I still think the cliff scene would have gone very differently if In-ho and Jun-ho were alone without the guards. Yes, In-ho would still have taken off his mask, but I don’t think he would have shot Jun-ho.
Although Jun-ho would probably still have refused to take In-ho’s hand, I think In-ho would have begged, and if they were alone without these guards pointing their guns at him, I think maybe Jun-ho would have listened and agreed to come with In-ho.
Or even if Jun-ho kept refusing, In-ho would probably have tried to take him by force. Anything. But I don’t think In-ho would ever have shot him off the cliff
“But In-ho’s these guards’ boss” yes, but we don’t know if the higher ups, someone who are more powerful than In-ho, are also watching through the guards. We don’t know what’ll happen if In-ho shows a glimpse of “doubt and weakness” in front of these people, that’s the point.

Husky!Jun-ho still thinking he's a puppy a little kid and jumpling into In-ho's arms so his brother can carrying him around like all those years ago 🥺
HE SO WOULD DO THAT. I feel like this is also some kind of repressed issues human Jun-ho carries with him even in his adulthood, since In-ho used to carry him around whenever he went when Jun-ho was a kid and small. And adult Jun-ho, even as a human, misses that. Obviously he’s bigger, taller than In-ho now. And he’s not a kid anymore. That combined with what happened in the past years (the cliff, the games, the island), understandably it’d be, well, weird for adult, human Jun-ho to ask to be carried around like a five year old.
But with him as a Husky, mind clouded by Husky instinct, Husky thoughts, Husky brain, it only makes sense that he’s being carried around by hyung.
He doesn’t even have to think before jumping up at In-ho (In-ho only falls on his ass a couple times, and it’s Husky Siren if In-ho ever refuses to carry him or let him curl into a ball of fluff on his lap). Poor In-ho never stands a chance.

Headcanon on jealous!In-ho? I would love to hear all your thoughts of In-ho when he's jealous; when Gi-hun receives a lot of attention from someone who's not him, or maybe when he sees thinks Jun-ho is forming a brotherly bond with someone else and not him, etc.
I feel like, besides the possessiveness and the urge to control which can certainly be unhealthy, In-ho’s jealousy is also rooted in his own insecurity that’s also rooted in his trauma and the fear of being abandoned, the fear of being seen as something undesirable by the people he loves (Jun-ho and possibly even Gi-hun), because deep down — possibly unconsciously — In-ho sees himself as something undesirable, someone that’s done terrible things. A monster. And he fears one day Jun-ho and Gi-hun will walk away, because they can no longer carry the weight of his crimes.
Maybe a part of him even thinks he deserves to be abandoned and given up on. But the thing is that I think there’s also another part of In-ho that’s outright childish/childlike — maybe he wasn’t like this before (childish/childlike), when he was still the man of the house and providing for / taking of his mom, Jun-ho and a pregnant wife, but after his time in the game as Player 132, after the deaths of his wife and child, I think something in In-ho just broke, and he couldn’t be that strong man who provided for his family anymore. Yes, he’s the Front Man. Yes, the Front Man is supposed to be cold, strong and invincible. But take off the mask and what you see is a child. Not literally, but like, since it looks like In-ho never has a chance to be a child when he was still one, that child in him got buried within and locked away, but he’s still there. And after the trauma, after what he went through — what he’s still going through — I can see that, without the Front Man mask, the child that is In-ho slowly starts to make himself seen more and more.
And that child is terrified of being abandoned and given up on. Thus the possessiveness. Thus the jealousy.
I think with Gi-hun, In-ho’s jealousy comes off petty, childish, but can also be harmful, violent and territorial (maybe less like a jealous lover and more like a cat who hates it when their owner pets other cats). In the sense that instead of lashing out on the spot, In-ho watches and observes in silence. He may not be directly telling Gi-hun he doesn’t like it when Gi-hun hangs out with someone else. But he makes plans, thorough and calculated and in secret. And then he strikes, gets rid of the “opponents” until he’s the only one Gi-hun pays attention to again.
It’s different with Jun-ho though. Because if there’s anybody whom I see bond a brotherly relationship with him, it’s Gi-hun. And In-ho’s not going to get rid of Gi-hun. I can’t see him being truly happy that Jun-ho gets himself a new brother who’s not him though (Jun-ho is not going to replace In-ho, he still loves In-ho no matter what, so it’s In-ho’s own issues and insecurity that make him think Jun-ho is replacing him). But I think, instead of coming up with some evil plan to interfere and keep Gi-hun away from his brother, In-ho will just sulk in silence. Because he loves Jun-ho, and deep down he knows Gi-hun is a good person, a better brother than he can ever be (it’s not true, but again, In-ho has issues and these, in my opinion, are just his thoughts). So he’ll just sit in self-pity and defeat the first time he hears Jun-ho call Gi-hun hyung. It doesn’t mean he’s being replaced, doesn’t mean Jun-ho loves him any less. It just means he has issues, and since communication skills aren’t his strong suit, of course, he’s not going to say anything.
Jun-ho and Gi-hun will have to notice on their own that something’s bothering In-ho, that he feels left out. And still he won’t tell them what’s wrong. They’ll just have to figure it out on their own. In-ho’s lucky though because they love him, and they’re not abandoning or giving up on him, no matter what his own mind says.

what if in squid game season 3 we get a parallel scene where jun-ho extends his hand to in-ho (like how in-ho extended his hand to jun-ho on the cliff in season 1) and this time in-ho takes his brother’s hand and lets himself be saved then?

