Runaways - F! Wild Witch! Reader
Word Count: 10.1 K (10,168)
T/W: Somewhat graphic physical abuse, verbal abuse, death (petrification), abandonment
Summary: Summary: (Y/n) runs away when home is no longer safe. She meets the Golden Guard and together they strive for a better life.
This one has a better relationship with Reader and Hunter considering my previous ones lol.
“I don’t want a sigil!” She cried out. “I like my magic! I… I want to keep it, even if that means not being in a coven!”
Her mother frowned and stepped forward. “What about the Titan’s will? About everything we’ve worked for?!” She shouted angrily, eyeing her daughter.
(Y/n) fought back tears of frustration and exhaustion. “MAYBE I DON’T CARE ABOUT WHAT THE TITAN WANTS! I DON’T CARE WHAT BELOS SAYS! I LIKE MY MAGIC- I LIKE BEING A WILD WITCH!!” (Y/n) finally confessed, shouting the truth to both of her parents.
Her mother scowled again, “HUSH!!” She bellowed, stepping forward and beating her harshly with a fist formed of abomination magic. (Y/n) shrieked as she felt the blows and attempted to cover herself with her arms, being knocked back but not giving in or falling as she was hit.
Her mother halted and (Y/n) panicked as she felt her father’s hand gripping her wrist. She struggled, pulling back weakly as she tried to get away.
“Nonono!” She cried desperately, slipping on the floor as she tried to run, “NO! LET ME GO!” She screamed helplessly.
“After everything we’ve done for you-” Her mother cried out in horror, “You choose to live this disgusting life of- of-”
“Wild magic…” Her father muttered, pulling her closer.
“I can’t believe this!” Her mother cried out again, flailing her arms up. (Y/n) flinched back, expecting another blow after so many she had already received.
(Y/n) yelped as her father lifted her off of the ground, pain burning in her arm as she felt her entire weight straining it.
Her mother began to pace in the room, ignoring her daughter completely. “We take care of you! We feed you- look after you! We’ve raised you the best we possibly could!” (Y/n)’s mother shouted in anguish. “We’ve taught you all their is to Sigil’s and the Titan’s will! We’ve even had scouts come in to try to help you!!” She shrieked with frustration. (Y/n) panted madly as she tried to get away.
(Y/n)’s father gripped her face and stared into her eyes with disgust. “Out of all the damned, insufferable witches on these isles…” (Y/n)’s eyes bloomed with tears as she feared the worst. “I can’t believe my daughter is a wild witch-” (Y/n)’s father muttered again, throwing her to the ground.
(Y/n) shrieked as she hit the floor. She trembled, disoriented and afraid. She felt the stinging of new bruises and scrapes across her body. (Y/n) got on her elbows, shaking violently as she tried to rise. The pain in her body overwhelmed her, causing her to collapse back onto the floor.
The woman created a circle with her finger and it began to glow, “We can’t believe you…” Her mother muttered. From the circle, she summoned another round of abomination magic. She raised her arm for the final time and struck it down, commanding the ooze to slash the girl, crystal-like, miniature blades searing through her entire body, one leaving a big gash on her cheek.  (Y/n)’s parents glared at the child before them for a moment before walking out of the room, leaving her alone.
(Y/n) panted frantically as she began to cry. She lifted herself off of the ground and kneeled for a moment, giving into sobs. The young witch cried with desperation, feeling empty and utterly hopeless. Her parents hated her for not wanting a sigil or a coven. From the moment they realized she didn’t want one, they used every tactic they could to try and force her to get one. All of their attempts failed and, with no hesitation at all, they resorted to violence and abuse.
(Y/n) curled up, weeping loudly. She covered her hands with her face as tears burned her like boiling rain. She could feel her soul tearing apart completely. She struggled to stand but finally rose with little balance. She began to stumble out of the room and up the stairs to the closest thing she knew to safety: her room.
She heaved her door open and shut it gently once inside. (Y/n) collapsed onto her bed, trembling as quiet sobs shook her. She shifted and looked to her window as the dim light of the sun gently washed over her. (Y/n)’s sobs became quieter as she watched the fading rays of light.
She curled up into a ball once more.
No. This ends now.

The Golden Guard kneeled before the Emperor of the Boiling Isles. He trembled slightly, feeling the attack just barely brush his skin. He shut his eyes tightly as a few pieces of hair fell gently to the cold ground.
The male held his head high, “My apologies. I spoke out of turn.” The Emperor’s deformed armed slithered away and returned to normal. “It won’t happen again.”
The Emperor hunched over and grunted in discomfort. “These outburts are… ugh- painful…” He recovered and stood up as his eyes glowed a dangerous blue. “And so is watching you fail…” He hissed coldly. He stared at the young boy before him. “I know you can do better, Hunter,” He muttered quietly.
Hunter smiled weakly. His eyebrows furrowed as he felt the slightest sliver of mercy from the Emperor.
He left the throne room and, after briefly speaking with Kiki Mora, went into his room. The young male laid on his bed and sighed hopelessly. He covered his eyes with his hands, “I can help. If I just knew a little more…” His thinking was interrupted by the familiar chirping of a cardinal.
Hunter shot up and looked to his window where the small bird stood. “Huh? Palisman!” He exclaimed in surprise. He reached forward and clasped the bird tightly with both hands, causing it to peep.
“Oh- sorry…” He apologized awkwardly to it. “You shouldn’t be here, it’d be bad if Belos saw you…” He murmured worriedly as he pet the bird. The red bird chirped and flew up, transforming into a staff. Hunter flinched back as he held the newly transformed staff. “Oh- I was not expecting that…” He stood and walked to his window, watching the world outside as he held the staff.
Hunter sighed again. “He never lets me help. Whenever I get to close- he pushes me away! Sometimes… sometimes he even hurts me…” He murmured bitterly, recalling when he had recieved a blow so sharp it left him with a scar across his jaw. He shook the memory off abruptly yet thousands more flooded in before he could stop them. The young male felt his hands begin to tremble as he recalled each attack. Time after time the emperor reacted harshly and punished him. From locking him in a cell for days to neglecting him to even attacking him; Hunter had seen it all.
He shut his eyes and recalled his meeting with the human. He gripped the staff tightly. “She did save me from Kiki…” He sighed again, feeling claustrophobic and unsafe in his room. “Maybe… I should go, just for a bit! Maybe I can find some answers out there somehow.” He stared at the world outside as the sun began to set.

(Y/n) panted nervously as she crept through her dark room. She had spent an entire week planning and was finally ready. She knew her parents would keep a close eye on her, so she used extreme cation in her planning. (Y/n) reached her window and opened it, glancing back to her room. She examined it and felt a deep sadness overwash her as she saw her refuge for the last time. She took very little with her: a bag filled with clothes, some food, money she had scrapped up over the last year, and a plush she had loved since her childhood. She sighed, knowing she could bare it no longer, and climbed to the window. She shut her eyes and summoned the palisman she had kept secret for so long. She held the staff tightly and leaped out the window, falling slightly before gliding up and away through the dark town.
For years her parents had abused and mistreated her. She suffered almost endlessly because of their cruelty. Tears burned her eyes as she began to sob. Where could she possibly go? Who could she possibly confide in now? (Y/n) held her head low and watched the town disappear from view as she flew away from Bonesburrough.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
A young male made his way through the Bonesburrough forest as the evening faded into night. His head filled with endless what-ifs and what-should-have-beens. I failed- again. I keep failing… Maybe… Oh I should have left when I first thought of it…
As he trampled through the woods, a flash of movement caught his eyes. His instincts kicked in immediately and he summoned his staff, twirling it into his hands. He glared at the red trees surrounding him.
“SHOW YOURSELF!” He demanded, stepping back as he studied the forest surrounding him. “I KNOW YOU’RE THERE!” His grip tightened as he prepared himself for an attack.
A rustling from behind him made him teleport closer to the sound. He watched anxiously for any further movement. The male raised his staff as a figure made its way out of the shadows.
A young witch stepped closer to him. “Who are you?!” (Y/n) demanded as she held her staff defensively. The young male stood back and raised his own staff closer to her.
“Who are you?” He questioned in return, carefully circling the witch.
She furrowed her brows as she recognized him for a brief moment. “Wait-” She asked as she relaxed her glare.  “Weren’t you in the Hexside Flyer Derby team?” She asked as she relaxed her stance.
The male squinted as he examined her, “And… aren’t you the kid who’s been missing for a couple of months?” She tensed and lowered her staff. “You’re in posters all over Bonesburrough…”
“I… yeah…” She lowered her shoulders. “You can’t tell anyone though! I- I can’t let them find me!” She cried out, stepping back nervously.
“Woah! Don’t worry. I won’t say anything,” He reassured, holding his hands in front of him. Although his hands were facing her, he held onto his staff.
She glared at the male before holding her staff the same way he did. She gripped it nervously with a single hand. (Y/n) examined the male. He was a tall, somewhat sickly yet handsome male. He seemed rather mature just from how he acted. He had bright magenta eyes and dark eye bags. His hair was a bright golden color and a single strand stood out in front of him. He had a somewhat large, almost bulky nose, yet it was attractive. The last feature she took in was the first one she noticed: a large, gaping scar on the right side of his face from his cheek to his chin.
“Well, what are you doing here?” She asked nervously as she kept eyeing him.
The male blushed, “I- uh…” He hesitated to answer. “I just…” He frowned awkwardly. As he tried to come up with something, his staff disappeared and the palisman that once rested on it flew up to him. The red cardinal circled his head while chirping wildly before proceeding to tug on the stray strand of hair viciously.
“OW OW OW OW OW!! OKAY OKAY!!” He cried desperately as he waved his arms. The red bird let go of his hair and sat on his shoulder. The young male blushed even deeper in embarrassment. “Okay, the TRUTH-” He muttered as he glared at the palisman, “Is this: I’m the Golden Guard. And lately… I haven’t done a very good job in any of my missions. So… after a while of considering it… I… left…” He then looked at the witch in front of him before flinching. “BUT ONLY FOR A BIT! I just… want to better myself before returning…” He looked at the witch before him again. “What’s your story? Why did you run away?” He muttered curiously.
(Y/n) blushed madly. “I-” She choked, unsure of what to tell him. This was the Golden Guard after all. “I… I ran away because I was- my life was in danger…” She admitted nervously. Her grip tightened on her staff as she admit the truth. “I’m a wild witch and both of my parents are in covens. They have a pretty high status so… they hated me for not following their steps.” The male examined the young girl before him and realized just how many scars and bruises she was covered in.
He chuckled lightly. “I… guess that makes two of us..”
She looked up at him, “Your parents hate you?” She asked.
He frowned awkwardly and looked down, and shuffling his feet. “I… don’t have parents. I’ve never known anyone from my family except Emperor Belos. He’s my uncle!” He said as he smiled at her, “He found me and took me in. I… I’ve studied a lot about wild magic but… he doesn’t like it. I don’t mean any harm by it but it always upsets him. I’m trying to help his curse but… every time I get close…” He turned his head nervously and scratched his cheek as he thought.
(Y/n) gasped as she realized. “He hurts you…” She watched as he bent his ears back and looked at her.
“Yeah… I guess so…” He frowned awkwardly as he tried to take his mind off of it. “Aren’t you from the (L/n) family?” He asked, recalling her last name from the posters. He remembered coming across her parents before. They were two powerful witches always willing to lend their services to the Emperor. But she’s a wild witch… maybe she understands curses more than I do…
She eyed him before answering. “(Y/n). I’m (Y/n).” She froze for a moment before continuing. “And they’re not my family…" She muttered. She glanced up to him, “And aren’t you… Caleb Blood Jasper Willy or something?” She asked nervously. All of his questions made her uneasy. She felt exposed and vulnerable just from speaking to him.
The male laughed before waving his hand dismissively. “No! That was just a fake name- for Flyer Derby. My real name is Hunter.” He smiled again to the young witch. “I guess we’re on the same team, huh?” He crossed his arms and looked at her, recalling the human that had once saved him.
“I guess so,” She replied, relaxing slightly. She looked up to the darkened sky. “Say, it’s getting dark,” She murmured, examining the darkened horizon.
Hunter shifted, looking around and realizing he hadn’t found somewhere to stay. “Yeah… It is getting dark…” He replied softly, feeling somewhat uneasy. I can’t go back to the castle. If Belos saw me sneaking back in at this hour…
(Y/n) glanced back to the male, sensing he had come unprepared. She hesitated, wondering what she was possibly risking just by mentioning it. “Y-you should come to my place.” (Y/n) offered.
Hunter looked away from fading light and at her, “Really? You’d let me come with you?” He asked with uncertainty.
“Of course, why not?” She said, “Besides, I know I would have appreciated someone’s help when I first left. You haven’t been gone for long, right? Then that means you don’t have somewhere to stay.” Hunter glanced at her in disbelief.
“Well, thank you, (Y/n)”. (Y/n) smiled sweetly. She hadn’t heard someone thank her in years.
The young witch led the male through the woods until the moon rose. She then cast a cluster of light spells, small bright orbs hovering over her and Hunter. As they walked on, they arrived at a small clearing.
“I’m… sorry I don’t have much to offer. I didn’t do much here because I felt I didn’t have the need for much but…” She looked to Hunter, “If you’ll be staying with me, I can fix it up!” (Y/n) chirped as she motioned to her small camp.
Hunter looked in the direction in which she motioned. Within the small clearing there was a makeshift hammock made of abomination magic, a cluster of random objects, and in the center what seemed to have been a campfire.
He chuckled lightly, “Don’t worry about it!” He exclaimed, “I’ve survived with less!” He said proudly as he looked at her few belongings.
“Really?” (Y/n) asked suspiciously. She walked over to her hammock and sat on it. “How so?” She leaned forward and waited for a response.
“Well,” Hunter sat down in front of her. He watched as she created a new fire in the center of the camp. “To become scouts for the Emperor’s Coven, we have to go through intense training!” He explained excitedly. “We had witch’s duels! Mazes with traps! And one time- for our last training- we were left at the top of a mountain with nothing!” He laughed for a moment, “Oh! Whoever made it to the bottom alive was- haha! Was deemed worthy of being in the Emperor's coven! Hooo… classic!” He laughed again and (Y/n) laughed along with him, entertained by his excitement.
“Woah! Sounds like you went through quite a bit!” She laughed lightly again. (Y/n) pulled out a worn-out plush and held it in her lap.
“Yeah, I guess you could say that.” He supported himself on his arm and watched the fire trickle. “But I was in the coven for so long that any of this feels like an advantage…” He glanced around again.
“Huh… I wish…” She muttered, resting her head on her plush.
Hunter looked up at her again. He examined (Y/n)’s features as the firelight made them visible. She had soft, (s/c) skin. As he looked at her he realized just how bruised and scared her (s/c) skin was. Her eyes were a gentle (e/c) color that reflected the warm fire. She had (h/l), (h/c) hair that gently flowed and swayed with the cold breeze.
His eyes darted to the plush in her arms and then to her scars. “What… happened to you? How did you get all those… scars?” (Y/n) glanced to her arms and blushed in humiliation.
“I should be asking the same thing!” She exclaimed. “You have a huge scar on your face!” She motioned towards him and unintentionally made the fire rise for a moment.
Hunter flinched and thought for a moment before answering. He scratched his scar gently as he thought. “Okay, I’ll tell you but you have to answer me. Is that a deal?” He asked as he stared at her cooly.
(Y/n) laughed half-heartedly. “Sure, whatever.” She shifted again. “Okay, so tell me. How did you get your scar?”
Hunter crouched and set his head on his knees as he recalled the moment it happened. “I was with the Emperor. I was still a young witch then…” He explained as he stared into the dancing fire. “I remember he had an outburst that day. I had become excited over something… I think I was talking about some… study on wild magic I had done…” Hunter dug his fingers into his knees. “I was talking so excitedly about it and suddenly- something cut me…” His eyes shifted wildly as tears began to gather in his eyes.
(Y/n) watched the young witch anxiously. “I fell to the ground and felt my face,” Hunter reached up to his cheek. “When I looked at my hand I realized it was covered in blood. I began to cry and… Belos was deformed. His hand had turned into a massive, goopy, thing. It almost looked like his limb was made of abomination magic,” He looked up to (Y/n) and realized how into the story she was. “He had an outburst and told me it was because of the curse wild magic had caused him.” Hunter rested his head on his knees and looked away. “After that… he taught me that wild magic was harmful- it hurt him and it caused him to hurt me. Now, my scar is a reminder that wild magic is harmful and dangerous…” His voice faded away gently as he finished his story.
(Y/n) squished her plush in her arms. “That’s… horrible…” She murmured softly. She looked at him nervously, remembering what he said about wild magic. She hesitated, unsure if being a wild witch herself would drive him away. Or he could report me. He is the Golden Guard after all…
She glanced at Hunter who had curled up beside the fire. “My story isn’t too different though…” She rocked herself gently on her hammock. “When I found out that sigils lock away almost all of our magic, I knew I didn’t want to get one anymore.” She glanced nervously at Hunter. “I wanted to be free and use my magic. When my parents found out, they were furious!” She exclaimed. (Y/n) ran her fingers through her hair. “Oh Titan, they tried everything to get me to ‘reason’. They tried teaching me everything there was about the TiTaN and CoVenS. They showed me coven after coven to try and revive my interest in one…” She lowered her head, “One time… they even had scouts from the Emperor’s coven try to convince me to join a coven. They told me what would happen if I didn’t get a sigil by the day of unity.” She sighed and rocked herself in the hammock again.
“Then what happened?” Hunter asked curiously.
(Y/n) squeezed her plush nervously. “When they realized that I wouldn’t change my mind after that… they began to use… other tactics.” The young witch shifted nervously on the hammock. Her gaze had become fixed on the flicker of the fire. “They began to humiliate me for being a wild witch, telling me how ungrateful I was for all of their efforts in raising me the right way. They yelled at me, they told me something was wrong with me, that I was pathetic and an abomination in the eyes of the Titan…” She scratched her neck nervously and chuckled half-heartedly. “And when that didn’t work either, well…” (Y/n) looked to her (s/c) skin and traced the scars and bruises imbedded into her. “They…” She choked, hesitating to retell what she lived for years. “T-they…” She tried to control her quaking lips to prevent herself from crying. “They started to use physical force to try and change my mind…” She tried to laugh through her sentence but her voice broke. (Y/n) hastily wiped away a few tears that had gathered in her eyes. “And that’s how I got- all this,” She motioned to her damaged skin. “They started to hurt me hoping I’d change my mind just so that I’d stop but… Here I am, wild as ever!” She chuckled nervously.
Hunter stared at her with wide eyes, his lips slightly parted. For the first time, (Y/n) noticed the gap between his front teeth, causing her to smile slightly. All of the imperfections he held were somehow… attractive. His eye bags, the silly, bulky nose, the massive scar, and the adorable little gap between his teeth. What a goofball…
“I… didn’t know life was so… difficult for wild witches like you!” Hunter admit thoughtfully. He frowned in shame, “I’m… I’m so sorry you had to go through all that,” He murmured gently.
(Y/n) brushed it off, “Oh don’t worry. If I hadn’t gone through all that, I wouldn’t have run away and found you,” She replied gently.
Hunter blushed slightly. He hadn’t expected that she actually liked his company. Yet, she seemed to have. He smiled to himself as he watched the fire.
“And what about your toy?” He asked, motioning to the plush in her arms.
(Y/n) blushed as she looked at her worn-out plush. “Oh uh… this is (plush’s/name). (He/she/it) was my favorite toy ever since I was little and I brought (him/her/it) with me. (P/n) reminded me of… better times…”
Hunter tilted his head with curiosity. “Did your… parents give it to you?” He asked nervously.
(Y/n) huffed and curled up on the hammock. “I bought it myself because they wouldn’t…” She muttered, squeezing (P/n) in her arms.
Hunter smiled, “Well, Flapjack is my secret Palisman. I kinda go him myself too!” He said, motioning to the bird on his shoulder. Flapjack chirped happily as Hunter pet him.
(Y/n) lifted her head and giggled softly. “Same with my Palisman!” She summoned her palisman and it sat on her lap next to her plush.
The young male smiled, revealing the gap between his teeth. “I guess… we’re pretty similar, huh?” He asked, looking up to her.
(Y/n) blushed. “I guess so…” She replied softly. She looked up at the sky, seeing the moon shine brightly through the night. “We should get some sleep, it’s already pretty late.” She said looking back at Hunter. She waved her finger to make a circle and created a hammock for Hunter.
“Goodnight,” She murmured as she laid on her side.
Hunter blushed again, “Goodnight…”
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter shuffled in his hammock, feeling the warmth of the sun wash over him. The young male rose up, rocking the hammock with his movement.
“Good morning to you, Mr. Golden Guard,” (Y/n) sang. The male blushed, remembering where he was. Flapjack flew to his side and chirped happily.
“How long did you say you were staying?” She asked, looking at the male.
Hunter paused as he looked around. “Well… I had thought about… maybe just a day or two but…” He looked around the small camp, and then to (Y/n). He blushed again and looked away. “I guess I’ll stay a while… besides… I don’t think Belos would care if I was gone…” He muttered softly.
(Y/n) frowned slightly, “Well that settles it, we’re fixing this place up.” She stood up and brushed her hands together, creating a large circle.
Within the clearing, she created what seemed like the platform of a house. She glanced back to Hunter. “What? You’re not going to help?” She asked, eyeing the male.
Hunter’s face turned a dark red. He stood up and looked away, ashamed of himself. “I’m… I can’t… actually do magic…" He murmured softly.
(Y/n) set her arms down and walked back to him. “Why not?” She asked as she approached him.
Hunter frowned. “I’m powerless. A lot of my ancestors were. That’s why I use a staff,” He motioned to Flapjack who flew to him. “Without Flapjack, I can’t do magic.”
The red cardinal chirped again as Hunter pet him.
(Y/n)’s gaze softened as she looked at him, “Well, don’t worry. Magic or not, you can stay with me,” She offered sweetly, looking into his magenta eyes.
Hunter smiled, “Really? You don’t mind?” He asked nervously.
“Nah, besides,” She called her palisman over, “I could use some company, and so could you.” Hunter smiled at her, grateful someone wasn’t shaming him at last. “You’re still helping me though!” She sang happily as she created another circle with her palisman.
A wide grin spread across Hunter’s face and he laughed, summoning his staff. The two witches made multiple circles, using construction magic to create a new home for each other. (Y/n) waved her arms and Hunter followed, using his staff to solidify new walls, and create windows and floors. (Y/n) laughed as she danced with her magic, finally freeing all of her hidden potential. She created a new circle and decorated the new cottage with a beautiful, floral roof.
“See! That was awesome!” She exclaimed as Hunter approached her.
He laughed with excitement. “I’ve… never created something with magic. I’ve always just trained to fight and defend myself…” He murmured softly, looking at the home he created.
“See, this is exactly why I wanted to keep my magic- it has so many uses!” She motioned to the cottage. “Now we have a new home, together.”
Hunter blushed lightly. That had been the first time she smile so much since he had come across her. He examined her face again, the beautiful smile that adorned it all. He caught himself staring and looked away hastily, glancing to the home he had built. Home…

