*sorry for the? confusion?? i got multiple asks about like "min is hotaru's actual mother confirmed????" she's not, she's just a very kind/motherly personality and feels guilty that she's scared of a kid who has accidentally called her "mom" before.*

This is Hotaru's Light, a webcomic/askblog produced by @my-aevolin. *OOC is signified with asterix around the text in regular posts.*

Hotaru is a human teenager that woke up with no memories in the spirit world, which is populated exclusively with the Fae, who were driven by the Topworld by humans in a war. They have fleeting memories of their past life when interacting with seemingly random things like the butterfly necklace they found when they first woke up.

Asks and questioners in universe are ghosts and spirits that flock around Hotaru to give them advice and interact with the people around them. The right questions can trigger old memories and drive the story in the right direction.

The main tag for the blog is #hotaru's light. I cherish fanart of Hotaru, which you can find under #hotaru's light fanart and #not canon , which also has extra art and posts of mine. The rest of the tags are character tags, which are simply everyone's name (#beatrice, #chima, etc.)

Story summary for those who don't want to go back through the whole blog will be below the cut. This will be edited as the story progresses, so if you're ever lost, you can get a quick recap. Bear in mind it won't go over a lot of the details or it'll get too long.

Hotaru woke up in the flower caves on the abandoned surface of the spirit world with no memories of who they were or how they got there. They were found by Beatrice, a cat fwami, who, after seeing ghosts defend them, brought them to the Skyworld (One of three floating cities in the spirit world's sky). There, Hotaru met Min, Beatrice's girlfriend, the dog fwami. The three decide to bring Hotaru to the Dreams, the rulers of the Skyworld, to explain the situation and ask for help. On the way, Hotaru meets a sky serpent named Suisei and remembers a girl that supposedly loves them, and hears about the Nightmares, a disease that was banished by the Dreams.

At the Dreamdome, the home of the Dreams, Hotaru is introduced to the rulers of Skyworld - Sol Regina, her husband Lux Regem, and their one child, Riziel Fildovtia.

*technically yeah OTL

to explain the sudden absence i'm neurodiverse and get bouts of inspiration and hyperfixate on things at different times! i haven't had much motivation to do art for hotaru's light recently which is why there's been no new updates

also i'm a chronic attention whore and people interacting with my content always makes me more excited to do more and when theres no engagement it demoralizes me </3 it's kinda a bad situation bc: without asks i don't feel motivated to update -> no updates means blog looks dead -> nobody sends asks to a dead blog -> cycle repeats

so YEAH i'm still alive and im rlly sorry for the hiatus i'm just so bad at managing steady routines and uploads n stuff ToT*
