Canon and OC || Platonic love || Long lost friendship || Redemption (tentative), Angst, Acts of service, Words of affirmation || Romantic love (OC and OC) ||
TW: Slight depiction of violence (more to be added)
Summary:
A girl is somewhat connected with Morgarth by a deal. She doesn't know who he is, or more likely, she doesn't remember him at all. Eyes have been watching her and he had been waiting for her for years. keeping his side of his deal, and now its her turn to repay it,
or is it?

The apartment felt as cold as it was empty. The weather outside was cool, as always—a perk of living in a country with four seasons instead of just two, like back home, where they called them wet and dry.
I sat on the floor, hugging my knees, listening to my father’s voice note on repeat.
“...Call me sometime, my dear child...”
I had called him yesterday, but he declined again—another business meeting. It was always the same: busy, busy, busy.
A notification buzzed on my phone, breaking the loop of his voice. I paused the recording and opened the group chat.
[Luke: Anyone wanna skip instead =D]
[Luke: skdfjejkk—]
[Hafsa: ???]
[Irene: I smacked his phone and choked him. We're on the bus now. Where are you?]
[Hafsa: Just getting ready. I'll be there, don't worry ^^]
[Hafsa: Where’s Leo?]
[Leo: On the road, pom-pom. Meet you guys in class.]
[Luke: Get a roo—sdjhfhrfkk—]
[Hafsa: ? Again??]
[Irene: First day of campus, guys! Woo! If you find Luke's corpse on the ground...]
[Irene: Leave it be :) ]
[Hafsa: See you there then ^^]
Irene could be terrifying, but only to Luke and Leo. With me, she was always happy—too happy, maybe. I didn’t know why and didn’t want to think about it too much.
I got up from my spot by the window and walked over to my closet. The sight was as boring as ever—rows of pastel-colored clothing, a few black long sleeves, and not much else. Still, I decided on my usual pink. The other colors could wait until tomorrow.
I pulled on a pastel pink turtleneck and paired it with my pink hijab, a white coat, and some fluffy boots—if I could find them. Once I finished getting ready, I glanced over at my table and noticed my pink roses were wilting. A sigh escaped me. I’d replace them later today.
⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ .
When I arrived on campus, it was just in time before class started. As always, I was the first to arrive than any of my friends. I hung up my coat, took my usual seat fourth row from above, and gazed out the window near my sight. The view outside was still cloudy. It was always cloudy.
Maybe I should make a trip back to Malaysia soon—without Dad. Even if I asked, he’d just be busy. Always busy. I’d ask my aunt instead; maybe she could let me stay with her for a while—
“Hafsaaaa!!” A loud whine interrupted my thoughts. That was Luke. Dear, sweet Luke—a crybaby, really.
I turned my head just as he bolted into the classroom and ducked behind me. “The Godzilla has awoken, and I’m scared!” he whined dramatically.
“The what?” Irene’s glare could have melted steel.
Luke yelped and crouched down completely, using me as a human shield. I stayed quiet, rummaging through my bag. Where was my sketchbook?
“Irene, come on! It’s too early for this—”
“It’s 9 a.m. And you’re dead!” Irene lunged at him, and Luke let out a high-pitched screech that could rival a girl’s before bolting out of the room.
They were good background noise sometimes—entertaining, even. A cute couple, really.
I doodled while the screaming turned into a mix of punching and whining. My pencil glided across the page, sketching the vague shapes swirling in my mind. Sometimes the images were vivid; other times, they were just a blur. I didn’t think too hard about it—I just drew whatever came to me. Isn’t that what artists do? Honestly, I wasn’t sure.
“What’s that this time?”
The voice was familiar. I looked up to see Leo standing in front of me. I greeted him with a smile.
[“I don’t know yet. And hi, Leo. How was your break?”] My hands moved smoothly now, the RSL flowing easier these days. Though, for some words, I still preferred to type them out.
“Good, good. And those two—are they flirting?” Leo gestured toward Luke and Irene, who were a few seats back, still bickering.
