The Gentle Sweetness to His World | Mafioso x Reader

(I love Mafioso sm. Not proofread, raw writing. Soz if it doesn't make sense, this is mostly going with the flow of the writing and feelings.)
Part 1?
Living in the world of his isn't easy, having plenty of enemies, getting their hands dirty, using any means necessary for those who owe him to repay their debt; sometimes requiring blood to spill. It wasn't pretty, never was. He's realized that a long time ago, moments when he had to fight to survive in the cruel place he was born in. While he lives a lavish life as a mafioso, easily having access to everything and having people at his beck and call, he still feels empty. As if something was missing.
Until he met you. You were just tending to your family's garden when you'd spotted him by the gate, assuming that he's the one your father was going to be speaking with. Most wouldn't even spare him a glance, let alone speak to them, given his circumstances and his position. He understands that. Why would anyone try to get close to him, a mob leader who's involved with all sorts of things, knowing fully well what he's delving into since he was young as a means to survive.
Either you were blissfully unaware of his stature or you were just trying to be nice, he couldn't tell when you gave him a smile before you continued with your daily life. He was lost, yet seemingly.. enthralled by you, somehow. It was stupid, really, to be reeled in by just a smile from a random stranger. For all he knows, you were probably trying to pull on the strings, to get on his favour, but that never was the case for you.
You were naïve in your way of thinking, looking through certain things in a rose-tinted glasses as you talk about how you wished the world never had to spill any blood, to live in harmony with one another. Yet you knew it'll only be too good to be true, the world being far too complex and dark for one to want such a change. Your father was an example of that — the leader of a mob group. He'd gotten his hands dirty to get to where you are now, to keep you alive, happy and well fed, spoiled even. You never liked it, hated it when it involves arguments, threats, deaths. But you relented, knowing that you wouldn't be able to experience the normal lives like everyone else does. The least you could do was to keep yourself occupied with the things you enjoy, ones that makes you happy despite your life being different than the rest.
You didn't know what you were getting into when you met him, enamored by his presence. He looked scary, yet somehow also, gentle? It was a surprising sight as well to see him keeping a white bunny by his side when you first saw him. Perhaps there's another side to him that he never lets anyone in the outside world knows. Either that, or you were only trying to see the good things in him just like you do so with everyone else.
You wonder, what sort of story would you hear from him, if you're able to have a conversation with him. What sort of person he truly is, what burden does he carry on his shoulders?; assuming he has a lot of responsibilities he shoulders on his own that no other knows of.
To him, you were a breath of fresh air; someone who’s able to live their life with innocence, purity, as if the darkest parts of the world never bothered you, as if the work your family is involved in never disturbed your peace. He’s seen you treat your attendant with genuine respect and gentleness as if they are one of your own. You live your life with all your heart, taking care of your environment and people around you with such care and love like it was something so easily given, as if it was all that you knew. Whilst it is admirable, it too, is a dangerous thing to do, given your family’s position. Seeing someone being so open about it has him drawn towards you unknowingly, evoking something deep within him he’s uncertain of.
One evening, you caught him by the garden, taking a rest on a bench as he took a smoke of his cigarette. You noticed the tense look on his face, his lips pressed into a thin, unyielding line, seeming as if something is bothering him. He heard the sound of her footsteps against the stone path, weaving through the garden with each light step, a gentle presence that belonged to her alone. He turned his head instinctively at the slightest of sound, a flicker of surprise in his eyes to see you moving towards him. You’d never sought him out, your only interactions being the brief acknowledgement of one another by the front door or the garden before he disappears to meet your father.
“Hi,” your greeting was soft, carrying a kind of warmth his world rarely knew. “You seem.. tense. Are you okay?” You asked, stopping in your tracks as you stood by the bench, keeping a little distance from him in case it causes him discomfort.
Perceptive as ever, you were. Nothing escapes those eyes of yours, and it caught him off guard as you asked a question he never thought anyone would. His gaze lingered on you, a long, heavy silence settling between you both as the gentle breeze of the wind swept through the garden, carrying with it the faint scent of blooming flowers and the distant rustle of leaves.
He didn't speak at first. Just watched you, as though he’s weighing whether your concern was genuine or if it’s just another game he hasn’t learned how to play. “You shouldn’t be out here,” he spoke at last, his voice low, roughened not with threat but with something more uncertain, unfamiliar. You offered a small, tentative smile as you glanced at the blooming flowers in the distance.
“I just.. Saw you out here.” You muttered softly with a shrug of your shoulders. “Thought you could use a little company.” Your words caused a flicker of something passing through his expression — surprise, perhaps, or something dangerously close to curiosity. He didn’t know you that well. Not yet, but it was enough to stir something unfamiliar within him.
His lips quirked into a half-smirk, his gaze didn’t leave her face as he uttered, “Not many would. It’s not a good habit to make, sweetheart.” There was no venom in his words, just a warning dressed in reluctant fondness. You quirked an eyebrow at him, giving a soft huff of laughter. You shifted your gaze towards him as you prompted a question.
