I wanna write a fic maybe expanding over ten chapters (to those waiting for the next gen AU fic I swear it’s coming isjdjdn) with a gift swap scenario but the switch leaves everyone with a power that’s very unconventional to their lives.

Because in the movie the reason many of the family members had quarrels with their gifts was due to the fact that Alma got to dictate how they’d be used. The gifts are meant to be extensions of the family, but I want to see a situation where the magic goes “you guys are straining again ✨family bonding time✨” and swaps their gifts.

My current idea is:

Julieta - Shapeshifting - I want to see an introvert like her get a gift that forces her to be in the spotlight. By getting Camilo’s gift she’s encouraged to be more risky and makes mistakes.

Pepa - Future sight - A little on the nose with this one but I think because of her anxiety, her main takeaway would be she can’t control the future and whatever happens happens.

Bruno - Enhanced Super Hearing - Somewhat same vain as Pepa where he learns he can’t control what people think and feel about him, as the enchanted hearing allows him to hear all the negative things people say about him.

Isabela - Animal Communication - had a debate with myself between giving Isa super strength or animal communication but I decided the ladder because she might have too much fun with super strength and I can’t have that. Working with animals might make her a little more emphatic and give her a better understanding towards nature.

Dolores - Super-Strength - Still a little in the edge with this one but perhaps time management? Dolores often uses her gift by just milling around where with Lusia’s gift she’d have to constantly be running and running.

Luisa - Healing with food - PATIENCE. Cooking is an extremely difficult and tedious process. And though Luisa is a hard worker, she only really knows how to run not walk. At first I’d feel she’d be very frustrated, moving too fast and trying to get a recipe done so she can move on, but eventually she learns to slow down and take it one step at a time.

Camilo -Weather Manipulation - He has to learn to be vulnerable with people. Camilo is absolutely that kind of person to bottle shit up but with a cloud over his head 24/7 that’s not an option anymore.

Antonio - Plant Manipulation - ehhh I’ll be honest I’m still figuring out what his lesson would be. Antonio is pretty baby so unlike the rest of his family the magic might not give him a super hard time with this one. Perhaps it’d be a case of learning control and also a chance for him to communicate with other walks of nature outside animals. Also it’d be hella funny if he’s making flower crowns and behind him Camilo is quite literally laying in a puddle of his own sorrow, Dolores broke down the guest room door, Luisa is covered in flour, Isabela is trying to get a cat off her head and Mirabel is screaming at the sky because now she has to babysit the other idiot grandkids that have dangerous gifts.

Mirabel — No gift — yeah she’s not getting dragged into this— or not getting dragged into this with a gift at least. She still has to help figure out how to switch things back and also acts as a second hand when the swappies begin floundering too much. So in short: she is still the therapist.

If anyone has ideas on how they could be swapped let me know. Again the swap is meant to really challenge the person by giving them a gift they wouldn’t do well with so it forces them to adapt.

My favorite HC has turned into Mirabel being like an INCH above Camilo and I mean barley an inch you’d have to look at their heights back to back to make sure she’s taller and yet Mirabel will still brag about how tall she is. (she is the second shortest person the family)

Next Gen it is! I’ll start writing something tonight. Although it’ll absolutely be a future kid , I’m unsure what kid I’ll focus on given most of my attention has been on the Camilo kids. I feel the others deserve some love.

anyway if you want to know how mentally ill I can get here is my Warrior Cats Encanto AU

WARRIORS AU

Some lore:

• These are not the main four clans based in London, rather four clans in South America (specifically Colombia). The name of the madrigals clan is ‘ Clan de la magia’ (Magicclan, any Spanish speakers feel free to correct me), and was founded upon a large group of loners migrating together to escape a massacre from humans on their species.

• Alma (still debating on a name for her) and her mate Pedro (his name would remain the same as he was a house cat) led the group, and an attempt to protect his family and the remaining loners sacrificed his life. In her grief, Clan Estelar (or they ASSUME) took pity on her and granted the loners a paradise where they’d be safe from humans and other cats. Over time the loners started getting along with each other, and with Alma as their leader they formed Clan de la magia.

• So there is no casita (or at least Casita isn’t a house) or candle in this AU. I do imagine their ‘moonstone’ is more of a giant red stone that emits heat and under the sun looks like a flickering flame. It would be in the middle of camp instead of in the mountains, but typically it’s for forbidden to interact with it unless you are leader, deputy, medicine cat, or just given permission.

• There ARE still gifts, but slightly toned down. I still haven’t figured out how all of them would translate, but like the movie because of their gifted status the Alma bloodline often keeps leadership roles within the clan.

• Clan Estelar (Starclan) is not very involved outside of giving the cats a home. It’s unknown where the gifts come from, but some cats believe it’s Clan Estelars doing, some believe it a different force. Not much is known about these cats of the past.