[“If you can call it that.”] i mocked them with my gesture, holding back a laugh and went back to doodling while Leo placed his bag beside me and took a seat.
“Grandma got you something, by the way. She insisted on making up for last time—” He started rummaging through his bag.
[“Leo, I told you, she didn’t mean to! It’s not a sin!”] I protested, hoping his grandma wouldn’t still feel bad about it. She’d once given me chocolate that had alcohol in it, not realizing, and had apologized profusely ever since.
“And you know my grandma—she always worries about you,” he said, finally pulling out a small bag. “Anyway, here. A bag of halal chocolates she bought overseas.”
[“Oh dear, did she—”]
“No, she didn’t get ripped off,” he cut me off, patting my head and then my chest lightly, as if to calm my unnecessary worry. “Mom went shopping with her. It’s all good.”
Relieved, I smiled and took the bag from him. Leo’s grandma—whom I now called Grandma too—really was something else. How I missed mine...
“Oh, I get it now,” Leo said, snapping me out of my thoughts. He turned my sketchbook toward himself, squinting at the drawing. “It’s a... frog!” His teasing tone made me whack his shoulder with the bag of chocolates.
“Yes, yes, a fish! A good one, actually,” he chuckles and I shot back, rolling my eyes and pouting as he chuckled. I shoved the chocolates into my bag, trying not to smile.
“You’re getting better at it,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “What did the doctor say, anyway?”
I paused, my hands still as I stared at him for a moment before looking away.
“Oh...” His tone softened, and I thought I heard disappointment creep in. “No progress?”
I stayed silent, the weight of his words settling over us like a blanket. Thankfully, the professor walked in, breaking the tension. I quickly put my sketchbook away and reached for my textbook binder.
[“As usual,”] I signed swiftly with one hand, then grabbed a pen.
Leo stayed quiet after that, pulling out his own textbook as the lecture began. Even Luke and Irene, sitting right behind me, had gone silent. Without their chatter, the classroom felt almost empty.
I smiled faintly and turned my attention to the lecture, letting the professor’s voice fill the void.
⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ .
At lunch, they were all talking about something when I set my tray down, Luke suddenly sprang up, slamming his hands on the table.
“We agreed we’d do it outside!” he shouted, making heads turn.
Irene yanked him back down into his seat. “After what you did last time? Nooo thank you. We’re doing it indoors,” she hissed.
I turned to Leo and tilted my head in silent question.
“Our activity next week,” he explained. “Irene wants indoor D&D, while Luke here wants another airsoft game.”
As I glanced back at them, Luke was already giving me his best puppy eyes.
“Hafsa! Pleaseee, let’s just play! Here, I’ll even give you my dessert—” He dramatically placed his cupcake in front of me, only for Irene to yank his shirt.
“I already said no. You shot too much last time, and Hafsa got hurt.” She yanked his ear this time, making him whine.
I happily ate my food, watching the chaos unfold, before looking at Leo with a furrow of my brows. He sighed.
“All right, break it up. We’ll vote on the hangout later. Can we just enjoy lunch right now?” He took the cupcake from Luke and, in return, placed a few cookies on my tray.
“Fine,” Irene huffed, pushing Luke back into his seat.
I happily continued my lunch, appreciating the brief silence—until a sudden high-pitched voice interrupted. “Hii Leo!”
Irene was already annoyed, but I shook my head at her, signaling [‘don’t start.’] Begrudgingly, she just kept munching on her food. The girl had two friends trailing behind her as she stopped at Leo’s side.
“Hm?” Leo barely looked up, still eating.
“There’s a party in one of the dorms tonight! Wanna come? You can be my plus-one!” She giggled.
I finished my warm soup and moved on to the cookies Leo had given me. They were good, but I was still craving something else. I glanced around, hoping someone had more sweets, but no luck.
“No thanks, I have work,” Leo replied flatly before standing up and walking off.
The girls immediately followed, practically begging him to come.
“Vultures, the lot of them,” Irene muttered.
[“He is popular. It’s no secret,”] I signed smoothly, and Luke just shrugged.
