It’s Sea Otter Awareness Week!

September 21 to 27 is Sea Otter Awareness Week, an annual event coordinated by Friends of the Sea Otter, a non-profit advocacy group protecting sea otters. From the event’s website:

Sea Otter Awareness Week falls on the last week in September and is an annual recognition of the vital role that sea otters play in the nearshore ecosystem.  Each year, zoos, aquariums, natural history museums, marine institutions, filmmakers, researchers, academics, educators, and the public participate in various events and activities highlighting sea otters and their natural history and the various conservation issues sea otters are faced with. This year marks the 10th year anniversary of Sea Otter Awareness Week and hope to inspire the conservation of these beloved marine mammals!

Events are being held all over the U.S. and in Vancouver, Canada; Brest, France; and Lisbon, Portugal. Click here to find one near you.

And you know what's really about all this Slaine-is-an-asshole-I-will-keep-hating-him-for-his-assholery thing? I have work to do. A lot of work. On a Sunday. And all I can think about are fucking anime characters. Fml. I'm in the wrong line of work. I need to rethink my life.

Fuck Slaine Troyard. Seriously.

I do not give a damn about the fact that he was tortured and what he did or did not know about Inaho or whatever the fuck else might have emotionally impaired his personality -- the child is an idiot who was manipulated from the beginning by almost everyone. Okay, okay. I know. I clearly liked Inaho better. I didn't even like Inaho that much but he was a more compelling character and that's kinda ironic right, since he's a fridge and all. But, Inaho championed a really rare point of view for an anime character -- he didn't seem to carry an ounce of emotional weight in his decision making whatever emotional weight he actually carried with him. He was pure fucking logic (and okay, characters who are way too rational for their own good is not all that rare in anime, it really isn't. I'll give you that one. Like, Heero Yuy, that's a pretty...uh...similar one if we really had to go digging for one) but Inaho did what he had to in every situation not because it was the right thing to do or the good thing to do or the morally righteous thing to do or whatever bullshit normative reason -- he did it because it was the maximally effective thing to do. The guy really didn't give a shit about anything. He exploits who he exploits, does what he does, says what he says just because it is the maximally effective, most efficient thing to say or do or whatever. And you know, this is not to say that he was a robot or a computer, he clearly had emotions and probably more swirling in his head than Slaine, for all of his crying and weeping and confused wide-eyed staring had going on in his. Inaho was like...that quiet part of the stacks in the library during finals time when everyone's flipping out and sleeping in the cubbies in their pajamas and whatever, he's the guy who never talked in class unless he had to and is just strolling through the stacks like he doesn't give a shit. He gets an A anyway and just kinda half smiles at you the next semester you bump into him again in the cafeteria or something.That's a terrible metaphor. He was just a good character. (and they really played it up too, with the flashbacks and shit of him and princess. Fuckers.) I'm not even going to try to sympathize with Slaine. Say what you will about me as a person but man, you know, there were so many things he could have done in this situation and shooting Inaho was not an effective one. Yes. I'm about to get really really judg-fucking-mental. There are a lot of things Slaine did not know about Inaho and his relationship with the princess and so on and whatever, it was an emotionally charged situation and would I have reacted any better after seeing the love of my life shot and killed, probably not. BUT okay. So this Count makes your old master torture you, kill your old master once he pieces his murder-treason plot together, kinda saves you but not really saves you but then let's you go because he doesn't care enough about your life because he needs to go exact revenge for his lost love, and he mocks you for saving his life because that let him kill, KILL, SHOOT, TWICE, MULTIPLE TIMES, MURDER, the girl that you are in love with --- and what the living fucking do you, YOU MORONIC CHILD (of some doctor the show has yet to really get into), you fucking KILL INAHO? really. As if they guy who's bleeding and barely fucking alive is really going to desecrate the dead body of the love of your life and you need to point a gun at him, you weak fuck, because you couldn't put a bullet through the Count's head? Seriously. Fuck you Slaine. I didn't even realize I liked Inaho all that much until Slaine put a fucking bullet through his head. Thanks you little shit and now I have to wait until January to find out what happens next and it's going to the Slaine Troyard fucking shit show with his emotion problems and blah blah blah. Prove me Aldnoah Zero. Please prove me the fuck wrong. /end rant (In other words, great season finale from Aldnoah! Good job Urobutcher. Always saving the death and slaying for last. As someone on FB feed said, even worse than the red wedding!)