• There are other clans but they aren’t found until after the mountains around them collapse. Until then, the conflicts are just within Clan de la magia.

• When a Madrigal kits become an apprentice, they also receive some ability to aid and protect their clan. Like the movie, Mirabel did not get a gift and her apprenticeship was held back for awhile as the adults tried to figure out was happening. Eventually she was allowed to train, but it put her behind her ever so talented cousin and made her look slow and weak.

• Even though the mountains keep out humans they do not keep out other dangerous predators. The Encanto is not completely safe as there needs to be a reason they train cats into warriors in the first place.

• The camp of Clan de la magia is stationed on a flattened mountain. This climbing up and down the mountain makes cats of Clan de la magia very strong and have good stamina. They are also known to be great at climbing trees.

• There are a few loner groups around from cats who did not want to settle into clan life. Some loner groups are passive and have alliances with Clan de la magia, not wanting to try clan life but respecting their ways. Some loner groups are uninvolved completely, and others are extremely aggressive and resent clan life and all that Alma has been given. If you happen to run into one of these cats, you better pray you can fight or run like hell because they WILL attack any clan cat.

Here are some of the roles and SOME names. I’m still figuring out the naming scheme since the Spanish version of warriors (obviously) don’t really use the prefix and suffix naming scheme outside of leaders. If you have any name recommendations let me know. Also, the pelt colors and such are temporary until I find something I like.

ALMA — Leader

Strict, but loving. Alma is a good leader and has a strong sense of justice. She puts a lot of pressure on her clan, but they need that in order to keep functioning. Though most of that pressure falls on her family, ensuring they showcase what a true guerrero is. With her grandkits failed ceremony, she begins to worry about the clans safety.

PEPA — Deputy

Albeit emotional and a little dramatic Pepa is a great Deputy. Her sensitivity makes her highly aware of danger and her energy never fails to keep the clan on their feet. Though Pepa can’t help but question if she’s actually fit to be leader.

JULIETA- Medicine Cat (Of course)

Even though she is of the first medicine cats, she has to be the most talented. Her gift does aid her somewhat in healing but most of what she is does all due to the years she spent figuring out what herbs cure coughs and infections. Without her, the clan would cease to exist.

BRUNO — ???

Formerly the clan mediator, Bruno went missing after his nieces failed ceremony.

ISABELA — Med Cat App.

Due to her ability to grow plants, Isabela was forced to train under her mother. If she’s truly happy with her role is up for debate.

Dolores — Warrior

Like Isabela: it’s up for debate on how comfortable Dolores is with her role as a warrior. Though her super hearing makes Alma believe she is perfect where she is.

LUISA — Warrior

The strongest cat in the clan. If she were any older, she’d like would’ve taken Pepa’s place as deputy.

CAMILO — Apprentice

EXTREMELY talented and quick on his feet. Camilo is speeding through his training with flying colors. Although a good fighter he is best with hunting, blending into the bushes so his prey can’t see him. He’ll likely graduate early due to how well he is performing.

MARIPOSA (Mirabel) — Apprentice

The opposite of everything her cousin is. Mirabel is not untalented by any means, but her lack of gift causes cats to either overlook her or worry for her. She feels as if she never really grew out of being a kit, as if everyone is looking down on her even if they mean well. Mirabel trains harder than any apprentice, set on proving everyone wrong and becoming the best warrior she can be.

ANTONIO - Kit

Just a dude. Just a baby. Two apples tall. Because of Mirabel’s slightly extended stay in the nursery Antonio has a good relationship with her. He believes Mariposa is amazing and talented, and wants to be like her.

ISABELA

Lesbian. I’m sorry I just can’t see her being into guys it just doesn’t work in my brain.

Also trans of the gender (mtf)

Since she’s dropped her perfect persona, Isabela has been pulling pranks, ESPECIALLY on known little shit head Camilo. He doesn’t know whether to be proud or extremely annoyed.

Can’t cook or bake she’ll set the kitchen aflame

Always walks barefoot on the grass

Has names for most of her plants, especially the cacti

Doesn’t really involve herself in farmers work unless there is an emergency.

Developed a skill for gardening without her gift, and continues to do so even once she’s gotten it back. There’s something special about watching plants grow over time.

She still makes bouquets for events, but they’ve lost their conservative look for something more ‘Isabela’

Unlike most of her family she doesn’t mind bugs (unless they are in her room)

Very high pain tolerance. Likely due to smiling all day and cacti thorns.

She still likes pastel colors but they aren’t high on her list of favorite colors, so she opts for darker colors when choosing cloths.

She used to bite people as a kid

Has conflicting feelings on animals because on one hand yeah they are cute on the other she has to shoo them away from eating her plants every other week

Has a large man eating plant named ‘Rosita’

Sometimes she’ll take whatever is in Mirabel’s hand, put it on a high shelf she cannot reach, and walk away.