“Meh. He’s just got a lot of weird fangirls he hasn’t managed to shake off,” Luke scoffed. He then turned to Irene. “That girl? She’s been in love with him since junior high—imagine!”
“Delusional, for real.” Irene chuckled.
I simply shrugged, dusting the cookie crumbs from my hands, still feeling a little hungry for sweets.
[“…Why did he leave? He didn’t take his tray,”] I signed, looking at the half-eaten food next to me.
“Dunno. Probably getting something,” Luke said with a shrug.
“Probably running laps to make sure that vulture stays away from him,” Irene finished her tea and slammed the cup down.
“Oh, hun, she’s a weed at best. Don’t insult vultures like that,” Luke quipped, making the two of them laugh.
I was about to get up and find more dessert when a hand suddenly appeared next to me, offering more cookies.
I turned and found Leo bending down, holding them out.
“Sorry, I should’ve gotten more for you,” he said, his voice soft.
I locked eyes with the cookies, snatched them immediately, and started eating with zero hesitation. Satisfied, Leo sat back down, tidying up his tray—and mine.
“Where’s your weed of a girl?” Luke chuckled.
“And her ugly ducklings?” Irene added.
Leo just rolled his eyes. “Brushed her off as usual. Besides, we’ve got better plans than drinking and partying or whatever that is.” He waved it off, as he always did.
To be fair, I never stopped them from partying or drinking. They have their fun, and I have mine. But lately, Leo had been turning down every party invitation, Irene and Luke still went occasionally if they felt like it, I just didn’t understand why Leo was avoiding them so much now.
I turned to look at him, only to find he was already watching me. My heart skipped a beat in surprise, but it quickly settled when I realized it was just Leo.
"Good enough? We can get more,” he asked.
I nodded but signed back firmly, [“I can get it myself. No need to get me anything.”]
Leo scoffed. "Sure, sure—just don’t come to me for Grandma’s sweets then—"
I shot him a glare. [“Don’t. you dare.”]
He chuckled and ruffled my head. "Fine, fine—you can buy your own this time."
Satisfied, I stood up to gather our trays and return them.
As I walked away, I noticed something odd—Luke and Irene had gone completely quiet the moment Leo started talking to me. But I shrugged it off, deciding not to think too much about it.
When I reached the counter to return the trays, a strange feeling crept up my spine. I looked up for no apparent reason. The ceiling lights glowed as bright as usual. Nothing seemed out of place.
…Still, I could’ve sworn something was watching. Must’ve been my imagination then, as usual.
⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ .
When we were walking back home after class, Leo and Luke lagged behind while Irene and I chatted away as usual. It was odd—Luke usually butted in with some nonsense or joke, but not today. They both stayed quiet, a few steps behind us. Still, they always insisted on walking me home, no matter how many times I told them not to bother. They’ve always been like this.
“You sure you don't want to go out for dinner? We could find a good place, for sure!” Irene asked with her usual enthusiasm. She always tried to convince me to stay out a little longer.
I glanced up from my phone and shook my head. I didn’t really like being out past sunset.
[“Maybe next time, Irene,”] I signed, moving my hands gently so she wouldn’t get too disappointed.
“Oh, alright, alright,” she sighed dramatically—then perked up, “Oh! Hello, Miss Katya!”
We’d just reached my apartment, and the security guard at the front desk—Miss Katya—gave us a wave.
“Well, if it isn’t the three knights and their princess,” Miss Katya teased, a playful grin on her face.
“Oh, miss—Hafsa isn’t the princess!” Luke jumped in. “She’s the queen!”
“Ah, true!” Miss Katya laughed. “So, no hanging out tonight, Hafsa?”
[“It’s late, ma’am. I’d rather get some sleep,”] I signed without thinking. It took a second before I realized Miss Katya hadn’t quite picked up sign language yet.
“She said she’d rather get some sleep—we had a long day at campus, ma’am,” Leo spoke up smoothly as I walked toward the door. He reached ahead and opened it for me without a word.
