so i’ve been writing on ao3 for years, and over that time my style has improved immensely. my newer fics are growing popular, which i’m very proud of since they’re with my new and improved writing style. my old fics (small fandom, rarepair, makes this harder 😖) are cute, but i’m quite embarrassed of them. i think keeping them up on my profile is a good way to remind myself how far i’ve come, but i’m fighting the urge to delete them. how do you feel when authors delete their old fics? should i?

Heartbroken? 

If you don’t want the fics attached to your profile, consider adding them to the orphan_account instead. You can find more information here. Basically, orphaning a fic means that your name is removed from the story and any comment replies you wrote, you give up all credit for it, and you can never get it back. Ever.

I have fics out there that I cringe sometimes when I think about, but I’m okay with that. Like you said, they show how I’ve grown as a person and as a writer. And I also know that a lot of people liked those stories (the one I cringe about the most won a fandom award!). They’re nothing to be ashamed about. :)