Hwang Bros headcanon
Captain Park isn't the first "babysitter" In-ho hired to look after Jun-ho in secret, without Jun-ho's knowledge.
Since Jun-ho has this tendency to always get himself in danger ever since he was a teenager (or even a kid), he always has a "secret babysitter" following, lurking in the shadows and making sure he doesn't get himself killed.
Of course, all of Jun-ho's secret babysitters are hired by the one and only hyung.
And it's been happening for decades. Even when In-ho was still a cop, he'd always hire someone to keep an eye on Jun-ho and report directly to him.
Captain Park is probably Jun-ho's 20th babysitter, even though Jun-ho never knows he has babysitters as a grown adult (who climbs a building with bare hands at night when it rains; In-ho nearly had a heart attack when Jun-ho's babysitter reported the incident to him that time).

Question - do you think Gihun’s first games are the first time Inho stepped into the role of the frontman or do you think he’d been in the job for a while?
I always assumed he had been doing it pretty much since his games ended but rewatching season 1 and a lot of the things Junho says suggest this is the first time he’s properly disappeared like that. Like he’s on the edge of reporting him as a missing person when he’s only been gone for a few days kinda implies he’s never been gone this long before maybe?
Idk would just love to hear your thoughts on the timeline before season 3 drops !!
in my theory/headcanon/fanfics, he’s been doing it for a long time, way before Gi-hun joined for the first time, so he’s been the Front Man pretty much almost immediately after his wife died, after he came home from his game in 2015 to her and their child dead, and Il-nam saw his grief as an opportunity to reach out and manipulate/brainwash him — into becoming the Front Man — when he was vulnerable.
but I think it’s a bit ambiguous in canon because the scene where Jun-ho approached Gi-hun to talk about a missing brother in season 1 does make it look like that was the first time In-ho disappeared.
or maybe Jun-ho suspected something was wrong and connected it to In-ho’s being MIA when he heard Gi-hun talk about a death game he went through when Gi-hun was at the precinct, and then Jun-ho saw the circle/triangle/square card at In-ho’s apartment and he kind of went from there.
if memory serves me right, I think Jun-ho did mention (or imply) something about In-ho’s tendency to go MIA and not pick up his phone? not sure if Jun-ho actually explicitly said something about In-ho going MIA before, but I think he said something about In-ho not picking up his phone in the past?
so maybe In-ho has been the Front Man for a decade (ever since his wife died) and Jun-ho only realized something is very wrong when he met Gi-hun and heard about the game that killed people.
but who knows. I do think we’ll get some clarification in season 3 though.

had a thought that ruined my life a little bit: how life-altering it would be for junho to see inho smile again. and how much that would mean because of how far gone inho is now.
because the man junho brought home isn’t really living. he eats when reminded. showers if asked. spends entire afternoons curled up in bed, staring at nothing, he speaks only when spoken to, and even then, it’s a few words at most—detached, toneless, like it’s costing him something to form sentences. there’s this hollowness to him that junho can’t reach, no matter how close he sits or how carefully he holds him when the nightmares come.
and it’s not that inho doesn’t want to get better. it’s just that he doesn’t believe he deserves it. he moves through the days like a ghost, like someone who already made peace with being gone a long time ago. the man who once raised him with steady hands and quiet strength is just… gone. and junho keeps trying, but nothing ever cracks the surface.
until one day, he says something dumb. not even meaningful. probably teasing. something about inho’s atrocious bedhead or how it’s gross that he drinks coffee that sugary. and he doesn’t expect anything back. he never expects anything anymore. inho usually just hums or lets the words dissolve into the silence. and junho’s already moving on in his head. not waiting for a reaction. just… just needing to speak into the silence.
but then.
inho laughs.
and it’s not small. it’s not restrained. it’s sudden and startling and it fills the room. it starts in his chest and takes over everything; his shoulders shaking, head tipped back, the kind of laugh that leaves him breathless, giddy, like it broke free before he even knew it was coming. and for a second inho looks surprised by it. like the sound startled him too. like he forgot he could even make that sound.
then the laughter fades, and the moment passes, and inho looks like he doesn’t quite know what to do with himself. like he’s embarrassed for feeling anything that isn’t grief. like joy is a shirt that no longer fits him right. but junho—junho is just staring. completely still. because that sound? that warmth? it’s the first real thing in so long. it’s like seeing color for the first time after months of grey.
junho’s whole chest aches. his throat goes tight. because he’d accepted, somewhere deep down, that he might never see this again. and now here it is, slipping through the cracks like sunlight, soft and golden and alive. and junho just smiles. doesn’t say a word. he just watches inho laugh, and thinks: there you are. you’re still in there. somewhere. i’ll wait for you as long as it takes. come back to me.

Relationship: Hwang Inho & Hwang Junho
Summary:
“You don’t have to lie,” Jun-ho said, “we both know I’m the reason your wife and kid are dead. Just say you regret saving me.”
Or, the act of love In-ho gave, Jun-ho repaid it with a bullet to the shoulder and the deaths of his family.
The Hwang brothers talked after the dust settled and the game was dismantled. Unsurprisingly, communication skills had never been their strong suit.