“Why not, though?” Your question was soft but steady, like your curiosity to know the reasoning behind it was genuine. There was no challenge in your voice, no sharpness — just a quiet kind of curiosity he’s unfamiliar with, unsettling him more than it should have. He lets out a huff, the corner of his mouth twitching into something that wasn’t quite a smile.
“Because people like me…” He trailed off, his eyes flickering to the ground for the briefest moment before finding yours again. “We don’t do well with softness. And the ones who offer it either get burned, or learn to bite first.” It wasn’t a warning meant to push you away or scare you off, no. If anything, it sounded more like a reluctant confession — as if he’s telling you something that no one else has ever bothered to ask. Or, he’s only trying to convince himself that anyone involved in the line of work similar to his could never experience softness like any other normal individuals would.
You held his gaze, fingers brushing against your palm, muttering, “Maybe I’m not afraid of a little fire.” Your words hold a subtle challenge to it, wanting to test the waters and see how he’d react to it. For the first time, genuine surprise flickered in his expression, his gaze lingering a second too long, like he didn’t expect to get that kind of answer from you and he wasn’t sure on what to do with it.
You didn’t give him a chance to retort back, your next words earning a pause. “Besides.. I don’t think you’re as bad as you want people to believe.” His expression faltered, not obvious enough for anyone else to notice, but you did. You caught it — the faintest hitch in his breath, the slight narrowing of his eyes like you’d struck a chord neither of you expected.
“You don’t know me.” He scoffed, voice quieter, words thick with something unspoken. “I don’t.” You admitted, another shrug of your shoulders, hands absently toying with the ends of your sleeves. “But I can tell when someone carries too much weight on their own.”
Another silence stretched between you, filled only by the sigh of the wind and the distant hum of the city beyond the garden walls. For a moment, he looked like he might speak, might let something slip by — but he broke away his gaze, glancing towards the dark horizon.
“Careful,” he murmured, almost to himself. “You keep seeing things like that in people, this place might eat you alive.” It sounded like a threat, yet there was no bite to it. As if he’s telling you to keep you safe, away from what the world, his world, specifically, and your father’s, could do to someone like you. As if, despite himself, some stubborn, unwilling part of him cared enough to warn you, even knowing that it wouldn’t be enough.
“Maybe.” You said softly, a faint smile appearing on your lips, the kind that didn’t quite reach your eyes but carried a quiet stubbornness all the same. “But someone’s gotta try, don’t they?”
He huffed out a breath, something between a scoff and a laugh, shaking his head as if you were foolish, like you didn’t know what you were asking for — and maybe you didn’t. There was a flicker of reluctance and wary drawn all at once. It wasn’t pity nor was it amusement. It was the look of a man who hadn’t expected anyone to still believe people like him could be anything but what they were. People like him didn’t deserve softness, never get to have them, because people like you couldn’t survive long around men like him.
“You’re going to regret that one day,” he muttered, though the warning felt thin, lacking the edge it should’ve had. Perhaps even sounding like a confession.
“Maybe.” You said, your voice gentle but sure as you looked at him with a gaze that’s steadier than he expected. Not naive, not reckless. Just quietly certain. “But if I do, it won’t be because of you.”
And that struck something in him. You saw it — the way his expression stilled for a heartbeat, like the words had cut too close, like you’ve reached somewhere deep within the place he hadn’t meant to let you near. He didn’t answer you right away, just watched you in the thick, breathless silence. Then, he gave a low, almost humorless chuckle, shaking his head. “You’re trouble.”
But there was no heat in it, no longer a warning. He sounded almost resigned after hearing your words. You truly were trouble to him, cutting it too close to reaching deep within the depths of his heart, uncovering what lies beneath it. It’s as if you were starting to see past the blood on his hands, and he was starting to let you — and that might be the real danger of it all.
And then, because neither of you could trust what might come next, he stood up from where he was sitting, turning towards the garden path.
“Get some rest, sweetheart,” he murmured without looking back. “It’s getting late.”
And this time, he left — but not without glancing over his shoulder once, like he wasn’t sure if he’s hoping you’d already gone inside or stayed to watch him leave. Of course, you stayed, watching his figure gradually retreat into the distance, leaving your family’s estate. You clutch the front of your shirt as you stood there long after he left, the quiet of the night settling around you like a heavy blanket. The faint echo of his voice threading through your head.
“You’re going to regret that one day.”
Maybe. But something in you knew you wouldn’t. At least not for this.
…
He walked the path back towards his car, the glow of the lanterns scattered by painting the stone path in uneven light. The cigarette in his hand had burned down to nothing, and he dropped it with a flick of his fingers, grinding the ember out beneath his heels as he walked.
It was stupid, reckless even, he told himself. It was a huge mistake to let the conversation go as far as it had. He wasn’t supposed to get attached, to not linger in the softness you offer — he shouldn’t. It’d only risk you even further, bringing you into the dangerous world he has lived in for years. And yet, your voice lingered.
