1. American light: Pinpoints up and down the map; clustered on the east coast, the west coast; scattered and strung out like stars over dark plains. They’re the mark of the living, modern, electric lightbulb all-nighter, all-american boys and girls, and they multiply year by year.

2. Goose down: She was 11 years old when Grimm’s swan goose carried her baby brother away. 

3. Mirth: I love the way you have with words, and I pray there is more laughter in your life than in your poems. Love is violent, bodies are nightmares, and growing up is never what you hoped: must it always be so?

4. Adulthood dream: There is a house, and a person inside the house. Now there are two people inside the house, and everything is clean and fresh. It’s dangerous to warp timelines; don’t let the string break, or you’ll be watching the sunrise with young eyes.

5. Surveillance: It was impossible for him to feel alone in his empty house. He was comforted by the knowledge that someone was watching: the government, aliens, god, whatever, whatever, and etcetera. It didn’t really matter, did it?
