Greetings, Players! Today we're gonna talk about a rather popular (or not...?) fandom headcanon: Buckwheat is haptophobic.
Now, haptophobia is an intense fear of being touched. What supports this headcanon?
In the beginning of season 1, Buckwheat demonstrates clear touch aversion, often screaming out "Don't touch me!" or "Hands off!".
However, he also didn't seem to have too much problem with being held in S1E4 (Castle).
So is this headcanon exaggerating? Well, the strongest basis for it is actually a piece of Salamandra's backstory from S1E23 (Salamandra's Palace), where we find out how she kept Buckwheat from remembering who she is (and where the broken piece on the back of his head came from).
(Very spoilery image below, proceed at your own risk)
A sudden attack from behind would shake anyone's sense of personal safety, let alone an almost omnipresent and aware being like Buckwheat. He seems to know almost everything about the game, appears whenever he's called out of thin air, is constantly around in the background, watching the heroes, and yet someone managed to get close enough and attack him from behind. It is perhaps since then that the robot grew even more vary of touch, seeing everything as a potential threat. At least, if he didn't have the same feelings before.
Aside from this, I believe, there's only a couple of instances supporting this headcanon. His outburst at Art in S1E22 (The Ruins) could be read as another "don't touch me" scenario, since Art was aiming to punch the robot, but it was probably more rage than fear speaking in Buckwheat at the moment. And of course Buckwheat didn't like it when the heroes grabbed him to put his hand back onto him, as it would give them a chance to escape. Although... He did wriggle much more than when he was grabbed in "Castle", which may also indicate his grown discomfort.