Can actually be scarier then Luisa believe it or not

SNORES SO LOUDLY the only person who can handle it is her gf

Not big on physical affection and often uses gift giving as her way of showing love (platonically and romantically)

DOLORES

Incredible musician who could basically play any instrument you hand her

She sings lullabies to the younger family members

Personally I imagine her as the only straight grandkid but obvi she is supportive of lgbtq+ since half her family is apart of it

She wouldn’t come out of her room when she first got her gift, but her parents and a very supportive Isabela eventually coaxed her out

She has headphones painted red and gold by Mirabel

As much as she loves Isabela and appreciates all of Luisa’s hardwork; out of her cousins her and Mira get along the best.

Speaking of that Isabela and Dolores’s relationship, much like Camilo and Mirabel’s, soured as the pressure to uphold the family name increased. Before the magic disappeared they basically ignored each other, but began to reconcile during the rebuild and became close again.

Her room is sound proof (I know people say otherwise idc she needs a BREAK) but during the night she’ll sometimes open her window since it’s much quieter

I do believe she has SOME control over her gift, and in order to hear very far she has to hold a hand against her ear. When she isn’t, things are amplified but not unbearable. She’s kinda just gotten used to it.

Dolores love language is, unsurprisingly, words of affirmation.

If she gets stressed and doesn’t have access to her headphones, she’ll listen for the nearest family members voice (Ex: her fathers laugh, her mothers ranting, Camilo’s jokes, Antonio communicating with his animals)

Gets in on Isabela’s pranks now and again. She is mostly polite but has a devious side, especially with her cousins and siblings.

LUISA

I still adhere to the concept Luisa has some sort of ‘calm’ room. Wether it be an amusement park or a sauna she deserves to have somewhere to destress

Has a pile of stuffed animals, each with different names

She actually does enjoy doing chores and being active, but struggles to find a stopping point and not overwork herself

She’s more then just brawn, and was always a sharp academic when she was in school

Women enjoyer women enjoyer

VERY physically affectionate she’s giving everyone hugs and crushing their bones

Her and Camilo get along very well after Casita’s rebuild. She likes his energy and ability to let loose, and Camilo respects all the work she does around the Encanto. They mesh well.

When she first got her gift she accidentally broke her dads hand

Her father used to teach her piano, though she sorta fell out of it the older she got. Since casita’s rebuild she’s picked it back up as a hobby.

A big animal person, second to Antonio. She likes patting the donkeys on the head if she gets the chance

Has a hard time sitting down to eat because she’s always getting ready to move

If you give her anything she’ll begin sobbing and thanking you (birthdays and Christmas are rough)

She puts the younger kids if air jail if she has to

She originally struggled to control her gift, and that made her scared to touch anyone in fear she’d hurt them. But Pepa helped Luisa find ways to control the strength as she had to learn with her weather

After she lost her gift she kept trying to move the church as a force of habit

Reads a lot of fantasy novels

Helps Antonio wrangle his animals

CAMILO

Gay and trans can’t change my mind

Despite always being hungry he cannot stomach fish. Some other seafoods are fine but the smell of fish makes him ill.

Won’t say this out loud: he is kinda legitimately afraid of Isabela ever since he’s become the target of her pranks. No one knows true fear until you realize you are caught in a Isabela prank.

Camilo’s love language is a lot of things, but quality time is high up on his list as he likes living in the moment.

Is a very good artist but gets embarrassed when people try to look at his work

Despite being a stick he is surprisingly strong.

Him and Mirabel used to be close but sort lost that connection the older they got, and even began to fight and butt heads. I like to think they do eventually become close, but it takes a lot of conversation and time.

This is depressing but when she didn’t get her gift she drew a door on her wall hoping the magic would make it real

Once no one would wake up so she poured water on Camilo’s head and he screamed so loud it woke everyone else up

Mirabel looks extremely innocent but will literally try to stab anyone who bothers her with her sewing needle

She used to write simple picture books for Antonio when they roomed together

She DEF got her own room during the rebuild. Like imagine saving the miracle and your family is just like “anyway go back to the baby room lol” they wouldn’t do that to her

Has zero rizz I’m sorry queen but like she’s a girl failure by heart

Is a bit of old woman and can’t stay up too late without getting tired but in turn wakes up extremely early.

Don’t have too much on him since he is still a baby but I have a few!

His favorite animal is the jaguar! Hence the plushie and his closeness to Parce

He likes matching animals to people, and even has a few animals named after his family.

Animals often tend to just kinda… follow him. If he goes for a walk he might came back with some new friends.

I do think he’s a vegetarian. Maybe not a vegan but eating meat is not easy for him.

He doesn’t always go to his parents if he has nightmares, and will rotate between Dolores, Mirabel, and Camilo.