“Maybe. But if I do, it won’t be because of you.”
Trouble. That’s what you are — trouble in soft skin and bright eyes, in careful words that landed harder than any bullet. And yet, as he reached the gates of the estate, Mafioso hesitated. Just a second, one glance over his shoulder, and the empty stretch of the garden felt heavier than it should have.

“Once Drifted Apart yet Yearns to Be Again”
(Heavily inspired by a song "Is it really you?" by Loathe. Also was listening to Sleep token's version of it. No specifics in mind so imagine whoever you wish it to be.)
...
There was a time where two individuals shared a closeness, connected in a way neither of them expected nor fully realized what it was truly. A time where their names fits effortlessly in each other's mouths, stolen glances at each other, when conversations stretched into the late hours, teasing and soft remarks being exchanged, masking what lies beneath the words uttered; something neither of them can admit out loud.
Back then, they didn't know what to call it — that restless, gentle ache nestling deep within your chest, the tug they feel, pulling them towards one another, that strange comfort they found in each other's voices and company. Or perhaps, they knew but was afraid to act upon such feelings, fearing of what would be if the words are out.
Time, however, has a habit of fraying even the strongest threads and thus decided to play a cruel game.
The unspoken feelings carried in their hearts accompanied by bad timing led them to drift apart. Not with dramatic goodbyes, no. It happened in the small, quiet ways — fewer messages, hesitation in their responses, unanswered questions left hanging in the air till there was nothing but silence. It was better this way, one thought, despite how terribly it stings.
But they both know connections don't sever that easily, the remnants of their past feelings lingering in the air. The same ache still nestling deep in their chest, buried beneath their busy days and sleepless nights, how these frayed threads could still tug on their heartstrings whenever the right words are spoken.
They somehow found their way back to each other, the messages starting off casual before switching up to something akin to playful teases, old habits finding slipping back too easily. It felt fond yet foreign at the same time. Things that were not expected to be remembered, feeling flustered over something one thought wouldn't affect them anymore.
Then, a soft notification came in, a track. It sounded bittersweet, with a message of hurting and yearning for reconnection. She listened to it once, and again, losing track for how long she'd been looping it. The urge to pick up a pen and write something was strong as it stirs something within her, deep emotions being evoked, throat burning and a familiar ache in her chest. Perhaps where he is, he feels it too, looking up at the dark sky decorated by the shimmering stars.
“Is there still time for us to be again?”

❝Fool for you❞ — M!Rover x Reader
(is it criminal to use this specific screenshot of him? probably.)
It was harmless at first, just an ordinary conversation shared between two friends beneath the soft orange glow of the setting sun. The view was spectacular from up the hill, with the two of you lingering a little too long after finishing a job together, neither wanting to break the fragile peace the evening had to offer.
You laughed at something he said, head ducking instinctively as a familiar warmth rose to your cheeks. His voice, steady and low, had a way of curling around you, making the world softer, quieter. You felt a familiar ache settling in your chest, one that you'd been trying to ignore for quite a while now since it's made its first appearance — the first time you'd realized you were falling for the man in front of you. It made you feel foolish, like a lovestruck fool, catching feelings for a man whose gaze could undo you so quickly.
And then.. you felt it. Warm fingertips brushing against your hair, tucking a stray lock behind your ear. His touch lingered, just for a second too long. The pad of his thumb ghosting along your cheekbone, his eyes never leaving yours. That gaze — so gentle and steady — like you were something worth looking at, the only thing worth his gaze in the world.
"Your hair was in your eyes," he murmured, voice barely above a whisper as he pulled his hand away.
You felt it then — the remnants of his touch searing into your skin, the warmth pooling in your stomach as your heart hammered against your ribcage. He offered you a small smile, and you managed a shy, breathless one in return.
When he walked you home and left, you stood at your doorstep for a while, fingers caressing the spot where he'd touched you. The air still seemed thick with him — his scent, his warmth and the echo of his presence were clinging to you like a memory you weren't ready to let go of. And gods, you were feeling like a fool for the way that your heart skipped at every stolen glance, for the way his closeness made your pulse race and how you'd be caught smiling at nothing, just remembering the way he looked at you as if you mattered.
Sleep didn't come easy that night. Woken up by the memories of him, haunted by the ghost of his touch. Every time you close your eyes, you see him and the way his hand holds yours — firm, steady, protective. The way his voice softened when he spoke your name.
You were falling, and you didn't even know when it started. It was too late for you to run away, to back out now. You were a fool for him, hopelessly and helplessly, and you didn't mind one bit. Albeit it being a little overwhelming and scary.
...
Rover wasn't oblivious, no. He's noticed the way your laughter lingered a little longer around him, the way your eyes darted away when he caught you staring, and the way you shivered, not from the cold, but from his touch on your skin.
He wasn't proud of the way he reached out for you without reason — a hand steadying you by your elbow when the ground is uneven, his palm warm against yours as you move through the crowded streets, and tucking a stray strand of hair that got in your eyes (simply to admire you a little longer). He can lie to himself, saying that it was on instinct, a reflex, habit even, but it wasn't. He knew it goes deeper than that.
