If you’d like the chance to be paired with one of the amazing artworks from this year’s fest, this is your opportunity. This round is for authors who didn’t claim during the first round or who are open to jumping in now to help ensure every piece gets a story.

🌸 hpwlwrsb2025 Update Time! 🌸

Just a little check-in from behind the scenes to share what’s happening in our lovely little corner of the fandom:

🎨 Our artists are hard at work, bringing magic to life with incredible pieces. 📚 Our authors are patiently waiting, dreaming up stories to pair with that art. 🛠️ The mods are busy modding, making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. 🌍 And yes—life is lifing, as it tends to do!

✨ We currently have 20+ artists and around 40 authors signed up (!!) 🎁 Some of our amazing artists have even graciously offered to create more than one piece, and we are so grateful. 💖 The energy in the community is thriving, full of positivity, support, and love. We truly can't wait to celebrate it all with you.

🗓️ Pinch-hitter signups (just in case!) will go up around July 15. 📅 Posting begins October 1 (mark your calendars!)

We’re opening up 10 more slots for HP WLW writers to join the HPWLWRSB fest! Sign-ups are back for a limited time, so if you missed your chance before—now’s the moment.

This is a low-pressure, collaborative fest centered around sapphic pairings in the HP universe. All skill levels welcome. You’ll be writing a short fic (min. 2.5k words) inspired by a piece of fanart!

What’s new in the HPWLWRSB community?

🎨 Artist sign-ups are now closed, and we’re excited to share that over 20 artists have joined us—some are even submitting two pieces. That’s fantastic news!

🎨 Writer sign-ups are currently on pause, but we plan to reopen them on May 1 and may accept up to 10 more writers, depending on final numbers.

🎨 All participating artists should have received the art submission guidelines. If you’re an HPWLWRSB artist and didn’t get that information, please reach out.

🎨 To make sure every writer gets a chance to be inspired, some artworks may be available to be picked by more than one author. We’re looking forward to seeing how many directions these incredible pieces can take.

Hi! I was thinking about signing up for the fest as an artist, but the form only mentions digital art, traditional art, and comics. I specialize in crochet, craft, and costume design. Would I be allowed to submit an art piece in one of those areas?

Thanks so much for reaching out—and we’d love to have you join the fest! While the form focuses on digital, traditional, and comic-style art, we’re happy to make an exception for original pieces in crochet, craft, or costume design, as long as it’s clear that the characters are from the Harry Potter universe.

Just a quick heads-up: it will be up to the writer whether they feel inspired to claim and interpret that kind of prompt. We want to be honest about that so you don’t end up disappointed if it doesn’t get matched. That said, we absolutely welcome creative expressions, and we’re excited about the possibility of having your work in the mix!

Hi I just signed up. How does it work? Do I get promots or am I free to draw whatever? Where do I submit my work?

Hi friend, thank you for your question. Here’s a quick overview of how it works: • You’re totally free to draw whatever you'd like, as long as it features a Harry Potter WLW pairing. • Once art submissions close, we’ll open writer claims. Writers will choose a piece of artwork that inspires them, and then write a story based on it. • After matches are made, we’ll check in with you and your assigned writer as you collaborate on your final pieces for the October posting period! • You’ll submit your art through a Google form (we’ll send that out closer to the submission deadline) and you can also post it on your own platforms when the fest goes live. We’ll be sending out more detailed emails with dates and reminders, but if you have any questions at all in the meantime, feel free to ask!

🚨 Writer Sign-Up Cap Announcement - HPWLWRSB

Hi everyone! We’re thrilled by the excitement and support for the HP WLW Reverse Bang — thank you so much to everyone who’s signed up so far!

To help us stay balanced and make sure all our artists are supported, we’re temporarily capping writer sign-ups at 30.

Right now, we have a limited number of artists, and we want to make sure each one gets the love and collaboration they deserve.

We also know that life happens, and some folks may have to drop out — so we’re being mindful of pacing and numbers.

✨ What’s next?

We’ll open up calls for pinch hitters in May if needed.

If we end up with enough artists to match with more writers, we’ll reopen writer sign-ups at that time!

Must the artworks include the (two) women as people? Or can we do something more abstract in the form of a collage? When working in non-digital mediums I like to work with collage techniques and more abstract forms of conceptualization. Likely, I would not include the ladies as physical representations. Would that be okay? It wouldn't be a classic fan art depicting the two characters in a situation next to each other, and it wouldn't be a classic mood board either. Sorry, it's hard to explain my ideas, and I have no example to show what I mean right now

Hi there! Thanks so much for your thoughtful question — and no need to apologize at all! We love hearing from artists with unique styles and approaches.

To answer your question: yes, your artwork can absolutely be abstract or conceptual in nature! It doesn’t need to be a traditional depiction of two recognizable characters posed next to each other. Collage and other mixed media forms are very welcome, even if the women are not represented as literal people. The key is that the piece should evoke or reference recognizable HP female characters in some way — whether that's through symbolism, visual motifs, colors, items, quotes, or any other element that connects to them.

Since this is a Reverse Bang, we just ask that your piece offers enough narrative inspiration for a writer to build a fic around. As long as the art is clearly rooted in the HP universe and has a sapphic/femslash connection (even if that’s more abstract), you're good to go!

Do i need to draw the exact couple that i wrote in fave wlw couple or can i draw lets say something else instead that what I wrote.

No. When you want to start creating, which is anytime now... you can pick whatever couple you want. As long as it's by the guidelines.

You state that art must be anonymous for claiming process but at the same time state that it has to be watermarked and signed. Could you clarify that please? because signing my artwork will make it possible to see who made it... sorry if I did not read things thoroughly enough and it is explained somewhere else.

You're absolutely right to ask for clarification. For the claiming process, the artwork should remain anonymous, so please don't sign your name on it. What we meant by “signed/watermarked” was to protect your work from reposting — so something like:

HPWLWRSB FEST 2025. DO NOT REPOST (in any style you like, across the image or in a corner)

Alternatively, once the Discord channels open, we’ll also have a watermark you can use if that’s easier.

When your art is paired with an author and the final version is ready to be sent to them, that’s when you can sign your name if you’d like.

hi! would you accept gender-swapped characters?

Hi! Thanks so much for asking — we really appreciate the interest and creativity! For this fest, we’re focusing on stories featuring recognizable female characters from the HP universe (canon or fanon). That means we aren’t allowing gender-swapped versions of male characters as main characters.

That said, we do welcome a wide range of interpretations of canon/fanon women — including trans women, non-binary characters, and AFAB characters — as long as they’re recognizable as HP’s WLW characters. All the rules are here.
