Status update

So I was away for the past couple of month and now I’m back. Just thought I’d clear that up.

But really, November was kind of a really shit month that threw a bit of a wrench in my otherwise decent work schedule. First of all I needed to get eye surgery, on both eyes, so I wasn’t seeing anything for at least a week after that, let alone staring at a screen all day.

That might have been manageable on its own, but at the same time that was happening, I lost one of my closest friends, which ended up being much more difficult to recover from. By the end of November, I didn’t feel able to work on anything for a while.

However, my eyes have recovered now, and I spent the holiday break getting back to drawing. I was finally able to finish a full piece again this month, which I already posted, and I feel ready to get back into the swing of things again.

Byleth comes out for Smash Ultimate today!

I know some people were hoping for Dante from DMC (myself included), but when Byleth was announced and I saw the skins, and thought “Close enough”

Anyway, I’m excited to try Byleth out as soon as I get a chance to play again, but I’m especially excited to be finished this (that sword and armour took FOREVER)

Here is some relatively recent fan art from my Deviantart account. I took some liberty with the design here, but it’s supposed to be a standard wo-class carrier from Kantai Collection.

I’m posting more old work today because I’m still working on that one thing i wanted to finish for Wednesday. I actually finished the line drawing for it Thursday night, but then spent all of yesterday struggling to figure out how to render and add effect lines while staying consistent with the style I’m going for. I’ll admit it’s a real challenge for me, since I’m trying to apply multiple new things I’m not familiar with all at once, but i need to get through it if I want to improve

My power level still isn’t high enough to face the challenges ahead, but I’m hoping this training arc will help. Until I’m done, I hope y’all can enjoy this filler

 I came up with the idea for this after practicing gestures and thumbnail sketches from the MGR artbook. Because of that I tend to think of this character as thicc girl-Raiden, even though her design was kept a lot simpler than his for my sanity. Also, there’s that colour scheme again.

I didn’t finish anything new today, which means the thing I’m working on now ended up being too ambitious for me to finish in a day, again. Let’s hope I at least learn something from it along the way. We’ll see tomorrow how it goes, but for now I hope some older stuff from my DA account is enough.

Some more messing around with colour from yesterday. For this one I did all of the colouring using a gradient mask over top a very simple value painting I made. The second version has a colour adjustment mask applied too to make it lighter and give it sort of a photo finish.

Anyway, all I did today was study rendering and try to do some cool stylish practice painting with it, but I couldn’t come up with anything exciting for most of the day. I think I got something now, but if I finish it, it won’t be till tomorrow. Or maybe I’ll scrap it all by the end of the night and try something different tomorrow

So today I just took it easy and watched some Ctrl paint colour study videos during the day. Then I spent the rest of the evening playing around with colour and made a couple things out of it.

This is the first one. It started as just some abstract values, and then I just kept adding dodge layers...

Well it turned into some type of green crystal/ice planet with copper mountains and purple skies, I don’t know why but I can’t stop doing things with this colour palette, I put a light noise layer on too to make it look almost like actual paper

Took my giant evee out for a walk near some ice stones and this happened. I honestly should’ve known better smh.

Glaceon doesn’t really have poofy fur, so I decided to give it a bigger tail and head flaps (seriously what are those things? I always confuse them for the ears}. I tried to make them kinda like snowflakes, since the original design already reminds me of ice crystals.

Also, those little clouds are really fun to draw, I want to put them on everything now

So I’m posting this as a Tumblr exclusive variation of the last thing I made, and I plan to do little variations like this of future work; little bonuses for checking out all my accounts on various platforms.

This first, ultra-saturated, alternate version, is to commemorate the merging of this account and my DeviantArt account, which I revived last month.

This DA account was my first ever art account, so I guess there’s some symbolism there or something. Anyway, I’ve written too much again, but i got something else coming out real soon.

Woah, so I’m finally back on here!

After months of messing around with different work schedules, i think I finally found one I can manage long-term (fingers crossed).

I plan on posting every 1-2 days on average now. I’ll try to include new content in as many of those posts as I can, but I still have a bunch of older stuff I never got around to posting on here yet, so either way I’ll definitely have plenty of things to put up for a while.

Anyway, this is a quick sketch I did on the bus of a character from a story I’m currently working on. Yesterday i redid the lines and coloured it digitally, and today I’m uploading.

Now I got a lot more work to do for tomorrow, but I got a little extra to post later tonight

I was planning on doing more with this, but want to move on to something else, so I decided to just post it as is.

Since I didn’t post anything for last week, I decided to upload 2 things from this week instead.

I was gone most of this week so I didn’t get to work on anything big. Today I decided to go out a bit and do some quick scenery sketches. This is one I did digitally at home, based on a picture I took while outside. I also used a light textured background for this to get that sort-of traditional vellum look.

So I told myself I’d start uploading more often, and then didn’t. So far I’ve been mostly uploading finished fanart, usually requests for others, that were meant to show my best work, The problem is I don’t always work on that stuff, some days I’ll just work on fundamentals, or on animations which take a while to finish. I could just focus on fanart requests all the time, but then I wouldn’t have as much time for fundamentals, writing, animation, w/e.

This week I decided to just start uploading anything, regardless of whether I think it’s my absolute best or not. Forget quality, I’m all about quantity now! I plan on doing at least one (1) post a week until it becomes habitual, and then I’ll work towards posting every day or every other day.

Anyway, earlier this week I was going over some old perspective peractice, specifically building simple grids for drawing airplanes. Then, the end of the week rolled around and I hadn’t done anything worth posting yet, so I whipped up this little bird using those same perspective perinciples. I also ended up doing some bird studies as a result.

Also, I’ll be posting work from my very old and very first sketchbook on my instagram tonight or tomorrow morning. It’s not much, but I figured it would be nice to have everything I’ve done up till now uploaded somewhere.

Playing around with brushes and values in krita and came up with a composition I liked. I’m trying to draw this one strictly from imagination. Anyway, this is what i have from it so far.

Otherwise I’ve only been doing value studies this week and haven’t done anything really original, but I figured I’d upload something just to get into the habit of it.

So far it’s just a bunch of pictures taken of my current sketchbook. I would’ve posted some digital work on there too but it’s a pain in the ass to upload from desktop to IG. Oh well, I’ll post some older sketchbook work on there soon.

Well it’s been a long while since I posted anything on here. I’ve still been working on stuff but stopped doing requests for other people. Either way, I need to get back to posting things, so I’m starting with the first request I’ve done since the summer. Gonna try to post more regularly from now on. Also gonna link my new instagram and old deviantart accounts to this one, at some point.

Courtney from Paranorman as a pinup girl, for an anonymous request. Trying to get the look of that oldschool traditional rendering drove me nuts, but I did what I could.

I suppose it was meant as a July 4th request, but it’s too late for that. However, it’s just in time for Mongolia and Kiribati’s national holidays, so this one’s for you Mongolians and that one person in Kiribati who has wifi..