The small demon kneeled before the Emperor.
“Kiki Mora, where is the Golden Guard?” He asked boldly.
The small demon was tempted to growl in annoyance. “We do not know, Emperor Belos,” She confessed. “He has not returned since his last mission.” Thank Titan he hasn’t come back. Hopefully dead.
The masked Emperor gripped his throne with fury. “Find him. And bring him back. I cannot afford to lose my nephew and my best scout.”
Kiki Mora gritted her teeth in utter anger. “Of course, Emperor Belos. We’ll find him.”
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Weeks had passed since the witches first came across each other. Hunter had grown close to (Y/n) in the little time he had spent with her.
He glanced at the girl before him in the market, blushing lightly as he admired her features. As he gazed at her, his Palisman chirped.
“Huh?” As asked, not having heard him through his thoughts. The small cardinal chirped again, asking why he stared so intently at her. Hunter blushed madly, “SHH!! FLAPJACK DON’T SAY THAT!!” He cried out in embarrassment. The palisman sang another question. “Because,” He growled, “Maybe someone else might hear you…” He whispered aggressively. The bird continued to make a frenzy of calls and chirps, gaining (Y/n)’s attention.
She turned around and smiled, “Woah, sounds like Flapjack is excited to be out, huh?” She smiled at the two, her own palisman on her shoulder.
Flapjack stared dead into (Palisman’s/name)’s eyes, knowing (she/he/it) had understood him perfectly. Hunter glanced at the two palisman and panicked. “CUT THAT OUT!” He cried, flailing his arm in front of Flapjack.
(Y/n)’s palisman glanced up to her and (sound)ed. “Huh? They’re just teasing each other? Well sounds like they’re having fun.” She smiled at the two before continuing through the market.
Hunter sighed with relief and followed her as she walked on. “So… what are we going to get?” He asked, looking around at the market. “Mother Titan… so many of these things are serious violations!” He cried out as he looked around.
(Y/n) laughed, “Hunter don’t worry. It’s not so bad, we’ll be okay. Besides, we’re just here to get a few things so we can eat later,” She replied sweetly. “And my witch’s wool to repair (Plush’s/name).”
Hunter half smiled. Being with her had somehow become so reassuring, he knew he could do anything as long as she was with him.
(Y/n) turned to her palisman as it (sound)ed again. She turned back to see Flapjack and Hunter still bickering and teasing each other. (Y/n) laughed lightly while the two ignored her. In the two months she had been alone, she had become certain that she was fine on her own.
She stared again at Hunter. But somehow, he had… grown onto her. She had never let someone get close to her in fear of them turning on her for being a wild witch. Yet, the Golden Guard seemed to be deeply interested in Wild Magic; in her. She blushed, shaking off the thought and going back to checking her stands. Her palisman (sound)ed once more.
She looked down at (him/her/it). “Shh. Flapjack might hear you and tell Hunter,” She whispered to it. She glanced back to Hunter for the final time, admiring his features once more and smiling to herself. “Besides, he’s just… nice company to have around. He’s helpful- too. Nothing more…”
The two spent a while in the market, looking around, playing by the stands, and buying what they needed. Hunter had become more comfortable with going out, especially to busier places. Although at the end of the day, he always looked forward to going home with (Y/n). He blushed again as he glanced back at her as she tried to bargain with a demon.
A few stands back, a familiar shape caught Hunter’s eye. The male squinted and stared, feeling uneasy. He quickly recognized the shape and grabbed (Y/n)’s hand.
“(Y/n) we have to go,” He muttered quietly. “I’ll explain on the way but we have to leave now.”
The young witch looked up at the male, ignoring the salesman. She noticed he was staring into the distance and turned to look. (Y/n) gasped, knowing the witches in the market all to well. “Uh- Um… Thank you, here are your snails-” She paid the salesman hastily, grabbed her things, and began to back away from the stand with Hunter.
“Do you think they saw us?” She asked nervously, staring at the ground.
“No, I don’t think they saw us,” Hunter replied as he looked back. “Besides, I don’t think they’d recognize us here with so many-”
A blast of magic erupted beside Hunter, causing him to crouch forward in defense. The two witches snapped around to look at the scouts before them.
“I KNEW IT!” Cried a small demon, “I KNEW IT I RECOGNIZED THAT ANNOYING VOICE!” She pointed directly at Hunter.
(Y/n) turned to face Hunter who was scowling at Kiki Mora’s statement.
“GET THEM!!” Kiki shrieked angrily.
Scouts launched forward causing demons and witches to run in all directions. (Y/n) pulled out her staff and created a circle, casting an abomination spell and pushing the scouts back.
“LET’S GET OUT OF HERE!” She cried out to Hunter. She grabbed his hand and began to run. The two made their way through the market, racing past empty stands and panicked witches.
A sudden shot of magic hit (Y/n), causing her to fall. The young witch fell into a stand and slashed her arm with the rough surface.
Hunter turned to look back and pulled out his staff, standing in front of (Y/n), attempting to protect her. Scouts flooded in from all directions and he eyed them wildly. He began to teleport, hitting random scouts behind the head or zapping spells onto them.
(Y/n) stood up and grabbed her staff, wincing from the pain in her arm. She watched as Hunter fought off scouts and ran forward to join him.
As they beat the last scout, (Y/n) was swarmed with abomination magic.
“Well, well, who do we have here?” Kiki Mora sang, pulling (Y/n) forward. “Oh! You’re that little wild witch everyone has been after. Belos will be happy to see you’re the one responsible for the Golden Guard’s disappearance,” She smiled as she squeezed (Y/n) with the abomination magic.
A flash of golden light struck Kiki’s head, causing her to fall back.
“C’MON!” Hunter shouted as he slashed through the abomination trapping (Y/n). He took her hand and pulled her away, tugging her free of her prison. The two ran forward before boarding their staffs and flying away.
Kiki Mora held her head and closed her eyes painfully. She exhaled heavily and looked up to see the Golden Guard leaving. So he’s with a wild witch. The Emperor will be happy to have him back soon…
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The two had returned to their home, frightened by the attack. By the time they had returned, the night was near and they got ready to end their day. While (Y/n) stored the few things they had gotten from the market, Hunter had disappeared for a bit to “do something”.
The two witches sat around the fire (Y/n) had created. They watched the flames dance and flicker gently with the gentle breeze.
The male shifted around the fire nervously, wondering if it was a good time to bring it up. He glanced over at (Y/n) and blushed, wondering how she would react.
“Ummm… (Y/n)?” He squeaked, eyeing her nervously.
The young witch looked away from the fire and met his eyes. “Mhm?” She hummed, waiting for him to continue.
Hunter sighed nervously, reaching beside him. He hesitated for a moment before he presented (plush’s/name) to (Y/n), blushing madly as he did so. “I- I- know we couldn’t find any witch’s wool today in the market so I thought I could fix (plush’s/name) myself…” He looked away nervously, his blush blazing across his face.
(Y/n) gasped and held her plush in her arms. “(Plush’s/name)! (He/she/it)’s good as new!” She smiled at the horrifying stitches barely holding together her treasured plushie.
She launched herself forward and hugged Hunter tightly. The young witch blushed even more, not knowing what she was doing. He hesitantly put his arms around her awkwardly and smiled, accepting whatever it was she was doing.
After a while, she pulled away, a bright pink dusting her face. “Thank you, Hunter! You don’t know how much this means to me…” She held her plushie in her arms and studied it carefully.
Hunter smiled. “You said it reminded you of better times, right?” He asked, staring happily at his atrocious work.
“Yeah…” She murmured, setting the plush in her lap. “Yeah… before everything went bad…” She reached up her arms, setting her hands over dozens of scars and bruises.
Hunter shuffled next to (Y/n). He glanced at her bruises and scars, feeling helpless as he recalled how she had gotten them. This isn’t fair… she didn’t deserve any of that… Why does he think that wild witches are dangerous? She’s done nothing but help me…
“(Y/n)?” He asked nervously as he mustered up a plan.
(Y/n) raised her head to look at him, “Huh? Oh, yeah?” She murmured, somewhat distracted by her plush.
He glanced back at her scars. “Don’t you know how to do healing magic? I mean… do you know any spells?” He asked curiously.
(Y/n) smiled, “Sure I do,” She replied softly, “Here lemme show you.” She took Hunter’s arm and created a circle with her finger. “Like all magic, we start with a circle. Spells pretty much just come from here but… you need to focus on what you want.” She moved the circle to his arm, hovering over the scrape he had received from the fight. “And you just focus and…” He watched with amazement as his scrape disappeared, healing beautifully and completely. “Done.” (Y/n) took her hands away and smiled at Hunter.
The male blushed slightly, “So you make a circle…” He used his staff to create a small, glowing circle. He breathed nervously, wondering if he should continue.
Hunter sighed and ungloved his hands. He held his staff with one hand and, with the other, he moved the circle to her arm. He brushed his fingertips gently over each darkened bruise, across every scar, slowly healing (Y/n)’s skin. She gasped as she watched all of her pain fade with his touch under the glowing, golden circle. Hunter kept his eyes fixed on her arm as he shifted and moved his hand down, too nervous to look her in the eyes. Despite all the time he had spent with her, he never dared to do more than hold her hand to simply tug her somewhere. He then took her other arm, blushing slightly as he continued to work, refusing to look inter her pools of (e/c).
(Y/n) stared in awe as all of the damage her parents had done disappeared. She had never bothered to heal her own wounds; it was pointless considering she would just receive more from her parents. It was meaningless to try and heal someone so broken, so shattered, so infinitely damaged. (Y/n) had accepted her scars didn’t care whether she remembered how she got them, if she relived every cruel moment. Yet she watched as Hunter erased the reminders of endless pain and suffering she had lived through. Hunter turned her arm over and pressed his fingers gently against a deep gash she had gotten that day. (Y/n) winced slightly but quickly realized that the pain disappeared. Hunter continued to move his hands down as he made every wound fade as he healed her, as he made all of her pain evaporate into nothing. He reached her palm and gently brushed her hand as he lifted his fingers away.
“There,” He whispered softly. “Like that?” He asked gently, looking up to see (Y/n).
She stared back at him with wide eyes, her lips parted slightly. Tears had begun to prickle her eyes as she realized what he had done.
Hunter smiled gently, “Oh, uh, missed a spot…” He murmured as he looked at her. He reached up and cupped her cheek, healing the cut her mother had caused. She flinched slightly but froze as his hand touched her face. His hand was warm and gentle against her cold and scarred face. He carefully traced over her, completely erasing the wound that had been embedded into her so harshly. He stared at her cheek as he worked while (Y/n) gazed into his magenta eyes. She felt her heart racing with anxiety, remembering the moment her mother had slashed her. She closed her eyes gently, chewing her lip as she cried silently, finally allowing the tears to flow. (Y/n) melted into Hunter’s touch, forgetting how her parents had hurt her, that not even her mother had held her like that, that her parents had never bothered to heal even the smallest scratch, that they were the ones responsible for each wound she obtained, that they had never been kind to her. Yet, here was Hunter, the Golden Guard, healing every wound she had: healing (Y/n).
Once the wound healed fully, Hunter pulled his hand away and finally shifted his view and looked at her. “There,” He murmured, “Your skin is beautiful, (Y/n). It deserves to heal and so do you. ”
“I-I, Hunter…,” She stuttered, feeling as if her heart was breaking. No one had ever touched her face the way he had. No one had ever been there when she needed someone. No one had been kind to her… yet Hunter used a spell he could hardly perform to erase her past, to take all of it away, to heal her soul.
She looked at her perfect arms, tracing her fingers over her (s/c) skin. She reached a hand to her cheek and felt the smooth, unharmed face she hadn’t had for years. Tears began to burn her eyes, cascading uncontrollably down her face. (Y/n) looked into Hunter’s eyes, “Oh– HUNTER YOU’RE CRAZY!” She exclaimed, jumping forward and cupping his cheeks.
“What do you mean cra- HEY- Mmmff!” (Y/n) pulled Hunter in, colliding her lips with his, kissing him repeatedly, not thinking or caring about anything. She felt her face burn with a wild blush, her skin burning like the boiling sea. She had fallen for Hunter long before, and he had finally broken her resistance in showing it. Hunter blushed madly, utterly confused and shocked by her actions. He let go of his staff, causing it to wobble and fall to the ground. The staff faded away and Flapjack flew up, setting himself on the windowsill.
(Y/n) pulled away, “Hunter– you’re insane! Why would you do that- why- why,” She tried to stutter something out through her tears. She wanted to ask, to know why he had stayed with her or why he had healed her. She gave up and kissed him again and again, pecking his frozen lips over and over again roughly. “Why did you do that?!” She exclaimed in bewilderment, tears trickling down her face.
Hunter blushed deeply and smiled sheepishly, “Why did you do that?” He murmured, dazed and mildly confused. The bright red spread to his ears as he asked.
(Y/n) laughed through her tears. She pulled him in again and smothered him in kisses. She continued to peck his lips wildly, never settling on a defined kiss. Hunter smiled as he watched her through half-closed eyes. He reached up and gently wrapped his fingers around her wrist, returning her kisses as she placed them on his lips. Her ears bent back slightly as she connected her lips to his over and over.
“Hunter, you’re insane!” She panted, kissing him again and again. “I can’t believe you!” She pulled his face closer to hers and dug her lips into his, finally settling into a kiss. Hunter closed his eyes and tugged on her wrists gently, wishing he could simply fade away into the kiss. He tilted his head, feeling a thousand new emotions he had never known existed. His heart raced with excitement and joy and his ears bent back as he melted away.
(Y/n) finally pulled away after a long while, “You’re crazy!” She exclaimed smiling. She held his face and stared into his eyes, “First you leave the castle, then you ran away with me, and then we ran away from the scouts, and…” (Y/n) stuttered, feeling tears returning to her eyes. “And then you had the audacity to heal my scars!” She muttered happily. She pulled him into another quick kiss. (Y/n) pulled away, leaving barely any room between her and Hunter “You witch, you’re insane!” She dug her fingers into him and kissed him, smiling through her tears.
The male smiled through the kiss and pressed himself closer to her, nearly crushing his nose into her face. Hunter kissed her back, finally giving in to his love for her. (Y/n) furrowed her brows as she pressed her lips passionately against Hunter’s.
(Y/n) pulled away and smiled. She looked into his eyes, creating a magic circle. She pressed it against Hunter’s scarred cheek and waited.
He sighed and shook his head, “Uh-uhh, it won’t work,” He murmured gently. (Y/n)’s circle broke and she looked into his eyes. Hunter pressed her hand against his cheek and looked at her. “That slash was caused by Belos’ outburst… his curse…” He exhaled heavily, “No healing magic can fix it; and it’s too old to be fixed anyways…” He smiled and looked up to (Y/n) who was frowning.
“I wish I could fix it but… It kinda just adds to who you are.” She leaned in and kissed him again. “Hunter?” She asked nervously.
“Yeah?” He replied, staring into her (e/c) eyes.
“I love you, Hunter.”
The young male smiled, blushing as she reached for his cheek again. “I love you, (Y/n),” He murmured, leaning closer to her. He kissed her forehead sweetly, brushing his lips across her skin ever so gently. “I love you, (Y/n).”
The two kissed again and again under the moon, the soft fire lighting up the two entangled witches. They cuddled and kissed in each other's arms, forgetting the world and all of their scars, forgetting that they didn’t belong anywhere except with each other.
 ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter laid in (Y/n)’s arms. A month or so had gone by since they had sat around the fire. He smiled to himself, feeling ecstasy just from being with her.
She smiled to herself, feeling him cuddle closer to her. She kissed the top of his head gently, feeling the gentle warmth of the sun overcome them. Despite having beds inside their cottage, Hunter and (Y/n) loved laying in their hammocks outside, in the same place they had spent their first night together.
Hunter hugged her tightly. “(Y/n)?” He asked nervously, waiting for a response.
“Yeah?” She murmured sweetly, ruffling his hair lightly.
Hunter bit his lip for a moment. “Do you think things will be okay? I mean… Belos keeps saying that the day of unity is near, and the scouts are looking for us…” He broke off as he thought of their last encounter with them in the market.
“I’m not too worried about that,” She said, squeezing him in her arms. Hunter blushed and hid his face in her arms.
“Really? I mean- aren’t you a bit scared of what might happen when the day of Unity comes or if we’re caught?” He asked nervously, squeezing his eyes shut.
(Y/n) smiled and held Hunter close. “I’m not worried about anything as long as we’re together…” She planted a gentle kiss on Hunter’s lips, reassuring him completely.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The two witches wandered around Bonesburough carefully. Ever since their last encounter, they had hesitated in going out anymore. However, due to their lack in materials, they were forced to return to town.
“You’re sure we should even be here,” Hunter murmured nervously as he eyed the stands. He squeezed (Y/n)’s hand as he followed her through the market.
From the distance, a group moved forward, having focused on its target. The leader moved forward carefully, making sure the two witches hadn’t seen them.
Hunter shifted uneasily, knowing they were risking everything by simply going out. He looked around, hoping he wouldn’t see what he feared.
(Y/n) noticed his uneasiness and squeezed his hand gently. “C’mon, don’t worry. Even if they are here, I know we’ll be okay. We fought them off just fine last time,” She reassured him, looking into the male’s bright magenta eyes.
He smiled at (Y/n), blushing lightly. “Okay,” He murmured, “But I still think we should be careful. You never know what type of witches you can run into in these markets…” He looked around at the products before them, walking through the market close to (Y/n).
Suddenly, Flapjack began to chirp wildly, crying out warnings to Hunter. The male snapped around and saw a group of scouts.
“(Y/n)!” He shouted, summoning his staff, “THEY FOUND US!” He pushed her forward and the two began to run through the market, causing the same chaos they had before.
“Oh, not this time you brat!” Kiki Mora shouted, sending a troop of scouts forward.
Hunter dragged (Y/n) through a maze of witches and stands, turning sharply at each obstacle. “We have to get out!” He cried desperately. I can’t let them get her- not now that they know she’s with me-!
(Y/n) turned around to see scouts following closely. She created a circle and summoned a wall of rock to erupt from the ground, blocking the way for the scouts. A sudden blast broke through it, knocking the scouts, (Y/n) and Hunter to the ground.
“OH! NOT THIS TIME GOLDEN GUARD!” Kiki Mora shouted.
ENDING ONE : A Gentle Goodbye
Hunter quickly summoned his staff, breaking through the ooze. “I don’t think so!” He smiled, grabbing onto (Y/n) and teleporting up through the air. He laughed and stared down at Kiki. “Byeeeee!!!” He waved mockingly before disappearing and zipping through the sky.
(Y/n) held tightly onto Hunter, slowly recovering from their encounter. He landed gracefully in front of their cottage, helping (Y/n) down.
“Oh, Titan! That was close,” He said, holding her hands. Flapjack returned to his normal state and chirped happily.
(Y/n) smiled nervously. “Yeah- we… we just need to be a bit more careful…” She murmured.
Hunter smiled. “Don’t worry. They won’t catch us!” He smiled and kissed (Y/n) gently. “I won’t let them get us, I promise.” (Y/n) smiled sadly, looking into Hunter’s eyes.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter slept peacefully in (Y/n)’s arms, holding on tight to her. She laid awake beside him, tears beginning to prickle her eyes as she prepared herself. She carefully rose out of the bed, making sure not to wake up Hunter. He, however, was much too tired to be woken up by anything.
She stood up and placed her plushie in his arms. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around it and hugged it closely. (Y/n) smiled and walked away from the bed. She summoned a piece of paper and scribbled down a short note, leaving it by the window.
(Y/n) grabbed her palisman and looked around, holding back tears as she ran away for the second time, closing the door gently behind her and disappearing into the night.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter woke up, feeling the sun brush his skin. He stirred around in the bed, expecting to see (Y/n). He sat up, confused as to why he was holding her plush and not her.
“(Y/n)?” He called nervously, standing up and looking around. “(Yyyy/nnn)?” He called again, expecting a reply.
Flapjack flew to the window and called over Hunter. “What’s this?” He asked, reaching for the paper under his palisman. He eyed it suspiciously before looking at it.
Hunter trembled as he read (Y/n)’s handwriting.
 Dear Hunter,
I’m sorry I disappeared the way I did. I didn’t want to but, I knew that if I spoke to you in person you’d never let me go.
Hunter I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t want to go but it’s for the best. I can’t be with you. I’m already being followed by scouts. I know you’re running too but you’d be in more danger if you were with me. I’m sorry but I had to do this- for you. I can’t let you be in danger like this. I love you too much to put your life on the line.
You changed my life. You gave me so much hope and love when I was sure nothing waited for me but a grave. Thank you, Hunter- for everything. I’m so sorry I can’t be with you now but… but maybe… Maybe one day in the future, once all of this is over!
Thank you, Hunter. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Please stay safe. I know I didn’t get to spend much time with you but… I know I really loved you. I still do. I love you, Hunter. Stay safe for me, okay? I’ll find you again one day once this is all over. And thank you for fixing my plushie. I want you to keep it, so you can remember me by something until we meet again. I love you.
Love, (Y/n)
Hunter felt tears burn his cheeks as his fingers slightly crumpled the delicate paper. Flapjack chirped worriedly as he looked up to him.
He turned to face the bed, his heart sinking as he looked at (Y/n)’s plush, finally realizing why it had been in his arms.
Hunter swallowed back and controlled his jerking lips. “C-... C’mon, Flapjack…” He said, turning around as tears dripped away. “It’s just us now…”
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
ENDING TWO: Everlasting Regret.
(Y/n) and Hunter were wrapped in abomination goo by a captain behind them. Kiki smiled and glared at the two. “We knew we’d find you here. I had my captain use an illusion spell to hide among the crowd.
(Y/n) turned around and saw the captain in a white cloak, stepping closer to them.
“Belos has been looking all over for you…" She sang, staring down at Hunter. “I bet he’ll be thrilled to see you with a wild witch!”
Hunter gasped, feeling his heart begin to race. “N-no!” He cried, squirming in the goo. “NO! Take me but keep (Y/n) out of this! She hasn’t done anything wrong.” (Y/n) looked back and forth between him and Kiki, wondering what she could possibly do.
Kiki Mora cackled wickedly. “Oh… I’ll be taking you both in-” She laughed again, creating a shield around (Y/n) and Hunter and trapping them inside. “Who knows…” She muttered, turning around. “Maybe a new slot for Golden Guard will open up…”
Hunter’s breath hitched. He felt his blood run cold as he and (Y/n) were dragged away to the castle.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The two witches were brought before the Emperor. He stood before what appeared to be a broken door. He turned as he heard the sound of struggling and saw them.
“Emperor Belos,” Kiki began, bowing before continuing. “I have brought back the Golden and the wild witch who took him in,” She stated, motioning to the two in the orb. The emperor smiled behind his mask and stepped down.
“Very good Kiki Mora. Thank you for returning them to me,” He stared into Hunter’s eyes. “You are dismissed.” Kiki bowed and left.
The orb broke and the two dropped down. Hunter stood up quickly, trying to hide (Y/n) behind him.
“Emperor Belos I can explain!” He cried out in panic, feeling his heart beat unsteadily.
“Hunter, I’m very disappointed in you,” The Emperor muttered, taking off his mask. “You disappeared for more than two months, you ignored your duties and…” He glared at the witch behind him. “And you’ve spent all this time with a wild. Witch.” He spat, glaring hastily.
(Y/n) rose up and blocked Hunter from the Emperor’s view. “Leave him alone! He hasn’t done anything wrong!” She shouted, hiding Hunter away.
The Emperor smirked. “You’re right,” He murmured, “And to keep him on the right path I need to take care of something.” He lifted up (Y/n) and set her across the room with his magic. He sighed, shaking his head. “What a shame it had to come to this.” He stretched his arm and began a spell Hunter knew all too well.
“No, no, no!” Hunter cried, shaking his head violently. “Uncle Belos! PLEASE LET HER GO!” He screamed, lunging forward.
The Emperor snapped around, his arm deforming and stopping Hunter. “Oh, Hunter. Look at what she’s done to you.” He turned back around to face (Y/n). “This is the only way I can make you understand.”
(Y/n) yelped out in pain, feeling her waist numb. “Hunter!” She cried out desperately, staring into his magenta eyes.
“(Y/n)! (Y/N)!!” He sobbed, reaching forward. “(Y/N) I’M SO SORRY!!” Hunter shook his head wildly, watching her die slowly before him.
She began to pant in panic, accepting it was her end. She had always feared petrification. It had been one of the tactics her parents had used to implement fear into her.
And now, here she was. Being petrified for having fallen for the Golden Guard.
“Hunter- no- don’t be sorry,” She positioned her arms, hoping Hunter would later understand. “Listen- you gave me everything I could have ever wanted. Don’t be sorry, please- I could have never been so happy if it hadn’t been for you,” Tears burned her eyes for the last time as she watched Hunter.
The blonde male stared at her, his mouth agape in horror. “No- NO- NO!!” He cried, watching her arms freeze in place. He wanted to save her, to disobey every rule he had ever followed, to take her away and forget the castle and the Emperor. Hunter froze, knowing he could do nothing. He had no magic to save her with. “No, (Y/n)!” He cried again. She’s going to die- because of me. Because I couldn’t stay here and do my job.
She glanced down and smiled bitterly. “Just… promise me you’ll look after (palisman) and (plushie) for me, okay?” She felt her shoulders and neck numb. “And Hunter… Thank you for loving me. I love you too, Hunter.”
Hunter felt his heart sink as he watched her face begin to solidify. “NO! (Y/N)!” He tried to squirm forward and reach her but Belos kept him put. “(Y/N)! (Y/N) I LOVE YOU!!” He cried desperately.
She smiled as she turned to stone, her tears ending suddenly. Hunter collapsed to his knees, trembling violently, tears cascading down his face.
The emperor turned and glared down at him, setting his hand down. “Come now… You have much to catch up on, Hunter…”
Hunter breathed heavily, sniffling as he looked up to (Y/n)’s petrified body, her arms in the form of an embrace and her eyes full of love.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter stared at the petrified witch, reaching for her cold cheek. He rested his forehead on hers. “I’m so sorry, (Y/n)...” He whispered through a broken voice. “This is all my fault- If I hadn’t, ugh...” He sighed, lowering his head more as he felt grief take his strength.
He had returned to the castle hesitantly, longing to return to the cottage he had built with (Y/n). He had managed to take her palisman and plushie. Her palisman had become almost dormant in the days that passed. He sighed again, remembering her face when she saw her plush, wishing he could bring back her glowing, (e/c) eyes.
“I’m sorry, (Y/n). You would still be here if I hadn’t found you. If I hadn’t gotten us caught…” The Golden Guard began to cry, feeling no purpose to his empty life.
A/N: YAY IT’S DONE HAHAHA. Omygosh this took such a long time to get out. I’m trying to catch up on the requests but I take too much time writing. I hope you enjoyed it. Also AO3 deleted it a bunch of times while I tried to post it days ago :(
And just like, a little headcanon or whatever, I wanted to make this one-shot a bit more emotional. I hope it worked lol. Also, in this universe, Hunter feels very conflicted about wild magic and witches, especially after meeting the reader. Just a little random thing. Oneshots will continue to come out, surely but slowly. Thank you so much for requesting and reading!

