of King’s Landing, he didn’t keep his identity much of a secret. A simple cloak to disguise his figure as he made his escape was enough.
He quite enjoyed the attention his royal attributes brought. Women on the streets of silk throwing themselves at him for a chance at bedding the Prince, or at least his coin purse.
The shining silver Targaryen hair was the perfect cover. No one dared deny him and no one dared harm him. It was a perfect shield and perfect sign of his superiority. So he proudly displayed it. But not this time.
His mother had decided that his marriage to Helaena should occur soon. “A sign of true Targaryen lineage and legitimacy,” she had told him. The thought sickened him. Doomed to a marriage to his sister. Caged in by yet another duty, a duty he couldn’t bare to consider.
He wanted his freedom. A chance to bed any pretty woman he saw without being admonished for disrespecting his wife and the sanctity of his marriage vows. And thus, he ran. Though this time he took measures to disguise himself better in order to avoid being caught.
Aegon roamed the streets dressed in peasants clothing he had acquired in years past, a cloak to shield him from prying eyes, and now a fabric cap to cover his hair.
It felt odd to be at a tavern and not be noticed or recognized. He sat quietly as he drank away his sorrows. His mother would send guards to search for him soon, and he had no idea what he would do. If he was honest with himself, he didn’t know what his plan was even now, fully disguised. Perhaps he just wanted a night away from his life and his duties and expectations. A chance to not be Prince Aegon II Targaryen.
He downed cup after cup of wine and mead, trying desperately to get rid of the pit in his stomach. And before long he was completely drunk, head heavy as he began to finally relax and lose his sense of reality.
That’s when he saw them outside of the door. Guards from the castle, no doubt searching for the missing prince. They walked past the tavern heading in the direction of one of Aegon’s preferred pleasure houses.
His anxiety spiked though his wits were no longer about him. He dropped the coin on the table before throwing his hood over his head and bolting out the door in the opposite direction of the guards.
He ran as fast as his feet could carry him. Stumbling and losing his balance all the while. He didn’t want to be caught. Not yet. Not now. Just a few more hours to be free, please.
He soon realizes that the search party is much larger than he had first thought as he runs to the other end of the street and finds a second group of guards. His drunken and cloaked figure is noticed and in an instant he knows that he’s caught, so he turns and runs down a side street. Hoping to the gods that they’ll have mercy on him. Send him a lifeline so he won’t be caught.
His prayers must be answered because he runs into you. You’re knocked down to the ground by his force and groan out in pain as you cast him a dirty look.
“Watch where you’re going, drunk,” you mutter as you lift yourself off the ground. Even in his drunken stupor, he can tell you’re a beautiful young woman. He’s unsure why you would be out on the streets this late, but he doesn’t care to find out as he sees the guards round the corner.
He grabs your shoulders shaking you firmly. He looks at you with pleading eyes and begs, “Please don’t let them take me. Please.”
Your eyes are wide as you see the armed guards approaching and the terrified look in his eyes that are prickling with tears. You are struck with pity. Perhaps your heart is soft, but as you gaze upon the terrified (and quite handsome) man before you, you resolve to try to help him. You nod, and he breathes out a sigh of relief before hiding behind you as a child would.
As the guards approach you, your breathing becomes heavy. The intimidating men block your way as you look upon them in fear before steeling yourself.
“Pardon us, miss,” the guard says kindly much to your shock, “if you would please move aside. We’d like to see if the man behind you matches whom we are looking for.”
You look behind yourself, and point to the stranger. “Him?” you say with a laugh. “This,” you continue as you grab Aegon by the arm roughly, “is my drunken, whoring husband Harald.”
The guard looks at you incredulously as you go on turning to the young man beside you. “What have I told you about your late nights drinking?” you exclaim in bitter resentment, “You leave me alone to tend for our child whilst you spend away all of our coin on mead and whores. You disgrace of a man.” You turn back to face the guards and point at them, “Perhaps I should let the guards take you. Teach you a lesson of respect and how to be a proper man. Yes, by all means men. Take him. I am at my wits end with him.”
