Summary: The confinement is over and Hecate is free to see world beyond Cackle’s Academy. With Pippa by her side, she’s ready for her first adventure.  

Notes: Oh, the difference being away all summer makes! My Library AU will in no way be done on time, but I decided to put the week I spent at Tales of the Cocktail to good use. Hopefully, Pippa and Hecate will enjoy their trip to The Big Easy as much as we did.

Once again, I owe Sparky my thanks for editing and helping me remember the details of our trip.  I promise I will use those women from Pat O’Brien’s piano bar in a fic at some point. Any errors are from me fussing with it after Sparky was through.

The title of this story comes from the Indigo Girls song ‘Get Out the Map.’

Prompt: “have you ever done this before?”

“Do I look alright, Pip?” Hecate met Pippa’s eyes in the mirror as she nervously smoothed the floral sundress over her hips.

“You look absolutely stunning, darling. I knew that poppy pattern would suit.” She crossed the hotel room, stilling Hecate’s hands by taking them in her own.

Seeing their joined hands warmed Pippa’s heart and set her magic fizzing through her veins. She couldn’t believe that they were here - it had only been two weeks since they’d finally, truly reconciled. Sure, things had thawed after the Spelling Bee, but they’d definitely still been at odds when the Council had asked her to oversee Cackle’s. And Hecate had been even more reserved since the Founding Stone incident. But when Pippa had heard about the latest disaster at Cackle’s, where once again Hecate had been at the center of the danger, Pippa couldn’t stand it any longer. She’d transferred straight to Hecate’s rooms, dumping herself - and the contents of her stomach - unceremoniously onto the rug at Hecate’s feet. They’d talked for hours that day, Pippa holding Hecate through tears as she recounted everything that had happened with Indigo Moon and her subsequent confinement. She’d gone back every day since then. Sometimes they’d talked about the past, other times they’d talked about nothing really at all. And once, for a few blushing, heady moments, they’d talked about the future. Their future.

Hicsqueakfest submission time! Okay, I’m sorry, I hate this drawing, but I have to post something because deadline. I take those things seriously. Well, not that seriously, seeing as I still have two more prompts I’m working on. But anyway. For the prompt “swimming in a moonlit pond/pool”, which somehow turned into swimming in a moonlit lake, because I’m dumb. It kind of looks like they’re in some Nordic country? My very tenous excuse is that Finland allegedly has one of the world’s best school systems, and they’re there on a teaching conference. And got distracted. A bit like me. I’m very distracted. Also, if you’re wondering about Hecate’s arms looking funny, it’s because I have hyperflexible elbows and don’t really know how to draw normal ones.

out of curiosity, not as criticism: why is it only one person per prompt? I haven't any experience with this sort of thing, so I'm probably asking a dumb question...

That’s a totally valid question, thank you for asking! I’ve always run prompt -style feats this way, for a couple reasons. One because I think it gives people a sense of ownership over their prompts - if I’m the only one writing for it/making art for it, I feel a responsibility to finish it for the person who promoted it (even if I don’t know who that is). It also allows someone their take on a prompt that they know won’t be duplicated, at least for this fest.

I think it’s also a good way to bring the community together, bc often people will say after a fic/artwork is done, “Hey that was my prompt and I love this!”

Honestly, it’s also habit too, this is the way I’ve personally run prompt fests in the past, and it usually turns out pretty good so I haven’t bothered to change it up. But if people are interested in more open fests, we could do that for the next go around!

Hey everyone! Here are the rules and guidelines for Hicsqueak Fest! It’s pretty simple, but please read the following carefully and let me know if you have any questions:

PROMPTING: 

Everyone (anon or not) is welcome to submit PROMPTS to @hicsqueakfest ask box. 

You may submit as many prompts as you like.

You may submit prompts for fic, art, vids, etc. Please specify which medium you’d like. Prompts submitted without stating so will be considered open for any medium.

Prompts are due JUNE 15th.

Prompts can be as specific or general as you’d like. Here are some examples: 

Fic: I’d love an AU fic where Hecate and Pippa are special agents like Mulder and Scully! 

Fic: Hecate-gen, exploring the aftermath of S3. 

Art: Hicsqueak cuddling! 

Art: Hicsqueak looking up at the stars, maybe from the tower at Pentangle’s? Holding hands or snuggling would be awesome! 

Fic: Hicsqueak from Pippa’s POV after the Broomstick display.

Prompts should be HICSQUEAK or Hecate-gen or Pippa-gen ONLY.

You can submit prompts for OT3s/etc so long as Hecate/Pippa are the primary focus. 

By gen-fic, I mean fic that focuses primarily on Hecate and/or Pippa, but isn’t shippy. 

After all the prompts are gathered and arranged, I’ll post the prompt list by June 17th, and from there you’ll be able to claim your prompt(s). 

CLAIMING: 

After the prompt list is posted, you’ll send an ask to @hicsqueakfest requesting UP TO 3 prompts at a time. 

It’s first come, first serve. 

As prompts are requested, I will cross them off the list and add your username next to them. I will reply to your message privately to let you know I’ve received it (in case tumblr decides to eat asks). For this reason, please request using a tumblr name, not anon. 

Please do not request more than 3 prompts at a time. After you finish your prompts, you’re welcome to come back for more. 

You may request any combination of art, vid, fic, etc. prompts. 

You’ll have the entirety of the fest to claim prompts, up until the AUGUST 1st due date! 

And totally optional, but if you want to submit a snippet or preview of your work on July 17th and after, you’re welcome to do so.

Excuse my ignorance, what is meant for "gen"? Thank you And sorry

Hi anon, no worries! “Gen” stands for “general” and just means you’re welcome to create Hecate-centric or Pippa-centric fic that doesn’t have a ship, or is lighter on the snippy side. I figured there’s kind of a lack of gen fic, especially for Pippa, so people are welcome to submit prompts that are less shippy but focus on either Hecate or Pippa (or both).
