Bernie stared a moment, deadpan, before continuing on like they hadn't said anything. "I...I see here you still haven't signed the consent form? We really do need to get you into theater as soon as possible..."

Bernie dipped her head in a nod with a small smirk. "Ship-shape. Glad to have you back though. Hope all that R&R prepared you for today." - Bernie sat at down, focus shifting to the computer as she logged in - "CQC is expected to descend upon AAU at 0800."

It was Bernie's voice which pulled her out of her revere. At least enough to walk a few steps inside and let her bag slide off her shoulder. Eyes darting about the frankly anxiety inducing level of chaos, it took a moment for Serena to register exactly what Bernie had said.

"Oh, yes. It was very nice. Very relaxing. And how have things been here?"

A brash laugh escaped her lips, half in release of nerves if she were honest.

Bernie looked down at her now empty hands and back up at Charlie with a furrowed brow. The confusion softened into a small appreciative smile at the compliment, face dropping and fringe falling right back over her eyes. Before replying, Bernie took a deep breath and pulled her face up with a confident smile set firmly in place. "I really don't see the need for all this. It's hardly going take me hours to get ready. At the very least, I could be helping them finish...setting up the venue..."

Instead they had cordoned her off in this room to go mad waiting for the damn thing to kick off. She wasn't getting cold feet. Far from it. She'd been waiting for so long - unsure if the day would ever realistically come - and, somehow, now that the moment was finally, actually, in reach...every second dragged on forever.

Her heartbeat pounded in her ears as she looked down at her phone once more, tapping to bring the black screen to life. Still hours to go before the photographer was scheduled to come collect her - already with Serena for the 'getting ready shots.' No new messages from Serena. It was the waiting, wasn't it? She almost regretted not having the chaos of planning and running a big convoluted event - almost. Still...at least it was quiet yet. Just Charlie and her. Dom and Cam had gone to fetch them all some breakfast; giving Bernie and Charlie a chance to get dressed. Bernie looked up from her phone at the unexpected touch. She gave a worried half smile. "Misbehaving again, is it?" Bernie had done her best to make her hair look presentable but really there was only so much one could do with it.

Closed Starter: The Cluttered Consultant

Bernie really had been making an effort since the last few times Elle issued complaint over Bernie's housekeeping skills…or lack thereof. Today's mess was limited to her own desk at least: a spread of folders under an empty take away container; a half finished pop in a paper cup sitting dangerously close to the keyboard. She had every intention of throwing out the container but then a nurse had popped in to say a patient had to go into theater unexpectedly and Bernie had hurried off. After things finished up in theater, there were rounds to make on the ward and, well, in all honesty, cleaning up the office had completely slipped her mind. By the time Bernie made it back to the office, she found Dr. Lipson already there.
