The HARVESTER PHA 2359-14 This Palomino stallion has become so famous there is little left that can be added. His latest exploit was to be featured in the Technicolor motion picture THE PALOMINO. He is known to countless thousands of parade and horse show followers and he has sired numerous Palominos who are adding luster to his name by winning in horse shows all over America. The Harvester and two of his sons, Harvest Supreme and The Model Harvester, will hold court during 1950 at their new home in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

This is an original 1929 photo of Clyde Van Dusen who would be running in the Kentucky Derby. When jockey Linus “Pony” McAtee saw Clyde Van Dusen in the paddock at Churchill Downs, he said “I was kinda scared when I first saw Clyde because he is so little, but now I can say he is one of the finest and gamest horses of them all.” On the day of the 1929 Kentucky Derby, the rain started early in the morning. Just before post time, the sky opened up and a torrential downpour raked the track churning it into fetlock deep mud. Clyde Van Dusen, was shod with mud caulks to handle the sloppy surface. He went to the post alongside 20 other runners, which was down from the 26 horses originally entered in what would be the last edition of the Derby without a starting gate. McAtee got Clyde Van Dusen away from the start quickly and never looked back. While other horses struggled in the mud, McAtee stayed clean with just a single spot of mud on his face while talking to reporters after the contest.

Humane Society horses, 1907: “On account of the immense demand for heavy teaming, the officers of the Humane Societies are kept busy arresting inhumane drivers and giving relief to horses whose collars have chafed through the skin, and those improperly fed. The colt on the left can hardly stand, but was staggering under a big load. The skin is also worn off its neck by the collar." @humanesociety