Aegon is shocked by the scene you make, as are the guards who are uncomfortable by your ranting outbursts of your cheating “husband”.
“That won’t be necessary, ma’am. We assumed he was someone else.” There’s a soft breath of relief from Aegon who still hides behind you. “Why did he run though?” another guard pipes up. They all gaze upon him intently Aegon is too drunk to think of something smart gaping at them like a fish as he’s sure you’ve both been found as liars.
“He’s indebted to certain people. His excessive spending on his…hobbies have put a price on his head to some. I’m sure he thought you were there to collect him,” you say confidently, and Aegon nods fervently. Gods when will this be over he thinks to himself.
“Now if that is all you require, please allow me to collect my husband and leave. We have a young daughter at home waiting for her father to return.” The guards nod at you as they turn to leave.
You grab Aegon quickly by the arm and pull him away from the guards before they can second guess their decision to let you both go. He’s stumbling as he follows behind you. Alcohol still clouding his mind and movements.
He takes a moment to look upon you. Face illuminated by the moonlight and the torches on some of the walls. You’re rather beautiful to him. The alcohol in his system makes him think you may be the prettiest woman he’s laid eyes on.
“You’re pretty,” he says drunkenly as he stumbles closer to you leaning his weight on you. You falter as you try to support him and continue guiding him down the streets. “Thank you,” you say curtly.
“Where are you taking me? I have no coin to pay you if you wish to bed me,” he says with a drunk smile and slurred speech. You look at him with offense as you push him off you, “I’m not a whore. I’m taking you to my home. You’re far too drunk to be left on the streets by yourself or to avoid being arrested.” Aegon pouts and for a moment you find the drunken stranger before you to be endearing though perhaps quite foolish.
You lead him through a few more winding streets before arriving at your door. You open it in a huff as you guide the young man into your home. He looks around confusedly. “Where’s the babe?” He asks. You can’t help yourself from laughing, and Aegon thinks it sounds lovely coming from you, the pretty stranger girl who saved him. “There’s no babe. I lied. It’s just me here,” you say.
You lead him to the bed so he can sit while you prepare him something small to eat and drink. Aegon sways as he sits, observing you quietly. In the soft candlelight of your small room you look quite heavenly. You approach him with a small smile as you hand him a piece of bread and a cup of water. “For the aches tomorrow,” you nod.
He watches you in confusion as you kneel before him. He’s seen many ladies like this, but you said you weren’t a whore? But then he watches as you lift his foot and begin to take off his leather boot. You’re so careful with him and treating him kindly though you’re not obligated to. You’re not a servant, and you don’t know he’s the prince. Why treat him so kindly?
You move to remove the other boot when he breaks the silence, “What’s your name?” You smile as you take the boot off completely, “Y/N.”He repeats it. Liking how it sounds.
“And what’s your name?” You ask, as you stand to put the boots away. “You said my name is Harald,” he says with a big smile.
“Is it?”
“No”
“Then what is it,” you laugh.
He’s quiet for a moment as he thinks, and you wonder what he could have drunk to not even remember his own name. “Jacke,” he finally says, “My name…is Jacke.”
You smile at him as you approach him, “Well Jacke. It’s rather late so perhaps we should get you undressed so you can sleep away your drunken state.”
He nods as you go to remove his cloak before hanging it. Then you go to reach for his hat, the one thing keeping his real identity secret. “No!” He exclaims, “Don’t touch my hat!” He raises his arms to shield you from reaching it and you look at him in total confusion before sighing.
“Alright. We won’t touch your hat.” You move to the top of the bed and open the thin blanket for him to get under. He happily settles on the bed his exhaustion already getting the best of him. You move the blanket to cover him gently, and once again Aegon is struck with how gentle and tender you are to him for no reason at all.
You move to turn away from him and leave him to sleep but he grabs your wrist gently. “Thank you,” he says softly. He can’t remember the last time someone treated him so kindly and genuinely. “You’re welcome,” you say with a smile as you move away, “Goodnight, Jacke.”
He rolls to his stomach as he settles to fall asleep. “Goodnight,” he murmurs. And for a brief moment before he slips off, he thinks to himself, If only I really were just Jacke.
