I just watched Lost In Time, and it was SO GOOD. I loved every moment of it, and I have so many thoughts on the mental journey he goes through, confronting his own demons. A lot of it aligns with my own thoughts on Link and the theme of what it means to have courage and what really makes the Master Sword special.

Shade studied him in silence, the darkness in his eyes betraying the stillness of his stance. Once, long ago, he’d said things like that too —words that echoed like a ghost in the chamber of memory, brittle with overuse and worn thin by time. He didn’t scoff or scold. He only looked at the younger man, all scraped pride and fading hope, weighed down by pain and destiny too heavy for one soul to bear. He saw the cracks beneath the surface, not just from the Talus, but from everything; the grief, the exhaustion, the hopelessness, and Shade understood more than anyone else ever could.

Without a word, he reached into the folds of his cloak and pulled out a small glass vial of liquid that shimmered with a faint, otherworldly light. An elixir forged from forgotten places. “Here,” he said, offering it out with a steady hand. “It’s not a miracle, but it’ll help you stand back up.”

He waited until his younger companion took it, his gaze never wavering. “When you’ve caught your breath,” he said over his shoulder, “we'll keep going.”

"It's worked for me before." He would've shrugged, but just rolling a shoulder hurt. Why hadn't he stocked up on fairies and potions before he'd taken on the Talus? Oh, because he hadn't known this one was there.

He knows that he has a reckless side, desperate and overconfident as the other Hero pointed out - he's been fighting for so long, he's been letting his guard drop, defense crumble. Link is tired and unsure of what he's fighting for. The dragon's tears had already showed him Zelda's fate, told him it was irreversible, that she was lost to Hyrule forever. So what point was there? It seemed he was fighting simply to fight.

"It can lay in the dirt if it wants. I need to get some fairies to heal me."

It's October, so I'm contractually obligated to make an extremely angsty Hero's Shade drawing

I wasn't kidding when I said I loved the Hero of Time. These are all my favorite interpretations of him so far - I don't know all of them out there but yeah. The song is from the movie Nope but the blood comes from the story of the Obeah Man dancing until his feet bled so bandits would stay away because they think the town is full of "lunatics". I'm like...90% sure that my grandmother didn't remember the story right (because I'm pretty sure it actually half of an Anansi story) but it stuck with me regardless. Sometimes protecting someone comes at a great cost, heroes don't all wear capes and so on.
