There's a love triangle element there, of course. And we talked about that a lot; I spoke about that with Rob a lot. And that's definitely something that he, I mean, clearly, wanted to infuse into the story. . . . It's not just that this thing is haunting you, you might kind of want it as well. . . . And it, of course, leads to a larger theme of the darkness that we might be pulled to, and what we think we need or what we really want to want, and what we really want. And I think there's an internal battle going on within her, for sure, throughout the whole movie. And I think she really does love her husband and I think he really is her anchor to the earthly realm in every way. And I think she's holding to that so tightly. And then when he goes away he leaves her more vulnerable to these darker forces that exist within her that I think she really is trying to repress in order to be the woman that she's supposed to be by every standard of the time that this takes place in. It's interesting because when we were talking about those scenes at the end of the movie, Rob wanted there to be a palpable desire there. It's a sacrifice for sure, but there's an "indulging in the thing that you're trying to stay away from" element, as well.
— Lily-Rose Depp

i’ve been silently watching and observing obx from afar and while it seems very Cornball i am enjoying seeing the unfolding unique dynamic between the bad guy and the pretty girl. and the fact that it’s the underdog outlier of the two main ships in an insufferable ship-war (with one of those main ships being essentially dead is MESSY AF and i’m here for it). rafe and kiara i hope y’all get together.

don’t get me wrong. i’m still so passionate about oshamir, i’m just taking so long to deal with the cancellation and the rage i feel about it, but i do hope one day in the future someone will revisit them/their story even though it’s heartbreaking it’s not continued on the acolyte.

"And then with Lily, it’s the complete opposite. [Ellen is] the source of Orlok’s twisted obsession. And of course it’s not love, but an addiction of sorts. I was blown away by her performance when we were shooting – even when I was just a shadow of a hand, which is when, as an actor, you get to appreciate it the most because you’re not really in the scene, so I could just watch her work. Whereas when we were doing our moments I’d get so caught up in what it meant. But the way she committed to this movie … when I watched it, the jaw-dropping scene is the one between her and Hutter, where she’s possessed. It was the most terrifying, unsettling thing I’ve ever seen and it’s all happening in front of the camera. There’s nothing else – it’s just her and a beautiful shot. It’s out of this world, quite literally." bill skarsgard on lily-rose depp and orlok's obsession with ellen hutter for anothermag.

jumping on ellen x orlok before it has stans AND haters alike.. (bc let’s face it eggers seems to be going for macabre sexuality and desire while the obsession is still there and i love the phantom of the opera/wuthering heights implications)

we have confirmation helaena is the one and ONLY person able to bring aemond to his knees and break through his armor because of the depth of his care/he has deeper feelings for her. this and with the fact that whatever he does this point forward will forever be tied to her, because she told him his death. helaemond, the power that you have.

so much information about helaemond has been relayed after the season has ended, as we now have confirmation that:
aemond and helaena’s relationship is "special”
helaena is the only person that can really get to aemond’s heart
he cares about her in a way that breaks through his armor—and he doesn't have that with anyone else
helaena is the only person that can keep him as aemond
she could say what she wanted and he wouldn't throw her over the balcony
aemond’s only acts of compassion of the season are tied to his sister, for whom he may have deeper feelings
she has a power that nobody else has over him
ryan condal and sarah hess emphasized to geeta patel when they started shooting this episode that helaena was the one person that aemond felt connected to, that could actually tame the beast that was aemond
aemond left the room because he saw he hurt helaena and felt ashamed
geeta patel is keen on exploring aemond and helaena more in season 2

the implications that gwayne is enraged his sister who he never grew up with to consider as much/raised her son he very much could consider his own son by now finally snaps when he sees her lover has a her token of reciprocated affection. and him trying to make it completely criston’s fault despite it being obvious alicent wasn’t hiding much and that she reciprocated by giving him the favor. this much bringing gwayne to literal TEARS when his family has been dishonorable this entire season, but it’s when he realizes alicent reciprocates he finally snaps.
you may interpret this as you will, but i’m sensing the most jaime-type vibes from him this whole season, especially this scene 🤭
