One thing I love about this string of episodes is how they force the Doctor to confront the fact that their whole "I can get close to someone because they'll eventually die" is just nonsense. All relationships end sooner or later, everyone loses someone, Time Lords aren't anything special in that regard, and you shouldn't avoid being with someone you love just because you're afraid of losing them. Treasure all the time you have together, it's precious and shouldn't be wasted.