                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter awoke each morning anxious to see the small thread around his finger. He was curious to where it led, to what it connected him. He’d play with it, and watching it stretch and loom over his hand and tangle between his fingers.
It was the morning of his next mission. He felt his heart beat nervously as he planned how to manage his time. In his last few missions, he hadn’t had the chance to leave and follow the thread as he had hoped, and when he had, he never found where the other end was. The male scanned through the day in his mind, wondering what task he would be given. Hunter knew he would have to go see Belos in the throne room for his mission first. His heart skipped a beat as he remembered the blue glow that had drowned him when he mentioned the thread. Belos had seemed so bothered by it, and then his mood shifted to violently that Hunter couldn’t help but wonder why.
The young male laid in his bed as the rising sun came over him once more. Every morning his first thought was the thread; he had become obsessed with it. In the weeks that passed, he attempted to research it, to discover more of what it was and what it meant. He had very little luck, however. He knew everything within the castle was limited and heavily filtered. Everything Hunter read reflected the Emperor’s goals, his train of thought, or his disgust of wild magic. He began to wonder if the thread had something to do with the forbidden magic after all.
The small palisman bounced onto his chest and chirped lightly. Hunter shifted to look at the little bird and smiled. “Flapjack! I didn’t think you be up, too,” He said surprised. The small bird chirped and bounced closer. He cuddled his owner sweetly, and Hunter couldn’t help but laugh lightly. “I love you too, Flap,” He whispered to him. Hunter knew he was made of wild magic, but he couldn’t make himself believe that something so small and sweet was evil and dangerous.
Hunter sighed, remembering what waited for him. “C’mon, I need to go to Belos. You can stop hiding once I’ve gone outside the castle,” He explained to the small bird. Flapjack replied happily and sang to him. Hunter smiled and pet the bird gently. “Yeah! I’m gonna find out where this thread leads- it’ll be fun!” Flapjack chirped excitedly and flapped his wings. Hunter laughed again as he watched his palisman burst to life.
“Okay, let’s go.”
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
“And, Hunter,” The Emperor turned to him once more, his blue pupils drowning Hunter. “I’m beginning to suspect that you…hmm…” The Emperor turned away thoughtfully, lulling the Golden Guard into the quiet that followed. “I’m beginning to suspect you are not following the Titan’s wish, Hunter. Your last missions have been followed lousily, especially with your new interest in this… thread…”
The Golden Guard resisted flinching in utter fear that any movement would provoke his curse. “Emperor Belos, I apologize. I was only curious about the thread and what it led to. If you would just explain it to me a bit more-”
The male flinched as the Emperor snapped to face him. It had been one of the few times he only turned rather than attacked. And if he did attack, Hunter would be lucky to miss it.
“Hunter, I already told you enough,” The Emperor muttered. “The Titan’s will is not so easy to decipher. If you keep this up, he might even consider replacing you.” A trembling breath escaped Hunter. “Isn’t it enough to know he sees you are valuable enough to connect to him?”
Hunter froze, for a moment, fearing what “replacing” meant. The Golden Guard suddenly jolted as he realized he’d upset the Emperor with his silence. “Yes!” He bowed his head down, “You are right, Emperor Belos.” He didn’t know if he really believed him or himself. “I apologize. I should know better than to doubt you or the Titan and his will.”
The Emperor turned back to him, smiling behind the horned mask. “Your obedience makes the Titan very happy, Hunter,” The Emperor stepped down from his throne and stood infront of the Golden Guard. “Remember, please the Titan and you will have his approval.” The young male infront of him smiled, “Now, for your mission.” The Emperor turned back around. “I have heard rumors of an attempt to invade my mind with wild magic…”
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
“If you happen to find the witch that is on the other end of that thread…” Belos looked up at the shadow, examining the childish figure carefully. “I want to know who they are and where they are. We won’t have much of a choice except to kill them to keep them out of our way and Hunter in line.”
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The young witch wandered around the Night Market carefully. They were aware that being out at such an hour was risky, especially with the sketchy trades and witches. They walked through the path of the market, passing stall after stall, shop after shop.
(Y/N) circled around several of the stands. They admired some of the products they had found. They were examining some clothing when their eyes were drawn to the small, red thread tied to their pinky.
Their heart melted into a million anxieties as they realized the thread had shrunken drastically. They backed away hastily from the stand of clothes. What? Are they here? They began to look around the market desperately. There was a small crowd of people in all directions. They examined a few witches back away from Eda the Owl Lady. They smiled to themselves, admiring the woman for a moment. (Y/N) was a wild witch themself; they refused to be bound by the sigils of the Emperor. They laughed lightly at the other witches backing away.
After a moment they looked back to the thread. It seemed rather taught, unlike the other weeks they had seen it. They took in a deep breath, anxious for what awaited them, and made their way through the marketplace, following the thead.
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The Golden Guard marched through the night market. He had been approached by a demon attempting to trade his teeth. Gross… no wonder that’s illegal…
The masked male continued down the market, looking around carefully for any sign of suspicious activity. Hah… everyone here is suspicious. I’m saying that as if someone didn’t just try to take my teeth… ewwww… He shivered for a moment, groaning before continuing through his mission.
As the Golden Guard made his way, he passed a witch that seemed… familiar. He glanced at them for a moment. They were too distracted to notice him, it was almost as if they were looking for someone. The Golden Guard laughed lightly seeing how tense the witch was. He continued on his way and approached a stand of clothing. Before he could even look at the clothing, Hunter froze. The thread.
 The thread.
They’re here! They’re here!
The Golden Guard snapped around and began to search anxiously. After a few moments, he paused and collected himself. No, Belos said it connected me to the Titan. My next mission was to stop the invasion… He went over his plan for a moment, maybe it’ll lead me to the witches attempting it! The male perked up with excitement and began to follow the thread.
As he made his way through the market, he realized how it suddenly stretched or became taught. Weird… I thought this would be easier. The male glanced down at his pinky often, following the tangled thread through the market.
He circled around the same few stands when he suddenly saw three hooded figures. Two of the figures were tall and the third was a much smaller cloaked figure. As he examined them, he searched for a thread linking them to him. After a few moments, The Golden Guard realized that the thread didn’t connect to them. His heart sank with disappointment. Oh… He watched them as they crept through the market carefully and approached an alley, scanning the area behind them, careful no one was to follow. The Golden Guard hesitated in following them. No, no, why would the thread lead me here if it’s not them? As he watched, he realized just how careful they were. No, they’re too suspicious NOT to be up to something.
As the Golden Guard juggled his options, a witch began to make their way through the market. They glanced from their pinky to an invisible trail that any other being would be unable to see. They followed it carefully, retracing their steps to a stand they had been to not long before. From the corner of their eye, they watched a white figure move further away, one that had been circling the market just as much as they had.
The witch shook off the thought, watching the thread tangle and twist before them. As they walked farther and farther from the stand, they suddenly realized that the thread looped and led a trail opposite of the direction they were going in. The witch approached the loop and froze. They’re behind me, somewhere in this market. They’re close!
The witch snapped around, desperately scanning the marketplace before them. They looked over each witch, each demon, each stand in the market, hoping to see the soft glimmer of the red thread. As they watched over the market, their eyes darted to a cloaked figure in white, his back facing the young witch. They froze, denying that it did lead to him.
“No-” They stumbled back, “No no no no,” They shook their head aggressively as they watched the cloaked figure loom over the corner of a stand and look into an alleyway. Tears began to sting their eyes like boiling rain. “The Golden Guard?! My soulmate is that stuck-up brat?!!” They exclaimed furiously. As much as they wished, they couldn’t deny it: The red thread of fate was tied around the Golden Guard’s pinky, and the other end was tied to (Y/N)’s. They turned hastily, stumbling through the marketplace, and began to run, to flee from the guard. Soulmate or not, I’m not going to be dragged away to Belos for a red thread.
The Golden Guard turned suddenly and searched behind him, weird, I thought I was called. As he examined the area behind him, he watched the thread stretch out and away from him, untangling and leading a new trail. His heart sank as he watched it.
 Oh….
His grip tightened around the pole he supported himself with. Had the villains gotten away? Or had he let someone far more important leave without a trace? The young male clung to the post and watched the thread. He sighed, his head hanging down for a moment before he swiftly turned and followed the three figures into the alley.
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
They huddled in their bed furiously, tears burning their eyes. (Y/N) stared at the thread on their pinky with disgust. “You really couldn’t do any better, could you?!” They muttered through gritted teeth. “UGH! Of all things- of all the witches and demons on these damned isles- it just HAD to be THE GOLDEN GUARD?!” They collapsed onto their bed in frustration. They scoffed angrily, tears soaking their soft sheets. (Y/N) laughed half-heartedly, “Lemme guess,” they muttered to the thread, “He’s gonna ask me out to join the Emperor’s Coven- OH! OH! ‘Hey, I have FRONT ROW SEATS to a PETRIFICATION ceremony- wanna be my date?!”
Why did I even think I stood a chance with anyone?
“Augh!” (Y/N) cried out in disgust as they turned onto their stomach, hiding away their face in a drenched pillow. They looked to the thread once more, thinking back to the cloaked figure in white. The young witch collapsed deeper into their bed, “Why did it have to be you?” They murmured quietly. “Why did it have to be him?” Their arms squeezed the pillow beneath them. “Am I really this hopeless?” They fidgeted with the frail thread on their pinky and sighed. “Even if he wasn’t so snobby… he’s the Golden Guard. He wouldn’t look at me twice if I begged.”
(Y/N) sighed, “In the end, I’m just another wild witch he’d carry off to a petrification ceremony, whether he’d like it or not…” They laughed lightly. “Even if he did give me a chance, if we had a chance at all, there’s no way the Emperor would just let him walk out with me like that.” (Y/N) shuffled again, resting their face onto a pillow warm with tears. Drops of burning acid still leaked from their eyes, gently, slowly, and continuously.
They had accepted being alone, they had accepted being meant for no one but themself. Now, however, they struggled to accept that someone was out there, someone they were meant for. And that someone was the highest ranking witch in all of the isles after the Emperor. The one person that was meant for them was nearly impossible to even imagine being with. Every odd possible was against them. From the snarkiness of the Golden Guard to the forbidden wild magic (Y/N) loved and practiced. Every bit of the two conflicted drastically with the other. It was simply impossible for the two to be together.
(Y/N) glanced at the thread for a moment and smiled, “I bet he doesn’t even know what a soulmate is…”
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Weeks had gone by since the night of (Y/N)’s discovery. They walked through Bonesburrough and began to make their way to the marketplace. They kept their head low, not caring much about what went on around them. Finding out that the Golden Guard was their soulmate had been the biggest disappointment of their life yet.
They decided to go to the market place to distract themselves rather than actually buy anything. They didn’t have the need for something and simply wished to get their mind off of their troubles.
Across the market place and awkward blonde shuffled around people and dodged incoming witches. He looked around anxiously, wondering if he had even made a good choice coming to such a crowded place. Someone might recognize me- I shouldn’t have come… He knew, however, he had the need to come to the marketplace. He was down on supplies and didn’t know how much longer he’d make it without them.
He had run away weeks ago when after he realized what the Emperor’s true intentions were. Every day he would glance back at the thread around his finger and question what it was, wondering if it possibly led a trail the Emperor would follow. He shuddered, hoping it wouldn’t connect him to Belos.
“(Y/N)! You’re under arrest for the practice of wild magic!” A sudden shouting broke through the crowd.
Hunter turned in panic, feeling the name was slightly familiar, but knowing for certain that it was the voice of the Captain. He scanned the marketplace in the direction he heard the shouting from, stumbling back.
(Y/N) turned to see a swarm of scouts led by their Captain. “Oh, nooooo,” They groaned. They made a large circle and pushed it forward, casting a quick but powerful spell. They watched the scouts topple back, covering themselves with their arms for protection.
The young witch scoffed at them, turning around swiftly and running down the marketplace. Witches jumped back at the sight of the fleeing witch, hurling themselves back against the stands. (Y/N) charged down the street, seeing a blonde male frozen in place, in utter terror. He wasn’t staring at them, but at what was chasing them. They turned for a moment to see the scouts gaining on them, casting different spells attempting to halt (Y/N).
“Stop! I command you to stop! You are under arrest!” The Captain shouted desperately.
(Y/N) turned back and kept running. The blonde stepped back slightly but he couldn’t seem to move as (Y/N) approached him.
In a split second, they grabbed his arm and tugged him with them, “C’mon! We need to get out of here!” They shouted, running towards the woods. (Y/N) turned again for a moment and cast an illusion with their free hand, causing the scouts to turn and follow the illusion away. (Y/N) turned to face forward again as they dragged the male with them.
“Where are we going?!” He cried out in panic, barely keeping up with the witch.
“We’ll be okay! Just hold on!” They gripped his hand as they trampled red grass and jumped over fallen trees.
They slowed as they approached a small clearing. The witch stopped at a tree and let go of the male, peaking back at the direction they had come from.
“Okay, I think we lost them,” They breathed heavily for a moment, trying to catch their breath. “Sorry to drag you with me, I thought you wanted to get away from them, too,” They explained.
The blonde had collapsed on the ground, panting as he tried to catch his breath. “No- no… it’s….” He wheezed slightly, closing his eyes as he tried to breathe. “It’s cool…” His chest rose heavily as he inhaled. “Thanks for getting me out of there…”
(Y/N) panted as they leaned against a tree, “Yeah… of course… no problem…” They began to breathe steadily, “They should be gone in a while… we’ll be fine.”
The young witch slumped against the tree and slid down to the ground, crossing their legs as they sat. They watched the male splayed out before them and laughed lightly.
(Y/N) smiled to themselves for a moment and began to play with their hands. They watched a small thread loom across their fingers and over their lap, seeming slightly tighter than usual. They furrowed their brow thoughtfully, wondering why it had shrunken. That doesn’t make any sense, he’s the only one with me right now…
They looked over at the male.
 They froze.
“Wait-” They took his hand and stared at the thread tied to his finger, “You- You have the thread!”
“Huh?” He replied, opening his eyes and looking at them.
(Y/N) stared at the male in shock. They had seen him. No- they had met him. He was the Golden Guard, Belos’ right hand, the teen prodigy. The thread had tied them to the highest ranking scout, to the Golden Guard they detested so much.
Yet they met him as a scruffy boy on the streets. Exhausted, hungry, afraid, and alone. They had offered him everything he lacked and his eyes had gleamed with tears at their offer. They never saw him after that night, yet the next morning a red thread was wrapped around their finger like a present.
Their heart melted as they stared at the male before them. This wasn’t the same stuck-up brat they thought he was. This was a sweet and starved boy. (Y/N) continued to examine his hand and the male, looking over and realizing they remembered each detail. His hair was as golden as the sun and his mask. He was covered in nicks and scars from head to toe. One scar from his cheek was rather larger. A piece from his left ear almost seemed to have chipped off. (Y/N) watched him and blushed lightly realizing he had a rather handsome face. His eyes were a deep magenta, the same magenta they had fallen for the night they met.
“Hunter-” They called his name.
The male rose up in surprise, ignoring his name. His eyes were fixed on the thread around his finger that looped around the witch. “Finally! Someone who can see it!” He exclaimed excitedly, “Y’know, I was starting to think I was crazy! No one could see the thread- and I couldn’t even find a book about it, or a scroll or anything really-” He went on, waving his hands excitedly.
“Hunter-”
“And every time I asked someone they looked at me funny. No one seemed to know what I was talking about. And Belos just said ‘The Titan has BIG plans for you!’ OoOooOh” He mimicked mockingly, wiggling his fingers exaggeratedly.
“Hunter-”
“And you know what? I went around and around the isles chasing this thread! I had no idea what it would even lead to- I still haven’t figured out what it is, or what it’s for-”
“Hunter! Look!” They held out their hand to the male, their palm open. He looked at them with slight confusion before looking down. As he examined it, he realized that the thread was tying him to the witch. Both of their pinkies were connected by the red thread.
Hunter stared at the thread and flinched back hastily, “W-wait! I…” He huddled away from (Y/N). He stared at them with confusion and tears began to gleam in his eyes. “I want to know what this is- what this… really is…” He looked back to the thread unsure of everything. “I want to know the truth.”
Hunter looked back to the thread worriedly, “I heard…” He sighed, “I was told by Belos that this thread didn’t lead anywhere. He said it connected me to The Titan and that it was just a reminder… my connection to him and his plans for me…” He set his head on his knees and looked over to them. “I don’t know what it is… what it… really is. All I know is that it’s here now and it’s connecting me to you,” He murmured softly. Hunter sighed and looked up at them, “I want to know what this is and why it’s connecting us.”
(Y/N) looked at him awkwardly. They were confused but as they kept examining him, they began to realize what was wrong, why he was confused. They had met him both in and out of uniform. This was the same male they had met and the same Golden Guard they had fled from. (Y/N) began to piece together his understanding as they watched him. Hunter had been lied to and manipulated his entire life: he didn’t know what a life was, what life was at all, and what laws the world was bound by. All he had ever learned were Belos commands and expectations, and the punishments that followed if they weren’t obeyed.
(Y/N) blushed awkwardly as they watched him, feeling a sudden nervousness overcome them. “S-sure…. Sure, yeah…” Should I even tell him? He doesn’t even remember me…
They hesitated, unsure of how or what to say. What if Hunter took it badly and believed he was really bound to an unchangeable fate, that he could never choose the life he wanted? And what if he decided that he didn’t want to be with (Y/N)? What would happen then?
“Here, give me your hand…” They held out their hand and invited Hunter to place his over theirs. He stared at the witch before him and skeptically placed his hand on theirs. Hunter gasped as he watched the thread glow slightly and shrink.
“What- what is this?” He asked in bewilderment.
(Y/N) sighed, “This… is the red thread of fate. This thread is meant to unite soulmates to each other. The thread links to both beings, tying around the pinky of each person. The thread is meant to be a sort of… path so that you can… always find your partner…”
Hunter stared at them. “And… what exactly is a soulmate?” He asked, looking back up to them. “If heard of it be described but… vaguely.”
(Y/N) felt even more worry wash over them. He doesn’t even know… He doesn’t understand any of it.
“It’s…” They sighed nervously. “It’s… soulmates are two people who are meant for each other. They’re meant to be each other’s life partners. They…” (Y/N) tried to think of a way to explain it to him. “Soulmates are kinda just two people who are meant to be together- it’s kinda complicated-”.
Hunter’s eyes began to tear up with the relief of knowing Belos had lied. “I… I would have never expected to…” Hunter’s voice cracked as he tried to explain. He laughed half-heartedly. “I had heard of so many different things… Someone mentioned the soulmate thing but- I didn’t think it was true!” He took his hand away from (Y/N)’s and placed it on his lap.
“Well, why not?” (Y/N) asked nervously, watching the red glow fade away.
Hunter thought for a moment, “I was made by Belos. I was forced to be here. I’m not a witch and I’m not a human. I’m a Grimwalker,” He admitted quietly. “I’m just… here.” Hunter looked back to his hand and then to (Y/N)’s. “I would have never expected that fate would have let me have a soulmate…” He glanced over at the thread tied to (Y/N)’s pinky.
They felt their heartbreak at Hunter’s words. They didn’t know how he felt about the truth, or if he was okay with being (Y/N)’s soulmate.
(Y/N) reached for Hunter’s hand and placed theirs over his gently. “Hunter… look. It doesn’t matter how you came to be. We’re… we’re all here and we’re all alive.” Hunter looked back up at them as tears trickled down his cheek.
“How can you be so sure? How- how do you know we’re really leading to each other for… this?” He blushed fiercely as he motioned to (Y/N)’s hand. Hunter slumped back onto the ground, confusion and frustration muddling in his mind. He placed his hands over his eyes as he thought. “Why… why are you so sure? Why…” He opened his eyes as doubt suddenly flooded him, doubt he would have never dared to expressed in the castle. “…Why are you fighting for me?” He asked, looking back at (Y/N) with pleading eyes.
(Y/N) blushed again at Hunter’s question. They hadn’t even realized how hard they were pushing to keep him, to make him understand what the thread was, to make him see past it.
“I-I…” They searched for an answer in their mind but couldn’t find one. If they said they loved him, would he believe it? He didn’t even recognize them. If they said it was for the string, would he become frustrated by fate's boundaries? That even outside of the castle life was limited? If they said they didn’t know…would he give up on himself completely?
“Tell me,” Hunter said, getting onto his elbows and looking at them. “I want to know: Why are you fighting for me? You don’t even know me and you’re already trying to keep me with you!” (Y/N) was petrified. Their hands trembled violently as their mind flooded. Hunter was unsure of how they had gotten his name, but he recalled the witch’s name from the market. “(Y/N), tell me.” The young male was becoming desperate for an answer. His eyes began to well up with tears again. “(Y/N)!” Hunter demanded as he sat up, frustration overwhelming him completely.
“I-...” They remained silent, unsure of what to say.
“(Y/N)!! TELL ME!!” Hunter barked his demand as his tears spilled. He gritted his teeth furiously at himself. (Y/N) closed their eyes and covered their mouth with their hand. How could they lie to him after everything he had gone through? Another lie and Hunter could possibly waste away.
Hunter began to whimper lightly, seeing that they wouldn’t answer. “(Y/N)-....” He cried, looking away briefly. “(Y/N), please, it’s killing me- please…” Hunter gripped the red grass below his hand. “Why are you fighting for me, (Y/N)? Hunter begged them for an answer. He could feel his heart tearing apart with each moment of silence. “If anything you should be trying to get away from me! Don’t you know I’m the Golden Guard?! I’ve worked with Belos my whole life- doesn’t that upset you?!” He shouted, flicking his hand at them. “Why would you even WANT To be with ME?!”
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“I-I-...” (Y/N) mumbled behind their hands but they couldn’t form a true answer. What could they possibly say when they knew they had nothing to tell him? And even if they did have something to tell him, he didn’t recognize them. He didn’t remember (Y/N).
Heartbreak escaped Hunter with a light, pathetic sob. His brows furrowed as he watched (Y/N) curl into an empty ball. “(Y-)... (Y/n)...” Tears burned his face like boiling rain. His eyes widened in despair. “You don’t know, do you?” He muttered lightly.
(Y/N) snapped around to look at Hunter, “NO! NO- I- I- of course I know!” They protested desperately. (Y/N) looked to their hands and then at Hunter’s. “Of course I know! I just- I- I don’t know how to tell you!” Tears trickled down their face.
“(Y/N), THEN TELL ME!” Hunter pleaded again, the pain of his voice flooding the entire forest.
The witch grunted with frustration and pulled their hands from their face. “BECAUSE I’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR YOU!” (Y/N) yelled at him. The male flinched back at their response, tears trickling down his cheek and falling on the ground below. “B-because-.... Because-” (Y/N) clawed at their face again before tearing their hands away. “Because I’ve been searching for you!” They cried helplessly. They turned away hastily as Hunter watched with wide eyes. “I-I…” (Y/N) aggressively rubbed their tears from their face. “I didn’t even know if you were out there…” The witch hugged themself as they confessed years of pain. “I didn’t even know if you were really out there. I had gone all over these Isles and not once did I ever see a damn thread leading me to anyone!" They cried in disgust.
Hunter watched them as tears dripped away from his own face. His lips had parted slightly but just enough to where the small gap between his teeth was visible.
“I didn’t even care anymore! This damn thing was there for everyone except me- so I gave up and I moved on…”  They hunched over their knees, more tears trickling down their face.
“But then,” Their tone shifted, becoming slightly lighter, “But then I saw you at the market,” (Y/N) turned to look at Hunter and laughed lightly. “You looked so helpless, how I could I have possibly refused to help you?” A visible confusion spread across Hunter’s face as he processed what they said.
He blushed suddenly, remembering the night of a mission gone wrong.
                                                            …
Hunter walked through the streets of Bonesburrough, hoping to waste enough time to where he wouldn’t have to see the Emperor until morning. Unless he’s eager to see me, then I’m screwed. Hunter swallowed hard, already imagining the furious blue light emitting from the Emperor's eyes. He picked up his pace and began marching his way into the Night Market, hoping he could set his mind to some ease.
Hunter wasn’t wearing his uniform. His mask was off and he could feel the gentle breeze against his face. Flapjack popped onto his shoulder and chirped to him. “Flapjack! Hey buddy,” He reached for his shoulder and pet the bird gently on the head. “I’m just… walking around. I’m not ready to go back… not empty-handed.” The red cardinal chirped worriedly. “I know. I WILL go back but… not yet,” He replied quietly. The palisman chirped again, hoping to make him feel better.
The young witch had become so distracted by his palisman, he didn’t even realize where he was going. As Hunter continued to speak to Flapjack, he rammed into a witch walking past.
“Oof!” He cried as he fell back. Flapjack cried out for his companion and glided down to his side.
“Oh! I’m so sorry! Are you alright?!” A young witch kneeled to his side, scanning over the blonde male.
“I’m so sorry!” Hunter cried out. “I didn’t see where I was going! I-” Hunter stopped as he looked to the witch before him. He sat up slowly without looking away from them. They had bright (e/c) eyes that stood out on their (s/c) face. A few strands of (h/c) hair decorated their face and swayed gently with the breeze of the night.
“I umm…” Hunter hesitated for a moment as he watched them hold out their hand. He glanced down at it with disbelief, tears beginning to prickle his eyes. Very rarely someone offered to help him. He took the witch’s hand and they helped him up. “Thank you,” He murmured gently.
(Y/N) stared at the male before them. He was about their age but seemed… somehow older or more mature. As they examined him, they realized why: he was exhausted and overworked. The male had dark bags under his eyes, his face was covered in small scratches and nicks, and there was a large scar that started at his cheek and ended at his chin. (Y/N) stared in disbelief at the child soldier before them. His hair was a beautiful golden color that faded into a murky grey as it neared his ears and neck. Although beautiful, his hair was horribly messy. (Y/N) continued to look at him, realizing just how hurt he was.
“Hey, are you okay? You look exhausted!” They looked over the male before them.
A small, red, bird palisman hopped onto his shoulder and began to chirp. He glanced at the bird, “Huh?” He murmured, incredibly disoriented. “Oh! Uh… yes, I’m fine, it’s just been a long day and I thought I would spend some time in the…” He looked around for the banner and squinted, “Niiiight  Maarkeet…?”
(Y/N) glanced at the banner and then back to him. “You’re sure you should be out here? Look, you don’t look well enough to even be standing-  and someone might try to hurt you.”
He blushed in embarrassment, flinching back slightly at their words. “Yes, I just… wanted to get some fresh air,” He turned around and crossed his arms. The exhaustion in his body seeped out in his words.
The young witch sighed, “Well, at least lemme help you. You look like you could use someone’s help.” The male snapped around and stared at the witch. If he were to walk through the castle in the state he was in, all he would get would be a handful of snickers and comments. No one would bat an eye or offer to help him.
But they were… trying to help him.
“What?” He asked in confusion.
“Here, just,” They took his hand and began to lead him through the market. Their first stop was at a food stand where he excitedly picked out a meal he recognized, knowing exactly how he wanted it prepared. (Y/N) laughed and continued by ordering their own food, and paying for both. The duo ate and chatted for a while, passing by stands and snickering about sketchy products. They walked down the streets, looping around a few times while (Y/N) finished their food. As they barely finished with their tray, (Y/N) noticed just how quickly the male had finished his meal. They thought for a moment and assumed he must have been really hungry to order so eagerly and finish so quickly.
(Y/N) then led the male to another food stand that they liked. The male glanced at it and realized with much embarrassment just how famished he was. The young witched urged for him to get another meal, to which he bashfully accepted.
“Oh, I’ll get something, too, don’t worry about it,” (Y/N) insisted. The male blushed lightly and nodded, proceeding to follow them into the line. Once their turn came, (Y/N) watched the male order another whole tray of food, while they grabbed a light snack. After they waited for a bit, the two received their food and went off to a corner where they ate together.
They sat at the edge of the street and watched the crowd of witches and demons. They were surprised to see him dig in just as eagerly while they thoughtfully ate their food. (Y/N) studied the male as he watched the crowd… cautiously. He almost seemed to flinch at each stranger that passed, and then he’d bend his ears back as if in shame.
“Hey, man, are you… alright? You look… uneasy.”
“Yes! I’m fine I just…”
He dropped his food back onto the tray as he stared forward in utter terror, his ears bending back like a cowarding dog. (Y/N) watched him for a moment before turning and scanning the direction he was looking at.
“Oh- noooo!” They groaned, their shoulder’s slumping in annoyance. They stood up quickly, “C’mon, get your food- we need to hide for a bit.” The male continued staring forward until he snapped back to look at them. He grabbed his tray and (Y/N) helped him up.
The scouts from the Emperor’s coven began to make their way through the night market, identifying random witches and scanning over stands. (Y/N) carefully led the male through a small walkway behind stands and toward an alley. “Stay, quiet, and don’t draw any attention to yourself,” They murmured quietly, leading him through the dimly lit streets. They finally arrived at the alley they were heading to. (Y/N) gently pushed the male further into the alley and out of sight. The young witch then peaked out of the corner and watched the scouts. “Oh, damnit… They brought the warden this time…” They grumbled.
“The warden?” Hunter squeaked nervously. His palisman flew onto his shoulder and chirped nervously. The male looked at him, “Shh! Please! If I get caught, I at least want you to stay safe! Don’t let them see you!” He cried out to his companion.
The young witch turned and laughed lightly. “Ah! A wild witch too, eh? No wonder you freaked out when you saw them…” They smiled at him. They turned back around to set their hands onto the wall and watch from the safety of the corner.
The Golden Guard blushed madly… Wait… too??
“Wait! You’re a-” He stared at them in shock and terror. He had let a wild witch lead him to safety.
“What?” They asked, “I thought surely you’d be a wild witch. I mean, you have a palisman- do you even know how hard it is to get one of those these days?” They walked back toward him and motioned to the cardinal on his shoulder. “Besides, you were just as scared of those scouts as I was.”
“I… I was…” He admitted nervously, crumpling the paper tray in his hand.
“Hey,” They put a hand on his shoulder, “They should be gone in about fifteen minutes, we’ll be okay.”
The male attempted to smile but an awkward, “Eeee…” was all he managed to reply with. The young witched laughed again as they passed him and sat in the corner of the alley. The male stood in place for a moment before proceeding to follow them.
He approached the young witch nervously, unsure whether he was safer out there or with them.
Do I really have much of a choice?
He reluctantly sat beside them: not too close and not too far. The young witch watched him, noticing his discomfort, and sighed. “Listen, for whatever reason you have to wanna hide from them- don’t worry about it. You’ll be safe with me… even in this… gross… dingy alley…” They murmured, motioning to their surroundings. The male watched them for a moment and laughed, relaxing again.
He glanced back at his food, feeling his appetite return. He picked up what he had dropped and proceeded to eat. “Thank you, ummm…”
“Oh, me? I’m (Y/N),” they replied. He watched them for a moment. Of course they seemed familiar, they were one of the wild witches on the posters.
“Oh, well… thank you, (Y/N),” He said softly, continuing to finish his second meal of the night. He didn’t realize how hungry he had been. The male hesitated for a moment, wondering if what he wanted to do was right. “My name… is Hunter…” He murmured softly, continuing to eat.
“Well, Hunter, it was a pleasure to spend the night with you- and run away from those scouts.” Hunter laughed lightly at their reply. He looked at (Y/N)’s wrists and then at his. The leather gloves on his hands were the only thing keeping his sigil out of sight.
“Well, thank you, (Y/N)... for everything…” He set his empty tray to the side and rested his hands on his crossed lap.
(Y/N) looked back at the anxious male. “Hey, don’t worry about it,” They assured. He looked back to the young witch, “You still look really tired though- if you need a place to stay… you can come with me,” They offered. “You can rest for a while and get away from those jerks,” The two looked back at the scouts who seemed to be leaving. “You can crash my place for as long as you’d like, I wouldn’t mind the extra company.”
He stared at the witch in disbelief, tears beginning to prick his eyes. “I-... Thank you, but, I have a home to return to.” If he spent any more time out, he was sure Belos would become furious. But it was late enough to where he could go straight to his room. “Thank you, really,” He felt his heart break slightly as he thought of the offer. No one ever offered to help him, not even the scouts would offer to let him spend time with them. Not even his Uncle would dare to let him spend so much time with him. “Thank you, but I need to go, really.”
(Y/N) watched as he rose and they stood up with him. “You’re welcome, Hunter,” The male looked at them at the sound of his name. “I’m happy we met.”
The male blushed slightly. Usually when people met him, it seemed to be the pinnacle of their misery. But… they were happy?
“Oh… well…” He fidgeted for a moment, “I’m… glad, too.” He began to step away from them and toward the edge of the alley. (Y/N) followed Hunter as they crept out into the open.
The two watched the crowd, making sure no scouts remained in the market. Hunter hesitated for a moment again and sighed. “Thank you, (Y/N),” He murmured.
“Hey, I already said: don’t worry about it,” It was strange how much he had thanked them. “I’m sure I’ll see you here again someday. I’m usually here, causing trouble.” Hunter smiled and laughed again.
“Then, I guess I will see you again.” He smiled to them one more before backing out into the open. “Goodbye, (Y/N),” He murmured softly.
They smiled and waved gently, “Goodbye, Hunter.”
And with that, the male disappeared back into the market, back into the swarm of customers and out of sight.
                                                              …
Hunter blushed and his ears bent back again. He looked away uneasily, unsure of what to do or what to say.
“I didn’t know it was you then,” (Y/N) murmured as they collected themself. “I just saw you and… I wanted to help you… I didn’t even think this would happen,” They motioned to the thread tying the two together.
“You…” He whispered. “(Y/N) it was… it was you that night…”
They sighed and looked over at him. He had finally remembered. They played with their fingers again, “And then I saw you with the thread for the first time- I ran away.” (Y/N) fidgeted awkwardly, “You were in uniform and I-... I was angry it was you. I didn’t know it was you, Hunter. I just- I saw the Golden Guard and… I ran…” They rubbed a few more tears away from their face.
Hunter scoffed, “Hey, I would have run from the Golden Guard, too, if I were you.” (Y/N) looked over at him and laughed lightly. He smiled and looked into their eyes, “I mean, we ran from the Warden and his scouts, why not the Golden Guard too?” He slumped back against the tree as he motioned with his hands.
(Y/N) sighed and looked away again. “And I didn’t know it was you either, now, when we were running from the scouts… again… You were in my way and you looked scared so… I dragged you down with me.” They plucked some of the blades of red grass from the ground.
(Y/N) sniffled, “Hunter, I… I didn’t… I didn’t know it was you- I didn’t even see the thread then- I didn’t see it until after that night!” They exclaimed worriedly.
He turned to them, tears in his eyes. “It was you… all this time…” Hunter stared at them with wide eyes, slowly processing everything. He looked away with sudden disgust, “He lied to me-” He muttered through gritted teeth, “All this time… he was lying…” His eyes shifted wildly as he stared off in thought. “He was… trying to keep me away from you…”
“Hunter, I don’t care that this… thread is what’s tying us together. I… I know it’s confusing but… I’m… I’m just glad I found you again,” (Y/N) hesitated for a moment before slowly reaching out to Hunter, holding their arms out for him. The young male shifted slowly and looked over at the witch before him. His eyes continued to gleam with tears, glimmering in the soft rays of the setting sun. He looked from (Y/N)’s arms to their eyes. (Y/N) flexed their fingers slightly, inviting him into the safety of their embrace.
A cry of helplessness broke out deep within the male and his shoulders jerked. He reached slowly for them, creeping slowly, closer to the warmth he never knew. He coiled back suddenly, wondering if any of it was right, if it was true at all.
He didn’t know how many paths he could take, he was unsure of everything, and from the look of (Y/N)’s eyes, he could tell they were just as unsure. He understood if he went back to the castle, whether by choice or by force, the only thing waiting for him was an empty portrait in Belos' mind waiting for him to fill it: a tangle of roots dragging his mask into the ground and his last moments of life forever engraved into the Emperor’s mind. If he ran from (Y/N), then what waited for him? A thread calling to him evermore, begging for him to return? The constant reminder he had a chance, a true purpose with someone? And what if he chose to follow the thread?
It’s not a choice, is it? I’ve never had a choice, have I?
The boy coiled back further, his arms pulling into his chest.
I’ll never get to choose who I am, will I?
The witch coiled back.
No, what am I?
It coiled back. A million unknown emotions running over it. It wasn’t a witch, and it wasn’t human. It wasn’t even a demon. It was a creation of unknown origin, an inexplicable abomination. It had been used for years to carry out a job that had come to it as the false promise of purpose, of true meaning. It knew now that none of that was true.
Then what was it before him? The illusion of free will and choice?
No.
“How are you so sure you want this? To be with me? Not even I understand what I am.” The Grimwalker muttered gently.
The witch rested their arms on their knees. They had become sore from the offer of their embrace.
“I… told you already…” They murmured, looking away from the male. “I don’t care what you are or how you got here. Hunter, please, listen.” They held their hand out but the male refused and look away. (Y/N) sighed, “Look, I know this is difficult for you to take in. It is for me, too. I don’t know what you’ve gone through, and I can’t even imagine how much pain you must be in right now.”
It flinched with the burning memories of failure and endless punishments; Of demands upon demands with no gratitude or acknowledgment to follow; Of the discovery that its life was not more than the greed and need of a wicked being.
“Hunter?” It perked slightly.
No. I am someone.
He turned to the sound of the name he had been given. The name he carried as a burden for the entirety of his life. In that moment it was no longer a burden or a harsh reprimanding but an invitation. A warm, kind invitation to a life he had always longed for.
“Hunter I know this must be difficult to take in. I-...” (Y/N) trailed off again. “It’s been hard for me, too. I mean, I didn’t even know I would have a soulmate and you didn’t even know what a soulmate would be. You didn’t know this was how… fate…” They fidgeted with their hands, watching the male.
“Look what I just want to say- what I want you to understand is…” They breathed out anxiously again, wondering if he would accept them. “You don’t have to be with me. But if you want, we can start a new life, together.”
Hunter’s eyes widened as he turned to (Y/N). He relived the moment they had offered their help to him in that instant.
“What?” He asked gently, tears beginning to stream steadily.
“Hunter, you don’t have to do any of this if you don’t want to. I know this whole ‘soulmate’ concept must be new to you, but you don’t have to abide by it.”
I do have a choice.
His whole life he had been lied to. He had lived a lie full of suffering and neglect. He didn’t have a choice in that life, and he knew that far too well. But if this was the life that really waited for him, one of truth and kindness, shouldn’t he accept it?
If this is what I was meant for, shouldn’t I be happy?
The male leaned back, “I… I don’t know… I want to do what I’m supposed to do-” He thought for a moment. “I just want to know who I should be…” Tears flowed gently from his face to the red grass below him. His only wish, his only dream fluttered back into his mind.
(Y/N) watched the male for a moment. “We can find out- together…?” Hunter looked up and into (Y/N)’s warm pools of (e/c). Tears of their own trickled down their face as they held their arms out to him again.
The male hesitated again, unsure of what path to choose, unsure if he had any at all. He stared at the witch before him.
No- they’re not doing this for the thread…
(Y/N)’s doing this for me- even from that first night at the market… They did it… for me.
In a moment of desperation Hunter launched himself into their arms, weeping as he felt kindness for the first time. The two awkwardly reached around the other, shuffling their hands around each other. Tears of joy burst from (Y/N)’s eyes as Hunter dug himself deeper into them. They pulled him in close, lulling him into the warmth and safety he never knew he longed for.
(Y/N) pulled him in closer, pulling his head into them as he cried. A smile began to creep along Hunter’s face. His sobs began to mix with half-hearted laughter of relief.
“It’s okay now, I swear. You’ll be safe with me Hunter, I promise you.” They nuzzled his neck lightly, their fingers wrapping around the crying male. They kissed his head sweetly, cupping his cheeks as they did so.
“I just can’t believe it’s really you-” He cried, digging his fingers into them. “I can’t believe fate really let me have a soulmate- to let me have you-” Hunter choked on his words as he cried.
“I know! I know…” They squeezed Hunter in their arms. “I’m so happy I found you again…”
The two cried in each other’s arms for a while. Hunter forgot about everything while he was in (Y/N)’s arms. He didn’t care about the castle or his position or even bout Belos. He didn’t mind anymore that the thread was gift of fate.
Hunter finally pulled away and laughed lightly. “All right, tell me again. What does this thread do?” He sniffled quietly as he wiped some tears away.
“Well,” They pulled him in again. “If you want to ignore the soulmate half for a bit, it’ll always lead back to one another. No matter where we are, we’ll always be able to find each other.”
“And tell me again, what does it mean to be soulmates?” He laughed lightly, letting the warmth of his tears trickle down his face.
“It means we’ll always have each other, Hunter. I guess it technically means we were made for each other, we were destined to be together. It’s complicated but… it kinda just…” They paused, realizing how much trouble they could have saved.
(Y/N) pulled away from Hunter and looked at him dead in the eyes, “It’s like the connection between Palisman and their owners! Oh my Titan! Hunter, how did I not think of this before?!” Hunter gasped with realization as understanding flooded over him.
“OH! Oh! It’s like that unbreakable bond! The one uh… umm…” He snapped his fingers, textbooks worth of information scanning through his mind. “The connection between a palisman and their owner! The lifelong bond that can never be broken! Palisman and their owners bond through emotion- when they bond their lives and consciousness become intertwined indefinitely!”
(Y/N) nodded excitedly, “Yes! Yes! It’s similar to that…” They looked down at the thread. “Strange though. Usually, the thread would appear within a very young age and… and neither of us had it until we met…” They watched the thread loom over their hands and around Hunter’s lap.
Does that mean-
“Did I… get to choose my soulmate?” Hunter murmured. “Do you think that’s what happened? Because I’m a Grimwalker?”
(Y/N) looked up to Hunter, a light blush spreading across their face. I’ve never heard of witches being able to choose but… maybe?” They shrugged, causing Hunter to laugh. “Or maybe fate just… delayed you for a bit- for the better.”
“Well, even if I didn’t get to choose, I’m happy it’s you.” Hunter reached around them. “This has been the best thing that has happened to me since I ditched the Emperor’s Coven.”
(Y/N) smiled and pulled him back in. “Wait, hold on… you abandoned it??” They pulled away from Hunter and smiled. “Oh heck yeah! Now we’re both literally partners in crime!”
They stood up, giving Hunter their hand and helping him up. “Just imagine! We’re gonna be on wanted posters! Together- you and me! How cool is that! I have one of Eda the Owl Lady and Luz the Human-” Hunter laughed at his partner’s enthusiasm. “This is so cool! The two of us!”
                                                   ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter had been welcomed into (Y/N)’s home. It was then that he realized they lived on their own in a cottage out in the woods. The two began to attend Hexside together, not long after (Y/N) found out multi-tracks were introduced. There, everyone was amazed by the story of the two witches, especially Hunter’s new friends: Gus and Willow.
Hunter rested his head on (Y/N)’s shoulder, closing his eyes.
“Tired?” (Y/N) asked gently. Hunter hummed and nodded his head gently, feeling the warmth of (Y/N)’s body.
Over a number of weeks, Hunter had slowly accepted the purpose of the red thread. To (Y/N)’s surprise, he had taken it rather well. Hunter found it incredibly comforting, with time, that the thread was what lead him to his soulmate: (Y/N).  He also developed a habit of reaching for their hand or holding it simply for “the purpose of seeing the thread glow”, but (Y/N) knew he just liked holding hands.
They were also lucky enough to find an old document by a human man with the initials C.W. explaining the thread and a few theories about it. (Y/N) and Hunter was thrilled to find a concept of “delayed appearance” and “confirmed compatibility”. The theory stated that in some cases, it was possible that the thread wouldn’t appear until later in life or when “fate deemed that the couple was an absolute match for one another”. It also stated in another section the findings of the thread holding up through different dimensions, realms, and worlds, in the man’s words: “personal experiences lived by my own flesh and blood, and my soulmate’s”.
Hunter nuzzled (Y/N), feeling a warm blush grow across his face. (Y/N) laughed lightly, pulling him closer to them.
He thought for a moment, the blush growing. “Umm… (Y/N)?” He asked nervously. Hunter shut his eyes tightly as he waited for a response.
“Yeah?” (Y/N) asked as they pulled him closer. The two were sitting on (Y/N)’s bed as they were studying.
“I…” He fidgeted with his finger for a moment. “I love you, (Y/N)...” He held his breath for a moment as he waited for them to respond.
(Y/N) laughed lightly, “Hunter! You’ve said it a thousand times, there’s no need for you to be nervous!” They planted a passionate kiss on his lips, causing the male to blush and become fully awake. “I love you too, Hunter,” They rested their forehead on his and smiled sweetly.
Hunter smiled, “I love you,” He whispered back, feeling their hand hold his. He shut his eyes ad leaned on (Y/N), quietly thanking fate for giving him a chance; for letting a small, frail thread connect him to his soulmate, to (Y/N).

