What a year to be a horse racing fan. Bulldog Hanover not only went out a winner, he went out with a new stakes record. He won 14 out of 16 races this year – including setting a new world record for a mile in 1:45 4/5.
Standardbreds are such neat horses.

a... neck tattoo???
I’m assuming this is about PonyBoy! He is an off the track/former race horse. He harness raced as a three and four year old.
Standardbreds (the breed used for harness racing) have historically had a white freezebrand on their upper right side of the neck to make them easily identifiable on the track, for sales, and after their race career is over. Thoroughbreds (not-harness racing - think Secretariat) used to all have lip tattoos but now have largely transitioned to microchip implantation, and Standardbreds are also transitioning to microchip use.
You can see PonyBoy’s brand on his upper neck in these pictures:
This brand allows anyone familiar with the breed to confirm that he’s him, and look up his pedigree 🥰 it would also make him identifiable as a Standardbred to anyone who knows what to look for, which is why the transition to microchips is concerning for many standardbred-specific rescue groups which now not only have to acquire chip readers but also risk injury moving around large sale pens full of horses to attempt to scan for a chip to ID a standardbred.

The big fella doesn't know it yet, but it's just about time to come off paddock vacation! He's been turned out since the end of August due to a severe tendon injury in his near foreleg. Said injury meant he was sacked from racing, and was very nearly put to sleep since he was dog-lame but he's pulled through very nicely with only some thickening around the fetlock.
Not lame in the paddock, and he's had the vet-recommended six (seven and a half by the time I'll start working with him. This week was going to be The Week but work has me exhausted) months off getting fat and he's happy hooning around like a loon with the girls.
All he's known is harness racing and being around people for work, so the first few weeks will just be convincing him that I don't want to Do Work, and then we'll start figuring out the whole Bending the Body and having a Lower Head Than Racing Wanted before I even think about a saddle.
I have hopes to do low level endurance with him - all depending on how his leg goes of course - and I really want to put his pacing on cue, but even without that as a nearly 17hh horse, his trot looks bloody comfortable and I can't wait to see if that's true. Just gonna need a stepladder to get on him.

I wish they had posted her conformation shot from the other side because she has a big ole belly spot. You don’t often see pinto Standardbreds here in the US, they are a little more common in Australia.
Viktoria Blue Chip (Courtly Choice x Lilly Sweet Sue)
I can’t find a picture of Lilly Sweet Sue, but her sire, Sweet Lou does show some signs of possibly being where the color is coming from:
It’s definitely not from Courtly Choice, unless he’s hiding it really, really well:
My bet is on the dam line.
