Hojo Appreciation Week
46 posts
Takes place 6th - 12th May. The gist of it is basically “you can do whatever you want whenever you want in the general vicinity of these seven days and as long as it has anything at all to do with Hojo we’ll reblog it". There. That’s it. Now run free and do your thing, and most importantly have fun!

From the Personal Journals of Professor Hojo
@hojoweek Days 3, 4 and 5 all (sort of) in one log. Under a cut for length, no major warnings apply. It also occurs to me that I am posting this on mother’s day, what more perfect day to write about baby!Sephiroth.
The assistants cannot stop making a deal of the experiment. It’s a four month old infant, what is there to make a deal of? It barely shows any signs of cognitive awareness, much less a sense of self, or anything worth making a fuss over. And yet they want to “hold the baby” “what’s his name?” “who’s a good little lab assistant?” “helping your daddy at work are you?” The last one is the most inane. He is my work, and he is no help at all about it. He was supposed to give us insight to an ancient race, into the birth of the planet itself.

@hojoweek I hope biological/scientific horror is proper appreciation of Hojo. I’ve always liked him as a horror person, a lot of what he does is quite spooky, and I live for that sort of thing.
Under a read more, warning for death and human experimentation.

On the wings of great change and remaking, allow us to re-introduce the one and only Director of Research: Professor Hojo! If you believe you've seen another Director of Research, please report to Lab A for a personal interview with Professor Hojo himself (lucky you!)
Hojo Appreciation Week will take place May 6th - 12th!
As always, the prompts are yours to play around and get creative with in whatever way you see fit: fic, art, gifs, memes, playlists, headcanons, experiments (we will not be held responsible for any injury, death, or legal repercussions). Punctuality is not the focus here, so late (or early) contributions are always welcome!
Ensure that the tag #hojoweek is within the first FIVE tags of the post so others can find you, and tag with the appropriate content and trigger warnings. You wouldn't want to startle the poor lab techs, would you?
06.05. || Day 1: Specimen
07.05. || Day 2: Director
08.05. || Day 3: Recording / logs
09.05. || Day 4: Double Down / Change of Heart
10.05. || Day 5: Perfection
11.05. || Day 6: Remake
12.05. || Day 7: Free Day
Any and all hate directed towards characters, pairings, or those that are participating in the week will not be tolerated, and excluded from the event. Reposts of other peoples' work will likewise not be included.

Note
I stumbled upon your blog and am a bit curious about the amount of hate/negative asks that you have received so far just by being a hojo blog. Not that I am one, mind me not. And no need to mention the exact amount, I imagine that would be a hassle. However, I would deeply appreciate a response. Take your time, if you're willing to reply. Thank you for giving your time reading this. 👐🙌👏
The exact amount of hate that I have received so far is one (1), a comment on the prompts post from last year (and even that was less directed at me/the blog, and more at Hojo himself). Since the rules explicitly state that hate towards characters, participants or their contributions will not be tolerated, it was dealt with rather quickly :)

Hojo Week, Mark 2
(And this time, I’m doing it) The masterpost is here, these will be a mix of headcanon and possibly some AUs from fics I’ve written.
May 06 II Day 1: Family - MoS ficlet
May 07 II Day 2: Research
May 08 II Day 3: Slice of Life - you are here
May 09 II Day 4: Pride / Ego
May 10 II Day 5: Weapons
May 11 II Day 6: Memory
May 12 II Day 7: Free day
Day 3 - SLICE OF LIFE
The VR Room was not an invention of Hojo’s. That had come out of the Technology and Innovation subdepartment overseen by Tuesti. That said, he had taken the time to learn to do enough design work that his simulations were widely used across the SOLDIER training program, at least from the Seconds upward.
It was a diverting little side hobby, something to lose himself in when he’d had it up to here with administrative work (Gast had never had half this paperwork to do, but that was the price for a larger department) and wasn’t in a position to disappear into the labs for hands-on work. Really, at this point all he needed was his notebook to reference and he could write out the foundations of extensive programs in an afternoon.
He had the perfect idea for a little hidden present to leave in the programs - and if he did it right, it would, indeed, be programs. A little wandering chunk of data that could appear at random in any full-environment simulation signed into at a particular level.
Hojo smiled faintly, chuckling in genuine amusement, and started entering statistics he knew by heart. A perfect idea must have the perfect model. And there was, after all, only one model of perfection.
What he wouldn’t give to see their faces when it triggered… maybe he’d have to attach a camera-trigger command….