I am genuinely so sorry for having this take so long to come out. I was not expecting it to be so difficult for me to make this one lol. I feel like the story might not make sense in some parts but lemme explain. I wanted to set this in a world where Hunter has no idea what the thread is so he has to learn, adapt, and accept it. In case you didn’t get it… C.W. is our one and only Caleb lol. I’d really love to expand on his story if you’re interested.
The only reason I was able to finish today was because I had to stay home. I have covid at the moment lol.
But thank you so much for requesting! And thanks to everyone who reads these! I have a part 3 more or less planned for this (if ya’ll want it) and a new FULL story coming out. It’ll be on all my other accounts soon. It’s a Hunter x Reader ToH x Gravity Falls requested AU thing.
But thanks again to all of you who read these and enjoy them! Your support means so much! I’ll catch up with requests (slowly but surely). Requests are open as always, and thanks for reading!

Alternate Part 3 Bonus
“I believe you have been… retaining some information you promised to tell,” The gentle, mature voice filled a dark room full of wires and tubes. The figure stood before a broken door with a large eye in the center.
“Hmmmmm…” The child thought for a moment. “Ugh. I can’t do EVERYTHING as long as I’m trapped here!” The shadow chimed back. It smirked mischievously. “Although…” It thought for a moment, giggling as a plan unfoiled. “I think I know how to find where our playmates might be!”
“A witch gone wild, magic untamed!
A walker, Of grim, hidden, ashamed!
Playing together, two outlaws unite
Finding our pals, oh… what a delight!”
The Emperor smiled, “If it’s a game you’d like to play, Collector, I suppose we can find you a playmate or two to keep you company.”