He saw the way your lashes fluttered, how your cheeks would flush so prettily over something so simple, how your breath would hitch when he gets even a step closer, a touch on your skin.
When he had left you by your doorstep, he couldn't help but turn around to have one last look at you for the night, until he caught you still standing there with your head down, fingers brushing your own cheek as if you were chasing the memory of his touch.
He found himself lying awake at night, tracing the phantom memory of your hand in his, wondering if you could feel it too. And it hit him.
He's watched the way you'd been absentmindedly tucking your hair behind your ear in the same motion he'd used on you before. Seeing the faint gesture made his chest ache in a way that startled him.
And he realized. It's you. It's always been you — the reason his world felt a little less heavy, the reason he felt that restless ache in his chest whenever you looked at him like he'd hung the stars, like you didn't quite know what to do with yourself, like you were feeling something.
He smiled then — soft, pained too as he realized how much of a fool he was becoming.
A fool for the way you made him feel like something gentle in a world that had long since stopped being kind. For every time he made excuses just to be near you, for the way your smile always made his heart stutter and the familiar warmth creeping up his cheeks.
And when your eyes met his across the room with that shy smile of yours like you were afraid of your own heart — he knew. He was already yours.

“Words in the Rain”
(Short blurb written ages ago. Can imagine whoever you'd like it to be.)
Pouring out your feelings on a rainy day sounds.. nice. Perhaps a little romantic, you thought to yourself as you looked outside the window. You could admire them as you speak of the words you've been meaning to say but didn't due to certain circumstances. Whatever happens after that, you leave it for another day.
The atmosphere felt a little gloomy as the sky turns dark and the clouds turn grey. But to you, it was okay. You wouldn't have it any other way as you spend your time with somebody you hold so close to your heart; a friend that you've harbored feelings for but is terrified to say how you really felt about him. Something cold pressing against your cheek startled you from your thoughts. You turned around to see the culprit; it was him. He had a big grin plastered on his face.
"You seem occupied. Were you daydreaming again?" He asked, laughing at your reaction. Hearing that, you turned your head away from him and huffed in feigned annoyance. "Now, why would YOU like to know?" You retorted back. "Oh, c'mon. You know I love hearing those stories of yours, whether it's a fantasy or not." He uttered, the grin never leaving his face. You rolled your eyes at him, lips curling up into a smile. You could never keep a straight face around him. (Unless it is about something serious.)
"Here." He handed you a cup of your favourite drink, and you accepted it gratefully. "Thank you," You muttered. Things went a little silent between the two of you; only the sounds of the soft pitter-patter of the rain and the sounds of people talking in the Cafe could be heard. It was nice, though. It'd be nicer if you could take a walk in the rain though, accompanied by him and an umbrella.
You moved your head slightly to have a look at him, only to find him already looking at you. It caused your heartbeat to jump slightly. You weren't sure if you should suggest the idea you had in your mind, afraid he'd turn it down. But you asked anyway.
"Do you wanna take a walk together?" You asked. A pause.
"Sure, that sounds nice." He responded, chuckling. You were confused as to what he found so amusing. Did you look or sounded too eager? Without realizing, he already took a step forward on the sidewalk with his umbrella as you were too occupied panicking in your head.
"Shall we go now?" He asks, beckoning you to come over and join him under the umbrella. You nodded, walking towards him.
…
As you walk with him, you couldn't help but think about the feelings you harbored towards him; one that you simply could not deny and chase away. It stays hidden, terrified of what could happen if you were ever to slip and confess your feelings. He's been nothing but a sweetheart to you. You've had a few disagreements here and there, but the two of you worked through it anyway. Would it hurt to be selfish and want something more than just friends, something that could bring you both closer? He's somebody that you really want to keep in your life, if you could have that. Though, the real question is: Would he want you too? Such a question stays lingering in your head, but you wouldn't get an exact answer if you didn't shoot your shot, right?
Before he took his leave after dropping you off, you tugged on his sleeve. "Wait." He hummed in response, heeding your request. "Is something the matter? Are you okay?" He asked out of concern. You could only nod as a response to his question. Your mouth felt dry, the words you've been wanting to say stuck in your throat. You pursed your lips together, trying to keep yourself calm before you speak and tell him something that you might regret, or not.
"Can I tell you something?" You asked, your voice small. "Of course. Anything." A brief silence accompanied the two of you as you took your breath and prepared yourself mentally before uttering the three words you've been meaning to say but was too terrified to do so.
"I love you."

Wanshi x Reader (this was sitting in my notes for a whole month; inspired by White Day.)
You were bored out of your mind, having finished your paperwork and today, March 14th, was your day off to do anything you'd like and enjoy yourself. Except, you're not sure what you can do as you're always used to having stacks upon stacks of paperworks, waiting for you to tend to them — The life of a Commandant, you suppose. Sighing, you sat down on the couch, gaze falling onto your tablet.
