Hello friends, enemies and mysterious strangers, we thought we'd break the silence with a small double announcement:
1) The last of the official Hermitcraft Fan Art Galleries is running at the moment, and there's still a week left to send in your submission! You can find the main info post about it here and a handy info PDF about it available here , but in short you can send in your art of the hermits and have it appear on the Hermitcraft server as a minecraft painting.
A 25 person group painting with a limited resolution makes for the kind of fun challenge we'd be tempted to try and do a Hermitzine edition about if the actual hermits hadn't gotten to it first. :D
We encourage you to go and participate, it's a chance to show the hermits our appreciation!
2) We're starting preproduction for Hermitzine 10! Keep an eye out for some teasers in the near future, maybe you'll be able to guess the theme before we announce it ;)

will applications for the season 10 zine open when the season ends? this seems super fun and i would love to (try to) participate :D
Hi!
Hermitzine's on a mini hiatus at the moment while the mods focus on school work / get sighted in the wilderness and mistaken for a brand new cryptid, but we'll be getting back into the swing of it with applications for a new edition once we aren't quite so busy / finish digging ourselves out of this unmarked shallow grave.
Rest assured that when the wheels start spinning on Hermitzine 10, we'll make plenty of posts and noise about it, so you won't miss out on applications.

Digging into my backlog since I've been on a starting-projects kick lately as opposed to a finishing-projects kick 😅
This was from last summer! @hermitzine's alphabet themed zine 💕 How many F things can you spot?

We're just a bit over an hour away from the Behind the Zines panel!

Introducing the Hermit-a-Day Streamathon!
Good morning everyone! It is with no small amount of excitement that I bring you today's announcement!
On January 26th, Team HADM will be hosting a streamathon featuring some of our favorite artists and friends of the blog! We've got ten hours of programming lined up for you, including games, live art, and two amazing panels featuring incredible guests like a10 (Hermitzine, Morning Star Zine), Sixteenthdays (The Hermit Archives), MawoftheMagnetar (Eldritch Horror Keralis), and more!
During the streamathon, we will be taking tips to help cover expenses for Hermit-a-Day May. Your financial support would be appreciated, but of course will not be required - you're more than welcome to just sit back and enjoy the show!
I'm really thrilled to be able to bring this show to life, and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in the chat on January 26th!

Curious about how we run Hermitzine behind the scenes? Looking to run your own zine and not sure where to start? Our mods Unnecessary Redstone (logistics, art) and a10 (participant communication, social media, art) will be appearing on the Hermit-A-Day streamathon Behind The Zines panel alongside some other amazing zine mods to talk zine creation and logistics (and spreadsheets!)
(Red promises the spreadsheets will be interesting.)

Are you aware of any other zine accounts within the hermitcraft/trafficblr community? Im looking to get involved with this sort of stuff but honestly have no idea where to look!!
We have just the blog for you! @mcytblrsource tracks all things happening in the MCYT fandom, all kinds of events including zines! There are currently a few zines with open applications, or gearing up to opening them, and you can find them listed there.
And fun fact, our mod a10, who is currently writing this answer and is VERY excited you asked, helps run the blog!

Three questions about the zines (bear with me please :D)
if they’ve already been answered then feel no need to answer
Is there an age restriction for how old someone has to be to participate in a zine?
Can someone with (nearly) no social media join a zine?
And what if you end up getting chosen for the art side of things, but you also want to write something with your piece? (and the other way round of course)
Absolute love the ninth zine, and can’t wait for the next one!! (will definitely be signing up for it :>)
Great questions! We've got an FAQ where you can find the answers, but they're also worth answering here for people to see:
1. Applicants need to be 15 years or older when applying to participate in the zine.
2. Absolutely, we ask for social media links in the applications form in case we want to check out more of your work, but we pick applicants based on their work, not their follower count. If you don't have social media links or don't want to share them, you don't have to, you can share your portfolio pieces through something like a dropbox or google drive link.
3. To cover a related question that comes up a fair bit: People are free to apply as both an artist and a writer, but at maximum they can get accepted for one of the two (and we'll let you know which one in the acceptance email). Now, if you're a writer and you want to also draw something to go with your piece, or an artist who'd like to incorporate some writing (perhaps as a short comic)? The short answer is: ask the mods. As a rule we're fans of that sort of thing, as long as it's not an attempt to jump between categories, and as long as what you're pitching is something the mods feel confident you'll be able to execute (which is to say, if you're a beginner artist and a skilled writer, you get accepted as a writer, then pitch a piece that's mostly illustration with a paragraph of text? Not happening.)