Summary: Hunter awakens to realize he has a red thread tied around his finger. He is determined to find out what it means, despite not knowing where to start.
                                              ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The young male breathed in deeply as he awoke, then exhaled. He sat up in his bed, his eyes still closed, and steadied himself. It was six a.m., and the sun was just barely coming out. Its golden rays crept over the land, spreading its gentle warmth over the world. A ray of gold gleamed through the window and onto the male. He rubbed his face tiredly, and then aggressively rubbed his eyes. He felt his eyes struggle to open, but forced himself to open them slightly. The male yawned deeply, closed his eyes again, and rubbed his face with both hands. As he opened his eyes, he saw a small, red thread with a neat bow tied around his pinkie.
He exhaled, utterly bothered by its presence. “Oh, very funny…” He muttered. He reached to untie the thread, but he couldn’t seem to feel it. He blinked in surprise and tried again. He tried pulling it, tugging it, and untying it, yet the thread did nothing. The young witch gave up and sighed again. He examined the thread closely, attempting to put together why he couldn’t take it off. He exhaled sleepily, remembering he had a job to do and duties to tend. Maybe it’s one of the scouts using an illusion spell as a prank. Ha! Very funny… They’ll see.
As he got up and out of his bed, he realized the thread led a trail under his door. He tugged on it again but it only seemed to stretch. The male stared at his pinkie, his palm open, and then at the door. “Hmm…” He grumbled angrily, “This is no way to treat the Emperor’s nephew…” The male muttered.
A little, red bird flew onto his shoulder and chirped curiously. “Flapjack! Hey buddy.” The male reached out and pet the bird gently on its head, and the bird sang happily. “Hey, Flapjack, do you know who tied this thread to my finger?” The male raised his pinkie and showed it to the palisman. “I woke up and I saw it, I don’t know who put it here.” The little bird stared at his finger and chirped a response. “What do you mean you can’t see it?! It’s- it’s right here!!” He exclaimed, emphasizing with his other hand. The bird sang back to him. “I- I don’t know why you can’t see it. Maybe it’s a special illusion spell…” The male trailed off in thought, “Or maybe Belos is summoning me! Yeah! That’s probably it!” He exclaimed excitedly. The bird chirped, agreeing with him.
The male smiled, “You’ll have to stay hidden though, okay?” He explained, raising his index finger, inviting the small palisman. The bird chirped happily and flew onto it. The male smiled and pet him again. “I love you, Flapjack. Stay safe for me, okay?” Flapjack sang to him happily and nuzzled his finger. Hunter smiled and continued petting the bird. “I’m going to find out where this thread goes- it might even be my next mission!” He explained excitedly. The bird replied with another song, and the young witch smiled again. “I need to get ready. I’ll let you come as long as you promise to stay hidden.” Flapjack chirped his promise and Hunter smiled. “Okay, let’s get ready then.”
The male changed into his black shirt, golden vest, and white cloak. He slipped on his black, leather gloves, flexing his fingers in them. Hunter looked at his desk. There laid a round, golden mask with two eye holes. It almost resembled an owl. Hunter glanced at it, reached out, then hesitated.
The little bird chirped curiously, looking up at the young male. His hair dangled in between his eyes. “Not, yet. I want to know where this goes first,” He held up his finger and examined the thread again.  Flapjack cooed and sang. “C’mon, let go.”
The male reached for the doorknob, looking back at the mask one final time. His view shifted to the red thread, calling to him. I want to know what you are. He sighed, turned the knob, and pulled the door open.
Hunter marched down the halls of the castle, turning left and right, going downstairs, all as the thread demanded. He avoided looking at scouts or guards in the castle. If Flapjack can’t see it, they might not either.
Hunter looked up, realizing he had reached the castle’s gates. The male froze in the black shadow. He looked down at his finger, his eyes following the thread as it crept under the gates. He exhaled in disappointment. Damn.
“Hey, Blondie.”
The male snapped around, recognizing the voice. “Steve! Hey,” He said, waving at him.
“What are you doing out here? The emperor has been looking for you. He wanted you early this morning,” Steve explained smoothly.
His face flushed in embarrassment and his heart sank in terror.
“I-I-...” He stuttered, not knowing what to do. He felt Flapjack shuffle around under his shirt. “I thought I was being called somewhere…” He admitted nervously.
“How come?” Steve asked, his voice echoing behind his mask.
Hunter held up his finger, “I woke up and I saw a red thread wrapped around my finger- I thought it was a prank at first,” he explained. Steve leaned forward and peered through his mask, empty eyes staring at Hunter’s finger. “Then, I realized the thread continued and led all the way... here… past the gates…” Hunter turned to look at the gates again, silent reminders of his restrictions.
“I don’t see anything, sorry man,” Steve replied, straightening his back.
Hunter’s ears bent back in shame as his face flushed madly. “O-oh…” Hunter murmured.
“I’ve heard people mumble about these things. Red string leading to another person and whatnot, but I’ve never seen them,” Steve explained, sighing sadly. “EVERYONE seems to have one… everyone except me…” He hung his head down sadly, staring at his feet. Hunter frowned uncomfortably at the scout before him. “Anyways you should get going, you know how Belos gets when his orders aren’t followed.”
“Y-yeah…” Hunter replied nervously.
Steve sighed heavily, “All of it so much… Steve is beginning to regret. HIS. Choices…” He sang as he walked away from the young male.
Hunter turned to face the gates again. They were like silent golems demanding him to stay put. His eyes traced the thread carefully as it slipped beneath the gates. Hunter shifted his gaze down the hall, knowing the exact path to the throne room. Something bothered him. Suddenly, he didn’t want to go, he wanted to find the end of the thread.
The young male sighed, shifting around, his eyes locked on the delicate thread hidden beneath the gates. He had left the castle the day before for a mission. It wouldn’t be until the end of the week that he would be allowed out again. The male turned and began to march down to the throne room, to the emperor waiting for him.
                                                 ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Hunter had turned back around when he was halfway at his destination. He rushed to his room, hastily snatched his mask, and scurried back down.
The Golden Guard approached the open doors of the throne room, a tall, muscular male standing before him. A purple cape was elegantly draped over the right side of his body. His eyes glowed green and his pursed lips reflected the dancing firelight.
“If it isn’t the little prince,” He sang, looking down at the male. The Golden Guard blushed in embarrassment, feeling the mask reflect his heat back to him. “About time you showed up. What? Slept in today? You know better…” He grumbled, looking down at the Golden Guard in disgust.
“I thought I was called elsewhere, Darius-” He began.
“Oh, you thought? What a surprise, he thinks!” Darius exclaimed, smirking at the small male. “Hmph, don’t you know to do as you’re told?” He taunted, his purple hair bubbling up like the fire in the torches.
The Golden Guard curled his fists in embarrassment.
“Go in,” Darius muttered. “The Emperor has been waiting for you…” He walked past the male, leaving the dark room and walking into the hallway.
The male made his way in. He followed the long carpet leading up to the throne. Scouts stood at attention along the walls, staring forward lifelessly like perfect statues. A large, black, heart beat above the throne steadily, filling the room with a gentle rhythm of beats and thuds. On the throne sat a tall, slim, masked figure. The Golden Guard made his way to the steps of the throne and kneeled before the emperor.
“Emperor Belos, I apologize for my tardiness,” He began, speaking boldly behind his mask. “I believed you had summoned me elsewhere and I had gone to follow,” He trembled slightly behind the mask.
“Hunter, you know I called you here,” The emperor responded in his soft, mechanic voice. “I call you here after each mission, and after each mission, you come here,” He waved his hand at the boy. “Now, why did you think I called you elsewhere?”
Hunter felt his face flush red. Fear filled his veins as his heartbeat quickened. “I saw a red thread tied around my finger. I-I believed you had left it a-as a sign for me to follow i-it,” He explained nervously, bowing his head forward before the emperor. “I apologize.”
The emperor tensed for a moment, clutching his throne harshly, and then rose. He stepped down from the throne and towards Hunter. “Come,” He said, and the male rose immediately to his side. “Hunter, it is good you have told me this. Never keep anything from me. Secrets are just as dangerous as wild magic,” He explained. Hunter tensed, feeling Flapjack’s gentle feathers against him. “Now tell me, where did you see this… ‘red thread’, Hunter?” He asked, stopping to face the male behind him.
Hunter held up his gloved hand. He could see the thread around his finger despite the black leather. “It’s on my pinky,” He began, “I woke up this morning a-and saw it there, “I thought you were summoning m-me… s-so I followed i-it.”
Belos loomed down to examine his finger. “Where? I don’t see this thread.” Hunter felt his heart sink. “There’s nothing there, are you sure?” He asked, rising back up. “You haven’t been involved with any wild magic, have you?” He asked, his blue pupils glowing through the darkness of the mask. Hunter felt himself shrink as he stared into them. He began to tremble slightly in fear. His blue pupils stood out so that they appeared to be the only light in the room.
Hunter unfroze and shook his head, “N-n-no! Of course not!” He exclaimed, almost pleading Belos to spare his life. “I know how dangerous wild magic is! T-that’s why I asked you! I-I-I-”
“Hunter, this is a good sign,” He explained merrily.  “This only proves that the Titan has big plans for you, Hunter,” Belos said. Hunter gasped in bewilderment. “You see, this thread doesn’t really lead anywhere. It’s just a reminder of the link between you and the Titan. Wherever you go, this thread will follow you, Hunter.”
The Golden Guard looked down at his finger proudly, feeling a sense of value fulfill him.
“Just, keep this in mind, Hunter,” Belos murmured. “Tampering with wild magic will cut the tie between you and the Titan. The thread will never lead you to anything or anyone specifically,” He continued, placing a hand over Hunter’s shoulder. He loomed down, his eyes glowing a bright, menacing blue. “DO. NOT. Follow it.” He muttered harshly.
Hunter trembled before the glowing blue, “B-but I saw it lead somewhere!” He exclaimed.
The Emperor’s grip tightened around the male, “DO NOT follow it, Hunter,” He hissed. “Those who have tried following this thread only find themselves a fate worse than that the Titan had planned.” He rose up, carefully examining the thread before looking at Hunter again. “Respect the Titan’s will and he will guide you. Do not tamper with it, DO NOT. Follow. It.” The Emperor made his way back to his throne. “I know you will not let me down, right, Hunter?” He turned his head to face the male behind him.
Hunter trembled as he straightened his back, and then dropped to his knee. Beads of sweat adorned his face behind the mask.
“I won’t let you down, Emperor Belos,” He replied mechanically in utter terror.
The Emperor smiled behind his mask, the blue pupils fading away. “Very good, Hunter. You are dismissed.”

The witch shuffled around their bed as they woke up. The golden sun had been illuminating the world for a few hours by the time they awoke. They shuffled awkwardly, sitting up and rubbing their eyes hastily as they prepared themselves for another day. The warmth of their blankets begged them to stay, to rest in their comfort, but they knew better than to sleep in.
(Y/N) fell back onto their bed tiredly, waiting for their mind to fully awaken. They blinked slowly, their eyes adapting to the warm gold of the sun filling their room. They reached their hand up to let the sun dance on their fingers and smiled slightly. The shining light radiated heat onto their fingers, and a small thread shined slightly as it reflected the sun’s light.
The witch shot up, wide-eyed, and suddenly fully awake. They dug their fingers into their bed with one hand as they steadied themselves.
“What?!” They whispered to themselves, examining their pinky. They turned their hand over several times as they examined the thread. “What? What?! H-how?!” (Y/N) muttered to themselves in shock.
They knew too well what the thread was. Their face flushed red as they realized they were wrong about everything. Ever since they were little, they lacked the thread so many others had.
The thread was said to unite two souls together; two souls to form one. Many called it the “Red Thread of Fate”, others simply “The Red Thread”. (Y/N) had even heard it be called “The red pinky string or something”. The sacred thread would connect soulmates so they would always have a way to find one another. It was a thin, red thread tied to the pinky of each person. The thread would stretch and shrink, depending on the distance between the two souls, but it would never tear.
(Y/N) had been sure they were meant to be alone, and they had accepted it. They never saw any thread tied to their finger. (Y/N) shuffled out of their bed and faced their closed door. The red string slithered under it, beckoning them to follow.
They stared at the door, thoughts flooding through their mind. How did this happen? Why did this happen? Why now, suddenly, after all these years? They looked back at their pinky, the neat bow standing out. Who? Who could it possibly be? Everyone I know has a thread… (Y/N) sighed and turned away from the door, looking through their window at the golden sun outside.
                                                ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The Golden Guard marched down to his room. He turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. He walked into the empty room, filled by the fading light of the sun. The male shut the door behind him and went to his bed, collapsing onto it, exhausted. He sighed deeply, covering his face with his hands.
The little palisman crept out of his cape and onto his chest, singing gently to him.
Hunter opened his eyes and tilted his head up. “Flapjack!” He smiled and lifted his head up. “Hey buddy, long day, huh?” He pet the bird's head gently and it whistled happily.
Hunter’s view shifted to the thread on his pinky. He knew Belos had told him not to follow it, but he longed to know where it led. Hunter recalled Steve’s words, “Red string leading to another person and whatnot”. He paused for a moment, could it really lead to someone else? Who?
Flapjack noticed Hunter was staring at his hand and chirped to him. “Hmm? Oh, i-it’s just the thread.  I want to know what it is…” Hunter trailed off and continued to pet the little bird. Flapjack sang back to him. “Well, Belos said ‘The Titan had big plans for me’, but Steve says these can lead to people. I’m… not sure though. I’ve never heard of these,” Hunter explained to the small palisman.
The little bird chirped and flapped its wings excitedly, bouncing further along his chest. “What? Have you heard of these before?” Hunter sat up and beckoned for the little bird to hop onto his finger. Flapjack bounced onto it and sang. “You can’t see it, but you know what it is?” Hunter asked excitedly. The bird chirped happily, “Really? You knew someone who had a red thread too?!” Hunter leaned down to the bird as it continued singing to him.
Hunter’s eyes widened as Flapjack told him of a person who had claimed to see the thread, and how they found their soulmate because of it. Hunter looked to his door and stared at the thread that slipped under it. He sighed, remembering what Belos had said, and shuddered. Hunter turned to his window, watching the sun fade away into the hills.
Hunter longed for an answer, for a reason. If this thread led to someone, why appear now? To who would it lead? What would be their connection to him? And if it really did connect him to the Titan, why would Belos keep that until now? What was his true purpose?
Flapjack chirped curiously as he watched Hunter. The boy turned to face the little bird and pet him gently. “I want to know where this thread leads- whether it’s to something or someone. I want to know what I’m meant for,” He murmured to the little bird. Flapjack watched him as he stared out the window again. “And if it really leads to someone… I want to know who they are. Maybe… maybe I have a soulmate,” He said hopefully, looking back to the thread.
Flapjack chirped excitedly. “I know, I want to go now too,” He pet the bird gently, “But we have to wait until the weekend. I’ll go out for a mission, and we can find out where this thread leads- together.”
                                                ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
A shadow swam around the walls, echoing laughter and mischievous giggles.
“You were sca-ared!!” The boyish voice sang, giggling as it continued to swim. “I saw you! You were sca-ared! Sca-ared! Sca-ared!!” It twirled and jumped from wall to wall.
The slim figure stood before the shadow, watching it with a slight smirk.
“No, no,” The figure explained in a soft voice, “All it did was remind me of someone. That doesn’t matter though, I know how to keep him in line.”
The shadow giggled, “Oh yeah?! Well, I saw you!” It chimed back, swirling next to the figure. “He’s just like your brother? Isn’t he?!” The shadow smiled at the discomfort of the figure below him. The shadow split into two figures on opposite walls, a thin thread connecting them. One was a masculine shadow with a strand of hair dangling in front of his head and the other figure was a feminine shadow with short, wild hair.
“A small, frail thread
Tainted by red
Connecting two
Unites, me and YOU!”
Tumblr media
It sang loudly. It was the same voice yet it echoed as if it were two people chanting in unison. The shadow came back together, forming a boyish figure that appeared to be in sleepwear. “Heh, you WERE right! Out of all the Grimwalkers, he’s the one most like him!” It giggled in glee, swimming around and splitting into what seemed like a hundred shadows, all identical to each other. They were all the same; cloaked and masked shadows. They filled the room, swarming around one another.
“Yes, but that doesn’t matter, Collector,” He explained, “Hunter isn’t like the previous attempts. I say, 'The Titan has big plans for you,' and he listens,” The slim male spoke softly, feeling his blood run cold as he stared at the figures.
“Hmm,” The shadows sang in unison, collecting back to form the Collector, “Whatever,” He muttered, “I’m just saying. He REAAALLLYYYY liked that thread,” He replied, looking down at the male.
The male felt his hands freeze and begin to tingle as he recalled his brother: the joy that overwhelmed him as he realized the thread he always talked about connected him to a mysterious witch from another realm. The joy they shared together when they finally united. The abandonment he felt when his brother left him for a witch.
A witch.
He snapped back and looked up at the boy, a gentle smirk on his face. “It won’t happen again, Collector. I’ll make sure of it.”

You Are My Wings- Hunter x Non-Binary/GN! Winged! Reader
A/N: Absolutely! I love this idea!
I'M SO SORRY THIS TOOK FOREVER TO GET OUT I SWEAR I WAS BUSY.
Spoilers: Thanks to Them and For the Future
T/W: Death (Canonical), amputations, angst, feelings of guilt, shame, almost death.
Not exactly gore like blood but KiNdA violent and mAybE body horror depending on how you feel about it. Some violence. AMPUTATIONS HAHHAAHHAHAH-
(Y/N) looked into the vast blue above them and their eyes followed a flock of birds flying happily. Their wings spread out slowly, anxiously, as they watched the bright sky. Their wings twitched slightly, then flapped gently. It had been months since they last flew. Ever since they had been stranded in the Human Realm, they had been confined to illusion spells and the safety of Luz’s home. (Y/N) sighed and rested their head onto their arms on the window sill.
It had been months since they all arrived. Everyone seemed to be getting by well; everyone except (Y/N). They hadn’t ever been restricted from flying. Back in the Isles, they flew as freely as they pleased. In the Human Realm, however, they were restricted to the ground like never before. They sighed sadly, and hid their head into their arms again. The ends of their wings layed lifelessly against the floor.
Suddenly, they heard the door creak open. The sound was followed by a familiar pattern of footsteps. (Y/N) smiled and perked up, looking around as they were approached.
The young male blushed lightly seeing the excitement on his partner’s face. Hunter smiled as he sat next to (Y/N), “Hey,” He murmured softly to them. “How are you, (Y/N)?” His blush spread across his face and to his ears. He watched (Y/N) flap their wings excitedly. It reminded him slightly of how Flapjack would flap his wings.
(Y/N) smiled, “Oh I’m… I’m okay, I’m just…” They trailed off and looked back up at the sky. “I just miss… being up there…” They leaned their head onto Hunter and he tensed nervously. Although they had been dating for a while, he was still nervous and shy around them. His fingers danced awkwardly across his folded legs. (Y/N) could feel the heat from Hunter’s face spreading to theirs and smiled.
Tumblr media
The male finally eased and relaxed, resting his head on (Y/N)’s. He thought for a moment, “I miss it, too. I liked playing Flyer Derby. Being in the sky like that was so much fun. It must have been even more fun for you though.” He paused for a moment again, “I mean, because you can just… er, could, fly around whenever you wanted to….” He trailed off awkwardly and (Y/N) laughed.
“Yeah, it was fun being up there…” (Y/N) smiled and reached for his hand and Hunter accepted. The two stared out the window peacefully. (Y/N) stretched out their wing and embraced Hunter, slowly wrapping it around him. He felt the gentle warmth and soft feathers melt into him. Hunter gently nuzzled (Y/N)’s head.
Hunter sighed and thought for a moment. He closed his eyes, remembering when (Y/N) held his hand for the first time. He hadn’t expected he’d be ready for a relationship, but he had longed for it. (Y/N) had been patient, kind, and unbelievably loving toward him. They took care of him and made him feel loved and special. It wasn’t the same “special” Belos had molded him into. The false promise that he was meant for great things. It was a genuine special. He felt like he really mattered as someone. He was loved for who he was.
He chewed his lips awkwardly, still too shy to say everything he wanted to. “Hey, (Y/N)?” He called softly, looking away nervously.
“Mhm?” They hummed back, leaning further into him. He smiled, just as he did everytime they gave him the attention he never knew he needed. Hunter loved feeling them close to him, and he loved the gentleness of their wings’ embrace.
“Umm…Are you excited about the Halloween Party?” He asked instead of saying what he really meant.
(Y/N) cuddled against Hunter, causing his heart to skip a few dozen beats. “Yeah! I think it’ll be fun.” They replied softly, their gaze fixed on the sky above them.
Hunter nodded, dancing his fingers over his legs. “(Y/N)?” He called again.
“Yeah?”
Hunter hid his face into (Y/N)’s shoulder. “I… I love you, (Y/N)...” He murmured shyly to them.
(Y/N) smiled, and pulled away from Hunter to turn and face him. He lifted his head and looked at (Y/N) nervously, thinking he had made them uncomfortable. Hunter then noticed the smile on their face and smiled back.
(Y/N) cupped his cheeks and pulled him in to connect their lips. Hunter blushed madly but melted into the kiss, feeling their soft, warm lips against his own. Their warmth comforted him like nothing else could. Hunter felt his heart melt, smiling through the sweet kiss.
(Y/N) pulled back after a while, still cupping his cheeks in their soft hands. They rested their forehead against his. “I love you, Hunter.”
Hunter smiled and stared into their bright (e/c) eyes. He felt his heart race as he took in the moment. The two leaned back together and pecked each other gently, (Y/N)’s wings bringing the two closer with each kiss.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
(Y/N) spread their wings and leaped into the air, the rush of cold wind brushing fiercely against their wings. They flew at ‘Hunter’ and circled him. Flapjack was trying to distract him by flapping and pecking at him desperately. ‘Hunter’ grimaced and snatched the little bird in a swift movement. Flapjack struggled and cried in fear, chirping loudly in panic. (Y/N) dove down at him. He looked up at them and smiled before grabbing them and throwing them to the ground. (Y/N) yelped in surprise as he pushed them into the Earth beneath them.
He looked from the little cardinal to (Y/N), and a grim smirk crept onto his face. “It seems like you’ve done yet another good thing for me, Luz,” Belos' voice taunted as gripped the crying bird tightly while (Y/N) struggled under his arm. “You’ve brought these two to me; I’ll kill two birds with one stone- quite literally,” Belos soft voice taunted them maliciously.
“NO!!” Luz cried out desperately from the bridge.
“That’s right,” He muttered happily, “You wouldn’t  want me hurting your precious palisman- would you?” The bird chirped and sung for help, “Oh, but again- I don’t care what you want,” he said, a vile smirk growing across his face.
He looked at Flapjack, “Goodbye, Evelyn”, he muttered. The small Palisman was pierced with his sharp claws. He crushed him between his hands and the bird’s form became severely distorted.
‘Hunter’ set his foot on (Y/N)’s back, just between their two wings. (Y/N) squirmed in panic, trying to free themself from his grasp.
“It would be such a shame if Hunter hurt the only two he really loved,” He wrapped his claws around both of (Y/N)'s wings, pulling them harshly. They screamed, unbearable pain searing through their entire body. Their wings twisted and distorted in pain and flapped desperately.
“(Y/N)!!” Luz screamed, reaching out to (Y/N). Everybody gasped in horror as a disgusting ripping sound filled the air. ‘Hunter’ tossed their wings aside as if they were nothing. They laid on the ground, limp, unmoving and horrifyingly curled at the ends as if they wanted to make one last attempt to fly away.
‘Hunter’ began to bring Flapjack up to him, about to consume the magical essence of the small palisman. Just as he brought his arm up, he hesitated, and his other arm snagged at him. Flapjack was released and he glided down into Luz’s arms.
Luz shook in horror seeing the damage of the palisman up close, “Flapjack!” She cried out in terror. She cupped him in her hands and cried, “You’re going to be okay!” the little bird  looked up to her weekly, breathing heavily.
(Y/N)’s vision began to blur. As their eyes began to close, they got one last glance of Hunter. They panted heavily as they watched him stumble forward.
“You know what I’d like?” It was finally his voice again. Hunter’s gentle voice softly rang in (Y/N)’s mind as his form began to blur, fading in and out of focus. Colors began to blend together into a murky painting before their eyes. They didn’t feel themselves breathing anymore. Pain overwhelmed their entire body as consciousness pounded and faded.“Hunter-” (Y/N) thought they called out to him. They couldn’t hear themselves, or they were too loud to hear anything else. They suddenly saw a form moving quickly, and then fade into a puddle of blue. (Y/N) couldn’t tell how much later it happened, but two forms shifted out of the faded blue. Pain throbbed fiercely in their back as their eyes closed. Hunter…
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
“(Y/N)!” Hunter shot up but then coiled back in pain, “No, no, no!” He began to tremble violently. Hunter brought his hands up to his face and wept bitterly. “(Y/N)...”
“Wait, I-” Willow rose quickly and left Hunter in Camila’s arms, “I- I think I can help!” She ran to (Y/N) and Luz followed behind her. Luz hugged herself as tears streamed down her face. It’s my fault, it’s my fault. He only did this because of me…
“Is- is (Y/N) going to be ok? I- I can’t find a glyph!” She dug into her pouch savagely as she ran. The two girls approached them, and Luz kneeled to (Y/N)’s side opposite of Willow.
“I… I think so. Viney knew a healing spell,” Willow reached for (Y/N) and steadied them into her arms. “They’re barely breathing…” Willow looked at (Y/N) and grimaced when she saw their back. “It’s best not to look, just- here help me,” She turned them to their side.
“H-how?! What do we do?!” Luz cried out. She was shaking as badly as (Y/N) was.
“Try to bring them back to consciousness while I heal them,” Willow answered calmly, trying to reassure Luz. “They’ll be fine just- just keep (Y/N) conscious,” She made a large loop with her hands and it began to glow.
Everything was muffled and fading. (Y/N) felt a thousand things in their body. They were cold and shaking violently. Their back stung and burned exactly where their wings were. The world flashed brightly but suddenly descended into an abyss of black. (Y/N) breathed desperately, or not at all, trying to catch their breath. They felt that they couldn’t breathe yet the air burned their lungs. The only thing they felt for certain was their uncontrollable shaking. They tried to move their wings, to feel them, but they couldn’t. They only felt the nerves in their back twist, tighten, pulse, and pull.
The muffled sounds suddenly became a familiar hum. Their back began to numb slightly, slowly, as their other senses came back. They finally breathed again and their body relaxed slightly.
“(Y/N)! I- I think they can hear me!” Luz exclaimed as tears of joy began streaming down her face. She watched (Y/N) shift ever so slightly. Luz pulled (Y/N) closer in her lap. “Oh, (Y/N)...”
“Careful!” Willow reminded Luz, “They…” She frowned again, “They’ll be okay but… we can’t do anything about…” The two girls looked over to (Y/N)’s lifeless wings and shuddered again in horror.
Hunter laid in Camila’s arms, trembling as he cried. He had watched Luz and Willow run to (Y/N)’s aid. He calmed slightly when he saw Willow begin to use a magic circle.
“Is everyone else okay?” Hunter asked through tears, trying to sit up as Camila held him.
“Everyone else... I think so,” Gus explained. “I don’t know about (Y/N), but Flapjack-”
“Don’t!” Hunter cut him off as he broke into tears. “Don’t… I-I already know.” He gripped his shirt where Flapjack had laid. Hunter struggled in Camila’s arms as he tried to rise.
“Sit up slowly, baby. Are you in pain anywhere?” Camila asked gently. Hunter shook his head.
“I’m fine-” He murmured, “(Y/N), I need to know how they are!” Hunter rose and his knees bent jerkishly. He stretched out his arms for balance, then finally stood up and bolted towards (Y/N). He ran towards them, stumbling several times as he tried to recover from the weakness in his body.
The two girls looked up at Hunter as he approached them. They shared the same grim expression. Hunter looked to his right and his breath hitched as his eyes settled on the atrocity before him. He felt his heart sink and stomach turn. “Oh no…” He felt tears prickle his eyes. They began to spill out uncontrollably. Hunter turned and began to creep towards (Y/N). Their form laid limply in Luz’s lap, her arms embracing them tightly.
“Oh no, no, no,” Hunter collapsed onto his knees next to Luz and took their hand in his. “(Y/N)? He called out weakly, his voice breaking. Hunter began to snivel, “(Y/N)?” He called sternly, yet the pain in his voice took over. “(Y-Y/N), please,” He squeezed their hand in his, and reached out to feel their cheek with his other hand. “(Y/N), p-please! Please d-don’t do this to m-me,” He begged desperately, choking on his words. Hunter continued shaking his head wildly as he spoke. “(Y/N)! (Y/N), PLEASE!” His desperation overwhelmed him. He wanted to demand them to get up. His orders as the Golden Guard had been obeyed, respected, and followed regardless of anything, but he knew he couldn’t do anything for (Y/N). No command could ever bring back those who were lost, and he knew it too well.
Hunter began to cry harshly, his sudden cries of pain filling the atmosphere around them. “(Y/N) please, please, please,” He swallowed forcefully, trying to control himself. His heart sunk again as guilt settled over him. “(Y/N) I’m sorry! I-I didn’t mean to do it!” Hunter began to shake as he felt his soul being torn apart, “(Y/N) I-I couldn’t d-do a-a-anything, I swear!” He began to sob uncontrollably as shame overcame him. “(Y/N) I would never h-hurt y-you, I swear, please.” Hunter shifted and moved in front of Luz and his body bent over (Y/N)’s limp form helplessly. “I’m so, so sorry. (Y/N), I love you I would never do anything to hurt you, I swear,” Hunter spoke without pausing, his words jumbling into a mess. The others began to gather around the weeping male. Luz and Willow exchanged worried glances as they watched him cry. Luz dug her fingers into her legs, as she remained kneeled, did the spell work?
Hunter took (Y/N)’s limp form in his arms. He cupped their cheeks and rubbed his thumb gently against one. The male bit his lip, trying to control himself but another whimper left him.
“(Y/N)?” Another whimper followed, and he rested his forehead against theirs. He closed his eyes and hugged them tightly, feeling their body shift gently as they barely breathed.
“Hunter?” (Y/N) finally murmured sluggishly. Hunter perked up, his eyes flying open with shock.
“(Y/N)? (Y/N)!!” He cried happily, pulling them up into a hug, “Oh, (Y/N),” he whispered through tears and happy whimpers. “Oh, my (Y/N),” he held their head in one hand, his fingers tangling in their (h/c) hair.
(Y/N) laughed half-heartedly, opening their eyes slightly, slowly. “Hunter… Hunter, are you okay? What-” They exhaled awkwardly, shifting, flexing, and twisting their back, “What happened?” Their eyes were half open, exhausted, and disoriented. (Y/N) rested their head against Hunter’s shoulder.
Hunter tensed and hid his face into (Y/N)’s neck, his tears trickling onto their neck as he cried. “I-I thought I lost you… too…” He sniffled, his body rising and falling sharply with each sob.
(Y/N) thought for a moment and pulled away to look at Hunter. They then looked around at the others, scanning the group. They lifted their head for a moment and looked briefly behind him. (Y/N)’s eyes settled on their wings, and by instinct, they tried to feel them by flapping them. There was only the tension in their back, a slight movement where they had been. Their breath hitched and they trembled in horror. (Y/N) looked back to Hunter.
“Where’s Flapjack?”
Everyone shared the same grim expression, tears in everyone’s eyes. (Y/N) looked back at Hunter. He was biting his lip harshly as fresh tears gathered in his eyes. He shook his head gently, utter pain seeping out of his soul.
“No, no…” They murmured, scanning the group. Their sadness only confirmed what he had said. “Oh, Hunter!” (Y/N) flung themselves towards Hunter and embraced him tightly.  (Y/N) dug their face back into Hunter’s neck and he pulled them closer. (Y/N) wished they could embrace him in their wings, to hide him away in them. Hunter’s tears were joined by (Y/N)’s and by everyone else’s.The two cried together, hugging each other tightly in the darkness of the dead night.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
(Y/N) made their through the clearing with Hunter as the group walked forward. Hunter had told them they could stay in the Human realm after what they had gone through. (Y/N) however, was too stubborn to leave their boyfriend alone and gladly followed Hunter through the portal.
Hunter had been somewhat distant since they made it through the portal. (Y/N) noticed he was irritated easily and Hunter avoided looking (Y/N) in their eyes for too long. Although, he wouldn’t deny the offer of holding his partner’s hand when offered, and so they walked on together.
As they made their way through, the others became excited in their home world and began to perform their magic. (Y/N) and Hunter watched as Willow and Gus played with illusions of red grass.
“Willows back!”
“Hooray!”
The illusions cheered happily, cuddling Willow sweetly. Hunter and (Y/N) smiled at the two; it was good to see their friend were happy.
Suddenly, Hunter was startled by the sound of chirping. (Y/N) gasped, and the two looked up to where the sound was emitting from. Hunter tensed as he saw it, and (Y/N) felt their heart sink: it was a red bird.
The bird suddenly flew away and disappeared into the sky before them. (Y/N) stared helplessly at the sky above. They had longed to be back, to be in those skies. They sighed sadly and looked down.
Hunter grumbled angrily, and his grip tightened on (Y/N)’s hand. “We don’t have time for red grass or… illusions!” He shouted impatiently, pulling at his hair with his other hand, “Belos had a head start- so we should keep MOVING until we find him!” He started forwards again, and (Y/N) stumbled after him. As they continued moving, they caught a glance of Amity playing with abomination magic. She swirled purple slime in the air happily, giggling as she did so. (Y/N) continued to stumble slightly with Hunter’s rigorous pace, but turned to face forward to catch up to him.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
(Y/N) glanced around the secret room in awe. Hunter crept in after them, looking around curiously behind the group.
Mattholomule made his way to the center, “This is where me and Jerbo have been trying to come up with plans to make Hexside more liveable," He explained, motioning with his hand.
Hunter looked around the room, making his way to some wooden crates in the corner. (Y/N) glanced over and saw him, and chased after him quickly. The two sat on the crates, a silence looming over them.
Hunter didn’t want to avoid (Y/N), but he didn’t know what to say. Guilt had completely flooded him, overwhelming his soul. He rested his head on his left palm, his other arm laying across his legs. He stared at the floor, irritated with himself for what had happened. Hunter blew his strand of golden hair out of his face in annoyance. It’s my fault any of this happened.
(Y/N) looked around the room. It was covered in different plans, papers and drawings hung everywhere. They glanced back at Hunter. He had been strangely quiet since they arrive at the Isles. They turned away and sighed sadly. (Y/N) knew Hunter too well and knew he was keeping something from them. Hunter was always so eager to share everything with (Y/N), and (Y/N) loved hearing him.
(Y/N) leaned onto Hunter’s shoulders and placed their hand over his. They held it gently in their hand. Hunter perked up in surprise, glancing over to (Y/N). He sighed awkwardly, wishing he could fix everything.
Suddenly, (Y/N) sat up jerkishly, feeling pain burn in their back and tingling throughout their wings. Their first instinct was to flap them to alleviate the numbing. They had learned that from the various times their wings had fallen asleep. Once, Hunter had watched (Y/N) flap their wings wildly after they had fallen asleep, and he couldn’t help but laugh with them.
Hunter looked over to (Y/N), who had tensed suddenly after jerking up. I don’t have my wings…
“What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly, shifting in his seat as he examined his partner.  (Y/N) squeezed his hand tightly, biting their lip.
“I thought I felt my wings,” They explained under their breath. Hunter felt his stomach twist, turning away as the same shame came over him again.