You hoped to hear a response back from a certain Construct whom you'd gifted your freshly baked cookies to as a Valentine's gift. Did he like it? You wondered to yourself. Soon enough, you received a call from Wanshi, whom you've been waiting for. You tapped on the accept button, perhaps a little too eager to hear from him.
He wastes no time in trying to confirm his suspicions about a certain bag of cookies that sat out the front of Strike Hawk's maintenance chamber.
"You were the one that left the cookies outside of our maintenance chamber, weren't you?" He asks, his holographic image before you raises an eyebrow. You nodded in response to his question.
"Did you.. like it?" You asked, feeling a tad bit anxious in case it wasn't to his liking. He yawned before uttering his response to your question.
"Yeah, they taste great. It was perfect for a first meal in the morning after a full night's rest. Thank you, Commandant," A small smile appeared on his handsome feature, expressing his gratitude for the gift he received from you.
You sighed in relief, smiling. "I'm glad to hear that."
"As for the gift in return…" He pondered for a moment before continuing. "I'll give you this "emergency mood booster" bottle, exclusive from me to you." He picked up a bottle of candy wrapped in rice paper to show you the said gift. He knew you'll recognize the candies in the bottle as you've had it before in Nanyu. You said it immediately became one of your favourites back at the Rain Flower festival in Nanyu, and he remembers.
He did not miss the sparkle in your eyes when your gaze landed on the bottle of sweets. It brings him joy to see you happy.
"When I'm not by your side, take one and cheer up, yeah?" He tells you, to which you nodded. Of course you won't resist getting your hands on some sweets. They're always a treat, especially when you're having a rough day.
A question popped up in your head however due to his mention of "when he's not by your side". Is there another condition then, if he were to be by your side when you're not feeling well?
You opened your mouth to ask that question aloud to him. "What about if you're by my side then, Wanshi?"
The smile on his face stay plastered on his face as he closed his eyes and sighed, perhaps finding your question a bit silly. He doesn't mind though, as long as you're happy.
"When I'm by your side, I'll do my best to “cure” this patient of mine," He mused, his eyes glinting with a bit of mischief.
You chuckled, humoring him in return. "Then I'll be in your care, Doctor Wanshi."
…
"Say Commandant, are you occupied with anything at the moment?" He asked. An interesting question, coming from him. "No, today's my day off, Wanshi. Is there something you'd like to do?" You retorted question at him after answering his question. He pursed his lips for a moment, lost in his thought as he considers his next course of action.
"Would you like to take a tour around the festival with me?"
Oh. You weren't expecting that. Isn't the festival being held was to celebrate Valentines and White day? Is this a date? More and more questions were overloading your little head. As if he could read your mind, his next words rendered you speechless.
"Consider it a date, (Name)." The blush adorning your face was all he needed for an answer. He's aware of your feelings towards him, despite him being a Construct. Such could be said towards him, harboring feelings for the Gray Raven's Commandant.
Such feelings were a hassle for him back then as he was a Construct made solely to tend to the wounded and go to war. He thought he has no time for relationships and commitments, being in this line of work, but maybe he was wrong. Should he let such an opportunity to take you out go to waste? Absolutely not. Not when he could witness your reactions and see the smile he loves to see adorning your face. Once he has a goal he wishes to reach, he'll see it through. As such, taking you to the festival is his wish to treat you and make you happy.

“Rain Flower Nights”
Contains his affection story spoilers!!! (Also twisted it around a bit for the work)

════════════════════════════════════════════
What had transpired throughout your trip in the mountains with Wanshi has gotten you pondering over a lot of things, especially your relationship with the said male Construct. As far as you and everyone else is aware, your relationship with him can be considered as comrades, perhaps even friends, but nobody's seen what you share when nobody else's around, be it during a mission or a casual day out.
The lingering gaze on one another with such intensity one can consider as affection, a not-so-subtle tension between the two of you as you throw flirty and teasing remarks at each other, pressing kisses on the back of your hand, or palm when you least expect it. You could still feel the warmth on your palm that night — he had his lips pressed against your palm as you toyed with his soft locks and caressing his cheek before drifting off to sleep: A bold move, you'd told yourself. This was driving you absolutely insane and worsening the feelings you'd harbor towards him. Would it be unprofessional of you if you confess your feelings to him? Would it cause troubles in your workplace then? You unfortunately do not have answers for such questions. But were you to hold it off any longer, you might go insane.
On the other hand, Wanshi had taken the opportunity to take a short breather before he took you to the Rain Flower festival venue for the day as he'd promised. This is no good, he thought to himself. Your little ministrations towards one another has been... distracting, to say the least. It's been plaguing his mind, and it doesn't help as he's had feelings for you ever since his Hypnos frame, and it's only gotten worse since then. He could feel the tension between the two of you, and it's bothering him. What was only a little flirt and tease back then has turned into something of normal occurrence when you're by yourselves.