“Well then, you kids better be good! See you tomorrow!” Miss Katya called after us as I stepped inside. I turned to wave goodbye at them. Leo caught my eye and smiled, and I smiled back before walking into the building.
I wondered what happened between Leo and Luke—but then again, I probably shouldn’t pry. They’d work it out… they always did.
Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling. That creeping sense like something was watching me. I glanced behind me again, but the street was empty. They were all gone.
“Hafsa?” Miss Katya’s voice pulled me out of it. I looked back at her.
I shook my head, as if to say it was nothing, and kept going.
“Have a good rest, Hafsa,” she said. I nodded once and climbed the stairs.
Maybe I was just tired. I was tired. I needed sleep.
But every time I walked lately, it felt like something had its eyes on me.
After a shower and prayer, I sat on my bed for a while, letting my mind drift. I should’ve been thinking about homework or studying. Instead, it circled back to Leo and Luke.
Another fight? Probably, but why? Irene wouldn’t tell me anything, and Luke and Leo just… kept it to themselves. I sighed and shook my head, pulling today’s notebook onto my lap as I sat at my desk. Focus. Study. I tapped my pen against the page.
Focus. But then—
Darkness.
It was like the room blinked out of existence, all at once. And then I heard it.
“You won’t harm me, would you?”
The voice was small, young. A kid.
And then came the reply.
“Turn it into a deal… and I won’t.”
Cold. A voice I almost recognized, but there was something sharp in it, something that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I looked. I didn’t mean to. But I looked.
There was a figure. Small. A child? And something looming over them.
Tall. Thin frame. A blur in the dark. I couldn’t make out his face. But I felt his eyes on me.
“Must it be a deal?” she protested.
I listened.
“Can’t you just… not do it?”
The figure sighed, his shoulders slumping. “I betrayed someone once,” he murmured,
“and I can do it again. So please, flower… a deal.” He held out his hand—pale, slim—as he knelt to the small figure.
She stared at it for a long moment, it took a while before she finally reached out, rising to her feet as she clasped it in hers.
“Repeat what I said before,” he whispered, his voice strained, “and nothing bad will happen.”
Her lips moved. Silent. I couldn’t hear the words.
But something about them felt wrong.
Off.
And yet, she shook his hand, sealing whatever it was that bound them.
“…A deal,” he murmured. His voice thick with regret.
Tears welled in her eyes—unbidden, unstoppable. And with them, something heavy pressed down on my chest. As if his sorrow now rested on me.
I gasped, jolting awake, almost falling off my chair.
The room was quiet. Still. I was still at my table, still in my seat. I looked down at the notebook—there were drops on the pages. Wet.
I reached up to touch my face. Tears.
Mine.
“…Who was that…?” I whispered to no one. The dream already fading, slipping away like mist in the morning, but the weight of it lingered. Haunting. And hollow.
I stood, moving to the bathroom to wash my face, prepare for bed. I must have tired myself out lately. That wasn’t good, maybe a real sleep will help.
I lay down slowly, closing my eyes. But even then…
I was still thinking of the dream.

By the window, she was unaware.
Something had been keeping an eye on her since last week. A small rat chamber clung to the roof, its beady lenses fixed on her window. Hanging there. Watching.
“So… she’s alive,” Mourgarth muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing as he watched her through the monitor.
“Which means her deal is still in play.” His gaze lingered on her peaceful, slumbering form. For a moment, his expression was unreadable. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he switched off the screen—plunging the room into darkness.
“She’s still so little,” he scoffed. “Honestly, what is her father feeding her?” Rolling his eyes, his tone held a faint, almost begrudging affection. His fingers tapped idly on the armrest of his chair, a steady, thoughtful rhythm.
“A deal is a deal… but hers is still binding.” A sly smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
Without looking, he gave the order. The rat chamber disengaged, skittering off toward Salamandra.
His mind was already racing ahead, plotting their next encounter, he glanced down at the delicate purple rose twirling between his fingers.
Admiring how it caught the dim light.
“I should make a garden,” he mused. The idea took root. “She liked those.” A wicked smile crept across his face. Slow. Quiet.
Satisfied.
