A piece of work
Have you ever been told
you’re a piece of work?
I have, so of course, I wonder
if I’m a gem in a mine, difficult to get to,
a cog on an endlessly rolling conveyor belt,
a painstaking placement of surgical instruments,
a backbreaking digging of a ditch,
a soul-crushing excel file,
an emotional journey into therapy,
a sculpture all curvy and light frozen in time,
an abstract painting with my face mangled like my thoughts,
a daydream interrupting life,
or some other work not yet defined?

Knee deep in sand,
It is endless.
Until a mirage?
No -
A village, with shops.
I'm lost, which way?
She laughs,
That's not allowed.
The sun sets on the desert
And I'm cold.
Left wandering forever.
Never closer.

The storms have damned me
To be endless wanderer
Even the soft breeze
Pushes me
Over
I walk gently
Always further
My heart beats steady
Becoming estranged
To bend
Who I am
I am tired
Yet I am
Child of the wind
And with chaos within
I arrive