He's going against what he used to tell you regarding relationships: that he doesn't have time to pursue such relationships given his line of work. Isn't he exactly doing that, now? Contradicting his words from before. Usually he'd hate to waste his energy pondering on very mundane topics, but such a predicament he and the Commandant are tangled in has him questioning and thinking a lot of things, which of course, will tire him out due to his frame conditions. He too, wonders if it'd be unprofessional of him to date a Commandant; you. Would it get in the way of his work? Perhaps, or perhaps not. Although, being together with you doesn't sound too bad. That's enough pondering. It's time for him to bring you to the festival and allow you to enjoy yourself and what Nanyun has to offer.
When he got back to the clinic to get you, he was greeted by the sight of you adorning a cute dress with a flower pin accompanying said dress, complimenting it nicely. To see you in any other clothings outside of your work suit is a rare sighting, so he vowed to cherish this chance he has with you and ingrain the image into his memory (he'd never admit that to you, but sooner or later you'll find out anyway.)
"Hi, Wanshi!" You greeted him enthusiastically, smiling as you stepped out of the clinic and waving goodbye to Zhongjing before you headed out for the festival. At least you're feeling happy, a small hint of smile appears on his lips. He oughta make sure everything goes well today, to keep you and the people of Nanyun happy. Mostly, you.
"Hello, Commandant. Ready to go?" He asks, to which you eagerly nodded, placing your hand atop his, lacing your fingers together as you both headed towards the festival. One might think you were dating, with how close the two of you are (and how shameless you can be with affections, such as holding each other's hand). Perhaps they aren't wrong. Soon, at least.
Both of you came across Wan and two other children as you walked on the bridge, seeing them carrying a wooden basin filled with water and flower garlands in their hands. You looked at Wanshi, who is looking back at you with a smile, amused by your curiosity and confusion before moving his attention back to the children in front of them.
As if she could read your mind, Wan uttered, "This is for the festival's blessing! We sprinkle the people using the flowers and water to share the blessings with them." An interesting custom, one that you definitely haven't been exposed to.
"But of course, if you're worried about getting your clothes wet, please let us know!" She added. She wouldn't want to dampen anyone's mood because their clothes are wet due to the blessings.
A little sprinkle of water wouldn't really hurt though, you thought to yourself.
"It's okay, Wan! Hit us with the full thing," You assured her, giving her the okay to share the blessings with you and Wanshi. Wan was happy to hear your response. "Okay!"
After she's given you the blessing and handed the flower garlands to the both of you, gifts from the two children that are accompanying her, Wanshi decided to return the gesture to them. "May you all have a good blessing, too," He utters, a gentle smile decorating his face. Wan appeared to be bashful from the gesture, quickly muttering a thank you before setting off elsewhere.
Noticing the warmth enveloping your hand had gone missing, you turned to Wanshi to question him before keeping your lips closed as he gently fastens the flower garland around your wrist.
"It suits you perfectly," he mutters under his breath, that same gentle smile adorning his face as he gazes at you softly. Such a gaze and gentle gestures from the man you're harboring feelings for causes your heart to skip beats and a soft blush decorating your cheeks. "Thank you," You muttered quietly, returning the gesture to him: fastening the other flower garland around his wrist before continuing your walk towards the main venue.
...
You were convinced by the children to join the flower pole competition; where you and other participants will have to compete with each other by climbing the pole that had been coated in oil to get the prizes that sat at the top. The prizes range from chewy candies, wine, meat and more. You're more interested in the candies than anything else, due to you having a sweet tooth.
Before the competition started, Wanshi had reminded you to step down if you're not feeling well, to which you heed his reminder because you wouldn't know if the mushrooms you've had days before could still cause any effects to you. He'll be watching in case there were any injuries or any unforeseen circumstances happening. He'd hate to ruin the fun that the people are having at the moment.
When he'd seen you climb up the pole with ease, he sighs in relief. Perhaps you've already recovered from the poisoning the hallucinogens had caused you, but there was another problem at hand. The pole you were sitting on is apparently toppling over? That didn't seem right.
He jumped off the railings he was sitting on and immediately rushed towards you, holding out his arms to catch you while the people around helped the other researchers who were still under the influence of the hallucinogens they had. Without hesitation, you jumped off the pole and fell into his warm embrace. You know that he'll always be there to catch you, no matter what.
"Are you alright?" He asks, worry laced in his tone as he checks you for any form of injuries. His face was in such close proximity and you can smell his faint scent and it's making you feel dizzy. You squeezed his shoulder as a form of reassurance, muttering, "I'm alright, Wanshi. It's okay." He presses no further questions, moving his gaze towards the poles and the people surrounding the researchers to help them. Perhaps he's not free from his duties after all, he sighs.
"That was very dangerous. How can that pole even fall?" He questions, seemingly frustrated about it but no hint of annoyance or anger was in his voice. It was just a question to understand why and how that happened, but perhaps he wouldn't really get an exact answer.