“Are you okay?” They asked gently.
Hunter felt his heart sink. He sighed heavily, “Yeah… I’m… I-I’m okay…” He paused, hesitating before asking. “How are you?” He murmured, looking at their back sadly.
“I’m okay,” They whispered in return. Hunter felt his heart throb painfully. He longed to undo everything that had happened to them. Everything he had done.
(Y/N) kissed Hunter’s cheek softly, “I love you, Hunter,” (Y/N) whispered into his ear.
Hunter choked as he felt tears burn his eyes. “I-I-I love you too, (Y/N),” He murmured through his broken voice. After everything I did, they don’t have any resentment against me…

A bright flash of purple light covered everything behind the four. Hunter had managed to move everyone out of the way as he saw the beam coming towards them. Once it disappeared, they all crept forward and stared in the direction it came from.
“Huh?” They asked in unison.
“Sorry! Haha!” Luz apologized bashfully, “I’m still getting the hang of this!” She exclaimed, holding a glowing staff in her left hand.
“Luz has a staff,” Gus stated in shock.
“Why does that make me nervous?” Willow squeaked awkwardly.
“Woah, no way!” (Y/N) exclaimed, admiring the glowing purple orb.
Trees cracked apart and Kiki Mora came forward, “There you are!” She growled in fury, “I am do–o-one playing hide-and-seek,” She shouted in a broken, exhausted voice, crouching forward in the Abomaton. She raised the arm of the machine and shot a beam at the group.
Willow acted quickly, summoning large vines from the ground. She rode on them, moving forward and blocking the beam from the others.
She summoned a magic circle and smirked, “Yup, that’s better.” She said confidently, preparing herself. She closed the trees in on Kiki, and created another vine that grabbed the robot’s arm, causing it to smack Kiki repeatedly.
Kiki broke free and steadied the arm for another firing. Clover flew out of Willow’s shirt and turned into a staff, ready for flight. Willow hopped on swiftly and flew away just as the shot missed her.
Luz, Hunter, and (Y/N) gasped nervously.
“She’s fine,” Gus replied cooly. “This is child’s play for us,” He clasped his hands together and pulled them apart to reveal four magic circles.
Suddenly, three illusions of Willow poofed into the sky, side by side of one another. They began to fly in different directions, swirling and looping before everyone. Two were destroyed almost immediately after being created.
“Woah, what did I miss?!” Luz asked in awe, watching the final illusion.
Suddenly, Willow was hit by one of Kiki’s beams. She yelped as her staff flew out of reach, and plummeted to the ground.
(Y/N) looked around worriedly, in utter panic, thinking of a way to help. They paused, recalling when they first arrived and snapped around, Oh Titan, oh, Titan, oh Titan, please work!
(Y/N) shut their eyes tightly, making a medium-sized circle. They shot up and caught Willow as she flew through the sky. They held her in their arms, carrying her down to safety. (Y/N) made an attempt to land, managing to set Willow back on the ground. Just as they were about to crash-land, Hunter flashed forward, catching (Y/N) as they awkwardly stumbled forward, gasping in fear.
Luz stared as (Y/N)’s purple, slimy wings, spread widely while Hunter held them in his arms. “I missed a lot!” She shouted angrily. “I don’t need this retched school to start my own empire," Kiki stated angrily, “I’ll make my own!” She taunted, creeping the robot towards the group. “And I’ll start by taking you apart- piece by peice! Brat. By. Brat!” She growled furiously as she pointed at them.
Kiki was suddenly hit by flaming Grudgby balls, coiling back from the attack.
“Stop right there!” Mattholume demanded from the cliff above. Kiki Mora grunted as she turned to face him. “Miki, I can’t say I’m surprised by this,” He said plainly with arms crossed. “As for you Roka,” He continued, and the robot hummed as it pointed to itself, “I know there’s been nothing but chemistry between us,” He said dramatically, flipping his lavish brown hair back with his hand. “Be that as it may I-”
“That’s a robot, Matt,” Boscha cut him off harshly.
“Mm-mm”, Mattholomule dismissed her reply as he waved his hand.
Amity glided down from the cliff with her staff. As she landed, she grabbed Luz’s hand, “They’ll hold her back! Let’s get to the skull!” She exclaimed, running forwards with the group.
(Y/N) felt Hunter tug their hand and they raced forwards together, close behind the others. They turned as they watched everyone from Hexside launch themselves at Kiki, sending her tumbling to the ground.
Everyone kept running toward the skull. Suddenly, Luz stopped and held the photo of the teleportation glyph. She began to draw it into the ground with her finger. The orb on her staff glowed brightly and it began to levitate, raising Luz off of the ground.
“Huh?” She murmured in surprise. She began to laugh as the staff twirled her in the air. “I can’t tell what you’re gonna be but… thank you, little friend!”
The others watched and pulled out there’s staffs, helping Luz create the glyph. (Y/N)  and Hunter helped engrave the patterns into the dirt, overlapping circles and shapes.
From the distance, Kiki burst through all the students who had dog-piled her. “This is MY empire now! You have to obey ME!!” She yelled, charging towards the group.
Luz watched in horror as a beam flew toward the group. She turned around, slamming her palms onto the glyph. The lines began to glow gold, and everyone levitated slightly as beams of light rose from the ground. Everyone grouped together tightly as the shot from Kiki collided with them.
(Y/N) his into Hunter’s chest, closing their eyes tightly as they felt the world shift around them. They felt cold air settle around them and Hunter’s embrace loosen slightly. (Y/N) lifted their head slowly as they opened their eyes, realizing they had made it into the skull safely.
(Y/N) jumped up in excitement, embracing Hunter tightly. “We did it! We did it! We did it!” They exclaimed happily, and Hunter returned their embrace, swinging them excitedly through the air, his own laughter bubbling. He ignored the cold goop of their wings sticking slightly to his skin.
Willow looped her arm with Amity’s, “Omygosh! Ah!” She exclaimed, jumping excitedly. “I can’t believe that actually worked!” The two girls jumped and laughed, running forwards together happily.
Camily leaned down to Hunter, her hand on her chin, “Woo-ooh! Hoo-hoo ho-ho hoo!” She laughed excitedly as Hunter let go of (Y/N) to face her. “You really beamed us up, eh O’Bailey?” She asked, nudging Hunter playfully and clasping her hands together excitedly.
Hunter and Gus locked eyes and gasped in unison, “Beam us up! Beam us up! Beam us up!!” They chanted together happily and then began to laugh with Camila. (Y/N)’s laughter began to bubble as they saw Hunter’s excitement. They knew Hunter and Gus loved those books. (Y/N) had even listened to Hunter read every Cosmic Frontier book to them.
In the distance, Luz stared into the glowing staff. It was no longer an orb, but a flurry of lights circling, hiding away the new palisman.
“Guys,” She murmured softly, “Come meet my palisman!” Everyone hushed and began to gather near.
“What kind of magical creature will it be? A dragon?” Camila kneeled down to get a better look.
“A bird?” Hunter asked, holding a fist above his palm.
“Oh! An otter!” Amity shouted excitedly..
“A spooky bat?” Willow wiggled her fingers
“Aaa snake?” Gus asked as he peeked over.
“A capybara!” (Y/N) exclaimed enthusiastically. It had been one of the mystical creatures they had come across in the human realm.
Luz smiled sweetly at them, holding the staff a bit higher, “You’re close…” She said happily.
Out of the swirling purple lights emerged a long, slim creature. It swirled into the air, spreading its wings to reveal a bat with silver, purple, and dark purple fur. It looped into the air, swirling into a ball above everyone. It unfurled and turned into a Scorpion, the rattle-like end sounding and claws snapping. It flew up, swirling and looping before changing again to reveal a dragon with a white chest and purple fur. It showed off its claws for a moment before returning it its curled position, twisting and turning before everyone. It looped in the sky as a bright light surrounded them. It emerged to reveal a snake with cat ears and a muzzle, smiling happily. It’s rattle shook again, happily greeting everyone.
"She’s a snake shifter! Her name is Stringbean and she’s perfect!!” Luz exclaimed happily as Strinbean cuddled her. The palisman levitated around the others, looping over and under each of them. The palismen left their owners to meet their newest member.
Camila stretched her arms out to the palisman. “Pero mira, que preciosos mis bebes! Ven, ven!” She called to them.
Hunter had distanced himself as he watched the palisman gather. He longed for Flapjack to have been able to meet Strinbean. He held his shirt in the same spot Flapjack had laid for the last time. The male sighed sadly and looked to the ground.
There was a sudden pattern of familiar footsteps, and Hunter locked eyes with (Y/N), blushing for a moment as they smiled at him.
“H-how are you holding up?” He asked nervously, glancing at (Y/N)’s new, goopy wings.
They smiled and looked back at them, flapping them excitedly. “I think I’ll be okay,” They replied softly. “They’re not the same but, they’ll do just fine.”
“Yeah… I like them…” He replied softly, still gripping his shirt.
“Hunter, are you okay?” They asked gently, reaching for his hand. No matter what happened, Hunter could never refuse the comfort of (Y/N)’s hand.
“I’m just… thinking about Flapjack…” He admitted quietly. Hunter sighed as (Y/N) embraced him.
“I miss him too,” They replied, holding him closely. Hunter laid his head on (Y/N)’s as he returned the hug.
“(Y/N)?” He asked nervously.
“Yeah?”
“I-I’m sorry… about everything.” He closed his eyes, wishing he could hide away from them.
“Hunter, what do you mean?” (Y/N) asked in confusion, pulling away to look at him. They held his hands in their’s, waiting for a reply.
“I mean about your wings!” He admitted as his voice broke, tears prickling his eyes. “I never meant to hurt you! I couldn’t do anything, all I could do was w-watch-” Hunter shook his head and bit his lip as his ears pulled back.
“Hunter-”
“And I was too scared to talk to you about it. I loved your wings. They were so beautiful.” His shoulders slumped as he looked away from (Y/N). “I feel horrible about it. I feel so guilty about what happened to you- about what I did.” Hunter curled his hands into fists. “If I hadn’t chased after Belos like that, your wings and Flapjack would still be here.”
(Y/N) thought for a moment, remembering everything that had happened the night of the Halloween Party. Just as they were about the leave, Willow had covered (Y/N)’s wings in vines and blossoms. The blossoms and flowers had become their burial. Everyone was to scared to actually touch them.
“Hunter,” (Y/N) said sternly, reaching for his hand. Hunter turned back to look at them, tears in his eyes. “None of this is your fault. It’s exactly like what you told Luz: Belos tricks people. He’s tricked all of us, Hunter. None of this is your fault,” (Y/N) reached up to Hunter and cupped his cheek in their hand. Hunter closed his eyes as he melted into their touch, feeling the reassurance of (Y/N)’s warmth.
Hunter sniffled as tears ran down (Y/N)’s hand. “You’re sure?” He asked nervously as he locked his eyes with theirs.
“Yes, I am sure. I don’t blame you for what happened, Hunter. I could never blame you for this,”. (Y/N) caressed Hunter’s cheek gently, tears prickling their own eyes as they saw Hunter cry gently. “I don’t want you to feel guilty for any of this, okay? Not for me, and not for Flapjack. He wouldn’t want you to be sad. After all, he did this for you,”. (Y/N) placed a hand on Hunter’s chest, and he smiled half-heartedly.
“Yeah… you’re right.” He murmured softly, placing his hand over (Y/N)’s.
“C’mere, you,” (Y/N) whispered to Hunter, pulling him down for a gentle kiss. They pulled away from Hunter and placed their forehead on his, “You are my wings. Hunter, I love you. Nothing can ever change that. Nothing from the past or in the future. I love you,” They cupped his cheeks in both hands, pulling him closer to them.
Hunter reached up slowly, his fingers gently wrapping around their wrists. He laughed lightly as his worries faded away. Every insecurity melted away into nothing when he was with (Y/N).
“I love you, (Y/N),” He whispered to them gently. (Y/N) pulled him into another kiss, connecting his lips to theirs.
“I love you, Hunter,” (Y/N) whispered back. The two smiled at each other under the night skies, laying gentle kisses on one another. They covered their faces in soft pecks and their lips in warm kisses. Together they stood, against everything. Together, under the glowing stars in each others arms.

