What is this poll?

its a poll for judging the hottest fictional bear.

2. but isnt there already a tumblr bear poll?

yeah ^_^ but many of us, including fat people like me, feel that that poll wasn't honoring what the bear community represents

3. okay so what is a bear/what does the bear community represent?

a bear is a fat hairy gay man. a musclebear is a large and muscular hairy gay man. the bear community is a subculture within gay culture that celebrates these body types, particularly as they are not celebrated within mainstream culture.

4. ok so who can i submit?

fictional characters who fit either of the two above physical descriptions. canonical gayness not required. this is tumblr, we can use our imaginations. OH ALSO PLEASE SUBMIT CHARACTERS WHO ARE 18+. i wont include them if theyre not.

if your favourite character(s) is not a bear, but an otter (which is a hairy guy who is smaller/skinnier than a typical bear) you may submit them over at @hotterotterpoll. otters are super great and deserve representation, but as this poll was mostly made in response to exclusion of fat bodies from another tournament, i will not be accepting those who better fit the definition of otter here. i am, however, very glad to be associated with this bracket and i wish your otterly otter-able signifcant otters the best of luck :)

It was going to be the Hottest Otter poll but I can’t resist wordplay-

welcome to the Hotter Otter poll, the tournament to find the hottest otters!

- What is an otter?

And otter is a hairy gay man, with a leaner frame than the heftiest bears. Still, otters can be seen as a type of bear, there is great overlap in their communities, and most events for bears also host otters (and vice versa). Otters can be athletic, lean, chubby, or any combo - the important part is the hair!

- Why this poll?

I think otters are underrepresented very often, and I am here to uhm. appreciate them… respectfully… because hair is hot. Otters are hot.

There is also division in the greater bear community between fat bears and leaner more muscular bears, and while I think all these identities overlap, I also think otter as a concept can get lost in the shuffle. I want to hold it up proudly for pretty much every reason one can think!

I also want very fat characters to have a poll while, tbh, savoring every flavor of hairy gay man I can (incidentally if you have a fat bear to nominate stroll on over to @hottestbearpoll ).

- What are the qualifiers?

Your blorbo must be an otter (see above), fictional, and 18+! They do not have to be canonically gay, but…. Use your best judgement.