You shrugged, confused with what had happened as well. Perhaps the pole was a little too old for anyone to be climbing it was your thought.
"Did you see how I got up there tho—" "I saw everything," He answered, a smile forming on his lips as he handed you the flask you had won from climbing the pole. "You won, without a shadow of a doubt, Commandant."
Commandant.. Suddenly, you refuse to hear him call you by that title anymore when you're with him, where you're not surrounded by your co-workers. You wanted him to call you by your name. Is it so bad to hear him call your name for just once?
"Call me by my name, please," The words came out of your mouth before you even realized. Shit. You were too far into your thoughts that you forgot he was still here, holding you in his arms. Wanshi seemed to be taken aback by your request. He wasn't expecting you to be so bold, but maybe a change isn't so bad.
"Of course. Congratulations." He uttered, his tone soft as he called you by your name. The way your name slipping off his tongue sounded so nice, you wish you could hear it more often. The two of you headed back to the clinic with him still carrying you, refusing to put you down until you safely arrive. You could only sigh in defeat, giving into his whims. You're back at the clinic to attend to a few injured researchers before enjoying the night of the festival by yourselves. Maybe you could find the courage to confess then.
...
The music, the laughter of the Nanyun citizens was still audible as the festival goes on late into the night. The atmosphere was more beautiful during the night, with the lights decorating the shops and the streets nicely. You were sitting on top of the railings of a bridge, enjoying the scenery the place has to offer to you, watching the people dance and interact with each other with no worries plaguing their mind. It was a rare occasion to witness, and you were sure to remember and cherish this opportunity you had forever.
As you were admiring what was laid out before your eyes, a white-haired construct silently observing you by your side, a gentle smile adorning his face. His goal was to see you happy and he's glad that he could see it through, despite the ordeal that had happened during the competition.
He admits, observing people can be fun, especially when it's you. From your body movements to your facial features, it's amusing for him to witness. He wishes he could see more of it, with him being the cause of certain reactions coming from you.
"Wanshi?" You called out to him, receiving no response from the male. "Wanshi!" You called out his name a little louder this time, breaking him from his trance. He gave you a questioning look.
"What is it, Commandant?" He asks, yawning. "Were you daydreaming again?" You raised an eyebrow at him, leaning closer to the standing construct.
"Mm, maybe," Ambiguous answer, of course. You're curious to know what it is, though. Perhaps you could prod him more into sharing it with you.
"What's it about?" His gaze fell onto you momentarily before moving his eyes towards the festival that is slowly coming to its end. Maybe it's time he brings up his feelings towards you. It was a scary thought, but he's promised himself he won't hesitate on what he has decided on.
"You." Your eyes widened at his answer. You? Is this another one of his flirty remarks? Another joke you're supposed to go along with?
"Me..?" You muttered, still utterly speechless with what he's said. He nods, his eyes meeting yours with a certain intensity only you could return.
"Yes, you. The one who's been plaguing my mind from the very first time we worked together, until now."
The first time you met: It was during the time where you had received the news of the Red tide fluctuating and a certain creature that has caused it, the Siren. Wanshi was tasked to accompany you during that mission, and you've grown closer ever since.
"You, the one who caused my heart to beat fast when you're around me, making me question my feelings towards you," He continued, bringing your hand to his lips, kissing it gently.
"It's about time I become honest with my feelings, (Name). I love you," He confessed, gaze never faltering as he looks at you with the same intensity. You notice a faint blush on his cheeks under the moonlight. This was no game nor a dream, you thought to yourself. It is real. All of what's happening right in front of you, is real.
You couldn't speak, your throat was dry, your heart feeling as if it was going to jump out of your chest with how fast it's beating. You reached out your hands to cup his cheeks, gently caressing them as you leaned closer. He, too, leans closer until there was no gap left between you, pressing your lips onto his in a soft, feathery kiss. It was short, too short for his liking, so he pulls you in for another, this time with more fervor, more passion.
Screw what others would say about you and him. You were elated to share this moment with the person you love most, to bare your feelings to him. Just the two of you, accompanied by the fireworks and moonlight shining its light over you.

(A/N: ojou-chan is you. I didn't really feel like changing it to (Y/N) so pls bear with me qwq)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Your eyes sparkled as you looked at the spectacular scenery before you. The shimmering blue water extended alongside the coastline and the gentle waves rolled endlessly towards the beaches. Earlier that evening, Childe asked you if you wanted to go on an adventure today, which you eagerly agreed to. You didn't have anything to do for the rest of the day and how could you turn down the invitation to explore and hang out with him?
Surely it took you a while to trust him since he's one of the Fatui members. It was difficult for you to trust him due to the first acquaintance you've had with Signora, who was also a member of the Fatui. Childe understood the main reason why you couldn't trust him upon your first meeting in Liyue and didn't question you any further. However, he offered to help you with your quests and helped you stay out of trouble. You were hesitant at first but you accepted his offer nonetheless.