“A garden… filled with flowers just for her.”

Back at the lunch table a few hours ago…
"Still at it, Leo?" Luke scoffed, leaning back in his chair. "Face it, flat face, you’ll never be together with her!"
Irene smacked the back of his head.
"Ow! What was that for?!" he whined, rubbing the sore spot.
“For mocking your good friend.” She sighed, "But seriously, Leo,” her voice turning softer than usual—a rare occurrence that sent a chill down Luke’s spine. “Hafsa has her own life. We know it. She knows it. Can’t you ever let her go?"
Leo remained indifferent, his gaze locked on Hafsa as she browsed the cafeteria, searching for something sweet.
Luke scoffed. "Is this why you’ve been avoiding parties? Skipping out on drinking and having fun?"
"I have work, Luke. You know I support myself." Leo’s tone was sharp.
"Yeah, yeah, while you could’ve worked for your dad—you chose a sandwich shop," Luke shook his head. "You even told Hafsa the owner was your dad—do you know how many stomach aches I got from laughing at that?"
"Wait—" Irene snapped her head toward Leo. "You actually did that? Why hide from her?"
When she first met Leo, he had been a proud man. But somewhere along the way, that changed.
Leo exhaled heavily. "I’ve known you two for a while. You understand my position. But Hafsa? She’d see me differently."
Irene crossed her arms. "Leo, she talks to everyone the same way. From janitors to esteemed professors—she’s indifferent to status."
"Yeah! Why would she care about having a rich friend? Heck, I’m rich!" Luke grinned, only for Irene to roll her eyes.
"Because I told her it was a joke."
"What?!" Luke stared at her, scandalized.
"I’m kidding," Irene chuckles. "But really, she doesn’t care, Leo." She met his eyes, unwavering. "You could be a prince of another country, and she would still treat you with the same kindness. You know her better than that by now."
Leo hummed in response, watching Hafsa smile as she chatted with a janitor. A quiet sigh left his lips, and he rested his face against his palm.
"I just wish there was a way for us to be together," he murmured.
"Make her conve—OW! Irene!!" Before Luke could finish, Irene yanked his ear again.
"Finish that sentence, and you’re sleeping outside tonight," she warned, her voice sharp.
Luke immediately shut his mouth, rubbing his ear as she let go.
Irene turned back to Leo, her expression unreadable. "Someday, maybe. But for now, it’s best if you keep your distance. She’s loyal to her faith. Don’t try to shake that for her."
"I know!" Leo snapped, his frustration spilling over as he turned to glare at Irene. But as soon as the words left him, his anger deflated. His voice dropped, quieter this time.
"I know..." He exhaled deeply, rubbing a hand down his face. "I just... I want her to live a better life, Irene."
"Then let life do it for her," Irene countered, her tone firm. "Even if it isn’t fair—"
"She lost her voice." leo counter,
Irene’s fingers stilled around luke’s hand, "That’s life, Leo," she said at last. "Nothing is fair."
Leo’s eye twitched, frustration simmering just beneath his skin. He looked away, jaw tight.
Irene sighed, leaning back in her chair. Sensing the moment's weight, Luke silently passed her a cup of coffee. She took it without a word and sipped. And for a while, none of them spoke.

Drawing requests from our "Heroes of Envell Day" live stream! The day being 23rd of February, aka the day the first episode came out. Please ignore how late we are posting this.
Mourgarth in a tractor (chat suggested he's chasing Larsen in it)
A rough sketch of our newest OC named Template
Mourgarth cosplaying Shapoklyak from old "Cheburashka and Gena" cartoons. Shapoklyak is a fashionable but mean and mischevious old lady, so the dress-up ended up being very funny 😆😆
Chupacabr stole a smartphone. He doesn't know what to do with it now.
Buckwheat in "Among Us". Just... Buckwheat in "Among Us".
