Truly I am becoming so sick of people treating my religion like a fun quirky irl Percy Jackson. (I've ALWAYS been sick of it but oh my gods)
This is a REAL AND ANCIENT RELIGION. These are GODS. Not your silly best friends that are just constantly chilling around you. The lack of respect towards their divinity and weird mortalization of them I've seen in some spaces (not as much on Tumblr but tiktok and SEVERAL discord servers I'm in) is so uncomfortable and angering.
The prevalence of "deity identification spreads" as if they're trying to figure out their godly parent in PJO, the constant "what god is reaching out to me?" questions I see from beginners who barely even KNOW hellenic polytheism, and the constant treatment of the Theoi as fun friends that just sit around on altars at someone's every beck and call. It's so upsetting? It's so uncomfortable?
Yes, the gods love us. Of course, they care for us. But where is the respect? Where is your kharis? How can they love you when they don't even know you? And how can you claim to love Them when you hardly know Them?
You MUST research in this religion. There are no cutting corners. You must must MUST learn. Because without understanding how sacred the practices are and their significance of them to their time and who these gods truly were, you run DANGEROUSLY close to religious and cultural appropriation.

I lied put your clothes back on we're gonna talk about how your monotheistic upbringing has affected your perception of hellenic polytheism without you even realizing it

Just because you cannot see the strings the Fates weave doesn't mean you should stress. The future may be terrifying, but the Gods work to forge us into the people we're meant to be.
You will be okay when the time passes.

Anyway, the main reason I was around & lurking in ur blog: I wanted to tell someone that I've started veiling!!!! It's like. All My Worries Have Gone Away. And! It's such a simple way to remind myself who I am--a Pagan--and that the Gods are here!!! & I can do it as an easy devotional message bc I sometimes struggle with that for various reasons!!! I just feel so warm, happy, secure (the main reason why I veil, to intentionally create a barrier between myself/my thoughts/my energies and the outside world), and adored (mostly bc I directly feel my Beings/that part of me all the time when I wear it <33)!!! I- I just wanted to tell you bc I saw you also veil <333. It just- it helps me in so many ways that it makes me feel loved by the entire universe (figuratively, ofc /lh) <333
-@that-one-ya-pagan-book <33
I love to hear this!! And I love that you felt comfortable to share this with me 馃 I'm so so happy that veiling has made you feel so at peace with the universe and more connected to the Gods.
The Gods love you!!

Even as a reconstructionist who values keeping things as close to the ancient as possible, I have one belief that I hold dear to me - and that is that the Gods are omnipresent. Regardless of historical context (which I know is not historically accurate), or what others may think, its a belief that keeps me going.

The gods breathe the air in our lungs. Their breath shakes the leaves in the trees and blows gently against our skin. Their touch is as light as the rays of the sun, and just as the sun, it can burn with too much force. We are fragile beings, and the gods know this. They treat us the tenderness of a shepherd to a newborn lamb.

I love creating elaborate, personal rituals for the gods but there鈥檚 also something so divine and beautiful about making magick out of the mundane.
Washing away stale energy in the shower
Brushing my teeth with mint toothpaste for Hades while praying to Him and asking for guidance in speaking the truth
Wearing pomegranate lip balm for Persephone and asking Her to keep the words I say just and fair
Stirring a sigil into my morning coffee for focus and energy
It鈥檚 just such an incredible reminder that the gods are everywhere in our lives, that everything is touched by them. And that makes every little mundane part of life so much more meaningful to me

This may be a really hot take, but I feel that a lot of ancient religious practices in modern times, have been made too "mainstream" in the sense that some of the things I see practitioners do is quite disrespectful at times. (i.e yes, we should talk to the Gods and connect with them but no, they're not your besties that you hang out with and talk to as such).
At the end of the day, its your practice and you should do what feels right (and this is in no way targeted at anyone specific) but some of the things I see on the internet make me feel that we may never get the respect we deserve from other religions.

I saw your post on veiling, and I have a question about it.
I鈥檓 not sure where I stand on the whole reconstructionist/not thing, but is veiling just for women? I鈥檓 interested in it, but I鈥檓 incredibly hesitant to do so because I鈥檓 transmasc and don鈥檛 want to do something that would point to the contrary.
Hey anon! I love this question - men in ancient Greece did indeed veil, even if it wasn't as common. The act of veiling for men typically had specific cultural and ritual connotations rather than being a daily practice, but in short, yes absolutely you, as a man, can veil (even as a daily practice).
Concepts like these are the things we can divert from to accommodate our modern practices. For historical context, the Himation was the most common style of veil men used, but as you saw in my post there're so many (even more than what I posted). As long as you do what feels right and comfortable for you, there shouldn't be fear of not honoring history or anything of the sort.
Either way, and whatever you decide, the Gods love you 馃

psa that this blog is focused on traditional ancient greek religion practices. obviously you may do as you see fit, and what feels right for you and your practice, thats something i should not need to mention because we all have free will but the information given here will be with the assumption of traditional practices not modern ones!
