I don't always take advice from dumpsters
he legit thought a dumpster was trying to communicate with him and after all the time he’s spent rolling around in one
is anyone really surprised that clint barton would actually take advice from a dumpster without even thinking twice about it?

There’s a lot of talk about the fact that Hawkeye is canonically deaf in the comics (and uses hearing aids), but there’s rarely any mention of how this happened.
I think it’s important to remember Hawkeye didn’t just lose his hearing. He sacrificed it. It happens in the panels from the comic above, final issue of Hawkeye’s first solo limited, published in 1983 (written and penciled by Mark Gruenwald). In this comic, Hawkeye and Mockingbird (who he would marry at the end of the issue) are subjected to a sound that makes them go into a violent, uncontrollable rage. Hawkeye knows there’s a very good chance if he listens to this sound, he will beat Mockingbird to death.
This is a man who watched his father beat his mother. Who lost both his parents when his father forced his mother to drive with him when he was drunk. So when he’s faced with the possibility of becoming like his father, whether it’s of his own choice or not, and turning that kind of violence on a woman he loves, what does he do? He makes the decision to risk his own well being, to sacrifice one of his senses without knowing what the long term consequences will be, to prevent hurting her.
This is part of what makes Hawkeye’s deafness so important. It’s representation, yes, and we always need more of that in media. But it’s also a symbol of who he is, of who he’s willing to be. Yes, Hawkeye is the guy without any “real” powers, the guy who stands with the Avengers because he practiced until he got really, really good with arrows. But he’s also the guy who will put others first, who will do whatever needs to be done no matter the personal cost. Hawkeye’s deafness is a symbol of what makes him a hero, even without the powers.
Because that’s who Hawkeye is—the guy who shows that it doesn’t take a serum or a robot suit to be a hero. And his deafness is a reminder of that.

"I swear to god, Steve, I will drop the PASIV out of this fucking window if you don’t tell me RIGHT NOW why you thought taking this goddamn job was a good idea, what with Bucky running around in our heads trying to shoot us out of our dreams."
"Can’t you feel it, Clint? You’re antsy. We’re all antsy. We’ve been the best dreamshare team there is out there since Cobb’s disbanded, and we haven’t gone under in over a year."
Avengers Inception AU → wherein Thor of Odin Corp. hires Steve Rogers’ elite dreamsharing team to perform inception on his brother, Loki, and a shade of their ex-resident thief Bucky (who was killed when the team’s last job went horribly wrong) tries his best to sabotage it.
Or: Steve extracts, Tony builds, Clint runs point, Natasha’s a master of impersonation, Bruce concocts, Thor’s a tourist, and things happen.

He has been many faces, he has lived through a lot of things and he has seen even more. He sees things people dream of seeing, he conquers fears with a simple bad joke he made up on the spot and he does it all with his bow and arrows. Compared to the likes of Captain America, Hulk, Thor and even Iron Man, Clint Barton is a mere human who 'doesn't belong on the team' as the amateurs say. He trains hours a day, improving his physical strength, speed, agility, mobility and rage; let's not forget he was in the circus, wonderful acrobat! He makes bad jokes and his love for pizza rivals the appetites of Thor and the Hulk! Yet Clint Barton isn't just 'Clint Barton'... He is Hawkeye. He's had a tough past with an even more daunting future, but he's escaped death countless times... He's pretty sure he can do it again. After SHIELD fell he was ordered to go dark or get a lecture from Fury himself. Now he was back; at Coulson's side, rebuilding SHIELD. Everyone was at risk, his secrets, Natasha's secrets, even Fury's secrets... That is why he needed to put an end, he isn't Mister Captain America but he is an Avenger. He is one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. 'A guy's gotta live up to a reputation right?' He asked himself before grinning as the released the arrow in his hand. The arrow flew through the air soundlessly before it hit it's target who ended the silence with a soft thunk. "Coulson, I'm in." Clint said before he walked into the large building; the halls dimly lit. Coulson needed a couple files? Easy, even a rookie could've done it. Yet while he was thinking he forgot one thing... He checked for cameras quickly, spotting one large one at the corner of the wall. He reached behind his back, for an arrow in his quiver but he was too late... The alarm sounded and he cursed under his breath. HYDRA agents poured from both sides and he reached for another arrow before glancing around. 'Okay, this is bad.' He thought to himself before the HYDRA agents demanded him to drop his weapon. "Sorry boys, ain't gonna happen." He said.

“To successfully make a shot, you gotta follow and master basic steps. Your stance is the foundation. Where you draw your strength. Nock the arrow and grip. Realize you are wielding a weapon. Mindset. Focus solely on your goal, regardless of your surroundings. Be in the now. Set up and draw. Inhale and prepare for what you are about to do. Anchor and hold. There is no going back. Aim. All that remains is you and your target. Release and follow through. Master those and you hit every time. One last step. Feedback. Basically...take responsibility for the outcome. For every shot.” Clint instructed carefully, it’s what he did on every shot. He had said those words numerous times and no one had really followed /all/ of his instructions. They understood the basic technical part, but being accountable for /every/ single shot… Now that was hard for some people to grasp. They only wanted to be accountable for the good ones, because that makes them feel accomplished… Right? Yes, it does but how Clint hits the target every time, is because of the hours he spends every day to keep his skills intact and because that is what is running through his mind when he draws back his bow to nock an arrow. He’s the world’s mightiest marksman because he doesn’t miss.. He’s on a team with super-humans for God’s sakes and he is just a normal guy with incredible talents that allow him to be apart of the team. Yes, Iron Man is normal, but he wouldn’t be anything without his brain and his suit. Him and Natasha… Now they /are/ the weapons. To be able to keep up they need to train harder, be in the best physical shape they can be because if they’re not… and they let their team down… That’s when the demons and memories come flooding in.
