Hi, I'm J. This blog is a side blog so that I might gather a community of people around me so that I can find my faith. I hope that I do not offend anyone along this journey.

What are the main differences, in your opinion, between Christianity and Judaism’s understanding of G-d? (Taking Jesus out of the equation). Do Christians relate to G-d differently than Jews? Genuinely curious Christian follower here. Loving reading about your journey and I hope all goes well for you over the next year! Rooting for you.
wow so you’re very nice, thank you
I don’t know a lot about Christianity’s conception of G-d aside from my own experience being raised Catholic for the first nine years of my life.
it’s kind of hard to answer this without invoking Jesus. the first difference that comes to mind is Judaism’s emphasis that G-d is beyond our understanding, is not male or female, is beyond a body. Christianity, from my understanding, does not share that belief. sure, we both believe in G-d as a king and creator, but that physical image of G-d is very different.
personally speaking, I had this feeling that G-d was watching my every move carefully when I was Catholic, and was judging me on the spot. I don’t have that feeling as a Jew. I know the Jewish G-d is still a judgmental one, but it doesn’t have that Santa Claus feeling to it. again, I was raised Catholic, so that might just be a Catholic guilt cultural thing.
I think it’s important to acknowledge Judaism’s understanding of transgressions and sins versus Christianity’s, because those are prominent ways in which we relate to G-d.
that’s all I’ve got without getting into the whole Jesus part. hope this answered your question a bit.

Well that was awkward.
A few minutes ago I received a call from a woman in New York about Jewish studies. The conversation went well until I told her that I have not converted and then her whole attitude changed. In some sense awkwardness was refreshing since I didn’t get any awkwardness or denial from the Jewish community here in town. On the other hand why cold call someone and be like that…

Rose Mallinger, who was killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue yesterday, was 97 years old. 97 years. She lived through the Holocaust, was on this earth, a young woman as 6 million Jewish people were killed for being Jewish. Spent her whole life surrounded by people who looked at the atrocities of the Holocaust and said “never again.” Lived 97 years and died at the hands of a gunman who killed her for being Jewish.

online jewish library... ish
this can be reblogged and i encourage you to, if you want.
anyway! i’ve put together a jewish library of sorts. (it can be accessed here.) the library has been put together with the help of @/jewish-kulindadromeus, ey gave me access to em’s library. (also with the help of everyone in the torah study discord who listed books/… in the channels).
anyway. this library of sorts includes: books, podcasts, movies/tv shows, and music.
the books have links to where you can get them on amazon; the podcasts, when i add them, will have links to where you can listen; movies/tv shows i’ll list where you can find them (netflix/hulu/etc); and music will be on youtube or spotify and i’ll have a comprehensive playlist on spotify linked at the top.

I needed this today
“There’s an aggada that even Moses didn’t know everything that was put in his Torah (Menachot 29b). You won’t ever know everything either. So it’s much more useful to enjoy each day’s learning than it is to panic over getting “there” fast enough. There’s no “there”. G-d is present in every sentence of every chapter, not just at the end of the book.”

I know it's Shabbat but I have a question or something
So my 5 year old has been raised Christian... I started off as the nanny now I pretty much foster him. There is a lot going on with this little boy and I don't want to confuse him. I could take him to synagogue or maybe ask my grandparents to watch him.... I don't know what to do.... I miss going to synagogue though. Any thoughts?

We are not “Christians”, we are Messianic Jews. I was born to Jewish parents with a long line of Jewish roots. We practice Jewish holidays, recite Jewish prayers and keep Jewish traditions. We are here, we are valid and we aren’t going anywhere.

Rosh Hashanah
I can’t attend this year due to not being able to get to Synagogue. I know that I have not been active on here, but I’ve been working on being a better person. I have grown so much in this past year, I took a mental health break to get away from who I was becoming... I even went back to a non-smart phone. Anyways, I feel so much better than I did this time last year. I have not converted yet, but I hope to. I hope to also begin again by being in community with fellow prospective converts. Fell free to follow me an I’ll follow back from my main blog
