HC + FLASH MASTER

As stated by Soi fon herself , when Yoruichi left her behind she grew bitter & angry , stating she desired to take every title Yoruichi once held with " [ her ] bare hands ! " . She eventually did so , achieving captaincy in the nibantai , commander-in-chief status in the onmitsukido , however it's made apparent by a demonstration of strength by Yoruichi that there's one title she still hasn't taken , flash master . Given that she trained to master shunko & to perfect her shikai , it's reasonable to say that she also trained her body to be capable of the same speeds Yoruichis had been. Despite the century gap between Soi fon's training & Yoruich being idle , her speed still wasn't up to par with her former mentors but that doesn't mean her efforts were fruitless. By aspiring to surpass Yoruichi's flash step , essentially she's become the second fastest member of the gotei 13 & by the blood war i'd be willing to say that she's nearly out flashed Yoruichi herself .

HC + CAPTAIN CONTROVERSY

The entire process of Soi fon's ascention to captaincy is omitted from the manga , given the lack of attention it was given it's fairly easy to assume she just " trained hard until she was accepted " but giving it some thought i think it caused a little stir politically. Now i try to give Soi fon's clan some developement , i see it as an important piece of her past that influenced her present so this will center around her the social status of her family .

Now , we can assume that , FOR CENTURIES , the Shihoin clan has held both gotei captaincy & the commander-in-chief positions for centuries , in a cyclical nature the head of the family is vetted for the seats , trained in a techinque that i hc'd was Shihoin EXCLUSIVE ( see my shunko post ) , inherits the positions from the former head & then keeps it by using Shunko as a trump card. As a noble family i'm sure holding these seats was seen as an esteemed honor , much like the Kuchikis & their captains , so when the free spirited Yoruichi , the PRODIGY of the family , was subjected to the old rules of the old society , it really wouldn't take much to persuade her to defect .

So picture this , the Shihoins are an old , noble family whom possess / protect divine armor , have held the captaincy & commander-in-chief positions for centuries , created a powerful technique unique to their name , now suddenly faced with the fact that their prodigal head has suddenly defected with a declared TRAITOR & in the coming years was about to have their positions taken by a talented member of their subservient house . There was most definitely an uproar , the feng clam has , for the better part of their existence , bolstered the ranks of the executive militia with unremarkable members who have willingly joined & died unnoticed by their better house to the point where it was just accepted . They were socially low ranking , it was an honor if the current head even looked in your direction & when Soi fon aspired to take the positions so dearly coveted by her " better house " it tipped the scale of power on a socially political scale. This esteemed noble family was suddenly the recipient of great disgrace , through their exiled head they aided in the efforts of a traitor & lost the seats essential to their sway in the gotei. They attempted to persuade the head captain to deny Soi fon , out of a bitter perception of superiority , however the head captain was quick to rebuke their claims by reminding them that the onmitsukido & ninbantai had remained without a captain & commander , allowing them to fall into disarray , & that the Shihoin clan did not yet have ANY suitable members who could take the position .

In light of the disastrous situation , Soi fon earned her titles & single handedly unified the squads into a harmonious existence . Initially , the Shihoin house had regarded her coldly & with an air of contempt , however after impressing the masses with her leadership , strength & the example she set eventually the nobles came to harbor a deep RESPECT for her accomplishments . In all reality , they are in debted to her for fixing their mess before it caused anymore disgrace.

HC + SHUNKO

During Soi fon's debut in her conflict with Yoruichi , the battle begins to reach its peak as she reveals that , in secret , she has developed a technique that combines Kido & her accumulated physical prowess into an overwhelming power. She presents this as her trump card , quite PROUDLY until it is revealed that Yoruichi herself confirms that not only did the technique of Shunko exist prior to Soi fon's claim of invention , she can utelize it & is in fact within the middle stages of controlling it ( Enough so to counter Soi fons perfectly eith equal energy in reverse ) . This brings into question the origin of the technique , especially when taking into consideration the eventual revelation that Yuushiro Shihoin can activate it & the lack of any other member of Soi fon's comrades being shown to use it.

