Is that really that far off from that divisive moment in Man of Steel? Not really. And while Superman doesn’t snap a villain’s neck in the new movie, and Gunn never puts Superman in a position to kill Lex Luthor or allow other people to be killed, it skirts the idea that maybe it could happen, someday, in a future movie or TV show. And consequently, there’s plenty of death to feed the bloodthirsty film-going audience, between the scenes of Superman eating cereal or saying “ah, jeez.”

Personally? No thanks. We all have our own view of Superman, who he is, and what he represents. For me, it is the fiction that he saves everyone, all the time."

Things I loved about James Gunn's Superman:

Superman. No notes.

Krypto. Want more.

Lois Lane. Want more.

Things I was meh about Superman:

I'm used to Mr. Terrific being a very serious character (think a Black version of Bruce Wayne), so a lot of the quipping and showboating really threw me off.

Lex could have used more likability/humanity, but I get where Gunn was coming from wanting a 1960s style Saturday-Morning Cartoon villain.

Shouldn't Guy Gardner be younger? Nothing against Nathan Fillion, but I'm used to Guy being a young firebrand instead of middle-aged.

Things I REALLY didn't like about Superman (spoilers):

Jor-El & Lara Lor-Van WOULD NEVER say that. Completely out of character. I need this to be fixed.

Superman WOULD NOT let Ultraman fall into that black hole. He would of saved him like he did Bizarro Superman or Conner (or any other clone of Superman Lex has made).

Hawkgirl WOULD NOT kill a political leader, even if that leader was Vladamir Netanyahu. That's just not what DC Superheros do.

Things that made me go "why?" in Superman:

Jimmy Olsen, sex magnet?

Supergirl cameo but only at the end of the movie?

Why is Eve Teschmacher a bimbo?