HELL YEAH
We Have Each Other - Hunter x Nonbinary!/GN! Reader
T/W: It's angsty. There is crying and feelings of insecurity.
FOR THE FUTURE SPOILERS!!!!
(Y/N) walked through the portal. They felt as if they could breathe again; they were finally back home. They looked around the terrain they had stepped foot on. There was a small clearing in front of them. They looked back and saw that the portal seemed to be some sort of a gate. Hunter, Amity, Gus, and Willow had all made it through already and stood in the clearing. Camila soon came after (Y/N).
“Oh, Luz was right behind me-” She said, turning back around and looking at the portal, ”Did she get lost? How do these… portals, work?” She asked, looking into the ever-changing portal.
“These portals open up a gateway to other realms…” Hunter spoke, coming forwards. “This one was much more stable than the one we used to get into the human realm…” His now brown pupils stared into the portal. Wait… brown?? (Y/N) froze in their thoughts for a moment. Hunter’s eyes had always been a deep magenta, how had they become brown? Their thoughts broke as Hunter spoke again, “It doesn’t make sense; she should have come out by now.”
Camila stared uneasily into the portal. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait then…” The group stood around impatiently. (Y/N) looked over to Hunter as everyone stood in silence. He was visibly uneasy; they didn’t know if anyone wasn’t uneasy. How could they possibly comfort him after such a tragic loss? (Y/N) sighed and looked away sadly, poor Hunter,,,
After a long wait, Amity finally stepped towards the portal and reached in. Everyone watched anxiously for a sign of Luz. Suddenly, Amity perked up, “Hold on! I think I’ve got her!” She reached in her other arm, then pulled back, revealing Luz’s feet as he tugged her out. Luz then rumbled out of the portal and landed harshly on the ground. (Y/N) sighed with relief seeing Luz had finally made it out.
“Luz!” Amity exclaimed, looking down at her, “You were in there for so long, we thought you got stuck behind!” Amity began to inspect Luz and lifted her chin, “Are you hurt anywhere?” She asked.
Luz smiled at Amity and drew her hand away from her face, “I’m- I’m fine.” She croaked weakly. She stared in thought for a moment, “I saw something- or someone- but, it was probably just in my head…” She muttered. Luz stood up and looked around. “Any sign of… him?” She asked uncomfortably.
“Oh, come on!” Hunter muttered angrily, “It’s not like a swarm of ghosts will inexplicably appear if you say his name!” he exclaimed, then paused for a moment as he raised his hand to his face. He placed his hand over his chin, and remained silent for a moment “... I think…” (Y/N) smiled. After he had been on edge for a while, Luz was now the one on edge.
“I think a swarm of ghosts would be the least scary threat right now,” (Y/N) said to Hunter, and he looked up to meet their eyes.
He thought for a moment and sighed, “Yeah, I think you’re right.” He looked away, “Anyway, if Belos was here, he’s long gone now,” Hunter muttered again.
Camila lifted her red baseball bat into her hands threateningly. “Well, he better stay out of our way. This mama’s HUNGRY for vengeance!” She exclaimed, glaring into the clearing.
Gus smiled, “Now that is a fight I’d watch!”
(Y/N) laughed, “Count me in!”
The group began walking through the clearing and (Y/N) kept their eyes on Hunter. He had stayed apart from the rest and simply looked around cautiously. (Y/N) became distracted as they took in their surroundings and looked around. They couldn’t help but feel that they had taken all of the beautiful landscape for granted.
Suddenly, (Y/N)’s thoughts were broken by the clicking and chirping of a bird. They jumped, scared and confused by the familiar sound. As they located it, they realized it was red. The bird flew away suddenly and disappeared from sight.
Hunter grunted in frustration as he pulled at his hair, “We don’t have time for red grass or… illusions!” He shouted impatiently. He began to march forward angrily, “Belos had a head start- so we should keep MOVING until we find him!”
(Y/N) sighed sadly and watched as he left. They couldn’t help but feel he was pushing away his pain for Flapjack. He didn’t even pause for a minute he saw the bird. They watched him worriedly and finally kept moving forward. Their thoughts began to trail to the discomfort of the group as a whole. (Y/N) looked up at them for a moment, their familiar yet worried faces stirring a discomfort in their soul.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
The group had come to the Owl House only to find it in an abandoned state. There was graffiti and colorful markings covering the walls, but the house was empty, and the windows were broken. Everyone had looked around for a sign of anyone, but there was nothing.
(Y/N) decided to come outside and keep an eye on what was going on. They sat outside the house and looked around, watching Hunter pace anxiously. (Y/N) frowned again and began playing with their hands nervously, unsure of what to do. They had wanted to talk to them, but they hesitated each time they had a chance.
Suddenly, Hunter snapped around, “Stop!”  (Y/N) jolted back as Hunter demanded angrily, waving his arm at Gus and Willow’s palismen. “STOP FOLLOWING ME!” He bellowed furiously at the small creatures. Hunter ran his fingers through his hair in frustration and motioned with his other hand. “Belos could be anywhere by now and we’re just… SITTING HERE!”
There was a sudden rustling in the foliage and (Y/N)’s ears perked. Hunter jumped in fright and put his hands in position to summon his staff. He tensed for a moment and (Y/N)’s own heart sank in pain: Flapjack was gone, yet he still had the habit of relying on him. Hunter’s shoulders tensed, and he shook his head wildly as if he could remove his thoughts by doing so. He grunted in frustration and stomped away. (Y/N) sighed again and watched as he paced on. (Y/N) rested their head on their knees and continued watching him.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅…
The group had found Hexside or… whatever it had become. As they were welcomed into the school, they saw what remained of it. The school seemed to have descended into anarchy as several different students had gone off and branched into smaller, equally chaotic groups.
They had met the new leader of the remains of Hexside…Boscha. No one had been thrilled to meet her or her new… assistant. As (Y/N) examined the two, they couldn’t help but sense that something seemed familiar about the small… gremlin.
After Boscha refused to assist them, they followed Mattholomule, or rather Captain Tholomule, around. Apparently, his last name had been Tholomule the entire time. (Y/N) followed the others around mindlessly, trying to process everything going on.
(Y/N) could feel the tension within the group. Everyone was holding back something, somehow. Everything had happened so quickly yet they pushed through at such a rigorous pace. (Y/N) sighed, hugging themselves as they moved. They couldn’t help but feel that their friends were starting to crack apart: why else would they be in the state they were in? At least Luz has her mom, they thought sadly, wishing everyone could be comforted.
As they approached Mattholomule’s secret room, (Y/N) looked over at Hunter. He seemed uneasy but stayed quiet, he kept his head low as they all followed Mattholume.
Gus looked over a corner and ducked as some younger witches sprinted past chaotically. After they disappeared, he pulled back and looked at the group. “Okay,” He said, giving Mattholomule a thumbs up, “Coast is clear.”
Mattholomule smiled confidently and turned to the wall. He drew a wide circle around it, and then placed both hands over it to complete the spell. Suddenly, it opened up to reveal a secret door with a sign saying KEEP OUT! in red.
Mattholume led the group around the room, “This is where me and Jerbo have been trying to come up with plans to make Hexside more livable,” He explained. (Y/N) looked around the room in amazement. It was covered with plans and posters everywhere. Despite the awfully big mess, all the papers, posters, and sketches were very well organized.
The group chattered in amazement and uttered new plans, (Y/N) focused their attention on Hunter. He sat had sat in a corner on some wooden crates. They sighed again uneasily, wishing they could comfort him. Just seeing how tense he was hurt (Y/N). They chose to come up with their own plan and stayed near a chalkboard. They shifted uneasily over and over again, their gaze constantly moving from Hunter to the group, and back to Hunter. Everyone needed comfort and reassurance, but they couldn’t help but feel that Hunter needed it most.
Suddenly, they heard the group begin to talk excitedly. As they watched, they quickly realized that Luz had retrieved her memory of the glyph Belos had once used. The excitement stirred a feeling of hope within (Y/N); maybe their friends would be all right after all.
“Finally, we can get moving again,” Hunter muttered, rising and approaching the others. As he made his way towards them, Willow came up to him.
“Before we go,” She began cheerily, “Look what I found.” She handed Hunter a photograph. Hunter’s eyes widened and his expression softened for a moment. He stared intently at the picture: It was a photograph of him and Flapjack after they had won Flyer Derby.
Gus approached the two and stood next to Willow, “We’re all going to miss Flapjack, but we know he loved you most,” he said softly.
“And we just want to let you know,” Willow said, waving her hand dismissively, “We don’t care about who you’re supposed to be, ‘cause you’re one of us now. Never forget that.” Willow smiled at Hunter and watched him eagerly.
Hunter’s eyes began to water and he looked up at the two. (Y/N) felt their heart sink as they watched from afar. It was the same pain he had been carrying since the moment he knew Flapjack was gone. Hunter’s ears pulled back as he fought tears, and looked at the two sadly.
Everyone tensed for a moment. ‘Hunter, are you okay?” Luz asked, standing up.
Hunter looked at the others, “I…” He looked back at the photo, and paused for a moment “...Don’t know…” He whispered softly.
(Y/N) felt unease take over them as the whole room shifted uncomfortably. Before they knew what was happening, Willow and Gus were out of the room, and Hunter was going after them.
Oh no, not now… (Y/N) thought to themself. Their group hand finally started to tear. “Hunter!” They called out desperately, trying to catch up. Come back, please… please…

“Oh, Flapjack,” Hunter whispered, “Everyone’s on edge and I don’t know what to say. I wish you were here…” Hunter curled into a small ball on the ground and hugged himself. (Y/N)’s heart sank again as they watched from the rubble. They sighed, not knowing if they could comfort him. How could they comfort him? Flapjack had been his everything: his palisman, his source of magic, his first friend, his best friend. Flapjack was the mark of Hunter’s turning point, his reason to defy Belos, his reason for everything. Now he was… gone. (Y/N) finally moved forward and caught up to Hunter. As they approached, they noticed there were little vines growing around him.
“Hunter?” (Y/N) called out gently, “He snapped up to look at them. An embarrassed blush ran ablaze across his face.
“(Y)-(Y/N)!” He exclaimed, surprised and somewhat embarrassed, “I didn’t realize you were here.” He shifted around awkwardly. Hunter looked away from (Y/N), attempting to hide the few tears pricking his eyes.
“Yeah I- I kinda got lost in some of the rubble…” They said, looking back at the direction they came from. (Y/N) sighed again, “Hunter?” They called his name gently, but he refused to meet their eyes. They sighed, kneeling next to him and finally speaking, hoping they could comfort him. “You’ve been holding back on grieving. I… I know you’re in a lot of pain…”
He tensed, looking at (Y/N) for a split second. Hunter looked away hastily, “I… I know…” He murmured as he hid his face in his arms. He trembled slightly and (Y/N) sat down next to him.
“You know it’s okay to feel like this, right?” They spoke softly to him and he looked up, surprised.
He looked away for a moment and thought, “What do you mean by ‘okay’?” He asked them softly. He thought for a moment, “This feels… horrible…” his voice broke slightly as he spoke, and  (Y/N) wrapped their arm around Hunter gently.
“I mean that it’s okay to have these feelings. I know it’s not a good feeling, and I know it hurts. But sometimes…” They leaned Hunter onto them slowly, “sometimes… we need to hurt to heal.”
Hunter began sniffling. He trembled, then dug his face hastily into (Y/N), and began to cry. (Y/N) rubbed his back soothingly, hoping their touch would comfort him.
“I-I know…” He finally murmured, tears streaming down his face and onto (Y/N). “I-… I just miss him…” Hunter was barely able to choke out his words. (Y/N) felt him tense again in their arms, “I just miss him so much!” He shook fervently, gasps and heartbroken whimpers escaping his lips. “I wasn’t even with him for long…” He turned his face to look up at (Y/N). His eyes were red and full of tears and pain, he bit his lip trying to control his crying. His brows furrowed upward, almost as if he were pleading for them to take away his pain.
(Y/N) smiled gently at Hunter, “I don’t think any of us get enough time with those we love…”  They soothed. Hunter’s eyes widened for a moment in thought, and he began to blush.
He hid his face in (Y/N)’s lap again, “Yeah… You’re right.” He started to control his breathing and (Y/N) recognized it: It was Gus’s calm-down method! (Y/N) smiled softly as they ran their fingers through his hair, and Hunter melted into their gentle touch.
“Have you ever felt safe to feel like this?” Hunter curled up tightly for a moment as he thought, remembering every tragic and traumatic moment he had lived.
“No…” He said coldly, “I wasn’t ever safe to show any weakness in the castle or in the Emperor’s Coven.” He continued breathing.
“Oh, Hunter, this isn’t a weakness.” They soothed gently, and Hunter began crying softly again.
“I-I know…” He whispered gently, “I just never felt safe- except around Flapjack-” His voice broke and he cried in (Y/N)’s lap. “I’ve only ever felt safe around Flapjack and you…” He froze for a moment, “Youuuu guuuuys…?” He looked away, embarrassed, but it was no use. He couldn’t hide from (Y/N), especially when his pointed ears were burning bright red.
(Y/N) smiled to themself as they continued caressing him. He had been so comforted by (Y/N)’s touch that he hadn’t realized it was (Y/N)’s touch.
Hunter curled up for a moment shyly, but finally accepted where he was. “Thank you, (Y/N)...” He thought for a moment, unsure of whether it was a good moment. “I’m… I’m sorry for… how I’ve treated you and the others while we’ve been here.” He rested his head on (Y/N), “I just… I’m scared of losing someone else I…” He hesitated, “I love…” He murmured softly.
“Hey,” (Y/N) replied softly, “No matter what happens, you’ll always have me, Hunter. I promise.”
Hunter laughed lightly, and hid into (Y/N), “Thank you…”
He continued breathing, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly. He nuzzled (Y/N)’s side nervously again as a thought crossed his mind. “Umm, (Y/N)?” He asked gently. The young male nervously waited for a response, debating on what to say to them next.
“Yeah?” They replied softly, fingers tangled in his hair as they comforted him.
Hunter turned to look up at them, “You know you’ll always have me too, right?” Hunter asked sympathetically, looking into (Y/N)’s (e/c) eyes. Their breath hitched and they froze for a moment. His words panged their heart and they looked away impulsively, hastily.
(Y/N) felt a sudden knot in their throat and tensed further, attempting to control themselves. They had been so focused on Hunter they hadn’t even dared to take in how they felt. His words caused a flurry of feelings as they accepted everything. They had been so worried about their group falling apart, about Hunter grieving, they hadn’t let themselves feel anything. They had become numb to protect the others, and they had been alone.
“I-...” Hunter sighed, “I noticed how uneasy you’ve been,” he said, speaking gently. “I didn’t know what to do- I don’t know what to do-” he confessed, rising up and kneeling with them. Hunter set his hands on his knees and stared at the ground.
(Y/N) was staring in the opposite direction, feeling tears well up in their eyes. They had tried so desperately to find a way to hold their group together, they had neglected themselves. They swallowed with difficulty and tried controlling their own breath. The more effort they used, the more control they lost over themself.
“(Y/N)!” Hunter exclaimed as he noticed their tears, feeling his own tears return to his eyes. They cried numbly, completely overwhelmed. They couldn’t feel anything except the moisture of the tears and the tingling in their stiff fingers. Hunter fidgeted frantically, “(Y/N)! P-please don’t cry!” He pleaded desperately, “(Y/N) it’s okay! I-I’m here!” He cried, his shoulders slumping in agony as he watched their tears stream out, feeling his burn against his cheek.
Hunter reached for them and embraced (Y/N) tightly, pulling them close to him. “(Y-Y/N), please don’t cry…” He begged again, “It’s okay, you have me. I’m… I’m here for you- I’ll always be here for you,” he tried to reassure them. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N)’s arms wrap around him, and he squeezed them in return. They gripped him tightly, their fingers digging into him, as everything they welled up came flooding out. Hunter began to cry again, and in moments the two were sobbing together.
“I-” (Y/N) choked on their words and fought for their breath, unable to speak. “I-I was t-tryig to comfort y-you b-but,” They laughed half-heartedly, “I guess I needed it too…” (Y/N) laughed again between their tears and whimpers.
Hunter smiled, “I’m starting to think we all needed some reassurance,” He chuckled between his gasps for air. “But…” He started, digging his face into (Y/N)’s neck, “I needed this. Thank you, (Y/N)”
(Y/N) pulled away from Hunter, “Of course, anything for you.”
Hunter’s ears pulled back in surprise, and a rosy blush grew across his face. He smiled shyly at (Y/N), and he opened his mouth to speak again. “(Y/N), I-”
“AAAH!” The scream echoed through the tunnel, and the two snapped toward its direction.
“Gus!” They shouted in unison.
“C’mon!” (Y/N) exclaimed as they rose up, giving Hunter their hand. He took it and rose up quickly. The two witches ran down the tunnel desperately, hoping their friend was all right.

Everyone watched with amazement as String Bean levitate around the others. The other palisman gathered around her and ran to Camila. Hunter smiled from afar, wishing Flapjack could have met her.
He suddenly felt a light tug on his pinky, and to his right to meet (Y/N)’s eyes. “Huh?” He asked in confusion.
(Y/N) smiled, “Hey, how are you feeling?” They asked softly.
Hunter began to feel his heartbeat pick up its pace, “I’m feeling better, I just…” His view shifted to the palismen. “I wish Flap could have met her.” He smiled sadly, “I still miss him…” He murmured softly.
(Y/N) took his whole hand in theirs and squeezed it tightly, “Hunter, there’s no rush in grieving. You’ll always miss him- and so will I,” They explained to him. “It’ll hurt less, but we’ll always miss our loved ones.”
His heart skipped a beat, and he turned away shyly. “(Y/N)? Remember what I said? About always being there when you need me?” They nodded and hummed an ‘mhm’. He exhaled nervously. “(Y-Y/N), I-...I really meant it!” He sputtered out quickly. His face began to turn red and a dark blush burned the tip of his ears. “I-I didn’t just say it to make you feel better or- or because it w-was the r-right thing to s-say!” He trembled nervously and stuttered, almost unable to catch his breath.
“What do you mean?” (Y/N) asked gently. Hunter began to feel his heart throbbing in his ears.
Hunter looked into (Y/N)’s eyes. “I mean that I… I want to be with you. I want to be by your side, always!” His grip tightened on their hand and (Y/N) began to blush, feeling their heart race. “(Y/N) I really want to be with you… Maybe… maybe we could give it a try? Once this is all over?” His heart beat so viscously he didn’t know if it would stay in his chest.
(Y/N) looked away shyly and thought for a moment. Hunter held his breath anxiously. They turned back to face him, a bashful smile on their face. “Hunter I would love to. And… I also meant that you’d always have me. It’d… it’d be nice to be with you, always.” Hunter could barely breathe or think straight, or at all. He looked down and saw their intertwined hands.
“R-really?!” He asked in disbelief, and (Y/N) nodded happily.
“Of course! I’d love to be with you.”
Hunter bit his lip shyly, “Like… Like Luz and Amity?” He felt his blush darken and burn down to his neck.
(Y/N) laughed lightly and smiled, their own blush burning brightly. “Yeah,” they replied, “Like Luz and Amity.”
Hunter smiled shyly, “Cool…” He murmured, and (Y/N) smiled.
(Y/N) leaned to Hunter, closing their eyes, and pecked his cheek lightly. Hunter looked away shyly but smiled to himself. As (Y/N) pulled back, they saw the small tears of joy in Hunter’s eyes and the bashful smile. They smiled at each other shyly, and (Y/N) cupped Hunter’s cheek, bringing his forehead to theirs.
“Whatever we go through, we’ll go through it together. I promise.” (Y/N) whispered softly to him. Hunter smiled, finally feeling the security and love he always longed for. The two stood together, enjoying their peaceful moment from within the skull, under the stars.
A/N: My grades were coming out this week so I wasn't able to post last week. I hope you like it! I loved the idea and write as much as I could lol. Thank you so much for requesting!

T/w: Mildly suggestive?? Idunno they kinda french kiss… for a bit... They cuddle on a bed. He leaves love bites. I’m sorry
Request By: WinterBlue_Angel22
Prompt:  Hi! ✨️ Can I request a fluffy long oneshot with prompts: "Um, H-hunter, d-do you w-want to m-makeout with m-me?", "W-what? A-are y-you s-sure, Y/n?", [French kisses where they trace every tooth with their tongues as though trying to memorize them.], [Tucking his hands beneath his shy!female!human!reader's shirt, just to watch she breaks the kiss and gasp in surprise at the sensation of his warm hands on her skin.] and "W-wow, that is so a-amazing, H-hunter." about Hunter and his shy!female!human!reader are having our first makeout session together on bed in guest room at Luz's house on Human Realm when everyone was gone for movie night? What kind of reaction Hunter has when she shyly asked him to want our first makeout session with her? 🤭 I bet he will be shy blushing mess to it, haha. 😂 Hint#1: suggestive moments ⚠️: french kisses and hickey. Hint#2: She gets makeout idea from Luz and Amity. 🤣 At end, Hunter angrily chases to catch Luz and Amity around Luz's house for corrupting his shy human girlfriend's innocence. 🤣 I really live for flustered Hunter! 💗 Please??
Hunter and his girlfriend had stayed home at Camila’s while everyone else had gone out to watch a movie. Hunter, however, preferred to stay home to watch a movie. This way he wouldn’t be bothering anyone with his reactions of sudden excitement, fear, or random theories and predictions. (Y/N) didn’t mind any of this though; she loved hearing him.
The two decided to watch a movie together on the couch instead. They picked one out called the Megamind. The couple cuddled together on the couch as the movie played on.
Hunter and his friends had been in the Human Realm for several months. He enjoyed it there. At first, he was scared about what would happen next. Everything had happened to suddenly. He was horrified of the thought that his friend would find out if he was a Grimwalker. Things had gotten better, however, when he met (Y/N). He found her on one of the group’s outings to discover more about the human realm.
He looked down at her curled up form and pulled her closer. He remembered how time stopped when he saw her at the park. And then he saw her again at a store, then almost a dozen times everywhere, and then at the park again where Luz finally convinced him to talk to her; that was when it all started. Hunter had always been slightly awkward around others, especially since he never interacted with witches his age until he met Luz and her friends. Now, he had a human girlfriend! He never thought much about it, but sometimes he wondered what would happen once they found a way back into the Demon Realm.
After being about halfway through the movie, he noticed (Y/N) was getting a bit cuddlier. Hunter smiled to himself and he pulled her closer. After a few moments, (Y/N) broke the silence, “Um, H-hunter?” He turned to look down at her again. Her face had gained a deep blush and he smiled, “Yeah?” he asked sweetly. She hid her face in his arm. “D-do you w-want to m-make out with m-me?” she stammered shyly. Hunter blushed madly, “W-what?!” He squeaked, feeling the red burning in his ears. He had never kissed (Y/N) before. He already found that cuddling was a big jump- he hadn’t ever thought that she’d ask to make out!
Hunter’s face was a deep crimson, and he shuffled around shyly on the couch; she wanted to kiss him! He turned away nervously, feeling his heart race: he could hear it throbbing in his ears. He exhaled shyly and danced his fingers over his leg.
He finally stirred up the courage to speak again and looked at her, “A-are y-you s-sure, (Y/N)?” He asked shyly. He felt a knot in his throat: he had never had an intimate relationship with anyone. What was he going to do?
“Mhm,” she hummed. Hunter felt his heart skip a few dozen beats. His ears bent backwards and he bit his lip, Oh my Titan, what do I do?!
“Oh,”  He murmured gently, feeling her nuzzle his arm. His mind was racing and so was his heart. Hunter looked away shyly and shifted around on the couch. He pulled his legs up and curled them around (Y/N). He had no idea where to start.
He shifted again, making (Y/N) sit up while he did so. He locked eyes with her for a split moment, but he hastily looked away again. After another few moments, he curled his hands into fists as if he was ready to face a fight, and let out a breath.
“O-ok!” Hunter said, smiling. He was excited, but more so nervous. He didn’t think he even understood the concept of a romantic relationship yet. “Really?!” (Y/N) exclaimed, jumping up with delight. Hunter nodded shyly, his ears bending back and turning red.
(Y/N) giggled happily and embraced Hunter, pecking his cheek as she did so. Hunter’s eyes widened and he blushed madly, his light skin darkening into a deep red. He wrapped his arms around (Y/N) slowly, nervously, pulling her closer to him.
She pulled away from the peck and smiled at him. Hunter felt his heart melt and his entire body relax. His gaze softened as he stared at (Y/N)’s deep pools of (e/c).
Hunter leaned down and pecked her lips lightly, feeling a sudden wave of nervousness and excitement wash over him. A blush ran ablaze across his face from ear to ear. He pulled back hastily and looked away shyly, and (Y/N) did the same.
“I-I’m sorry, (Y/N),” he squeaked bashfully, “um… I’m- I’m just nervous…” he hugged his arms nervously.
“It’s OK,” (Y/N) reassured him softly, “We don’t have to if you don’t want to, Hunter.”
He froze for a moment, feeling his heart sink as he realized. No one had ever offered him to not do something. He had always been demanded and expected to do as told. Hunter sighed; he wanted to. He wanted to do so much with (Y/N) but he was too nervous. He was surprised he had even been able to ask her to be his girlfriend.
“No, it’s-” He stammered nervously, “It’s n-not that I don’t want too…” He blushed madly, visible nervousness on his face. “I…” Hunter hesitated, then sighed, “I just… I don’t know how!” He finally confessed, locking eyes with her. His eyes were sad and full of worry. His ears had bent back in shame.
“Oh, Hunter,” (Y/N) soothed gently and placed her hand over his. “Don’t worry,” she said gently. “I… I-I can… show you…” She offered, blushing deeply. Hunter looked away for a moment, but looked back and nodded shyly. He almost looked like a sad puppy!
Tumblr media
She smiled at him, “OK…” She exhaled, “Ready?” He smiled and nodded sheepishly. “OK, let’s try again.”
She pressed her lips against Hunter’s, closing her eyes. Hunter flinched slightly, and his pointed ears bent back again. He froze, feeling the warmth of (Y/N)’s lips against his. Slowly, he closed his eyes and melted into the kiss.
(Y/N) pulled away smiling at him; the two were a blushing mess. They began pecking each other randomly, shyly kissing each other’s faces and lips. Every time Hunter pecked (Y/N), she blushed a bit more, feeling a thousand butterflies fluttering throughout her body.
Hunter then sat again, and shifted himself towards (Y/N). He sat down, crossing his legs on the couch. Slowly he leaned towards her again and pecked her lightly. Hunter didn’t fully pull away, he stayed close enough to keep kissing her gently.
Finally, Hunter’s hands slowly went up to her, and he cupped each of her cheeks. He pulled her towards him, and he kissed her for a long time
Hunter pressed his lips against hers, almost as if he wanted to taste her. This was everything he never knew he wanted. He had never felt the warmth of someone else, he had never felt loved or wanted. All he had ever been was useful to Belos. Not anymore though; he didn’t care if he was useful anymore. Now he felt loved and he knew what he wanted: Hunter wanted to be with (Y/N).
He pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as he did so. Hunter began to feel the starvation take control of him, it was in every bit of his body. He didn’t understand what it was but he knew how to satisfy the intense hunger his heart felt: every time he pulled her closer a bit of the starvation lessened.
Hunter pulled her even closer to him. He kissed her amorously and (Y/N) kissed back. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N)’s hands curling around his wrists. Her gentle fingers wrapped around him and pulled him closer to her. Hunter melted again. His face was hot, his mind was racing, and his heart was both racing and melting.
(Y/N) then pressed her lips against his even more. She tilted her head and deepened the kiss. She wanted to get a taste of Hunter. She then bit his lip lightly and he froze for a moment in surprise. He had… liked it. It was like she wanted him close too.
Although they had kissed for a while, Hunter was still nervous about how to continue. Suddenly, he felt (Y/N) part her lip slightly. The warmth of her tongue surprised him yet also soothed him in way. Her tongue began to trace every bit of his mouth, and he followed. They kissed each other passionately as if desperately trying to remember one another.
The two finally pulled apart and were a blushing mess. Hunter looked over to see the credits playing on the TV screen, then he looked over to the front door. He swung his feet over the couch and stood up. He blushed lightly at the idea but continued anyway.
“C’mon,” He said, picking up (Y/N) bridal-style, “Let’s go somewhere more private.”
(Y/N) blushed madly but giggled, “H-Hunter!” She said smiling. (Y/N) hid her face in his chest as he carried her up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. Hunter laid her next to him on the bed and began pecking her face and kissing her softly again. Between the kisses Hunter would nuzzle her lightly making (Y/N) smile. She wrapped her arms around Hunter and kept him close to her.
Hunter kissed her passionately again and again. He slipped his hands under her shirt, feeling (Y/N)’s back as he did so; her skin was soft and warm. (Y/N) gasped suddenly, breaking the kiss and pulling away.
“H-Hunter!!” She squeaked, pulling her shoulders in slightly as if she was trying to hide. He laughed lightly to himself, looking at (Y/N) and pecking her cheeks. Hunter smiled, he had no idea how wonderful loving and being loved could feel.
Hunter started to cuddle her. He didn’t even know what he was doing. All he knew was that he wanted to feel close to her. He began to kiss her jawline and slowly make his way down her neck. Hunter nuzzled her lightly, wanting to hide away in her soft skin.
(Y/N) smiled shyly as Hunter went on. She gasped suddenly when she felt a little nip on her neck, and then another, and another…
“H… Hunter…” She stammered softly, “Sweetheart, what are you up to?” Hunter smiled for a moment, but stopped hastily.
“Oh uh…” His ears pulled back suddenly as fear took over his heart. Had he done something wrong? “I-I,” He blushed in shame, “I... I’m s-sorry (Y/N)...” He began to lift himself onto his side. “Did… did you… like that?” He felt his heart race unsteadily. Maybe Belos wasn’t the only one who didn’t want him anymore…
“Mhm,” She hummed gently. She pulled him back in even closer and Hunter felt himself melt. He melted anytime (Y/N) had made him feel wanted.
He smiled, kissing her passionately this time. “Well, I guess I’ll continue then.”
(Y/N) laughed, “Hunter! You’re so sweet!” Hunter smiled at her. He nuzzled her again and continued leaving little love bites all over her neck.
The two cuddled for a while. Suddenly, a thought broke Hunter out of the moment.
“Hey, uh, (Y/N),” he asked, his focus intently on nothing.
“Yeah?” She hummed.
“Ummm…” Hunter frowned slightly in thought, trying to think of a way he could ask. He knew (Y/N) well enough to know she was quite innocent and sweet. “How… uh… why, I guess, did you think of… making out?” He squeaked the last few words.
(Y/N) blushed, her eyes opened and she hid into Hunter. “Um… I accidentally… maybe… walked into Luz and Amity??” She replied nervously.
“Huh.” He said, pulling (Y/N) closer. “Good to know…”
He hid into her chest, “(Y/N)?” he nervously called her name.
She smiled. His voice and been soft and full of nervousness. She knew he needed comfort and spoke gently, “Yes, Dear?” He melted in her arms. Hunter bit his lip for a moment.
“I-I… I love you…”
She kissed his forehead gently, “I love you, Hunter.” He felt ease in his heart, and a sudden completion of his soul. This was what he had been starved from: (Y/N)’s love.