Hojo Week: Day 2, Research
Summary: Taken captive by the Engetsu, Hojo and Hollander must science to save their lives. Will Shinra arrived in time to save them, or will the green-eyed monster destroy them first?
Warning for racism and offensive language. The POV is Hollander’s. He is not what one would call a good man.
When his captors pulled the blindfold from Dr Nils Hollander’s head and he saw who was sharing his cell, the first words that burst from his lips were, “Shit! Not you too?” He’d thought his situation couldn’t get any worse.
Professor Simon Hojo didn’t look too happy about it either. Turning to their captors, he declared, “There’s been some mistake.”
Three of the Crescent Unit operatives were dressed in battle gear: lamellar breastplates; baggy trousers; shoes that looked like slippers, but with curly, steel-tipped toes.  The fourth wore a poor facsimile of a blue D.A.R. suit. This faux-Turk had already, and with some vigour, rubbed every trace of the sooty dot from his forehead. All four Engetsu were looking as unhappy as their two prisoners, but while Hollander’s unhappiness was mostly fear, and Hojo’s unhappiness was a kind of weary resignation to the ubiquitous inevitability of finding himself surrounded by fools, the unhappiness of the Wuteng was the sort a man might feel when ordered by his superiors to carefully handle and absolutely not damage something that would be, to any normal human, repugnant: a nest of maggots, say, or a dead sahagin.
“No mistake,” said the one in the blue suit. “Our orders were kidnap Shinra’s two top scientists.”
“Pfft,” sniffed Hojo. “When a field holds only two trees, and one of them is an oak and the second is a puny sapling struggling to grow in the first one’s shade, do you call them both the two top trees?”
“Koitsu wa nan to itta no,” said one of the warriors.
“Ahondara yo,” snapped the fake Turk.
“What are they saying?” asked Hollander.
A certain look, not unfamiliar to Hollander, came into Hojo’s eyes. Anyone who worked with the Professor for any length of time came to think of that look as his “smile”, although it really wasn’t. He said, “They’re wondering whether it would be less trouble to kill you now or to take you back where they found you.”
Hollander’s pulse began to gallop in a most distracting manner. His bladder, all of a sudden, felt treacherously full to bursting. “I don’t want to die,” he exclaimed. “Simon, please, tell them. Tell them I’ll do anything. Whatever they want.”

Hojo Week, Mark 2
(And this time, I’m doing it) The masterpost is here, these will be a mix of headcanon and possibly some AUs from fics I’ve written.
May 06 II Day 1: Family - MoS ficlet
May 07 II Day 2: Research - you are here
May 08 II Day 3: Slice of Life
May 09 II Day 4: Pride / Ego
May 10 II Day 5: Weapons
May 11 II Day 6: Memory
May 12 II Day 7: Free day
Day 2 - RESEARCH
There was a time and place for honesty.
In one’s private research, honesty was an absolute necessity. You couldn’t afford to work off anything but the raw truth; that’s how mistakes were made, and mistakes would not be made on a project as significant as the Jenova Project.
When speaking to other project members, it was also wise to at least make an attempt to be honest. To a point. But both Gast and Hollander found Hojo’s suspicions to be unlikely at best, dismissing him without even looking into his notes. And well… on further thought, it occurred to him that - should the President get wind of Hojo’s beliefs - Project J may well have been shut down. Which would be a crime against science.
So honesty fell by the wayside, for the sake of advancement.
However, Hojo continued his studies, intensified his studies, and became increasingly convinced as the research piled up. The Cetra were the forebearers of humanity; while they would, of course, have differences, they should have been recognizably related.
Jenova was like nothing he’d ever seen. He had no idea what Jenova was, but it wasn’t a Cetra. It was a stretch, perhaps, to claim it was alien, but there was no denying he couldn’t find any relation between it and any other creature on the Planet.
Research had to be correct. You couldn’t run a project on the premise of a lie. Oh, you could tell your backers anything you pleased, but when it came down to you and your specimens you had to know what you were doing.
If only to himself, Hojo admitted Jenova was one hell of a variable. There was a lack of understanding that he would have preferred before getting all the way to human experimentation. But he’d been as thorough as he could be. He didn’t know what Jenova was, but he had a firm grasp on what to expect as an outcome. He’d tested extensively.
He may not have known what Jenova was, but he was certain that the end result would be nothing less than magnificent. Humanity would never be the same.

