On this day in 1982, the album “Thriller,” by Michael Jackson, was released. The album spent 190 consecutive weeks on the UK album chart and sold over 66 million copies, making it the biggest selling pop album of all time. There were seven singles released from the album, one being “Beat It.” The single featured guitarists Eddie Van Halen, which he recorded the track for free.

On this day in 1943, drummer, singer, songwriter and co-founder of the Steve Miller Band, Tim Davis, was born. He was a part of the band when they released their Number 1 singles, “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” and “Abracadabra.” Davis played with the band for their first five albums and ended up leaving shortly after to work with other artists.

On this Thanksgiving day in 1974, John Lennon performed on stage for the last time. He joined the stage at Madison Square Gardens with Elton John. Lennon performed three songs that night: “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night,” “I Saw Her Standing There,” and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” John admitted that he was intimidated by Lennon when they first started working together, but they ended up forming a once in a lifetime bond.

On this day in 1942, one of the most influential and creative musicians was born. Jimi Hendrix, guitarist, singer and songwriter was most known for his innovative use of the electric guitar by combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion. His performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival is one of his most memorable. Hendrix also owned his own recording studio called “Electric Lady.” He died on September 18th, 1970 from drug-related complications.

On this day in 1958, Johnny Cash appeared for the first time on the U.S. country chart with his hit song, “Cry! Cry! Cry!” He wrote the song after serving in the United States Air Force. The Man In Black was just starting his overwhelming presence on the charts as his next seven singles all appeared on the country top 10 chart. “I Walk the Line” and “There You Go,” both reached Number 1.

On this day in 2010, an imposter claimed they were a back-up singer for Bob Dylan to order more than $3,900 worth of pizza at an Antonio’s restaurant. The imposter was wearing a fake Bob Dylan concert pass, and told the staff that the pizzas were for Dylan who had just performed at a concert in Amherst, Massachusetts. The staff worked until 5:30 a.m. to get the pizzas done, but the imposter never came back to collect them.

On this day in 1984, Tommy Lee, drummer for Mötley Crüe, married his nude model girlfriend, Elaine Margret Starchuk after dating her for two years. This was Lee’s first marriage which only lasted a short month. Starchuk also had relations with other members of Mötley Crüe, including Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil.

The song was written by Freddie Mercury for the band's album, “A Night at the Opera.”

On this day in 1994, Pearl Jam released “Vitalogy,” their third studio album. The album was released on vinyl, which became the first vinyl to make it on the U.S. charts after the popularity of the compact disc format. Two weeks after the vinyl release, the band released other formats of the album. The CD of the album became the second-fastest-selling CD in history.

On this day in 2007, The Red Hot Chili Peppers filed a lawsuit against the Showtime Network for the name of its TV show, "Californication." The band stated that the title was “immediately associated in the mind of its consumer” with their 1999 studio album and single, “Californication.” The band's singer, Anthony Kiedis said, “For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right.”

On this day in 1946, guitarist and co-founder of The Allman Brothers Bands, Duane Allman was born. He started playing the guitar at the age of 14 and convinced his brothers to create a band. He was a part of the group when they released their single, “Ramblin Man,” that hit Number 12 on the U.S. singles chart in 1972. Allman died when he was hit by a flatbed truck while driving his motorcycle on October 29, 1971.

On this day in 1988, Bon Jovi began their two week streak at Number 1 on the U.S. singles chart with their song, “Bad Medicine.” This became the band’s third U.S. Number 1 and eventually rose to Number 17 in the UK. The song followed the theme of “love is a drug,” and was inspired by Brad Harrison, a former photographer and creative director at the Manitoba Television Network.

On this day in 1966, The Beach Boys hit Number 1 on the UK singles chart with “Good Vibrations.” The song was inspired by a conversation Brain Wilson had with his mother. She told Wilson that dogs have the ability to pick up the “vibrations” people put off, and if someone has “bad vibrations” then a dog will usually bark.

On this day in 1968, The Jimi Hendrix Experience reached Number 1 on the U.S. album charts with their final studio album, “Electric Ladyland.” Hendrix told reporters that he was embarrassed by the cover of the album, which portrayed naked women on the front. The album was banned by many record dealers as it was viewed as pornographic, but other dealers sold it with the cover turned inside out.

On this day in 1966, The Doors signed a deal with Elektra Records to produce and release seven albums. The band then recorded their first single, “Break On Through,” after changing the lyrics. In order for their new song to be played on the radio, the band changed the original lyrics of “She gets high/she gets high/she gets high,” to “She gets/she gets/she gets.”

On this day in 1996, Michael Jackson married his wife of three years, Debbie Rowe. The two of them met in the mid-1980s, when Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo. Rowe was working as an assistant for Jackson’s dermatologist at the time. When the couple divorced in 1999, Jackson gained full custody of their children, and Rowe received an $8 million settlement.
