Anything good done by the government can always be done better by an organization predicated of freedom of association.
at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

Can we agree that it's okay to call them American Indians (Indians for short) and that "native American" is the actual offense term.

I think paying reparations for slavery is stupid. At any given time only 25% of the population owned slaves, not including the north, which largely didn't have slavery. The southern populationof the south that didn'town slaves were often opressed brutally opressed as well, not as badly as the blacks during slavery but almost as badly post slavery. A lot of "white" people already have African Americans in their lineage. A lot of "black" people already have WASPs (white Anglo-Saxon Protestants) in their lineage.
Nowadays, more than 90 percent of Americans' ancestry going back to the 1800s is from outside of the USA. This means they didn't participate in the southern slave economy, because you can't do slavery in the south if you don't live in the south.

Hey guys, this makes me sick to my stomach every time I look at it so I have decided not to repost that rant.
Guys I have a confession to make. I made a rant post about Karmelo Anthony, the kid who allegedly stabbed someone to death in self defense. The problemis that through the entire post I referred to him as Carmelo Hayes, the name of a professional WWE wrestler. I ended up deleting the post out of embarrassment but I decided to acknowledge the event here so that I can always stay connected to my mistakes. Anyway, I will be releasing the amended version as a reblog of this post.

I got curious and decided to look something up, quote;
"A press conference is a formal event where an individual or organization makes a public announcement or statement and answers questions from journalists. It's a way to communicate information to the media and, through them, to the public.
[...]
• Benefits:
Press conferences can provide a platform for organizations to control the narrative and directly address media inquiries, says Investopedia." End quote.
This is an excerpt from the Google ai overview after looking up "what is a press conference" (if you want me to do deeper research on future posts plese let me know but for now I am satisfied with this). The reason I chose to look this up is because I wanted to talk about something I thought was interesting, in a hopefully intelegent way. Trump's press secretary, Karoline Claire Leavitt, has started doing something interesting. She has begun taking fewer questions from people classified as legacy media and more questions from people classified as "new" media and the legacy media are not happy.
Many of these legacy media outlets are trying to spin this as a move by the trump administration to subvert the first ammendment by silencing the free press, but you can't silence the free press by refusing to take questions from them at a press conference. Other than the fact that it's much more high profile, a whitehouse press conference is no different from regular press conferences. If the press secretary fails to answer important questions in the press conference the press can engage in wild speculation about why the administration is seemingly ignoring a big issue. This is bad for Trump, but only if said concerns are actually considered to be important by thr broader public. It is impossible for the white house to defend itself against false or misleading aligations without addressing them and a press conference is an ideal place to address such controversy since it gives the administration a great degree of control over the narrative (see previous excerpt). As such this is not only an ineffective strategy to supposedly "silence a free press" but also, arguably, only harmful for Donald Trump's public image, but I say arguably because; (1) as I said it is only a problem if such concerns are widely considered to be legitimate and (2) I believe this may be a viable strategy to undermine Trump's opposition, not in an illegal or dissengenuise way, but simply by challamging their authority.
I believe that the press secretary (or even Trump himself.) Is making a bet that nobody important actually cares what the legacy media is saying. This is risky because if they're wrong Trump could be opening himself up to a runaway train of smear campaigns, but if they're correct, Trump will successfully undermine the authority of his most stonch opposition, the legacy media. And I think said legacy media is catching on to this because they're trying to make a big stink about it, with their usual disshonst framing techniques and misinformation. But as dishonestly as the legacy media is being right now to try and attack Trump they are right about one thing and that is that the "new" media, that the press secretary is choosing to take more questions from, is much less hostile to Trump. If these new media people can become semented as permanet fixtures in the white house press conference room, it will be very difficult for a future president -who is more favorable in the eyes of the legacy media and less favorablein the eyes of the new media- to remove them, without looking very silly at best, or very evil at worst.
This isn't a new thing, trump has always been incredibly cutthroat with people opposing him, even in the seat of the presidency. This is something that many, including myself, like about the big T but I don't intend to paint this as a good or bad thing, necessarily. I just wanted to point out a few things that I thought were interesting, although, I personally like the idea of the media landscape becoming more meritocratic, by giving a bigger voice to the less established figures (but I also personally liked the idea of DoGE when it was suggested, and we all know how that's working out). This has been the crusade that is hopefully gentlemanly, Posting conservative opinions on tumblr for shits and giggles.

God is dead and we have killed him and there will never be enough water to wash away the blood. So let us live riteaous lives, to whatever extent possible. Let us take whatever goodness our dead God has bequeathed unto us and do with it whatever good we can, even if for no other reason than to spite the devil himself. God did not create us to shy away from adversity, so to soldier on without him will surely be the greatest test he could bestow unto us.