(Sidenote, this is in the universe of my the canon-divergent fic Men of Steel. You don’t have to read it to understand, just know that Vincent is alive and coparenting Sephiroth with Hojo and Lucrecia, who are in a reasonably stable if not always traditional marriage. XD)
Day 1 - FAMILY
“Do you know where our son is?” Lucrecia asked, in a tone that suggested she most certainly knew where their son was.
Hojo sighed. “With Vincent, last I checked.”
“He is at the gun range.”
“Ah.”
Lucrecia came to stand in front of the table, arms crossed. “‘Ah.’ That’s it? Vincent is teaching our eight year old to shoot and all you have to say is ‘ah’?”
“Lu, he’s been handling staves and bokken since he was three,” Hojo said, with what he felt was admirable patience. “I’m surprised Vincent held out this long.”
“Those are wooden weapons, without any sharp edges. At the worst, he’s going to bruise,” she said.
“Did you ask what sort of bullets he’s using?” Hojo asked, arching a brow as she hesitated. “No? Perhaps you should. He cares for the child, Lu, he’s not going to put him in unnecessary danger.”
“But -”
“Lucrecia, as much as it pains me to say this, he is one of the most competent and skilled members of a very elite force,” Hojo said mildly. “He knows what he’s doing. And if anything, he’s been very restrained.”
“I fail to see how that’s restrained.”
Hojo arched a brow. “His mother is a Miyamura.” No recognition, of course. He sighed. “They are known, of course, for being a matrilineal line of priestesses. That said, anyone in the family who is not a priestess almost universally becomes ninja. Grimoire may have taken him for an eastern education and upbringing, but I would not have been surprised in the slightest if he’d been inclined to have him handling small blades already. Really, he’s been quite -”
The thunder of little footsteps came rushing down the hall to the lab.
“No running,” Lucrecia and Hojo echoed each other.
“Mother! Father! Look what Dad got me!” Sephiroth came bolting in with a gun that was both immediately what one would expect from a child and nothing one would expect from a Turk.
Hojo arched a brow with a small, smug smile. “A water gun, isn’t it?”
“With dye and a laser scope so I can work on my aim,” Sephiroth said proudly. “He says I’m really good.”
“Mmhm.” Hojo glanced at Lucrecia, who looked a little taken aback. Well, good. He preferred not to be Valentine’s advocate. It was… awkward. “I’m sure you are. Your coordination is excellent.”
Sephiroth beamed with pride at the praise. “I can show you later! Dad said we had to break to dig you guys out for lunch.”
“…is it lunch already?” Lucrecia blinked, looking around for a clock. “…oh.”
“Yep! You have to come, there’s food already out in the lounge,” he said.
“I suppose we will,” she said. “Jirou -”
“Yes, dear.” He put a mark in the book he’d been reading, and slid off his stool. Heaven forbid he missed a meal with the family.

Just like last year, the prompts are yours to play around and get creative with in whatever way you see fit - fic, art, gifs, memes, playlists, headcanons, and so forth. Punctuality is not the focus here, so late (or early) contributions are more than welcome!.
Just make sure to have the tag #hojoweek within the first FIVE tags of the post so others can find you, and tag with the appropriate content and trigger warnings.
Please note that due to Certain Issues this platform has had in the last few months - the broken tagging system, among other things - if your contribution is not reblogged within ~24 hours of uploading, it may not have shown up in the tags. In that case, please send us a message and a link so we don't inadvertently gloss over anyone!

07.05. II Day 2: Research
08.05. II Day 3: Slice of Life
09.05. II Day 4: Pride / Ego

Hojo Week: Day 7
Why He is the Best Villain This man gives zero fucks about anything as long as he can benefit from it. He isn’t a well liked character. He may receive a lot of hate, but you know what? Being hated is one of the reasons he makes such a great villain. It’s believable, its emotions that are getting under your skin, disturbing you and causing such an intense reaction. I can’t say that many villains are able to do that.
Some villains are extremely liked but then they aren’t doing their job of being one well. To be liked they must have some point of vulnerability or connection, Hojo has none of these things.
He is pretty much the mastermind of Final Fantasy 7 and without him we wouldn’t have the game that we all love so much. Everything can literally be traced back to him in some way, shape, or form. He is responsible for helping find Jenova and corrupting the Jenova project. He created Sephiroth, he experimented on Cloud and gave us the broken main character. He completely destroyed Vincent’s life and Lucrecia’s. It is pretty devastating that he didn’t let her see her own child.
He has absolutely zero remorse for his actions. He’ll do whatever it takes to proceed with his own experiments and theories. Even if its nearly destroying the world. He can probably be held responsible for Jenova breaking free as well, for even holding her there in the first place. He may not be the strongest out there but he is intelligent to a lethal degree and that is how he got so far. He truly knows how to play the game to his own advantages.
The fact that he is so good at being so evil makes him one of the greatest villains.
This article is also worth checking out: https://cultureofgaming.com/why-professor-hojo-is-the-best-final-fantasy-villain-ever/ Thank you all for this awesome week!  Even if you don’t like him we can at least all appreciate him for being the reason behind FFVII and half the things that are all loved in that game.

Hojo Appreciation Week - Day 7: Free Day - Experimental Bisexual
Free Day = Crack Day! Aka I wanted to make this thing a Hojo thing
Ko-Fi
Hojo blinked, focus breaking, to find Professor Gast standing in front of him, staring at him with narrowed eyes. He blinked, gaze flicking between the man in front of him and the papers on the desk.
He, didn’t know why Gast was there.
“Can I, help you?” The question sounded awkward to even his ears, he still wasn’t used to talking to people yet.
“There’s a rumour going around,” Gast started, knowing better than to beat around the bush with Hojo. “About you and Hollander. Seeing each other. Intimately.”

Hojo Appreciation Week - Day 6: Materia
Ko-Fi
Hojo keeps quiet when talk of Materia comes up, remains silent and removed as Hollander boasts about the strides his failure is making in the field. If it’s noticed it isn’t commented on.
If anyone notices how Sephiroth is particularly lacking in skills with Materia, then no one comments on it. Sephiroth is proficient in all other fields that it doesn’t matter if he isn’t that great when it comes to the use of magic, doesn’t matter at all.
Hollander’s failure is useless with anything but Materia, there’s no way he even comes close to matching Sephiroth. The mere suggestion of it is laughable.
Even if he bests Sephiroth in anything regarding magical aptitude and abilities.