After a while of cuddling, the two finally heard everyone coming back. They made their way downstairs and towards the front door to greet them. Hunter, however, had something else in mind. He was quite flustered and ready to face it.
As everyone made their way into the house, Hunter looked for Luz and Amity. Everyone was talking about the movie they had watched and how great it was. Guz and Willow were visibly excited to have experienced a ‘Human Movie’.
Hunter finally spotted them. “LUZ! AMITY!” He called out to them sternly. The two girls froze and stared at him in silence.
“Um…” Luz broke the silence, “What is it?” She stared at him and (Y/N).
“(Y/N) told me she got a little idea from you too…” He glared at them with arms crossed. “She said you two were ‘making out’ in front of her… Care to explain?”
They both blushed madly, and Luz was the first to speak. “How much did you see?!” (Y/N) blushed again, looking away.
“Um… a… a bit…?” She murmured, unsure of what to say.
Hunter ran at the girls, “YOU TWO CORRUPTED HER!”
“AGH!” The two shouted in unison. Luz grabbed Amity’s hand and dragged her with her. They ran around the couch, into the kitchen, all over the first floor trying to escape Hunter.
“Niños! Calmense, por favor!" Camila begged them to stop and calm down. It was utterly useless. Hunter was determined to get them.
Everyone else laughed at them. (Y/N) watched Hunter and smiled to herself. If he was willing to protect her innocence, he was willing to protect her from any harm. She blushed lightly and laughed. This is gonna be a long night.

Eager to Learn - Hunter x Fem! Human! Reader (Part 1)
THANKS TO THEM SPOILERS
Hunter was struggling with too much in the Demon Realm. The image of Belos’ disgusting, deformed mutation, and his pale face standing out; it terrified him.
“Hunter, why are you hurting me? I only wanted to help you!”
He shuddered, remembering how his face immediately turned back into that of a monsters’. And that’s just what he is… a monster…
His mind trailed off again, remembering when he realized he was a Grimalker. His eyes teared slightly, and he looked around at everyone else still trying to gather themselves in Camila’s snug home. He realized Luz had gone off to the bathroom, and so he made his way towards her, the thought of being a Grimwalker still fresh in his mind.
After months, Hunter was thriving in the Human Realm. He had learned and picked up “human hobbies” that fascinated him; he even sewed his very own shirt! Rather than having the sigil of the Golden Guard on it, it had three of the same gorgeous animals he had fallen in love with: wolves. He was excited about his shirt, but it wasn’t done quite yet. And so he put together a very fashionable set of clothes for an outing today. Of course, he needed to hide his ears so he put a beanie over them.
Usually the Hexide Squad would wander around together, Luz leading the way and everyone following, learning the wonders of the enchanting human realm. Today, Hower, Hunter wasn’t in the mood to be around the others. He thought he had seen Belos and it tormented him to think that maybe he still existed. He thought Belos was dead after The Collector flicked him into a wall but, was he?
Hunter shivered slightly at the thought. He looked up from the sidewalk and to the shops to the left of him: A library! He had been doing research on Gravesfield and its history of witch hunting, hoping he could get some answers. Witch Hunter: Is that why Belos named him that? No, no, no. Not now. Don’t think, don’t think, you’ll be fine…
Hunter walked in and was flooded with the smell of paper and books. The library was rather empty. There was a walkway that led to a counter where a young girl stood. To the left of it were some shelves and tables, and to the right there were computers and more shelves.
“Oh hello there!” Hunter flinched back to the sound of the girl welcoming him, “Welcome to the Gravesfield Library!” Hunter made his way towards the counter.
“Uh, hi…” He said shyly, “Uh… nice place you got here.” He said, admiring the shelves full of books. He had always loved studying different things. He was fascinated by books and the immeasurable knowledge they held. But he could never share what he learned; he knew better than to admire wild magic. No, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just… him…
“Oh, thank you!” She chirped, “We try to keep it as comfortable and welcoming as we can. Say, I don’t recognize you, are you new here?” Hunter’s face flushed red: had he just been caught? What would she do? Should he run and hide? “Uhh- I- uh- yes!” He responded quickly, “I’m new and I’m staying with a friend. I just, uh, wanted to learn more about the town since it’s so, uh- full of history! And… intriguing?” She smiled at him.
“Oh sure! We have tons of history about Gravesfield. This old town goes back to the 1600s!” She explained.
“Huh, you don’t say.” He replied, crossing his arms. “It’s incredible the change that can go on in a few hundred years.”
“Sure is!” She replied. “Anyways, if you wanna find out more about Gravesfield, we have some books over there, in the History section” she said, pointing to her right. “Look for the books under ‘Gravesfield,’ they should have a blue tag on them.” Hunter looked to his left and saw what he was looking for.
“Oh, thank you- uhh..”
“(Y/N)! I’m (Y/N).” She said, and Hunter blushed lightly. He had never heard that name before. It sounded lovely.
“Oh, well. Nice to meet you, (Y/N). I’m Hunter.” He smiled softly at her. He could feel the tips of his pointed ears burning.
“Well, Hunter, if you need anything I’ll be right here.” She flashed a smile at him. “Oh, and welcome to Gravesfield by the way! I hope you like it here.” He smiled at her.
“Thank you! And yeah, I do like it here.”
Despite everything, Hunter felt at home in the human realm. How strange was it to feel at home somewhere he’d never been in? Is it a part of me that’s human and feels back at home? He froze. Was he the only Grimwalker to survive long enough to see the human realm? He felt his hands begin to shake and decided to look for his book.
After a while of looking, pulling out different books, and realizing that the dust on them meant nobody cared for these books, he found a few that interested him. They were about the old witch hunters of Gravesfield and the newer books were a revision of Gravesfield. (Y/N) had been right, there was a ton of history to learn.
He made his way back to the checkout counter. Was he excited to see (Y/N) again? He felt slightly nervous about approaching her.
As he went up to her, she looked up from her computer and smiled, “Oh wow! You weren’t joking when you said you wanted to find out more!” He smiled shyly at her. “Heh heh… Yeah. I guess you could say I’m quite the researcher.” She smiled at him.
“All right, well, since you’re new here I’m gonna assume you don’t have a library card. All you need to do is fill out this sheet and I’ll give you your own card in a minute! We have plenty of personalizable designs.” She pulled out a laminated sheet of paper with little examples of different designs. One caught his eyes: one with a wolf on it!
“Oh! Can I have that one?!” He asked excitedly, and (Y/N) giggled seeing his enthusiasm.
“You sure can. Here, I’ll load the card into the machine and you can give me the sheet back when you’re done.” She took the laminated sheet back and pulled out an empty plastic card from a bin on her desk. She walked towards a machine and Hunter got to work filling out his information.
It only asked for basic information like his name, age, contact information and address. He figured he’d put Camila’s information where he could, knowing he didn’t have the rest of the information the Human Realm required for humans.
“(Y/N)! I’m done!” He said happily, looking at his work. He was more excited about the library card then about actually reading the books at this point.
“Awesome!” I’ll be right back with your card!” She took his paper, input the information into the machine, and in a few minutes she had a library card just for him. “OK, this card is free, but a replacement will be five dollars, so be careful! You can check out as many books as you like but we have a limit of two weeks per check out. Just pop on by and renew them, and you’ll be good for another two weeks!” She explained to him. Hunter smiled sheepishly as she handed him his card.
“Thank you!” He was so excited to get his card he almost forgot why he had gone to the library in the first place. “So uh, is this it?” He asked.
“Oh, I need to scan your card and then your books,” she explained. Hunter handed her his card and stack of books, and one by one, she scanned everything.
“All right! You’re good to go!” She said happily, giving him his things, “I hope to see you again soon,” She smiled at him, and he smiled back.
“Yeah, I’d like to see you again.” He blushed lightly. Had he made his first friend in the Human Realm?
“Oh wait!” She exclaimed, pulling out another sheet of paper, “We’re having something here in Gravesfield soon!” She handed him a poster of what looked like a carnival.
“Oh, uh, what is it?” He asked her, taking the poster and examining it.
“We’ll be having a Halloween Festival in a few weeks. There will be all sorts of activities and fun stuff. I’ll be there with a little booth full of more books about Gravesfield. I’d be happy to see you there.” Hunter blushed and almost squeaked, she wanted to see him again!
“Oh, of course! You can count on me!” She flashed a smile at him as a light blush grew across her (s/c) face.
“Awesome! I’ll see you there!” And with that, Hunter was on his way back to Camila’s. He was too excited about seeing (Y/N) at the carnival to even care for all the books he was lugging. It’ll be ok! I can spend some time with her there and then… Then what? Hunter wasn’t sure about what he’d do, but he knew he wanted to see her again.
Weeks had passed and it was the evening of the carnival. Everyone had been surprised to find out Hunter knew about it before they did. The group was excited to tell Luz about the chance that there was Titan Blood, and that they could all go back to the Demon Realm.
Hunter had finished his shirt, and he wore it under his costume. He had taken extra care in his detail, wondering if (Y/N) would like it. Everyone was wearing a sort of costume, and they hoped no one would suspect they weren’t human.
As Hunter walked around, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Belos might be… there. He tried to drown it with the hope of seeing (Y/N) again. He looked around carefully hoping to catch her form, and almost jumped with joy when he finally found her.
He ran up to the booth, his smile ear to ear and his face blushing madly. He felt like he hadn’t seen her in forever when in reality he had visited the library as much as he could.
“(Y/N)!” He called out, and she quickly faced him, a smile on her face just as big as his.
“Hunter! Hi!” She waved as he approached her. “How are you? Are you having fun?” He smiled shyly as he got closer. He wasn’t expecting it but (Y/N) leaned over the booth and gave him a hug. His face turned to a dark red and he froze, not knowing what to do. He couldn’t think of the last time someone hugged him. He finally embraced her too, and a strange feeling of comfort washed over him, with something else. It almost felt like the satisfaction of completing a puzzle of chugging down water after waking up from an unexpectedly long nap. He had no idea what to compare it to, he just felt like… he had been giving something he had been starved from…
She finally pulled away after a good squeeze, “I’m so happy you came! I’ve been looking for you since we set up the booth!” Hunter blushed, she was holding his hands in hers. She was so cheerful and comforting. He wanted to rest in her arms and feel her embrace again.
“Wait- really? You’ve been waiting for me?” He blushed and felt his heart race. No one had made him feel like this. No one had ever made him feel this good.
“Mhm,” she hummed, nodding, “Hey, do you mind if I come with you? I don’t think Ms. Oscar minds if I go.” He smiled and a woman behind (Y/N) smiled and waved dismissively.
“I’d love it if you came with me! You can show me around!” She smiled happily at him. Together, they walked away from the booth and towards the fun.
“I love your costume by the way! Your ears look so real!” He blushed nervously. That’s because they are… Would she still love them if she knew?
They spent a while together looking at different things, playing games at booths and talking together. Hunter didn’t remember the last time he had felt this good. Maybe when Luz had accepted him as family…
Finally, they approached the others by the hayride, and everyone got in. She quickly learned that these were his friends.
On the ride, they learned about the story of the Wittebane Brothers. (Y/N) however, was familiar with these stories. She had studied just about as much as Hunter did.
Hunter and his friends were noticeably uncomfortable. She could tell there was some strange tension between all of them. Maybe they didn’t like the tale of the brothers, or maybe it really had scared them.
As soon as the ride was over, Hunter got off with someone dressed as Azura and the two suddenly disappeared. (Y/N) figured something was wrong and decided it was best to give him space, so she stuck with his friends who happily let her stay by.
After a couple of minutes, everyone began to awkwardly shift around.  It seemed like they all had a feeling something was wrong. Apparently, it wasn’t like Luz and Hunter to just disappear.
The girl with an orange wig spoke first, “Luz? Hunter?”
(Y/N) suddenly realized how long it had been since they disappeared.
Suddenly, a woman and another girl who seemed to be of (Y/N)’s age appeared.
“Kid!” The woman shouted, “Has anyone seen Luz?” she asked worriedly. “And has she um…” She hesitated for a moment, “said anything… weird?”
“Boom!” The girl exclaimed, “Find A Phone!” She pulled out a phone and on the screen appeared what seemed to be Luz’s location, and so the group began to move out.
(Y/N) stuck with them as they made their way into the forest and closer to the Old Graveyard.  She hoped the two were all right, or that they were trying to prank them.
As the group got closer to Luz’s location, they began shouting for them.
“Luz?! I think she’s this way!” Amity exclaimed, and soon everyone else began calling out.
“Mija?!”
“Luz!”
“Hunter!”
“Guys?! Where are you?!”
“Hunter!” (Y/N) shouted out as loudly as she could, wishing she would find him.
She didn’t know what else to do other than hope Hunter was all right. She walked with them until she could make out their shapes, but… something was wrong…
She then realized there were flashes of colors and shapes, and… there was a strange new detail on Hunter. He didn’t have horns on his costume… The group then ran forwards and she could see what was wrong: Luz and Hunter were fighting, and his skin and eyes had changed color. She froze, not knowing what to do, trying to figure out what was wrong.
“Is that- Hunter?” Camila asked. She stared, wide-eyed, trying to figure out what was going on.
“Something’s wrong-” Gus stared intently at the two across the ice bridge.
What’s going on- is this some sort of prank? (Y/N) tried to think, but she didn’t know what to do. She felt panic start to burn in her veins, is Hunter ok??
Hunter looked at the group, and then at Luz, a grim smile on his face, “See, this is why you’re so useful, Luz,” he said, yet it sounded like another voice was echoing his words. “You’re so desperate to help people, you even helped me meet The Collector.”
“What-” Amity froze, and the group shuffled awkwardly again, exchanging frightened looks.
That is NOT Hunter’s voice… (Y/N) began to tremble. She didn’t understand what was happening.
Luz began to panic, “I-I didn’t mean to-” she held her arms out in distress, “I-I thought I was doing something good!” Her voice was breaking and her fear began to leak.
“But… you DID do something good!” (Y/N) didn’t know what to think anymore, it looked like Hunter but it wasn’t his voice, “I thought this one was a lost cause” the voice said, retracting what looked like claws into normal hands, and he stared at them almost admiringly.
“Because of you,” He said arrogantly, “We can finish our work as witch hunters- starting with THEM!”
A claw came hurling towards them, and Amity suddenly pulled out a staff and deflected the hit. Willow and Gus followed, pulling out their own staffs, and suddenly, they flew off and began to circle ‘Hunter’.
(Y/N) was trembling. She didn’t know what was happening, she didn’t understand what was going on. All she could do was stare in absolute horror. H-Hunter??
The fight was a wild frenzy. There were suddenly several of Gus, and ‘Hunter’ extended his arm, and hit one, deflecting a cloud of purple right after.
“Ha!” He exclaimed triumphantly.
Gus then circled ‘Hunter’, “Hey Belos, remember me?” he asked  mockingly. He grimaced and aimed at Gus, but Willow caught his arm and dragged it down.
“Hang tight, Hunter!” Vee called out. She inhaled and, suddenly, wisps of blue were coming to her.
‘Hunter’ cried and pulled back ferociously, and then aimed at Vee with his other arm.
“Vee! Watch out!” Amity shouted, swiftly grabbing her and pulling her away in time just as the claw crushed the bridge.
(Y/N) watched in horror as everything unfolded. She didn’t understand or have the slightest clue on why or how any of this was happening.
‘Hunter’ hit Gus, Willow and Amity, sending them crashing into the ground. (Y/N) jumped back and yelped. She looked up to see that Luz had a staff too now, and she was holding it around ‘Hunter’.
“I know you can hear me, Hunter!” She cried out, “Fight! Him! Off!” He threw her over his shoulder and she screamed, flying in the air. Amity then swiftly twisted her staff around, and a circle of purple light appeared: she was summoning plants. They grew towards Luz and brought the broken bridge back together, catching her safely as she fell.
The staff Luz had been using shrunk, and turned into a cardinal. It flew up the ‘Hunter’s head and began desperately chirping and flapping.
“That’s right,” He muttered, catching the little bird, “you wouldn’t  want me hurting your precious palisman- would you?” The bird chirped and cried in fear, “Oh, but again- I don’t care what you want” he said, a grim smile creeping onto his face.
“Goodbye, Evelyn,” he crushed the bird in his claws, the ends of them going completely through the red cardinal. Everyone gasped in horror, watching as green wisps bled out of him.
“NO!” (Y/N) screamed.
One of ‘Hunter’s’ hand reached out towards the bird, when suddenly it grabbed the wrist instead, and released the bird. He began shaking violently, as if trying to control himself.
“Flapjack!” Luz cried out in agony, tears in her eyes, “Flapjack… you’ll be ok…” She tried to reassure the little bird fighting for its life.
Hunter grunted, his arms moving hastily, and he stumbled closer and closer to the water. He punched himself and fell, panting madly.
“You know what I’d like, Belos?” He stood back up, grabbing his arm, walking closer to the water, “I’d like to leave the Emperor’s Coven, and never step foot in that throne room again! I’d like to study wild magic, and learn to carve palismen!” He stepped closer and closer to the edge, “I’d like to attend Hexside as a regular student, and play Flyer Derby with my friends!” He grabbed a small vial with a thick, blue liquid in it, “But most of all, I’d like to make sure, you never hurt anyone AGAIN!" He threw the vile into the water, and suddenly the same echo-like voice returned.
“NO!” It screamed, throwing itself into the water.
“HUNTER!” (Y/N) cried out desperately. Tears were in her eyes, she didn’t know what to do, she was frozen in fear and confusion.
“Oh no, no!” Luz cried out in panic.
Suddenly Camila rushed forwards, “MOVE!” She hurled herself into the water, and quickly came back up with Hunter. He had passed out and laid limp in her arms. She swam towards the bridge and laid him on it.
“Be careful with him!” Willow pleaded as they all surrounded him.
Hunter shook and finally screamed, a green slime flying out of his body, landing several feet away from them. It all came together to form a monster, several feet tall with horns, and a thin, disgusting frame.
(Y/N) was too scared to process it all, she blanked out on what was going on, losing herself in thought trying to find an explanation for all of it. The next thing she knew, the monster was walking through some type of portal, and it disappeared through it.
A moment of silence filled the air, “THAT’S THE BELOS YOU’VE BEEN FIGHTING THE WHOLE TIME?!” Camila exclaimed, horrified.
“Guys! Hunter isn’t moving!” Willow’s voice broke slightly as she spoke, and everyone gathered around him.
(Y/N) held his hand; she didn’t know what else to do. Tears pricked her eyes and shook violently.
“Vee! Call an ambulance!”
“Do human doctors know about possession?”
“Or grimwalkers?!”
(Y/N) looked around frantically, “Wait, what?! Possession? GRIMWALKERS?!”
The group ignored her, all of them desperately throwing out possible solutions and frantic cries.
The little cardinal crept forward, nuzzling Hunter’s lifeless form. It rested on his chest, closing his eyes as a bright light grew from under him. Everyone hushed as a slight glistening sound rang the air, little orbs of light floating up as the bird disappeared.
When he had evaporated into nothing but little specks of light, Hunter groaned and finally moved again. “H-hey guys. Is everyone else ok?” Hunter croaked softly, “Is (Y/N) ok?”
Gus was the first to speak, “Actually, Flapjack-”
“Don’t-” Hunter cut him off, tears streaming down his face “I-I already know” He trembled, gripping his shirt where Flapjack had laid.
“Sit up slowly, baby,” Camila soothed, “are you in pain anywhere?”
(Y/N) gently held his hand and helped him sit up, “I’m ok,” he said in almost a whisper.
(Y/N) ignored everything else for a moment, “Hunter, what just happened? HOW did any of this happen? Are you sure you’re alright? WHO WAS THAT?!”
He just smiled softly at her, “I’ll explain, but, yeah, I’m fine.” Suddenly, she turned around, realizing Camila was saying something about going to the Demon Realm. Hunter and the others made their way towards her. (Y/N) froze, were the stories she had read true? Was there really another world full of magic out there? Suddenly, the portal began to flicker out, “The portal’s closing,” Vee said worriedly.
Luz looked forward, “Then we better head in.”
Hunter began to make his way towards the portal, and (Y/N) felt her heart sink. Hunter stifled a cry and trembled, putting his hand over his chest, “Time to go home, Flap”.
Just as he began to step through, (Y/N) shouted, “HUNTER! WAIT!” She ran to him, grabbing his hand and pulling him away from the portal.
“Wha- (Y/N)?” He stared at her, wide eyed, “(Y/N), I-” before he could continue, she burst out.
“Hunter, wait-” she looked from him, to the portal, and back to him, “Look I don’t know what’s happening or what you’re getting yourself into. There’s no way I’m just gonna let you wander through this by yourself when that… thing just went through.”
Hunter blushed lightly and his gaze softened, “(Y/N), that’s really sweet of you but, you belong here. I’m… I’m not a human,” He said, turning away.
As the two kept talking, Willow, Gus, and Amity all made their way through the portal.
“Hunter, that doesn’t change anything!” She said, smiling at him. His ears perked up. They are real!!
He turned to her again, “What? Really?” He asked, a deep blush coming across his face. Tears almost formed in his eyes.
“Of course this doesn’t change anything!” She said smiling as she took his other hand into her’s. “Look, no matter what this is, what challenge you’re facing or what danger you’re going up against, I want to be here with you the whole way through it!”
Hunter laughed lightly, “(Y/N)! That’s so sweet of you.” He smiled, tears streaming down his face.
“C’mere you!” She exclaimed, pulling him into a tight hug. Hunter hugged her back, almost sobbing into her shoulder. No one had ever made him feel like this. He wanted to feel like this forever.
As (Y/N) pulled away, she suddenly saw Vee shape-shift into Camila. Camila said something to her, and she shifted back as she was pulled into a hug. When Camila let go, (Y/N) jumped towards Vee.
“Hey, Vee!” She looked towards (Y/N) and blushed in fear.
“Oh! (Y/N), I- uh…”
“Can you do that for me too, please? Tell Ms. Oscar I had a family emergency but will try to be back soon!” Vee smiled at her.
“Sure thing, (Y/N)!”
(Y/N) turned towards Hunter and held out her hand. “Let’s go through, together.” He smiled, blushing again as he took her hand. Together, they walked through the portal and into the Demon Realm.