May I join the season 10 fanzine? I would love to be a part of one!
We love the enthusiasm!
When Hermitzine 10 rolls around, we'll open applications, and anyone who wants to participate will fill out a quick google form and show us 3-5 examples of their past work (eg art or writing).
We'll go through those applications and pick anywhere from 40 to 75 contributors, they join us in the zine discord, and everybody has around 3 months to create their piece for the zine. We can read more details about our application process in our FAQ here!
As a bit of a side note: our next edition will be Hermitzine 10, but it won't be limited to season 10 of Hermitcraft - our editions all have themes (like music, or environments), but they aren't season specific. The content inside a Hermitzine edition could come from any of the seasons of Hermitcraft!

Hello!
I was wondering if I could upload your zines to archive .org since this was a free-to-read zine. There will be proper credit, of course, with links to your socials and website, and I can send a link here back if you want.
Thank you!
Hi (and thanks for being so patient on a response)! We'd absolutely welcome you uploading the zine editions to archive.org, particularly since you've already addressed making sure it has proper attribution and stays as a free item! If anybody else wants to upload it somewhere or suggest we upload it somewhere, feel free to send us an ask, but do keep in mind that we're probably gonna say no unless it stays free, gives proper credit and avoids handing over content rights / excessive usage permission to a third party.

Note
do you need to premake your art before you apply to the zine?
Nope! We announce applications on our social media whenever we start a new issue of Hermitzine. Artists and writers apply and share some of their previous works as part of the application. If they get selected, they join the zine discord and have a few months to create their zine piece, with check ins along the way.

Note
would you mind if hermitzine was brought up to a cc(s)?
We don’t mind at all! We try to make Hermitzine editions something everybody can enjoy, and we like the idea that any hermit can check out one of our editions and see their creative efforts reflected back at them in the form of the creative efforts they’ve inspired.
That said, if you’re sharing Hermitzine with a CC, please be courteous about it - a fair few of the hermits already know about Hermitzine and check out new editions when they come out, and for the hermits who don’t, spamming their chat about it probably won’t make them feel like checking it out any time soon.

Note
how often do you plan zines? are there ones in the future youre already thinking about?
We don't have a formal schedule for how often we start new editions, it's more of a "most of the mods have the time for it, we have some cool ideas and we're all starting to feel the Zine Urge, let's do another edition" basis. Since our editions are based around themes, we're always throwing new edition options back and forth. Some of them are more viable than others - we're probably not going to do Unnecessary Redstone's pitch of "an edition that's just one big fight sequence, even the title page and credits" but we have some ideas we're pretty excited about for the next edition. :D

Note
Do you only start making the zines after each season is finished?
Great question! As a general rule the timing of Hermitzine editions isn't related to Hermitcraft seasons, and neither is the theme - there are some hermit related zines out there that are season specific, but we're actually a bit more general. Each edition we put out is around a theme (music, environments/places, the ABCs, etc), but contributors aren't limited to specific seasons.
The start of Hermitzine 9 lining up with the end of Hermitcraft season 9 is purely coincidence, Hermitzines aren't released on a schedule! So while we definitely won't wait for the end of season 10 to open applications for Hermitzine 10, we don't have a definite date to announce for it yet either. So keep an eye on our social media to be the first informed when Hermitzine 10 happens!