Throughout the moments you've had with him whilst trying to help you with your quests, you came to realize that he was a nice person. Though Paimon didn't really agree with you on that one. Neither of you bothered to argue over as you both see it as something pointless to argue on.
The ocean breeze whispers like a lover, placing salty kisses on your cheeks and tousling your hair. You closed your eyes as you listened to the lullaby of the ocean. In the distance, you could hear Paimon having a banter with Childe over something and you couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. It was currently night time; none of you minded though, as the tranquility the night offered gave you a sense of peace.
You slowly opened your eyes and turned your head to your left. There, you saw Childe with Paimon, and your eyes were locked with his blue ones. You noticed that his eyes seemed softer than it usually were. He sent you a gentle smile that made your heart race and your cheeks burn. You quickly turned away from him so he couldn't see your flushed face.
Childe silently chuckled as you turned your head away from him. He found you rather adorable, and interesting to say the least. You've done a few things that he found questionable and interesting. Usually when that happens, it'd get you a laugh out of him.
Throughout the times you've spent together, he enjoyed having your company. It was unexpected, especially for someone like him. The same situation goes for you. You enjoyed having his company around, even though he was a Fatui member who you couldn't bring yourself to trust on the first meeting. Yet here you are again, spending your time together with the man who has helped you countless times, either saving you from trouble or helping you with your daily tasks. You tried your best concealing how excited and happy you get whenever he asked you if you wanted to explore or do anything together. You've never thought that you'd grow so attached to him despite knowing who he is, nor have you ever thought that he'd ask you out of all people that he knew.
"Hey, ojou-chan," You heard him calling you. You took a deep breath and cleared your thoughts before turning your head to look at him.
"I-Is something the matter, Childe?" You asked and mentally slapped yourself for stuttering.
"Nothing. I just wanted to ask if you want to collect a few starconches with me before we head back to the Inn?"
You couldn't say no to that. You certainly love collecting starconches to keep as collections and to reminisce back to the memories when you collect them.
"Sure! Where did Paimon go though?"
"Ah, well.. She told me that she was going to find Zhongli then she was going to head back to the Inn by herself."
You could only nod at his response before standing up and stretching your arms. Your feet were dipped in the cold blue water and the little ripples that were made as you walked formed a smile on your face. Childe noticed your smile and couldn't help but mirror your smile as he watched how you were enjoying your time at the beach. Both of you were content with each other's presence even when there weren't many words being spoken.
"I found starconches!" You exclaimed excitedly, squatting down to collect them, depositing them in a small pouch you brought.
The two of you were so focused on searching for starconches, you didn’t realize how close you were. You bumped foreheads with him as a result. You couldn't help but laugh and Childe joined in.
After your laughters have subsided, he asked, "Are you alright? Does it hurt?"
"It only hurts a little, I'll be fine," you responded, giving him a small smile to reassure him.
He trusted you but.. he had another idea in mind. It'd be bold of him to do such things, but he wanted to.
He leaned closer and pressed his lips on your forehead gently. Your body froze and your cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. You looked up at him only to see him smiling at you and his cheeks were tinted pink. He was.. blushing?
"I hope that'll ease the pain, even for a little bit," He murmured.
At that moment, a thought came to your mind. What if you confess to him right here, at the beach under the bright moonlight accompanied by a few town lights? You tried your best to contain your feelings for him but the more you spent time with him, the stronger your feelings grew. Even the slightest gesture he does could get you flustered.
You gripped your shirt as you made yourself your final decision. You decided to confess your feelings to him.
"Hey, Childe?" He hummed in response. You remained silent, though it wasn't a tensed silence. A contemplative one as you thought about your decision once again before telling him about your feelings towards him. Childe patiently waited for you to continue your sentence. "I need to tell you something."
"I'm all ears, ojou-chan." That call name would never stop making you embarrassed. Childe hated to admit it but he was nervous to know what you needed to tell him.
"Th-This might sound ridiculous but ever since we've hung out together, I've fallen for you and I know that you're one of the Fatui but I-"
Your words were cut off by Childe pressing his lips against yours gently, capturing them in a gentle, sweet kiss.
When he broke away from the kiss, you pulled him into an embrace and hid your face in his chest. You felt giddy and shy after what happened. Childe chuckled and wrapped his arms around you.
"I love you," he whispered, kissing the top of your head. Butterflies erupted in your stomach as you heard the eight letters from the man you had come to love.
"I love you too," Your voice was muffled but you were certain that he heard it as you could feel a smile forming on his lips.
Both of you stayed in each others' arms for a while. You wanted to stay in his arms forever but you knew you couldn't. At least, not for today as it was already getting late; you both needed some rest after a long day. You slowly broke away from the hug and looked up at him to notice that he still has a beaming smile. Seeing him smiling made your heart flutter. He looked down at you as he spoke.
"We should head back to the Inn. It's getting pretty late and I'm sure you've got a few tasks to do in the morning, yes?" You hummed in response. He stood up and held out his hand for you to grab and helped you to get back up on your feet. The two of you went back to the Inn hand-in-hand.