NEXT GEN AU

Self-explanatory: A next generation AU set about two decades past the events of the film. At this point, the family has settled down. Mirabel is now the fearless matriarch of the family, as Alma wanted someone young to take her place. Isabela and Luisa have both moved out, the ladder starting a family with a woman she loves. Dolores and Camilo are both married to people they deeply love with kids, and Antonio is extremely desperate to leave the Encanto. A crack in mountain has been left open for two decades, and it’s driving him nuts with curiosity— he believes there’s more out there in the world for him then the Encanto, and wishes to study at a real school and learn more then what their outdated books tell them.

Behind the Magic

A very grandkid centric AU. The grandkids wake up separated from each other in a, vast magical land called “Planta”. They quickly discover that the continent is split between multiple countries which are all home to magic users like them. There is one issue: all the countries and segregated and by no means will make any kind of alliance. Some of the countries are at the very least peaceful, others are at war, and some have turned to myths and disappeared entirely. A prophet from the “Kingdom of The Future” (a faction of people with the same future seeing gift as Bruno) tells them that they must end the incoming war between the countries and bring the lost back in order to be whole again, only then they will be granted entry back into their world. The grandkids find themselves at a cross road when they begin siding with enemies and turning on each other, risking not just their way home but the place they’ve been sent to.

SEPARATED AU

Upon Casitas fall, all of the grandkids expect for Mirabel and Antonio split up and leave the Encanto. Isabela is now studying botany at university in a more populated part of Colombia. Dolores writes poems and dreams of a better life from a small village she found. Luisa has started a family and is now a mother told two kids, and Camilo’s face is now on nearly every bill board and in every record store. But when Alma suddenly falls extremely ill, Mirabel and Antonio set out to find their lost family and reunite before her death.

All my Camilo head canons in one post because I can’t keep track of them

• He is gay! At one point he questioned being bi but the older he got it became clear he was just into boys.

•His family has described him to have ‘cat-like’ tendencies such as sleeping on high places and being very reactive to being sprayed with water

•Loves very spicy foods. Isabela attempted to prank him by putting an extremely hot sauce in his dinner, but it backfired and he ate the whole thing. Ended up wanting more and was confused when the ‘kick’ was gone.

•Has zero game. Like none. Cannot get a date someone has to want to date him first.

•Although he lives up to his title as jerk cousin he is surprisingly sensitive and has good emotional intelligence. He knows when and when not to mess with someone based on their mood and this is likely due to spending time with his mother.

•Him and Mirabel fight a lot but have a close relationship, even if it dwindled pre-movie.

•If this were to take place in a modern AU the family would absolutely have him shift into a younger kid for discounts at restaurants. He gets extremely pissed and therefore doesn’t like eating out unless it’s his birthday and it’s guaranteed they won’t make him shift.

•Claustrophobic as all hell

•Specifically hates cruises in terms of vacations. Doesn’t like knowing he cannot leave the ship makes him feel trapped.

•At one point Antonio out grows him and he actually looks close to blowing up a building

•Does theater (obviously) and has scored a good part in nearly every show he has done he is an extremely talented actor and singer

•Is good with the arts in general. Great at writing, visual arts, dancing etc

•Not so great with school. Struggles to understand concepts.

•Thinks he is incredibly stupid and def suffers from imposter syndrome. He is naive sometimes, not clueless.

•if he ever begins crying in public he will randomly stand in a corner pretending he is admiring the paint on the wall

•ALWAYS warm. He loves winter months because he isn’t dying from the heat. During sleepovers with the grandkids he often gets shoved into the middle because dude is just radiating heat

•Tolerant to gore and horror but draws the line at extreme body horror

•Does not have a good reaction time he will always be the last to turn his head

•The towns number one baby sitter. He is very good with kids and a lot of the town kids adore him.

•Messes with Félix a lot but if anything goes wrong in his life ever he runs to him like a scared wet cat.

•Has Julieta’s HEART. He plays coy around her to get free food. However he does really love his aunt a lot and enjoys her company and loves helping her in the kitchen.

Headcanon that whenever Camilo gets sick, it goes to his throat. This hinders his ability to speak, which is ironic considering he never shuts up. Meaning the family can tease him (lovingly) over being unresponsive, and often goes something like:

Isabela: Hey Camilo! What’s up!

Camilo: :|

Isabela: Really? Yeah, that’s crazy. Any way, can I borrow your eye liner?

Camilo: >:|

Isabela: Don’t say anything if yes.

Ami and Ima are by @tboycamilo Ami (one in red dress) gift is cloning. Ima is her first clone that took a life of her own and hasn’t returned since! They are the daughters of Marco and Camilo!

Luciana is mine! Her gift is lights and it’s warmth! She is also the daughter of Marco and Camilo.