To evalute where i suspect this ability came from, i'm taking into consideration the fact that two shihoins have been shown to activate it & the statement Yoruichi delivers to Soi fon in which she states that she didn't want to teach her this technique & that she is not ready to use it quite yet.

The Shihoin clan typically presents the current head of it family as the leader of the onmitsukido, combining it with whichever division they so happen to maintain captaincy over ( For Yoruichi it was the second but, theoretically , it could be any division ) . Now , the shihoin clan is also the protectors of tools & weapons said to have been gifted to them by GODS ( One of which being the shield Ukitake utelizes to destroy the Sokyoku ) & the implication here is that the clan itself are , by default , holy protectors ( Blessed with great / divine purpose etc ) . Branching off of this belive would imply a preference in delegation , the head of the Shihoin clans purpose would be first & foremost the protection of aforementioned relics in the event they were targeted & threatened.

This leads me to believe Shunko was created & passed down by the Shihoin family , in light of this i'm also inclined to state that prior to the case Yoruichi & soi fon that this technique was tought ONLY to the Shihoin family head & that the knowledge of its existence & workings was restricted to the clans own members ( Seeing as Soi fon had no idea the tecnique had already been developed ) .

Arguably Yoruichi's admitted lack of control over it could disprove this theory however , she did abandon her position vaguely between the early to middle stages of her captaincy & maintained a smaller , restrictive feline form in which , had she been in the middle of being taught this technique when she was a captain , would have prevented her from perfecting it in the century time span To expand on this i see no reason why , as a child , Yoruichi would be trusted with this powerful technique & even further there is no proof she was the head of the family at the time ( Possibly it was her parents or parent , who later passed & gave her the title ).

HC + SOI FON’S BRAIDS

I made a headcanon on this once before, however , i mistakenly deleted it so here it is again. When considering Soi fon's fighting style & her pride as an assassin , it becomes ultimately clear that the long , wrapped braids ending at her waist are an enormous disadvantage & hindrance ( so why have them ? ). They are a means with which the enemy could gain the upper hand , with their length & orientation ( the back of the head ) they are potentially grabbable & could be utelize to incpacitate Soi fon or even to strangle her with. The golden rings tethered to the end are reflective , both the color & shape cause the hair ornament to catch the light which presents an inconvinience when stealth is necessary. These rings rest against her back , remaining out of her line of sight for a majority of the time & when concentrating on rendering herself hidden the added element of the ornaments becomes a possible obstruction to her goal.

An easy , offhand explination would be clan tradition as we know almost nothing of the customs associated with her family beyond their loyalty to the Shihoin family & their involvement with the omnitsukido. From Yuushiro shihoin , we surmise that specific hairstyles can be prevelent throughout a family. It is also possible that Soi fon's hairstyle is specifically worn to indicate the current HEAD of the household. As the individual who succeeded Yoruichi in captaincy , easily Soi fon could be considered the head of her family ( should they have one ) or have been chosen as one after the head of the Shihoin clan abandoned her titles & positions ( as leadership for the clan would be non existent / shakey ).

My original thoughts , however , was that her braids served as an alternate interpretation of Kenpachi's self inflicted disadvantage. Kenpachi fastened bells to the high points in his hair to increase the thrill of the battle ( by giving the enemy the upper hand ) , by default this creates a dynamic where Kenpachi must compensate to keep his footing in battle now that he's forfeited his position on the field by notifying the enemy through sound. This , in turn , is a catalyst for rapid self improvement & putting adaptibility into practice. This same dynamic , with the exception of elevating the thrill of the fight , is what soi fon is most likely implementing here. She thrives on perfecting her abilities , her drive to surpass Yoruichi aided in this decision because if she could not adapt & maintain the advantage with her handicap how close to beting Yoruichi was she realistically ? This hairstyle is abandoned post war , signifying that she has perfected that element of her skills & no longer requires or wants to keep the disadvantage in place.
