Last week, I went on a public tour of Hartland landfill, which services the Greater Victoria area. I was surprised to learn that, despite extensive recycling programs and citywide compost pickup, Hartland still receives 480 tons of garbage every DAY. That’s 68+ truckloads. See where the tree line starts towards the top of the screen? That’s how high the trash will be piled up by 2048, when the landfill is projected to reach capacity. Talk about scary. Backpacking last weekend, Ozette to Rialto Beach. Trail was much rockier & more challenging than I had anticipated, and part of me said "Never again!" when we finally made it to the end. But now my blisters are fading and my muscles don't hurt as much and the pictures are so pretty...
