Idk all Iām saying is Kenny Ortega didnāt work that hard to hide a deeply developed and complicated yet prominent gay subtext between Davey and Jack in newsies (1992) just for yāall to ship j*ckcrutchy.Ā

THIS IS SO SO REAL I was just rewatching the doctorās wife a few days ago and at the end of the episode heās on his swing and I was like āOMG ITS A WAY OF STIMMING!!ā
11 has plenty of different ways of stimming:
-the swing under the TARDIS
-he does this motion as if heās washing his hands when heās nervous
-heāll also straighten his bow tie
-he literally stims when River kisses him LIKE
I love seeing my own ways of stimming that he does too, itās often just my hands not being able to sit still (because neither can his!) and itās just another thing that I can go āHEāS SO ME FRā
One day I may make a longer post about this because I am SUCH an Autistic Doctor/Autistic 11th Doctor trutherā¦
The 11th DoctorāsĀ āmaintenance swingā was also a stim toy.
Working on the TARDIS was one way the Doctor kept his hands and mind busy. The TARDIS had a lot of redundant dangly things he could fiddle with to disguise his stimming. He was very much a sensory seeker. A lack of proprioception and pronounced dyspraxia forced him to use external means to keep track of his own body in space. Stimulating his vestibular sense was one way ofĀ āfeelingā himself. The swing was perfect, especially while traveling through the time vortex. He loved swings of any sort and couldnāt resist playing on one if he passed a playground.
The Doctor liked bright, colorful, noisy things with bells, whistles, movement and anything stimulating, so all the busy wiring, colorful lights and the motion of the swing gave him the stimulation he didnāt get in everyday situations. The more annoying something was, the more attractive he found it as a stim toy. He was more at ease in a Las Vegas casino than in a silent room. He absolutely needed some kind of background noise to be able to think straight. Luckily, the TARDIS provided a lot of sounds and would adjust them to be louder or quieter depending on his levels of agitation.
Thatās not to say he was incapable of being overstimulated from external sources. High pitched frequencies were exceedingly painful to him. He heard dog whistles easily and nobody wanted to be in the same room as him if there was a mosquito buzzing around becuase it made him grumpy.
Chronic understimulationĀ was more likely to cause the Doctor meltdowns than overstimulation. Internal understimulation was also a dangerous issue. The Doctor didnāt feel his bathroom signals at all, so he needed bathroom prompts to avoid potentially embarrassing situations. All of his incarnations dealt with painful kidney stones because he had crappy kidneysā and in this incarnation he only felt pain when actually passing the stones. (He had hundreds in this lifetime!) He was lucky he never had a stone too big to pass, or he wouldāve thought he simply didnāt have to pee and gone on about his business until he got sick.
External stimuli rarely put the Doctor into overload, however intense emotions were a different story. There was a reason he tried to experience them as simply as possible. Emotions created mixed internal stimuli that overwhelmed him until he didnāt know what to do with them. He liked sensory input from outsideā feeling it from inside was often confusing and scary. Even simple sensations such as hunger and thirst could overwhelm him if he didnāt eat or drink ASAP.Ā
Sometimes the Doctor sought out the maintenance swing to calm down when he was overstimulated by his emotions or understimulated by his environment. It was great for disguising his rocking back and forth because his movements looked like they were keeping the swing moving.Ā
