a short scene from the story i’m writing, featuring Terrence (in red) and Levi (in blue). at a winter cottage with friends, they get up early and decide to make breakfast... and ter spots an opportunity for mischief.
three pages is a lot for full colour and lighting.

Man, I went on kind of an emotional journey with this piece. I started out all excited with the sketch, got concerned I'd blow it on the lines, and basically had to fight my own attention span to get those done. Then I messed with the faces for longer than strictly necessary. Then I got all indecisive on the colours. Then I accidentally put a Hard Mix layer over them... and I really liked the look of it. I was still kind of unsure, but I kept with it, and I think it was a really good choice in the end. Actually, I think I just had indecision on almost every part of the process, which made it hard to keep going on something I was initially super excited to get done. It makes me not know if I just like it because I worked hard on it and I'm satisfied about finishing, or if I'll still like it tomorrow or a week from now. Basically, I can't just let myself be happy? And frankly that's kinda rude? me @ me just let yourself like things pls. I think it's partly because this pair of OCs means a great deal to me, so I want to do them justice, on top of working with a more complex pose than I'm used to (see: bodies interacting, torsos obscured).

for PFT's chaos week! magical girl/boy/enby is supposed to be a day 5 prompt, but i'm struggling a little bit to art this week and i wanted to do at least one. i typically draw stellar in neutral-to-masculine clothing, so they're pretty overdue for a dress. :>

ten years ago i drew six of my male ocs in different coloured shirts. now i am revisiting the concept, only much better drawn, and with more recent ocs! only one of the ocs is repeated across both versions, but he's had a decent design upgrade since then, too. from left to right: cirrus, sunstill, raikas, levi, ciran, and hexephre (my sona in male form). choosing who to put where was tough, not half because most of my ocs' theme colours are green or blue LOL. only three of them ended up with their theme colour.

this was inspired by an art-tember/tober prompt, but i actually forgot to use the prompt at all in it lmao. oh well, it still got me doing art, and that's what matters! i wrote about my art process using this piece as an example on my schlaugh.

and a sunny dragon ref to go with stel's! his was a lot easier to complete because his patterns are simpler and he doesn't have antlers. mostly the antlers thing.

almost a year after stellar's initial art, i finally have a ref sheet for their dragon form! my main motivation for doing this was to nail down their wing patterns - i've drawn them before, but only ever in images where they're angled. even referencing the few (read: 2-3) pieces i'd done previously, there were some differences i had to contend with. also important was defining their specific size. then i just added some detail shots, particularly for the 3/4 head view. do i find antlers difficult to draw? always. do i regret giving them antlers? nnnn...o, i think. anyway, happy near-birthday to stellar! initial sketches were drafted on august 15th, 2019, and the full image was finished and/or posted on the 22nd, so i don't know their exact birthday lol.

am i really going to draw eight really old characters of mine i rarely ever use? yeah, probably. anyway, here's zilu. fun fact: i never had a colour scheme for him, so i made it up on the spot. i really like it?

i did a bunch of stuff i'm happy with this year! mostly in the second half of the year, though that may have to be attributed to it being more recent, not to mention that most of the first half was taken up by the comic i finished in may. that said, only a quarter of this year in art is directly school work! i have been drawing for myself! wowie!!
my plan for next year is to do more comics! i want to do stuff between 10 and 50 pages to practice complete stories. it'll also be a good way to make myself draw more backgrounds and objects and poses in context, all of which are things i don't do enough.
the other thing i wanna do is combine my geometric stuff with my illustrations more! the skulls & geometry series was fun and i'm gonna do more of them for my senior show, but i also need to start thinking of ways to combine them more fully.

decided to do a redraw for this! it's always interesting to redo old work and feel your way through your old choices, what you still do in similar ways, etc.