Our other OC, Bayan Bayanych, aka our school music teacher reimagined as a "Heroes of Envell" character. On his blackboard it says: "How not to die. Step 1: diaphragm!!!" (because he always talked about the diaphragm).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
O: Yeah, I know I'm late. I knew I'd be late when I started such an ambitious drawing in the middle of January 😵 (and it should've included more characters back when I had the idea). I was slow at drawing it, trying to make it perfect, but perfect is the enemy of good, as they say. Now though, I'm very happy with the result! 😊

Q&A from streams (Part 2)
After all these years, I'm finally translating more from the livestream Q&As with Anton Lanshakov, the creator of the series. These are very interesting to read!
Again, these were asked and answered after season 1 episode 23 "Salamandra's Palace" was released, so please mind the spoilers!
[Part 1]
Tumblr media
Q: How is time going in the game? Can they [the protags] grow old there? A: Time in the game is going like in the real world.
Q: How did Art make that photo (the one that’s in his room) from the first episode when Kira made the “I’ll kill you” gesture at Ilya? Because one would need to sit at Ilya’s place and somehow put the phone there? A: But nothing stopped Art from asking Kira to repeat that gesture on camera.
Q: Can Helena change the death time instead of Mourgarth, since she’s the ruler of Envell now? A: She doesn’t know how.
Q: Is there a possibility to create Creep families in the game? o_o A: Of course. There absolutely must be a possibility to breed pets in a good RPG.
Q: Are there minigames in Envell? A: Yes. But they weren’t shown in the series yet.
Q: One of the developers (the sorcerer) was left chubby because that’s how Phil was at first intended to be? A: We wanted the developers to be different in appearance. And yes, the sorcerer was made chubby in honour of Phil’s first concepts.
Q: What is that fisherman doing everywhere?! Is he watching them [the protags] and Art’s dad?! Is he from FBI? Tell us, is he the main villain of season 2, huh?! A: Dang it. You’re right. I didn’t know it was that obvious. We’ll have to rewrite the second season. Now this guy just happens to be close by because we didn’t want to bring in too many new characters.
Q: Are there any rules for all characters (not players) that absolutely can’t be broken? A: Not for everyone, no, but for some, like Buckwheat, there are. The more influence a character has on the game, the stricter the limitations.
Q: What was that moment with Leonardo DiCaprio?! A: I am completely reliant on your imagination and your knowledge of DiCaprio’s filmography.
Q: What did Salamandra want to do to them [the protagonists] in episode 22 if she didn’t wish them any harm but still crawled to them as if she wanted to slice them up for shawarma? A: She wanted to disarm them. But when you’re a giant lizard, any move you make looks like an attempt to slice you up for shawarma.
Q: Can the main characters change their class? Who will get a level-up if, for example, Kira takes Art’s sword and kills a couple of monsters with it? A: Art’s sword and equipment will get the level-up. So in some way, you can’t change the class.
Q: Are there any other languages in the game? If there are, how can they be adjusted? A: For now, there's only one language. Everything for the comfort of the players. The languages can be adjusted.
Q: Can just about anyone really become the ruler of Envell, even Creep? A: The ruler of Envell is not a game-plot-relevant position. The Ruler is someone who conquered all the lands in the game and holds power over them. In specific circumstances, any character in the game can become the ruler. Even Creep. Even the house monster from episode 5. I would've liked to see this specific circumstance myself.
Q: Does the equipment in the game correspond to the colour of its class (like how the sorcerer is blue, knight is red, etc.), or does it depend on the clothes they were wearing when entering the game? Like, if you go in wearing green but choose a rogue, will the equipment be green or purple? A: The colour is chosen by the players, and it's picked based on their appearance. So yes, it depends on the clothes or, when it's difficult to pick the colour, the game chooses it randomly. Then the game remembers that colour and uses it to colour the character's equipment. Take note of teacher-Helena's outfit colours and how her bard outfit doesn't reflect them. It's because the game remembered that Helena preferred black in previous walkthroughs.
Q: The ornament on Salamander's body and on Helena's sweater (although they're the same character) was also on Creep's back. Does this symbol mean anything? A: Only an affiliation to the "rogue" class of monsters. Some (but definitely not all) monsters in the game belong to a specific class. It means that their abilities match those of the player classes.
